    I never really liked Pro-L2 exactly because it sucked lows and sounded 'grey' if you know what I mean.. It focuses the sound on the high mids usually. I love L1 on vocals and guitars for smoothing out the peaks, but on master bus Weiss MM1, Flatline or Ozone 9/10 Maximizer are always winning with the right settings, at least for my ears and taste. However with the new Waves subscription model I guess I need to find the right alternative for my L1, RBass and RComp.

      @@psybursonic usually it's the case but sometimes I like Ozone Maximizer or clipping with Flatline better for certain genres. However I'm not a big fan of clipping in Ozone 10 - sounds wrong to me and not transparent at all

  • @vinnowater
    @vinnowater ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve been a big advocate for Pro-L2 ever since I’ve bought it a few years ago but I recently tried using Ozone’s Maximizer for an EP I was mastering and it sounded way cleaner on the kicks and bass. I tried tweaking the Pro-L2 and basically never got it perfectly clean. I ended up using the Maximizer (2 or 3dB of GR on the peaks) to get the bulk of the level and the Pro-L2 in True Peak on transparent mode (0.5 of GR) to get the last 5%. Client was really happy with the results ! Winning combo.
    I’ll experiment a bit more with that chain but it felt amazing in my ears.
    I still like the character of L1 for EDM and for mixing very dynamic vocals or transient heavy claps. It gives everything a really warm tone by softening the attacks.

      @@panorama_mastering If you're going to open this up to more "modern" limiters, IMO the Newfangled Elevate is hugely underrated. I've never loved what the IRC algos have done to my high end, especially v4. Elevate gives me a lot more control at the limiting stage to control tone if the track isn't reacting well to limiting.

    For this test, I hear better low end preservation on the L1 and it sounds smoother overall. Pro-L2 eats up the low end and sounds a little harsh. My favorite is Ozone Maximizer if I really wanna go loud and retain punch and low end.

    That was a good test, but I wonder how much closer they would sound to each other if you did this on a higher sample rate, cause I was pretty sure that I heard a lot of highend hiss on that waves plugin and that's usually the aliasing from all those noisy edm hats and snares

    I still use my L2-Ultramaximizer sometimes, but probably because the name makes it sound important. I mainly use the Bx Masterdesk. It's got just a little more flexibility, and I usually like what I end up with. I'd probably use the Waves one more often if I could 'dial-it-in' a little better.
