Question, looking at your tools I saw a cigarette to SAE adapter. I have watched your other videos on adapting solar panels to charge my Bluetti AC200p, you put two solar panels in parallel after adapting SAE to MC4.
Seems to me that would result in less loss of power since we do not need to convert DC to AC and then convert AC back to DC.
Since the AC200p needs 24v, and my Ford provides 4 cigarette lighter plugs, I could use two of them with the adapters wires in serial. Would this work?

Ordered power adapter and 8mm 14awg cord from your links, a male 3-prong with exposed ends from Amazon, assembled it this morning and it works great!! This will reduce generator run time by more than half and still run in eco mode.
Thank you very much for this video, the detailed instructions, and the links for the parts.

We are in Wyoming on vacation. Actually today is a travel day so we are making sure phones and iPads are charged before we leave for the airport. The agonizingly slow rate of charge reminded me of how jazzed I am to have found your channel and among other things did this project. Charging the Bluetti 240 was relatively agonizingly slow at 170w. But now, at 450 or better... it still makes me smile. The cooling fans for both units come on and given that this time of year my cabin interior is about 60°, I’m not concerned about heat degradation. Great job, HT!!

Just use the solar power cable that came with the Bluetti, all you need to do is to buy another 3 foot solar cable with the standard solar M4 connectors, cut it in half and connect it to the solar cable that came with the Bluetti 1500 and then connect the other end to the variable transformer and your done. I also do this with the EcoFlo Delta 1300, and I can use my 800 watt inverter sportsman generator, That was one thing I did not like about the plug in charge that is enternally built into the Ecoflo Delta 1300 You needed at least a 1200 watt inverter generator. But this way you can charge it at 440 watts and use a smaller generator.

Going to build one for a Bluetti AC300 and test it this weekend. A slightly different way of doing it. The Bluetti already has a nice 4-pin DC input that goes out to solar connectors, a set of 2 connections. Will be adapting to connect to this with a 12.5A 600-watt supply. If it works well enough, I will add a second as option possibly. My large gas/propane puts out gobs of power, but the Bluetti doesn't like it (non-inverter style). But that AC output from it should power these adjustable power supplies just fine. Some of these newer ones allow both voltage and current now. I can see using one set of lines coming in dedicated for solar panels and the other for the generator. Getting out and tweaking the generator governor to get 60hz under load is a PITA when freezing outside. If this works, no more cold excursions as the generator starts with a remote.🙂

Great stuff as always. However, the center pin of the 7.9mm plug isn't connected (unless it's a smart PSU like on some HP laptops which require 5 volts on it), rather it's the inner surface of the barrel that carries the current as pos outer being the ground/neg.

I have a Bluetti EB1500 in a tiny sometimes camper van, with no solar. I operate it as gas over electric. I have a 500W pure sine inverter supplying the stock wall charger. It charges at 210W. I suppose it's drawing around 250W. I tried it with cigarette power port in the van. That's a no no. The video implied it was possible but it's on the bleeding edge of the vehicle 20A fuses and the cigarette plug can get hot enough to burn you and maybe melt. I caught it before it did that. Those are good only up to 150W. So I used 10ga straight from the battery. For my specific way of van travel vacations where I move almost every day, and boondock or primitive camp often, it's fine. (With 250K miles on a Transit Connect I am not up for doing anything permanent to the van, so I kludge)

The newest eb240 has a 42v 5A charger & sucks about 200-213W. Now maxoak has gone from 170 to 200+, could they have been SO CAUTIOUS? The max spec input is given as 60v at 10A with 73v OVP, which should certainly allow 400+W,
but I notice that using the stock charger, it blinks off regularly to green, then immediately back to red, yet still charges at almost the same rate as when plugged into the wall.
I've done this on several different days, but hesitate to use your adjustable charger because of (it's quality &) the draw on my lighter's socket (although. I've a 170A system on my Ram tradesman). I'm about to drive to the lower 48 so
I'm tempted to get your charger & a shitload of fuses. BTW, I've also got a goal zero 500w and the Besteck works perfectly with IT'S charger, but the 60-80W or so that I get from that doesn't compare with goal zero's 120w car charger! Difficult to find, though.

  • @JPD1230

If I were to use this but instead of plugging the AC cord into a standard wall outlet, I plug it into the Bestek 300w inverter..what would be the highest setting I could go?. I’m wondering if I can get more than the 170w you get when using the stock power brick. I should mention that I have a special “high amp” 12v plug that came with the van from the factory. It is rated at 25amps. It seems I have much more power available to push to the power station to but the power brick caps at 170watt charge rate. Like at least a 100 more watts at 270 using this voltage box...yes?
One other question....I currently own the Bestek 300w...what if I were to get a pure sine wave inverter over 500 (800-1000) that is hook directly to the car battery, could I then hit the 50v max?. I do also have a heavy duty upgraded alternator that was an option from the factory. Do you think that kind of higher load would harm the alternator over time?. Thank you for all that you do!!!

I'm considering getting this, but wouldn't it be easier to use #3 of positive (+V) and #1 of negative (-V), being that they're closer together? #1-3 Of each are probably just bus barred together anyway.

Why do some eb150's have the color display? It seems that the early models have color and the latest models have mono chrome. Just got my eb150 direct from bluetti. Has a few nice upgrades from the original model. Not the display though...mono chrome...haa. Any thoughts on why they switched?
Great video content and presentation. Keep em coming.

Got the charger and hooked up like you said works great ( If you can solar change at 500 watts , it should not hurt the bluetti 150 maybe) There was a little switch that came with it in a plastic bag, what’s it for?

It's for remote voltage adjustment if you install the unit inside a box.

So, considering solar charging and the Bluetti, placing solar panels in series to step up the voltage for faster charging is pretty much advertised as a "feature." However, if I'm reading you correctly, the moment you exceed the voltage of the factory brick, you are introducing more wear onto the battery bank. There is no difference between using the China charger to step up voltage vs using solar panels to do the same...correct?

I'm curious. Stuff I can't talk to Bluetti about. I'm having troubles with my Bluetti EB150 through Rich Solar. I've had to get Amazon involved because it's been over a week with no response for help from RS. My first problem I had is when I used my gaming laptop on the first full charge and played for approx 11hrs until the sogen was fully discharged. The problem is that the Bluetti LCD screen was showing only a 40-60watt draw but I know my laptop takes 140-160watts especially when gaming. The batteries depleted as if I were using 140-160watts even though the screen only showed 40-60watts. When charging tablets, phones, charging bricks, etc. I have to plug in about 6 devices until it even shows that I'm getting any draw of watts and it only displays around 11 or so. I can't talk to them about my next issue and that's is I put together one of your fast chargers in this video. Mine is only 480watts but when I charge and turn the dial all the way up it. It only goes to 30 volts. when I unplug it from the eb150 the charger will goto and sit at 50volts. The Bluetti however when I charge shows max 255watts input at the 30volts but it still fully charged today with 1 bar at the start in 3hrs. WTF?

Considering if I may use this DIY charger to charge up my AC300+B300 during the blackout from gasoline generator. Does it accept AC with a modified sine wave? AC300 won't take any power from from generator, showing just volts and frequency, zero watts

    • @SgtSkrog
      @SgtSkrog 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

I am thinking this may work, the Bluetti wants clean power on the AC side (voltage and frequency) and the built in controllers do not like the dirty power from older gas generators. If you plug this into your generator however the output is now DC, you have gotten past that dirty power issue. Of course using a different port on the Bluetti.

Hi Prof'. Can you charge 2 x 500wh solar generators at the same time from 1 x 150w solar panel, with a cable splitter. I haven't tried it in case I damage the solar batteries. Also can I fit a bluetooth voltmeter to a jackery 500 so that I can check it when its hidden in its cupboard. Thank you for all your vids, you explain with simple terms that I can understand without the technospeak babble that some channels use. Thanks again 🇬🇧😷🌧

Love your videos - your presentation and mix of fun (Odin's outro is so perfect!) and I really appreciate it.
Question - do you have a list of current Portable Power Stations ("solar generators" heh heh) that have the regulated 12V Cigarette lighter outlet? I understand I need this specifically for my 12V CPAP connection? I am aware that the Jackery 500 and the Bluetti 1500/2400 have it, but are their others?

    • @HOBOTECH

All Jackerys do as well as the large Bluetti models. Some Suaoki do and all of EcoFlow does. I believe Point Zero does but not sure as I haven't reviewed those.

@@HOBOTECH Thank you for the fastest response, ever! Unfortunately I am in Canada, and all the Jackery's (over 240) are sold out :( Here's hoping they send more north, soon :)

Yes, this seems to be a big problem. Unfortunately, Amazon (and government regulations on shipping batteries over borders) makes it into a huge hassle to ship these things to Canada so most companies don't bother. I'm almost considering providing a relay service, but I don't think most would want to pay for it.

HT, I have the 2400 based on your review and I love it.
At about 22:20 you’re talking about how fast-charging heats up the battery therefore decreasing long term battery life. My question is, since the 2400 can accept up to 500W solar charge, is that the same as fast-charging at 500W..? The unit doesn’t know whether the charge coming in is from an ac source or solar source.
Typically my 4 panel setup provides about 340-360 watts on a sunny day, is that ultimately causing some rapid charging damage? Thanks for your help and congrats on the new house! Man your views are outstanding!!!

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Charging at 500w isn't going to cause damage as long as the Bluetti is staying cool. It's the heat that causes the degradation.

HOBOTECH Thank you!! I bought the power adapter using your link, I am having trouble finding the heavier duty cable you suggest for the Bluetti.
Thank you very much for your response. I know as your channel grows we won’t always be so fortunate to have your personal response.
Edit: Watched your video again, toward the end, “bigger 8mm adapter cable” that I’ll hack. Got it. Now, back to your amazon site. 🙂
