Oliver, you are the Master of the Mega65 Tutorials !!!! Thank you so much for your anticipation so that anyone can comfortly start to use the Mega65 when it lands at home :)
This is absolutely fantastic! Obviously I would want all the functionality of the MiSTer but that won't ever be possible (perhaps a sub-set...) It would be great to have any of the 68k machines (Amiga, ST, Macintosh, Sun workstation...) It would be splendid to have DOS! Perhaps even something like a 386 with co-processor and run Windows 95... 😁
The porting effort is currently aimed at 8 bit home computers. But we certainly want to see an Amiga 500 and an Atari ST. The C64 Core is laying the groundwork for further ports.
Thanks, nice to hear! I will try to keep up :) Yes, the MEGA65 has it's price, but it has a lot of potential in the coming years. And with the MiSTer2MEGA65 tutorial coming, we hope to get a lot more micro cores running on it.
Order? You mean the second someone ports the Amiga core from MiSTer... it is certainly planned to port more cores, and I know there are a lot of folks waiting for the Amiga.
I followed all the steps, and the M65DEV core works fine. But if I select the C64 core in the cores menu while booting, the screen just goes black and the Power and Drive LED's alternate flashing blue. Yet there were no error messages while installing the core. Any ideas?
The C64 Core is still in a very early stage. There are currently some problem with the interaction of the C64 core and the bitstream running on the auxiliary MAX10 FPGA. The team is aware of this, and a solution is in the works. If you want to be up to date, please come to the MEGA65 discord and keep an eye on the #other-cores channel.
Hello Oliver, thanks for your great video...What can you do if the core doesn't work...I have the "blue light" problem....I tried the core with the identifier 100 MHz...I did no longer see the "blue light", it does not start... what can be the reason? Greetings Danny
If the Power light is solid green, and you get no picture, this is most probably a incompatibility with your display. HDMI outputs only HDMI (so with Audio). This means DVI connection will not work. And it starts with a 50Hz picture, this might also be a problem. To fix this blind press HELP, 4x CURSOR UP, RETURN to switch to 60Hz, this might help. If your display can only do DVI, then you can download the DVI test core. For all of this sy2002 is working on a more suitable solution. We also encountered Problems with high quality 8k HDMI cables. Try a basic one, the might work best. Or is it VGA? Then I need more information. If you can drop by in the MEGA65 discord channel #other-cores, this might be a more direct way to communicate.
Two things I do not fully understand: Am I right that Slot (0) is not booting at all and only Slot (1) (and 2, etc.) is booting? It’s an interesting option with the DIP-switch inside to choose between 1 and 2 - but on one side there are 7 slots (so what if I want to always boot into e.g. 4?) and on the other side wouldn’t it be better if the favorite core to boot at cold start could be selected in the menu and will be saved into some kind of BIOS memory?
Slot 0 boots if the default boot slot is not occupied. It's the fallback slot. And the safety net if you accidentally break your default boot slot. Note that as long as you only reset the system, it will keep the core that was selected. Only power cycle will revert to the default boot slot. Some kind of different boot slot selection might be possible in the future. The system keeps a separate partition where the config parameters and the freeze slots are stored. Here it would theoretically be possible to save a default boot slot. The DIP Switch was just faster to implement. There are also other ways to switch cores: for example with a JTAG interface you can push the core using m65 tool or M65Connect from your PC.
@@OliverGraf ok, I understand. Thank you for the detailed information! When more cores are coming I think a basic system wide video configuration would be better.
@@ClarkCWSKent I just found out that it is possible to boot a slot by keypress, while looking for a way to implement it :) Just hold NO SCROLL and the number key of the slot you want to boot and power on the machine. NO SCROLL will start the Flasher which will immediately read the number and start the slot.
Ja, das passiert wenn man kurz entschlossen einen Livestream an einem nicht vorher eingerichteten und durchgetesteten Ort macht... Danke für deinen Kommentar, ich habe mich unverzüglich in die Ecke gestellt!
Great tutorial, Oliver!
You are very qnice ;) Thank you!

Thank you very much! :)
Excellent video and thanks for the DIP switch tip!
Great video Oliver. Thank you very much for making it. Looking forward for more. It will keep me sane while I wait for the 2nd batch Mega65 shipment…
I got my Mega65 2 days ago. Ths tutorial was so helpful. Thank you. ps I'm loving this computer.

Clear and easy to follow. Too bad the machine is so expensive.

The second they order an Amiga core, I'm in :-)

Having the C64 Core on the MEGA65 now means, I do not need my Ultimate 64 Elite anymore ... ? ;-)
Well, it's only revision 1 yet, here are still some features that need to be added...
:D I had the same idea, because of course, 1 machine tu rule them all :P
Einfach nur peinlich…
