Lolwot😂
I hope he enjoys the BF2 gameplay I made, mod dropping in March.
You are aware that there are no stock headhunters anymore?
In my opinion, I always saw the Z-95 Headhunter as the F-16 of the Star Wars galaxy.
A very used, old Starfighters with many variants.
Also it does remind me more like the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.
I'm more going for the mig 21
Or the MiG-21 which imo fits better as that thing is literally everywhere and a common fighter nowadays for dictators and such despite it being very old and hilariously outclassed by most western fighters
I honestly think f-15
I'm thinking that we want to go a generation or so back from the F-16 for a proper comparison... so possibly the F-4 is a better comparison
The Z-95s and the ARC-170s will always be my two favorite Incom starfighters. Especially given to they’re the ancestors to the X-wing
The Z95 is like the Ford Falcon to the X-Wing's mustang.
Also, by far my favorite Star Wars ship.
With a surprisingly large amount of cargo space, lots of upgrades are possible. It wouldn't be cheap, but I'm sure you can make a Z95 outperform an X-Wing.
@@jtjames79 We should’ve gotten a Star Wars Squadron gameplay for the Clone Wars and fly that fighter
@@isaackim7675 I was thinking exactly the same thing except an X-Wing Alliance mod.
@@jtjames79 how could you compare either of these to a ford more like chevies
@@jimmybacon3870 I agree they do run more like Chevys. But they have the Ford hot rod community vibe.
One thing that has always stood out to me about the z-95 and it's x-wing descendent is that these are some of the rare few examples of 'multi-role' fighters in the star wars universe.
A maneuverable fighter that also carrys a decent payload of ordnance which can be used against large ships or ground targets kind of like a rl multi role fighter jet.
Older than the Clone Wars, but still a venerable, reliable starfighter. Love this old yet still good starfighter.
Goes to show how while stuff might not be the latest thing
They can still do amazing things and keep up if properly maintained
Or modified/upgraded in some cases
Just like the dreadnaught class
@angelic_disappointment7889 tbh just find a way to lower the crew requirement and you are golden
In Legends, it saw use as late as the Second Galactic Civil War. Which would make it the oldest fighter still in service in the galaxy. That's how you know you've built a good airframe
@FrostbiteDigital jeez that is a long time for a fighter to be around
Granted I know CR 90s were also still in use to at least the Legacy era I believe (which made those vessels stupidly old but solidily designed)
Z-95 just works and was a solid design. A very good example of keeping it simple. No gimmick, just a star fighter.
Always loved the Z-95. Many wondered why the Rebels never really utilized the ARC-170, not realizing that the Z-95 was simply just better suited for them. It was cheap, found everywhere, perfect for a single pilot to operate (especially when Rebels sometimes had a shortage of pilots), and generally long-range.
And it's so strong that it can drive through desert sand without taking any damage 11:15. :)
They did it was just harder to crew them
It also looks like there would be significant commonality of parts with the X-Wing, making maintenance of their fighter fleet cheaper anf easier.
Oldie but a Goldie.
The concept art from 13:18 on is actually the Ralph McQuarrie concept! The Cantwell one had way longer wings, which is why the Z95s in the clone wars are so WIDE
I love it because I remember it as Jaden Korr's ship. He had a Z-95 Headhunter called the "Far Wanderer". It just happens to be from my favorite Star Wars game.
First time I encountered Z-95, even if I didn't knew when I initially played Jedi Academy - thought it was a weird-looking X-Wing.
I say this every time I comment on this channel..this is one of the best channels on TH-cam for star wars ..unmatched ..the hobby of star wars is super interesting and a really enjoyable thing to be a part of ..the lore and information i get from here is super vast ..it has opened up a whole world for me . Thanka
I have been waiting soooo long for a Z95 headhunter video. Thanks sooo much for making my day better.
The z-95 headhunter is one of my favorite starfighters in all of star wars
I can tell you from the days of GMing the tabletop SWRPG d6 WEG edition with a long running gaming group the Z-95 was super popular because firstly it came as an equipment loadout for the Starfighter Pilot PC template, where the Smuggler would get a YT1300 or Ghtroc freighter for example, but of course in most games the GM would steer the PC quickly towards joining the Rebellion since every TIE fighter in the galaxy will basically shoot an unregistered, unaligned, independent Z-95 on sight as will any Imperial Bounty Hunter; at which point the PC will typically upgrade to an X-Wing. But that's not how we rolled. You see add the starship modification rules, spend some time adapting a custom version for starfighter engineering and you could modify your Z-95 with improved laser cannons, armouring, shield generators, munitions launchers, sublight drives and add a hyperdrive module with a basic 2 jump navcomputer. Now the only thing you really lack in performance to an X-Wing is the droid navigator/flight-engineer, but as far as combat goes it can still run rings around just about anything Imperial. And you get to keep your independence. The only trouble you have is a limited range but you fix that with atmosphere scoops and ration your food consumables, you can go a long way along well travelled hyperlane routes in several days, but you definitely want to create a contacts network and that brings roleplay and adventure/quest opportunities. All told, the Z-95 was immensely popular. It's about the toughest thing to live this sort of lifestyle with.
I am convinced you live in my walls! I just rewatched the clone wars tv show and said “i wish there was more info on the Z-95 since its a proto x wing!”
Thank you for going back to ship breakdowns!!
glad u like but I will be doing everything, hopefully in more frequency
@MetaNerdzLore from one "Lord" to another, I love all of your content, but I think ship breakdowns are probably my favorite. Keep up the great content!
Hey, that’s my BF2 video at the beginning, thanks for the feature.
Neat what map is it?
is that a mod? i don’t remember Z-95s in BF2
@@CJ-BZ
Yes it is a mod, it’s in a map I made called “Space Galva Minor” which features custom star fighters and Ai controlled boarding parties.
@@MDPToasteri just watched. Great stuff! I like the Torrent vids too!
As an X-Wing vs TIE-Fighter-veteran, the Z95 was the first vehicle I have ever flown in the Star-Wars universe (first mission in the Rebels campaign. Yes, I am that old). Of course, it WAS the worst plane in the whole game, even worse than the standard TIE. But I have fond memories of it, this is still "my o.g.-Version I love, unlike the clone-wars-redesign.
Ah, but are you old enough to have flown a Headhunter to take out an IRD out in the Corporate Sector?
@@oneproudbrowncoat I'm not remembering that. If you mean the 1993 X-Wing, I've played that a good time later as CD-ROM version. Even "alliance" came first :D
@@tridentflavor7557 Han flew a Z-95 defending Doc Vandangante's temporary base.
My favourite ship from the clone wars❤❤! It just always looked like the kind of ship that zipped around the battlefield blasting away at those flankers! Man I love clone wars🥰😍😍😍
6:26
I like the ferocious paint-job.
Great vid MetaNerdz, fascinating info on this classic fighter.
That red Z-95 at the top right Looks like something out of a video game or an enemy with all those wings like R-type
This ship will always be one of my favorite starfighters of the entire franchise.
Man I have always LOVED the look of this fighter. Maybe it’s because it was the inspiration for the X-Wing, but I always loved seeing clone pilots, especially the 501st boys in blue, roaring their engines out of Venators and ripping through clanker forces
Z95 is the F4 Phantom in a nutshell. Old design but can still do decent enough work and sports some seriously beefy and powerful engines to boot
My character in a Star Wars Saga (a d20 based TTRPG) had a Z-95. It was painted cherry red, had beefed up engines, and bigger blaster cannons. By all accounts, it was akin one of those bad-ass refurbished muscle cars you sometimes see: an old design with improvements but keeping the style of the old.
You had me with the title
“It’s a swing wing! It’s a fun thing!”
Bossk also had a Z-95 he kept aboard his freighter, the Hound's Tooth
Replaying Jedi Academy, I had forgotten that Jaden Korr flew a Headhunter since the last few times I’ve played with a prequel conversion mod that changed it.
Because of Jedi Academy. Jaden's personal fighter is a Z-95. It's nostalgia.
Han Solo flew one in the 1979 book Han Solo at Stars' End too.
When getting ready to defend the Outlaw base Han pointed out that Chewie was also a good pilot, in response the head of the base (that was working on the Falcon, which was partially dissembled at the time) suggested that they could "just jury rig a cupola on top of the cockpit and that anthropomorphic dust mop could fly it with his knees."
Han saw the wisdom of her comments and agreed to have someone else as his wingman.
"Oh, brilliant, Solo! We'll just build a dormer onto the canopy and that hyperthyroid dust mop of yours can fly the ship with his kneecaps!"
Thank you that was awesome love the Z-95
there was a ship before the z95. The c-73 tracker. At 10:49. Thats a c-73 on the left, not a z95
love the z95
been of a fan of the Z-95 since X-Wing and its tied with the Assault Gunboat and the R-7 for favorite starfighter
My 200 pound Great Pyrenees has double dewclaws on her feet which is rare on dogs and used for fighting wolves and for climbing in mountains. She is definitely a headhunter !
Wasn't expecting a Star Wars equivalent to Skyrim, but there sure are a lot of mods.
My take on ships like this are that, as long as the parts can still be made, these ships will never be outdated since their usefulness is measured by their performance.
Whether they use 1 year old systems or 20 year old systems, their speed, agility, and armament for their cheap price tag are all still the same. Certainly a newer ship could carry the same performance in a more compact package with cutting edge tech, but it'd be more expensive while still only truly deviating in size or 1~2 minor attributes.
For its price tag and ease of acquisition, a z-95 is always faster than an x-wing, always better armed than a stock TIE, always more maneuverable than a Y-Wing, whether 2 years later or 2 decades later.
So no matter its age, if parts persist, a z-95 like many ships will still always be a serviceable choice.
I really wish they had named the clone Z-95 a z-90 or something else. They look very different than the 4 engine z-95 that you see during the rebellion era.
They did initially. The databank called the Clone variant the "Z-85".
the z95 is just... it's more or less something we can see ourselves use more than any other star fighter
Was never a fan of TCW version much preferred the more common Legend's version. Great video mate.
This is my Favorite star wars starship in history it's just so cool 😆
For the longest time, the only ones who spoke of the Z-95 were the 80's and 90's generation Star Wars fans. It was one of the highlights of playing X-wing and Tie Fighter series for the PC in the 90's. The original Z-95 was not faster then the X-wing, and it handled much like a Y-wing. (For those who played the X-wing series...you know what i'm talking about) Trust me, no one said "Awesome! I get to fly the Z-95 this mission!". It was slow, limited weapons, and no shielding in the 90's series pc games. It felt like a punishment to fly the thing in any type of assault mission. It's cheap nature is why mercs in the series would fly them. Very odd to hear "It has a cult following".
I loved the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games. They really put you in the Star Wars universe like nothing else at the time.
There was also a Han Solo book published in 1979, Han Solo at Stars' End, where Han and some outlaw techs have to fly "outdated" Z-95 Headhunters against Corporate Sector Authority fighters. I don't remember where I picked up the book because it was before my time but for a pre-Expanded Universe Star Wars novel I remember enjoying it.
Right off the bat, I forgot there was one in Star Wars Jedi survivor.
The Z-95s always had an hyperdrive
Z-95 is a classic, and if you want to know what the REAL start of the rebellion was, fly Skulls and Wishbones (Z-95s and Y-Wings) versus TIEs. You will really miss the X-Wing, and I have always wanted to run an Incom Defection story arc.
Thank you for using Republic measurements in Wook's and Jawa's. It's much easier to understand than the Empires metric system with meters and liters. 😂
The Z-95 is a true example of a classic.
The Z-95 is the starfighter equivalent of the Mosin-Nagat. Obsolete and ancient, but somehow involved in almost every major conflict since its inception.
I’m not a fan of the standard Clone Z-95 despite being superior in atmosphere than the X-Wing and Arc 170 but with modification of foldable wings, an astromech, a class 1 hyperdrive a strong power plant and 8 proton torpedoes would makes it a great naval bomber.
I loved using this fighter a wing is a close second
I believe Berch Teller used one during his campaign and used it to escape the Empire. Although he would later meet his end while trying to kill Tarkin.
6:29 red paint scheme? Instantly recognizable? Sends enemies into near panic? Kinda seems like they took the inspiration from the Red Baron of WW1 😎
I would prefer it to a TIE Fighter in a dogfight, but would always exchange it against a TIE Interceptor for that role. The Z-95's shields are basically as strong as attaching cardboard as armor - meaning they are not really significant. But if the Z-95-version has a hyperdrive, it is obviously superior to normal TIEs because you can just decide to fight another day and escape... 😉
Nice video man!
It's the 240z of fighters. Small, light, simple, and reliable, and performs far better than it should for the price.
Can't drive that car without constant thumbs up, horns, and comments.
Americans using anything but the metric system:
Metric’s just a fad, like the interweb
Metric is dumb, especially with temperature. Celsius is for water. Fahrenheit is what's measurable for people. Beyond that, why measure people in centimeters when it's a ridiculous amount so feet and inches make more sense. We use the metric system where it really matters, shell sizes and drug movement. We are not wrong here, it's just taking other people way too long to adapt to better conversion systems
@@joelbibeault1169 America is the last country to use Imperial for measurements bud. It is not better in any way.
@@FrakMunkie say that 3 beluga whales in America
Damn right we don't use the metric system.
Z-95 is the Skyrim of star fighters.
the cockpit view of the z-95 gave me a question, is the reason why most fighters have their guns on the wing tips is due to how bright they are? like, are they put at a distance instead of closer to canopy so that they don't blind the pilot when shooting?
First time I saw them was in Tie Fighter game. Love blowing them up too.. lol
I remember when I watched the prequel trilogy, about the clone wars, and they had neither the clone wars, nor the Z-95
I don't know how people keep getting this wrong, but the Z-95 was not a precursor X-Wing and was in fact a swing-wing craft not capable of interstellar flight, mostly used in atmosphere, or at the most exospheric.
SETI ASHGAD REFERENCE 🔥🔥🔥🔥 HE DOESNT GET OLD🔥🔥
Imagine bolting the wings and engines from an arc-170 onto this
To me the z-95 head-hunters will always be the immediate predecessor to the xwing
The predecessor of the X-Wing's.
4:09 gah daym boi all them tabs
holy shit and it got the readcomiconline url bar. how do you people keep watching low effort slop like this?
Someone has been listening to the x-wing books re-releasing on audible
1:29 was this just rendered in blender? how did you get this close up of the Z-95 like this?
Considering that the Aurek was used for thousands of years, the Z-95 and X-wing line will probably persist for that long in some form or another if Star Wars new canon ever goes that far.
OK, I'm a bit confused. Does this ship originally come fitted with 2 or 4 engines? The designs shown here can't seem to keep one consistent over the other.
I see that you liked my work enough to use it in your video, it's a shame you didn't reach out to me before using it, it could have been fun to have a dialog, share thoughts, maybe I could have wiped up some fancy renders for you in exchange for a shoutout.
Should be in the description but if not let me know and I'll put it
The hunters are my favorite fighters the z95 and the tie hunter
Hoohohohoho, finally talking about NY favorite starfighter, huh?
yes more vids
Nice video really enjoyed it but quick question, what does SBD and RU stand for... how many turbo laser shoots from Star Destroyer can 50 SBD take... or was SBD and RU just random units created to give Star Wars ships some stats.
im pretty sure the clone variant is larger than the x-wing but the model before that was slightly shorter than the x-wing
i love it since its the tier 0 starter ship in SWG.
is it 16m long, seems oversized. it looks more similar to e-wing and x-wing dimensions, around 11-12m in length. logically it shouldn't be bigger than arc-170 if it were more maneuverable. 16m is almost as long as an LAAT
Could you explore halo vehicles such as the Scorpion, Scarab, Wraith, Banshee, Longsword, Pelican and Phantom as well as halo species lore?
why didn't we ever see this in the prequels
I’d like to see a a minor ship designated for a planetary fleet having secured the rights to produce new Z-95 headhunters in cannon.
Is that a VR mod for X-Wing: Alliance?
1:57
Where did you get source of the RU and SBD of the Executor-class? Not even Wookieepedia found this information.
I think look at the page for SBD and RU themselves
@@MetaNerdzLore I heard of a ISD 3 a fan made ship of star wars of the Empire
Probably from X-Wing Alliance?
Mind you, it's probably a bit out of date, with it being 19 km now, etc.@@MetaNerdzLore
The empire had the perfect starfighter, and chose to discontinue it. Insanely modular, adaptive, reliable, low maintenance, low maintenance cost, and cheap to buy/produce. Being 80k while the TIE is 60k is already great, since the base model is already overall better, but I bet that 60k TIE fighter is the cost the Empire gets with a military contract.
Imagine how cheap the Z-95 would have been if the Empire got a massive contract for their Navy? The empire could have also asked for a modification for an astromech socket, and a hyperdrive on a base model for their Navy. The empire would then have a very flexible and effective fighter that can handle most situations thrown at it for a little higher cost of a TIE.
Please do the ISD next
Still want to see the IRD!
And this isn't even what a Z-96 looks like. I figure Grumman got upset, But Brian Daley's original description was of a Swing wing, twin tailed, two engine Arrowhead of a ship. Gee, I wonder what fighter that sounds like.
When you're a pilot in the Republic but you secretly fantasize about being a TIE fighter pilot... the Z95 is the answer.
The precorsor to the iconic X-wing.
The arc 170 and Z95 headhunter ran so the xwing could fly
Is there a particular reason there are two different designs for the Headhunter, the more wedge shaped design shown in the size comparison with the X-Wing, and the shorter, stubbier looking version that is shown in the later artwork used in the video, which is what it looks like as a physical miniature in the Fantasy Flight Games X-Wing game?
I don't like the base Z-95 but I like the hyperdrive equipped variants. The lack of a hyperdrive just limits the strategic uses of the original too much. Its great for planetary and system defense but for things like convoy escort or offensive operations I want fighters that don't have to be deployed from carriers when reaching a system or recovered before departing.
If I'm commanding a fighter carrying ships or ships on an offensive in Star Wars I want to be able to jump to a point near my target, deploy my fighters then have the fighters and the base ship, or ships ready to hit the ground fighting as soon as we arrive at the target. Likewise if I'm running a convoy escort I want to be able to have at least some of my fighters in the air while in hyperspace in case we run into an interdictor or an ambush at the jump zone of a system we are visiting. And if worse comes to worse regardless of mission, and we have to retreat the fighters being able to jump on their own instead of a carrier having to pick them up before jump becomes a very good thing.
Can you convert hyperdrive upgrades into easier to understand classes?
the Z-95 is the maxim gun of star wars ships
A remnant of the old republic's might
Rogue squadron was able to sell their Z-95s Headhunters because of the cult following. and because those were used to liberate Corescant. So they were historical too.In the real world it would be like being able to buy a Spitfire or Hurricane veteran fighter of the Battle of Britain.
some of that footage (@5:22 mark) looked like a video game (?). If so, which one was it? Game or show, I would love to see more. Thank you.
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
Why? Look at it! Its for x wing lovers but don't want to be that guy who flies exclusively x wings. It also looks really badass.
