Hey, i have industrial machines so mine only does straight stitch ........but you can use number 15 on you're machine it still stretches .... i just use my overlocker and coverstitch ..... but i can use my straight stitch if i stretch the fabric as i sew !
As a beginner, here’s some things I’m glad I did. First, I took extra fabric and extra bias tape and practiced sewing them together. I think practicing on scrap fabric first was super helpful. In addition to this, I also sewed the bias tape around the bottom of the dress before doing the top. The tutorial does the top first, but I’m glad I did the bottom first bc I got extra practice before moving on to the top. The top is curvier and more difficult. Anyway, this was helpful to me so I thought I’d share :) the tutorial is great though and super helpful!
I read the comments before starting my dress and honestly your tip is worth GOLD! The bias tape is for sure the trickiest part and I’m so glad I started to sew it around the bottom first! Thank you so much for this tip 💝

This is my first ever time sewing. Here’s some things I learned from this 1. The thread you use matters. Like a lot. Don’t buy sewology. I have learned the hard way lol. 2. It’s ok if it’s not perfect. Don’t stress out. 3. Look at the manual to know how to thread the machine. My dress has some loose seems and uneven lines but it looks good as long as you don’t look too close. Hope more people try this out!
I'm impressed with how many people actually sewed the dress. That's very telling as to how successful the tutorial is and that tip of folding the bias strip a little longer on one side is wonderful. Good job

If your algorithm has randomly shown you this video and you are scrolling through the comments, looking for people who have tried to make the dress: I did make the dress. A short version and a long one and I had so much fun doing it. I am an absolute beginner, so I get easily intimidated by complex instructions. @@Terpsichore05 Hey :) I think I've used some satin looking bias tape and it really elevated the look of the dress. If you're planning to make the dress as shown in the video (black fabric and white bias tape) I'd recommend using bias tape that's a bit off-white (bc I made the mistake of using a really bright one in one of my dresses and it looks a bit cheap). Just finished making this dress. It is *beautiful*. I haven't sewn in a while and this was the perfect project to get back in to it. This tutorial and the pdf sewing pattern are so well made and wonderfully simple to follow. It took me a few hours over two days from start to finish, which is really great for my standards haha (~6 hours total). I went for the classic black fabric and white binding, and I'm now going to try to make a top from the same pattern and leftover fabric. Would be keen to try it in different colours and a shorter length (the original midi length is perfect, but may as well try it out because the fit is just soooo good). i got a sewing machine a week ago, i had never touched one before but still decided to make this and it’s so cute!! I also made it in black with off-white bias tape. I was most scared of the bias tape but it ended up being really easy and fun, it was my favorite part! The dress look so nice! Sadly it’s full of mistakes, i forgot to zigzag stitch because i didn’t rewatch the tutorial and just forgot about stretch = zigzag, and instead of starting to sew the bias tape from peak to peak (for the back) i started at the side seam so i had to add another piece of bias tape, luckily i only did this mistake on one side, and the mistake is hidden below my arm anyway when i wear it... I also couldn’t print the pattern because i was out of ink but really wanted to start right away since i had bought everything already so i drew one using my measurings, so i ended up having to do side darts because my boobies are small and drawing your pattern when u have 0 experience isn’t the best idea. But on the brighter side, for someone with no experience, the dress turned out really pretty since none of my mistakes are really visible, the bias tape looks amazing because the stitches are neat which i didn’t expect, the decolletage looks SO good, and it’s just UGH so pretty still!! So happy about it. So if you’re reading this and you’re a beginner, you can absolutely do it, just don’t be like me and please do rewatch the video step by step as you’re doing it because everything i did wrong could have been avoided if i had paid more attention bc this tutorial is so amazingly detailed! I think i’ll make another one of these in a different color and length so i can make one without mistakes! Thank you so much Mai, i cannot wait for more tutorials from you.
Honestly thank YOU for sharing your experience as a total beginner lol. This video already was inspiring, but then seeing a couple of comments talking about ACTUALLY making it? 👌🏽!! I gotta grab a sewin' machine and get to stylin' bc this is SO gorgeous 😍!
It took more than 3 hours, but the video helped SO MUCH and the pattern was easy to follow and cut out. I did have trouble keeping the neckline inside that bias tape, but by only sewing a few inches at a time I finally got it. GREAT PATTERN AND TUTORIAL!
I have been looking on TH-cam on how to use a sewing machine to do little modifications to some shorts I just purchased. I have no desire to make a dress, but this video helped me in educating the beginner. Thanks!
Hi all! So I just completed this fab dress for my vacation! It came out really well and the fits was great. I made a few changes and here is what I did. I had this beautiful black expensive jersey in my stash and it was perfect and all I needed to buy was the bias tape. I felt my jersey and most things should be lined. So I found some very light fabric with the same properties as the jersey and made another dress. I joined them wrong sides together and basted. Then I applied the trim. The result was a more weighted fluid fabric with more weight so I did not apply the trim to the bottom but hemmed them separately. I looks beautiful!
I'm currently making my second dress from this pattern, my recommendations: - add a small notch at the waist line to perfectly fit both panels (the fabric may stretch) - first baste the hem by hand (especially on the neckline) it'll make sewing soo much easier and you don't waste any curves - the pattern says you only need 3m of bias tape - definitely take 4m (as stated in this tutorial) I love this pattern because is simple and very versatile. You can easly adjust both parts to your body and hack the dress in many ways as your sewing skills improve 😍
Hopefully finishing my degree soon and I come across this wonderful tutorial of yours. I know nothing about sewing and tailoring prior but you make me feel like I could manage to make this fabulous piece on my own. Thank you. p.s. you look gorgeous in all the variations of the dress
That's a beautiful cut and really stands out with the bias tape enforcing the curved lines. However, I would attach the bias tape in two steps. First stitching the short edge onto the fabric and then folding closed and stitching on the fashion fabric carefully on the right side just underneath where the tape attaches to the fabric. This way you won't have that visible seam on the tape itself. The seam will be running almost invisible right underneath the edge of the tape. Looks cleaner, but takes a bit longer to do.
out of all the other sewing videos i watch.. YOURS IS LITERALLY THE BEST AND SO EASY TO UNDERSTAND ❤️❤️❤️❤️ and its so peaceful and satisfying, i could watch it to the end without feeling bored
Your video was popped on my front page and at first I thought you were reviewing this beautiful dress but I was amazed that you made it yourself. As a skinny girl (in a country where curvy women are praised and I was bullied for not being like so) I never had the confidence to wear bodycon type of dresses… Last time I did it my cousin said “no offense, but this is made for girls with actual 🍑”! I loved how this dress fitted you, so (even though I’m slightlyyy more flat) I think I’m gonna give it a try! Tysm for such a video ❤
Sweet god! Same, just that I’m curvy in a country that prefers skinny girls. Like no matter how much weight I lose, I’m always going to be too feminine for their beauty standards. And you know what? I don’t care anymore and neither should you. I really hope you will get the confidence to just not give a shit anymore. Go sew that damn dress ❤

I JUST saved this dress on my pinterest yesterday. I'm so glad there's a tutorial for it!!
Thank u so much, u talk so calm, make me feel comfortable ❤️
It took more than 3 hours, but the video helped SO MUCH and the pattern was easy to follow and cut out. I did have trouble keeping the neckline inside that bias tape, but by only sewing a few inches at a time I finally got it. GREAT PATTERN AND TUTORIAL!
I have been looking on TH-cam on how to use a sewing machine to do little modifications to some shorts I just purchased. I have no desire to make a dress, but this video helped me in educating the beginner. Thanks!
Looks timeless, love it
Can't wait for this pattern to be available in larger sizes!
I'm currently making my second dress from this pattern, my recommendations:
- add a small notch at the waist line to perfectly fit both panels (the fabric may stretch)
- first baste the hem by hand (especially on the neckline) it'll make sewing soo much easier and you don't waste any curves
- the pattern says you only need 3m of bias tape - definitely take 4m (as stated in this tutorial)
I love this pattern because is simple and very versatile. You can easly adjust both parts to your body and hack the dress in many ways as your sewing skills improve 😍
what fabric did you use?
@@starshine1536 Bought in a local store in Krakow, so I'm not sure. Probably it's a cotton jersey, medium weight
Hopefully finishing my degree soon and I come across this wonderful tutorial of yours. I know nothing about sewing and tailoring prior but you make me feel like I could manage to make this fabulous piece on my own. Thank you. p.s. you look gorgeous in all the variations of the dress
Why did you watch it then
@@alexadamczyk8962there was no need for this comment obviously they watched it cuz they’re gonna make the dress 😑
Thank you! I need a little black dress and this is it! 🎉
I’ve seen this dress all over Pinterest and loved it and wondered where it’s from😭😭…and this shows up in my recommendations…you’re an angel❤️❤️
I wanna make every color I can. So much love for the fit. Thank you
Your videos are incredibly helpful; please continue creating more of them🍓💕.
Now it’s time to buy the sewing machine. This dress is insanely gorgeous, reminds me of Chanel. Excellent work💗
I fall in love for the dress when I first saw on IG
ahhhhh you posted!!! my fave sewing youtuber 💖
that's so sweet thank you!!
It is one of the most elegant dresses I've seen
Good tip with ironing the bias tape with overhang! Thanks for sharing!
No problem, it's the easiest and neatest way I've found to do it :)
So we’ll explained for someone like me who is intimidated by this. Subscribed immediately
Very lovely! So simple yet so elegant😍
You don’t understand how grateful I am for this video
That's a beautiful cut and really stands out with the bias tape enforcing the curved lines.
However, I would attach the bias tape in two steps. First stitching the short edge onto the fabric and then folding closed and stitching on the fashion fabric carefully on the right side just underneath where the tape attaches to the fabric. This way you won't have that visible seam on the tape itself. The seam will be running almost invisible right underneath the edge of the tape. Looks cleaner, but takes a bit longer to do.
Pls explain more w/ step-by-step vid. Thanks
I'm struggling to visualise this, please help
It's the standard method of using bias tape, just search "How to attach bias tape "
As a beginner, I am definately planning on making this super cute dress! I would like to make the neckline not dip so low.

I love this soo much! ✨ The neckline reminds me of the Paris Georgia Heart Tank Top ✨
You're literally an angel, thank you for sharing this!!!!!
Just believe in yourself! Never let anyone breaks your spirit 💝
Sweet god! Same, just that I’m curvy in a country that prefers skinny girls. Like no matter how much weight I lose, I’m always going to be too feminine for their beauty standards. And you know what? I don’t care anymore and neither should you. I really hope you will get the confidence to just not give a shit anymore. Go sew that damn dress ❤
which country ?
