If you are not patient almost any place that sells sewing supplies sells them. One question, I know Mennonite women are expected to be modest, especially in public. But do they have to be modest with their husbands in the privacy of their own bedroom? I have a relative who lives in Lancaster PA and he informs me that a Mennonite woman slapped his face when he attempted to flirt with her. Do married Mennonite women wear anything different from unmarried Mennonite women to let men know they are not available or does one simply ask? I know some cultures wear wedding bands or other symbols indicated marriage but I heard that Mennonite women do not wear wedding bands.
Dear Nunya, there are many, many variations of Mennonite. I was raised Mennonite Brethren. Our core beliefs of the Bible are usually similar, but how that is lived out in the way we dress, talk with others, modes of transportation, etc. is very different. I would probably never slap someone’s face, as I see that as a violent act, but perhaps your relative’s flirtation was seen as abusive. Every part of the world, every religion, every community, and every family has their own cultures, and own responses. Megan you would be a surprise as what TH-cam will do. They had to push this one out because I was not searching for a sewing Channel but I enjoyed your content.🤗👍👍👍
I've been sewing for decades: I love the simplicity of this go-everywhere dress, even seeing people door to door and service. It should still work for this large and short granny - thanks!
It's so refreshing to see a woman wearing a looser dress. The dresses they wear on the TV news are not appropriate. I love your video, you are so talented. I used to sew but fell away from it for some reason, don't remember why. Good video!!
LOL! "troll through the comments..." Who would dare be a troll?! You did great dear, down to earth and functional. I have met SO many people that are intimidated by sewing. From this expert, you are a great teacher, and even beginners would feel encouraged by this!

I’ve been sewing for years, just love seeing you making it a joyful experience. Re sewing machine needles, you can buy ones called “Universal”, which work in both woven and knit fabric. Then you always have the right needle.
Loved your dresses the decency and modesty of all you created. Really a pleasure to see feminine and delicate garments on a woman in a world where most everything is shockingly indecent and tattered. God bless you and your talents.
Great tutorial Megan. Even experienced long time sewers like fast and easy projects. This is a super great dress. Thanks for showing us how you make it. Love it!
Oh my gosh, you made my fear of sewing a simple dress disappear, somehow I was paralyzed just thinking about cutting out a pattern until i watch this video. I am comfortable sewing makeup bags, essential oil zip bag or anything else... Now, I believe I can do it :D Je peux y arriver, Merci beaucoup Megan !!!
While I do not wear dresses, I am always looking for long tunics that do not have a deep decolletage, because I love comfortable, _modestly cut_ clothing, albeit in a decidedly 'Boho' style. this is a lovely, easy pattern that can work at different lengths (for a tunic, just do not hem all the way down the side seams). Thank you for sharing it! ♥
Oh my gosh, ur channel 😍😍😍😍😍 I'm in love!!! I'm mot a Mennonite, but I have worn nothing but dresses for well over 20 years.... I really get treated and looked at differently because of the way I dress. I know it's not popular these days, but I really like being treated like a lady. Your dresses are so cute and really look easy to work in as well ... th ty ty for this ♡♡♡♡
I agree! I like to be treated like a lady, and it seems like if you are wearing a dress, people will always hold the doors for you and be polite. That is something I wish every woman could experience. I make sure to hold doors for the ladies who aren't wearing dresses so they can feel a little of that voluntary care and kindness. Throw it around like confetti every chance you get.
NewEarthWellness : I would love to wear a regular length dress but I have really bad scars all over my legs that look horrible so I wear pants a lot. I do wear long skirts or a long sun dress from time to time but sundress’s are usually sleeveless which I don’t like. But I agree, wearing dresses makes me feel very lady like.

I once made my own pattern by carefully taking apart an outfit and using it as a pattern. By doing that, I did not have to worry about it fitting my body perfectly.
This showed up in my recommended list. I never even would have thought to make a dress so simple. I love it! That was actually kind of amazing to watch. Thank you!
I made the dress from your tutorial tonight as my first completed sewing project ever! I used the sack dress pattern from Wittmer Sewing. I would post a picture but I live in an old house and the lighting is really bad and I'm horrible at selfies. Unfortunately I bought a really slippery (but good quality) athletic wear type knit from Fabric Mart online so the fabric slid around A LOT. I should have used my walking foot in hindsight. Anyway, I just started sewing two weeks ago and you have given me IMMENSE inspiration to start making my own clothes! I would love to see more sewing tutorials on your page :)
My favorite nightgowns are basically sack dresses from Walmart. However, I've recently lost 60 pounds, so I will use the Free pattern above to reduce them to my current size or close to as I am continuing to shrink. Otherwise even the neckline is much too large now.

I am not a Mennonite and I love modest attire! I think your textile is awesome and uniquely you. I imagined a shrug as an option to the sweater/jacket. Or, add a contrasting fabric on the sleeves like the awesome dress you are wearing My creative juices are flowing. Thank you for sharing ❤️
I began to sew my clothes 3 years ago and I became addicted. It's money saving and you have clothes which really fit you. Buying a sewing machine was the best investment I made. I don't make my own patterns, but I bought some versatile ones (in PDF it's cheaper) , who allow me to sew t-shirts, sweatshirts, blouses, dresses, with short or long sleeves in wooven fabrics and in jersey. My next challenge is to sew a pair of jeans. As I've been knitting my socks, jumpers, scarves, hats and mittens for years, I only buy coats, underwear and until now jeans from the shops. I love the dress you made in your video but my favorite is the dusty pink one, especially teamed with the white cardi. It's gorgeeous.
Modesty is not just what you wear, it’s how you speak as well. If it’s in the heart it’ll be visible in all areas aside from clothes, such as personality, etc...
Whats wrong with how she speaks..she is not a robot, she is allowed to have personality. This underhanded judgemental comment shows lack of humility, modesty, and common sense.
@@BooThing14 You should not make an assumption without understanding. I don't understand Glenda U's comment either, but it could be something such as her being hard of hearing and having difficulty hearing certain tones, or perhaps the sound coming through her computer was full of static, for some reason. Her comment isn't necessarily meant to be rude. Personally, I know several people who have loss of hearing and they all have difficulty hearing me because of the tone of my voice. Thank you for giving people the basics to sew simple clothing for themselves and their family members. If you ever go in a Goodwill store you can find material sometimes but you can also find an outfit or long dress and open all seams and place your pattern on to cutout. Thank you for educating & teaching people skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity. God bless you!
Actually, you are doing a great job of demonstrating what one pattern can do! Also you can make interfacing with a color matching harder fabric and make different shaped necklines on stretchy fabrics.
The dress you are wearing as you are sewing is my favorite. I'm extremely small chested. So any ruffles or layer on top give me better confidence in the dress I'm wearing. I don't usually buy dresses. Just because they don't fit my age 10 busy line. Which is zero.
You just made an entire dress in like 18 minutes! That is awesome! The last time I saw it I was in about junior high school. I’m 63 now and the sewing machine I had throughout the years and never really worked right and it was brand new so I just never felt like I could do it because I couldn’t do it without sewing machine. But I’m glad you can and I’m glad you did because it was really fun to watch. That dress reminds me of the LuLaRoe dresses that just kind of fit anybody. I really enjoyed your video. I'm an experienced sewer, but I teach at a private school 10 hours a day and don't have much time to sew. You have given me some good ideas for easy dresses that I can create in my limited spare time. Thank you.
Megan you would be a surprise as what TH-cam will do.
They had to push this one out because I was not searching for a sewing Channel but I enjoyed your content.🤗👍👍👍
Trying to sew for the first time at 56! This was perfect!
Been looking for a simple pattern for sewing my own dresses, as well as for my daughters. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together!
LOL! "troll through the comments..." Who would dare be a troll?! You did great dear, down to earth and functional. I have met SO many people that are intimidated by sewing. From this expert, you are a great teacher, and even beginners would feel encouraged by this!
As a seasoned designer, I still loved this simplified dress. Thank you for sharing and some inspiration for today
I don't understand how you came up on my recommended for you list, but I really enjoyed your video. 😀
LOVED this video!! I’ve been wanting to learn to sew a simple dress or skirt! I’m not a Mennonite but I’m a Christian that wears dresses/skirts only.Thank you so much for this video! Oh and your channel is such a breath of fresh air! I love it:)
Me too. You are a delight in a jaded world.
I agree ,Absolutely !
I really like how you use an easy pattern, to sew many different dresses. Very nice.
A lot like a pattern I got from a newspaper about 45 years ago...they called it a butterfly dress.
Loved it!
Marcialouise26 can you share the butterfly dress pattern please?
I would love to have this pattern, is there a chance you could share it somehow.
gaylemae ...long gone...outgrew it!
Marcialouise26 did it look like this? makeit-loveit.com/the-45-minute-butterfly-sleeve-tunic-dress-for-girls-and-women-both?m
I think ALL the dresses are so cute Megan! Especially the one with the different strips of fabric! You did a great job sewing them all!
Great tutorial Megan. Even experienced long time sewers like fast and easy projects. This is a super great dress. Thanks for showing us how you make it. Love it!
Really good job,I failed sewing class but I taught myself to professionally groom my show dogs,The American Cocker Spanial ,so go figure !
I am a seamstress and this is great! I especially love the one with different color "stripes." I really enjoy your videos.
Zentierra great idea!
I've only worn skirts or dresses for 30 years. I love it❤
So true. Women that wear pants don't know what they are missing.
@@g-bgcg i love to wear maxi dresses but find that the top sections are not modest enough for me as a catholic so i have lots of tshirts in lots of colours mainly white and black to be honest and i wear them under the sundress style tops i call them my modesty tops !!! Modesty tops can be worn with spagetti style tops also to transform them into modest yet pretty up to date outfits !!! In England where i live clothing is generally VERY IMMODIST i wish i could sew as well as Megan so that i could create my own outfits maybe i will give it a try however i bet it isn't as easy as Megan makes it look 😁🤣😂🇬🇧
A very quick nice idea when in a hurry to make a dress for tonight. Just love it. It's good for youngh and old.
A Big CONGRATULATIONS!
Well done 🤗
Great video. I think I can do this. I am a beginner. Fun! Sack dress.... if It doesn't come out so well. I can use it as a nightgown.
My favorite nightgowns are basically sack dresses from Walmart. However, I've recently lost 60 pounds, so I will use the Free pattern above to reduce them to my current size or close to as I am continuing to shrink. Otherwise even the neckline is much too large now.
@@annblachly8068 Congratulations!!! That is amazing.
@@susancnw59 Thank you. The only effort is to eat the meat I like and can afford and drink water. Also known as carnivore or Zero Carb/no plants. If interested you can check out the public FB group ZIOH and read posts, find info in the Files.
Helped me heal so I no longer felt like a weak over 80 year old woman that could go any minute. Now I feel younger than my soon to be 64 years.
Put into remission/cured my husband of Type 2 Diabetes also. He's currently smaller than he was in junior high school and he was round then. I've never known him this size. In size 36, but soon to be size 34 jeans. He put the 34 on the other day, but his belly skin prevents him from being comfortable...and without overhang. Soon.
Married 42 yrs this Fall.
I was thinking that it would make for a good night-shirt pattern, but with the hem length long enough so I don’t need pyjama bottoms. Then if it doesn’t make me look 18 months pregnant, maybe try a day-time dress.
@@annblachly8068 Thank you! I need to lose about 40 pounds ...I am going to look into this. Thanks! I lost 45 pounds about six years ago, and it slowly crept back.....I started walking in places like Walmart....drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day.....stopped eating anything after 6 pm and if I was hungry I ate a popsicle....and DH claimed about the popsicles...he said it wasn't good to do....so I stopped I shouldn't have listened to him...I got down to a size 12 jeans too.
Experienced seamstress here. Nice job, excellent presentation and explanation. I dress modestly too, and it and simplicity always stay in style. Thanks!
I really haven't been sewing in 15 years. This video has inspired me to start again.
Thank you. Nothing wrong with modestly.
I am not a Mennonite and I love modest attire! I think your textile is awesome and uniquely you. I imagined a shrug as an option to the sweater/jacket. And, for the ties on the sleeves of the new dress, I imagined them not as ties but as a band with something like a crystal button instead of the tied bows to bring attention.
So true, Had a little trouble listening to this video
Whats wrong with how she speaks..she is not a robot, she is allowed to have personality. This underhanded judgemental comment shows lack of humility, modesty, and common sense.
@@glendau8688 Why did you have trouble listening to her? Not hating, just interested!
It just happens to be one they can't hear easily.
@@Laggin6 It might of been the echo in the room...I have hearing loss, and that is what made it just a little harder to listen to her for the entire video because hearing aids amplify those higher frequencies.
I really like the Grey dress with the asymmetric layers
There are some Mennonite where I live super wonderful people. Anyway I always admire the women's dresses when I see them around town and shopping. They are so beautiful. I always wanted to ask how they make them even take some sewing classes from them but been to scared to ask . So thank you so much for sharing!
LOVE your delivery, very enjoyable to watch! I am an accomplished seamstress but still loved the basics you illustrated, perfect for beginning sewers and a nice way for someone to have fun with their wardrobe :)
Also you can make interfacing with a color matching harder fabric and make
different shaped necklines on stretchy fabrics.
The dress with the "hidden" zipper for nursing! 😯 Game changer! It looks like part of the style. 🎉
The dress you are wearing as you are sewing is my favorite. I'm extremely small chested. So any ruffles or layer on top give me better confidence in the dress I'm wearing. I don't usually buy dresses. Just because they don't fit my age 10 busy line. Which is zero.
These videos are so interesting for some of those of us who are Mennonite curious. Love the snowflake dress ...cute.
Obviously there are different sizes, but you know what I mean. t
They look good on anybody!
I'm a chef. I don't sew, but after watching this, I feel like I could try to and just have fun with it. Thank you for posting this. I LOVE your personality and your delivery. Please, never change! Just continue to be THIS fearless and genuine because you are not only an inspiration, but an absolute JOY to watch. I'm subscribing because after having the WORST day, I watched this video and felt uplifted by the end and was in a much better mood.
You can attached loops on the sides and pull cord to back. Or use a big broach at the back. Therefore they can be sacks.
I LOVE this! You have inspired me to go back and sew my own clothes again -- after 40 years!!
I was raised Mennonite for my youth. And my mother taught me to sew and still sew. Great video.
Megan this video was totally refreshing and charming. Back when I was in the baby making stage of life my mom made me several patternless dresses which were very similar. She was a master seamstress and added pockets for me. Thanks from 🇨🇦
I love pockets!
One of my great grandmothers was an expert seamstress. She could see a picture of a dress and then make it without a pattern. She was able to sew everything from men's suits to ladies' lingerie!
A couple of them turned out lovely! This is the way i sewed 50 plus years ago. So happy i found you..
Thank you, went to Joann's Fabrics and bought some fabric for curtains. But my husband did not
like the color. It is Navy blue, so now I am going to make a dress out of it. So Thank you again. I already sew, so all your tips are spot on true with me and I already own 3 sewing machines. One is going to go, bye, bye.
This is a great video! I have sewn for years and am an independent Baptist rather than a Mennonite. I agree finding modest dress is a challenge. I am glad TH-cam suggested this to me.
I didn't even know she was a Mennonite,I just loved her dressed :) it wasn't until later when reading the comments, people kept saying "I just love modest dresses".
I was like...? I didn't know modest was in the headline, but I'll go read.
Then say the "Mennonite".
Lol I'm not one,but I loved this tutorial and will probably watch many more, your dresses are very pretty! Thank you,you sew like I do,I don't use pins for the more part
Sissor choice best one you can buy. I love how you explain and say you dont need fancy threads...i agree. I have been sewing since I was 12 and Im 66. MODEST lots to be said for that. Keep smiling
I love the one you made from fabric scraps patchworked together. The combination and order of the fabrics worked beautifully.
The snow flake one looks so elegant. And I like the one you made out of various fabric pieced together.
Yes! The snowflake material! Beautiful! 😊
I just had this video in my recommendations. There are far too few modest people around youtube. :)
Eily Bergin very true
same! j
I get so tired of the gimmicky tank tops and sleeveless dresses and shirts. ugh.
@@shericontrary2535 I love tank tops and sleeveless dresses, however I also love this dress and am pretty excited about trying to make one.
(Additionally, you easily can wear sleeveless dresses in a modest way, by wearing a long sleeved shirt underneath it. Looks especially fun if you e.g. wear a sleeveless navy color pencil dress, a white color thin turtle neck, and a navy colored beret. There are a lot of fashionable ways to wear skimpier clothes as outermost or second outermost layer in cool but not cold weather, which is especially useful for those with a minimal capsule wardrobe)
@@Call-me-Al I meant on some videos it is used as a gimmick/ clickbait. I watched a video by a Jewish woman who said that men are more likely to click on a dating site profile if she has more skin showing. I see it on news videos and just the idea that they are playing games is a turn off. Kinda like how something is priced $5.99 instead of $6 because they are trying to trick us.
I don't sew really. I stumbled upon this video and I just loved it. You are so talented. Thank you.
You made it look so simple! They were all cute and look comfortable. I’m going to have to try making a few for my daughter and I! Enjoyed this vid!
For a neutral thread I learned people use grey, I've tried it and it's true, it blends.
My grandma taught me this lately too!
I am so happy you tube put this up on my feed ! Exactly what I have been searching for ! I am working on a “ capsule wardrobe “ you just made my day, week, month, year , now I am off to snoop around your Chanel. Thank you from Iowa in between the corn fields, JoBug
So refreshing to see a beautiful modest girl nowadays. Your dresses are super cute!
Okay, I love this. Not a Mennonite, haven't done sewing since I was 10 years old, but now I want to! This type of dress is so flattering and comfortable!
Disposable paper tablecloths from the pound shop is great for making patterns from. Nice large sheets! 👍
My favorite as well ❣
What is a pound shop? Sorry I’m not being mean. Oh wait. Pound. Money? That’d be like the dollar store in the US?
@@emilyb5106 yes, like a dollar store 😁👍
Pretty much the same as our kuspuks.
If you use your patterns over and over again, brown bags or material that you aren't wild about, make good sturdy patterns.
That way the patterns last.
You are the first DIY'er I've seen who so frank and funny. So refreshing!! Modesty isn't just for the young and attractive. I'm in my 60's and have found it hard lately to find attractive modest and age appropriate clothes that are pretty, not dim greys and browns. I guess you have inspired me to dig out the brand new machine I got 15 years ago and do my own basic wardrobe. I also have years worth of pretty slightly stretchy fabrics to use. You are my kick start. Thank you.
Miss Megan
You are blessings for TH-cam.
Great job on your fashions keep it coming. I will be see you more often.
Lord bless you
Make a video about how to sew the dress you're wearing! So cute!
Yes, that one is my favorite!
Don’t think she made it herself …but I loved it too….
Ohhhhh, Megan, I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! You just made me feel like I can do this. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
Articulate, creative, presentable, funny - what’s not to like? Bring on the Mennonites!
Great tutorial. I have been sewing for over 60 years and i love your presentation on a basic sewing project.
PS: You have such a nice bubbly personality!
You have inspired me to sew again. You are beautiful!
You tube pushed you through to me this am. And I love your dress style. I wear T-shirt type dresses. Thank you for showing how you can be lovely and modest. I’m a new subscriber , God bless!
I see and I’m a Mennonite. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Good to see your younger generation making great use of some Nice fabric. You did a great job and all of them! Thank you so much for sharing. Love from my heart to yours🙏❤️👍
Girl I appreciate your style good job
I am a quilt maker and not a clothing maker but your tutorial was fantastic and the dress is super cute on you. I agree the shape is forgiving on lots of body types. You did wonderful, TYFS!!!
I’m see glad to see young people who are sewing. Your dresses are beautiful!
Like your no fuss approach sewing. Love the snowflakes dress. Great job Megan. Thanks!
Hi Megan. I so enjoy watching your videos. You have such a great sense of humor. Loved all of your dresses. I’m a quilter, not a seamstress. When my babies were little I made their clothes. I’m 71 and enjoy your energy. ♥️
