Took cues from our collaborative speed video (th-cam.com/video/Xx1njgEzTFk/w-d-xo.html) How do I cram it all into a small amount of time while still giving the content value.
The display window functionality was already there on the PET in Basic 4.0. Just with some control codes (there were no escape codes yet back then): chr$(15) and chr$(143)
My understanding was that version 1 manuals will be shipped until the supply has been exhausted. I also think there were several buyers who wanted this original manual for their collection. Remember, you can also download the electronic version of V2 and you can have a printed copy sent to you. I know, disappointing, but at least you can easily get the content. Oh, and of course, this video version. 😂 I'm editing chapter 5 now.
Well, I find interesting, I notice that that the Commodore CBM II, B128 series there were 10 function keys, but somehow with all the later remaining 8 bit series were all limited to fewer function keys. Not sure, if the keyboard scan matrix didn't allow for 12 functions like modern keyboards. Yes, the Pet character code is neat. But I'll be curious to know how Commodore came up with their schema of encoding lower/upper letters.
I was not aware that the CBM II had 10 function keys and I have very limited familiarity with the device. Very interesting and something I need to research more. Thanks for the info!
Ah, I must have missed it somewhere. However, as for entering the curly braces, would that be in combination with either ':' or ';' and the commodore key? Wow, I'm shocked that the original PETSCII character set, didn't include '{' and '}' characters.
Hey, Neighbor! Very cool to know there's someone a couple of counties over into the same hobby. I found the neo light over at www.retroledsigns.com/Commodore-logo-LED-sign-Bright-multicolor-nearly-10-wide-662-LEDs-p483562276 Great to hear from you!
Excellent content as always. If everything goes well we only have to wait a few more weeks for the shipping of the next batch. 28:30 I thought inserting a C64 cartridge would force the computer to use the C64 core (if available on the SD card) instead of make it "GO 64" with the Mega65 core. Am I wrong?
Thanks for the kind words. We'll spend more time on cores in a later chapter. Since at this point in time in the manual we wouldn't have the C64 Core installed, inserting the cart will take us to GO64 mode but as you state, there is an option now on the MEGA≡65 to have the core the default C64 mode. More on this topic in a later chapter. Great question.
I’m binging these videos while dealing with a bit of a feaver, hearing “To press F2 press shift and F1” confused me for far, far longer than it should have
Great job retrocombs! Well done on packing in so much detail! Appreciate the effort you took to piece it all together :-)

I did not know that! Thanks for sharing and now I want to fire up my PET and give it a shot, or at least VICE…stand by…It worked! Very cool.
For some reason Trenz sent me the old handbook - I knew there's a new one thx to you! - but they promised to send me the new one, too!

Greetings neighbor from Bloomington! Where did you get the commodore neon light from ?

You can (with the 096 release) set the C64 cartridge flag on the core level. This will force THAT core to start when a C64 cart is detected.
I'll share how to do this in a later chapter. Thanks for the reminder.
Super once more
Thanks so much! Having a blast putting these together.

Nope…I get it!!! Hope you are feeling better.
