I think you are right about preparing each board of that shiplap. Whitewash each board before hanging was much easier! Live and learn is good for me too. Plus you did end up with a beautiful ceiling. Worth the time.
I vividly remember studying for my certification as an addiction professional. The whole process took about 3 years, and when I received my letter that I passed the orals and exam I cried most of the day. No hard and dedicated work to the glory of God goes unnoticed or unfulfilled. The ceiling looks gorgeous. It's all downhill for you now my friend so now you can really enjoy the journey.
Yeah that is one killer shoulder workout for sure. On the brightside I noticed Emily is all smiles after the walls and the painting was done. Great job.
Thank you for showing your technique and troubleshooting. This is the look I am going for, for part of a wall in my kitchen. I will use the 50/50 mix and test a board. And I will whitewash all the boards before installation, it’s probably easier .
I have done same on existing ceiling and is extremely tuff on neck, arm and back. My next new installed wood ceiling I painted prior to installing the ceiling.
Regardless of how you got there, the ceiling, as finished is spectacular! There are so many things in that great open space that draw your eyes upward- and what a reward! Hard Work, though! FR
The problem is that you do not see the work going in,... great job you two! You see those remodel programs on tv, the pict up a brush, one stroke of paint, a hot wit a hammer and then the next shot they are finished. I know remodel by yourself is work, hard work. 90% is behind the walls, in the floors, in the ceilings... again great job!
Sorry but I have to be honest and say I liked it much better before with the natural wood look was an awesome contrast to the room/s. Glad you worked through the issues and ended up liking it though lol!! Good job :).
Reaching overhead like that for hours, yikes.....Yes, it would've definitely felt daunting at the beginning...lol.......but you guys got it done and it looks awesome.....
Wow,, it's hard to start a project like that. Right from the start you want to just say forget it. You did it. Big applause to you. I would have taken the easy route. Your arms, neck and shoulders must have been burning. Good on you Paul for the determination, or is it OCD?
Looks awesome! We are currently building a modern farm house and want to do this in the living room and master bedroom. Any thoughts on doing the whitewash on the pine boards before we do the installation? Also, what brand of scaffolding is that you're using?
Que hermosa esta quedando su casa y se vera increíble cuando ya esté toda terminada gracias por compartir sus videos saludos desde San Felipe chile 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
We chose not to. We've since added a quarter round piece all along the edge where the ceiling meets the drywall. We absolutely would whitewash the boards BEFORE install though haha.
Ms. M not picking on you specifically, my experience anytime a woman changes her mind on a started project it ends up taking a lot longer then first thought. But got to keep the wives happy. Happy wife happy life.
Never make a woman your purpose in life. The man rules and the woman follows. He should do what he wants, just like a good father does for his children. Wives are to be treated similarly.
Mr. Marshall, if pine wood is painted, whether opaque or transparent, the resinous spots will discolour over time, especially the dark spots. It does not matter whether it is opaque or transparent painted. You have to love it, luckily people don't keep looking up at the ceiling, so it will all be fine.
If you kept track of all the hours you have spent building and landscaping and you received 10 dollars per hour you would be a millionaire many times over !
Got to say, not a big fan of this. I prefer the original wood tones.. should've gone with a clear sealer. No biggy, your place. Still looks decent tons of work .. 💪 props to your wife helping. My old maid wouldn't do that at all.
Hi Paul, I see the advantage of "whitewash rather than paint", good choice for long term. It's old fashioned but many still use it. What a job you hd though :( all that "above your head" work is not at all easy. Good finish though :)
I love your channel but as someone who works with aerial lifts daily I was concerned to see you and the small child in the lift without wearing a safety harness. It is very unsafe and a fall from that height can be deadly.

What a terrific look. I love how this finish gives the best of both-pine and soft white.
Yeah that is one killer shoulder workout for sure. On the brightside I noticed Emily is all smiles after the walls and the painting was done. Great job.
Ceiling came out great. Your wife is a true delight and so helpful and easy-going
I like the look of wood, but I Love the look of white washed !!! Awesome job, You Guys !
I’ve binge watched you in the past, but I grow impatient and have to let the episodes build up. So nice to see it coming together.
I do that also with a couple channels....its nice to watch a few in a row
It looks fantastic, much better than full white would have. Sorry you had all that extra work, but I think you'll be glad you stuck with it.
You’re a better man than I. I would’ve just painted the ceiling. “Sorry hon, wouldn’t work otherwise.”
You guys are a super couple, looks so beautiful
The work ethic you two have is amazing!
Looks fantastic! Rule of projects, first 90% of project takes 90% of the time, last 10% takes 90% of the time. :)
It turned out great. Good call on preserving the look of the woodgrain instead of painting.
looks good! That was a lot of trust in that extension ladder strung out horizontally, I barely trust mine vertically.
It might have been a big pain but it looks great. It's all coming together, beautiful.
Thank you for showing your technique and troubleshooting. This is the look I am going for, for part of a wall in my kitchen. I will use the 50/50 mix and test a board. And I will whitewash all the boards before installation, it’s probably easier .
Glad it was helpful!
We used to call the process you used on the ceiling "pickeling". It looks beautiful! I'm rooting for you with every video each week.
Great result. I’m sure you’re glad your days of high-altitude tasks are numbered… esp. those where you’re reaching overhead- yow!
Looks great! Overtime did any of the knots start 'bleeding' thru the whitewash?
The ceiling looks beautiful. Hard process, admire your hard work.
good to see you guys get a win under your belt. sometimes that all it takes to get back on track. keep it going!
I have done same on existing ceiling and is extremely tuff on neck, arm and back. My next new installed wood ceiling I painted prior to installing the ceiling.
Thanks for the video! How does it look now? April 2022?
Man my shoulders are killing just watching this. Must have been a helluva shoulder workout!
that extra time you spent will be well worth it , every time you look up.
Regardless of how you got there, the ceiling, as finished is spectacular! There are so many things in that great open space that draw your eyes upward- and what a reward! Hard Work, though! FR
I'm sure it makes for sore neck and shoulders but it turned out beautiful.
That really does look good, glad you found a great solution. Great job.
You are a true perfectionist Paul! It looks great, well worth the effort. Cheers.

I wouldve varnished it and left it natural. I think it wouldve been a nice transition from white walls, to a pine ceiling.
That was a good option. It looks really great!
You sir have the patience of a saint!
The ceiling turned out great!
Sorry but I have to be honest and say I liked it much better before with the natural wood look was an awesome contrast to the room/s. Glad you worked through the issues and ended up liking it though lol!! Good job :).
It looks amazing despite how hard it looked.. great job 😊
would suggest applying a coat of dead flat varnish over your whitewash
Love the ladder bridge!!!
If there was ever a don't try this at home...
It looks great but just thinking and I know you decided after the fact would white washing from the get go been better?
It looks great!!! Lots of work but it's all great.
Impressed thus far, hope it really does work over time.
We are going ready to do this in our home. Would you mind sharing what type of paint (flat, etc.), brand, and color you used? Thank you.
Ceiling looks great, good job!!
A pain in the rear and so worth the extra time to get it just right.
I am curious as to how it looks now? I know pine can orange/yellow over the years so wondering how it looks as it has aged.
Turned out very nice!
Gorgeous!
It does look lovely
Great job, been there done that xx
“ Got some paint here “- put a stick in it with “THAT amount of water”! 😂
Reaching overhead like that for hours, yikes.....Yes, it would've definitely felt daunting at the beginning...lol.......but you guys got it done and it looks awesome.....
This will not stop photo aging (yellowing) A UV blocking top coat would help a lot. It looks really good.
Thank you!

I would do it before if you are able. Much easier.
Metal tech is the company name for scaffolding.
Looks OK If you had white washed boards before you put them up would it have looked as good.
health & safety my friend should take care on them ladders
Looks very nice
I love it. I was hoping you would leave it natural or close to natural somehow
It looks great!!!!
Love the look!
Que hermosa esta quedando su casa y se vera increíble cuando ya esté toda terminada gracias por compartir sus videos saludos desde San Felipe chile 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
Looks great.
Thanks!
It's Beautiful
Looks good.
Looks good! Hope that it lasts.
Do u need to sand it fine or u can leave it little rough before we white wash
Would pre-staining helped
looks Beeeeeutiful
What type of paint? Flat? Semi-gloss?
What brand of lights did you put in the ceiling pls
Aw the safety Karen's are going to be sending you nasty messages lol looks great
Time for a hot shower... ceiling came out great!!!
I makes me think it is called Milk Paint. Comes out transluscent.
Did you have to do any caulking? If so is that done before white wash?
We chose not to. We've since added a quarter round piece all along the edge where the ceiling meets the drywall. We absolutely would whitewash the boards BEFORE install though haha.
Is that OSHA approved scaffolding :)

Yes, we will just have to wait and see over time.
Did he just add water to the pant?
Mansions are sooo difficult.
Looks great but you walking across that ladder, that’s perched on a ladder on the edge as well is a whole lot of safety no-nos
Do you still have neck?
I that flat or semi-gloss paint?
It’s an eggshell/semi
Thanks
I think I would have used a clear water base urethane. I don't think the pine would have yellowed.
If you kept track of all the hours you have spent building and landscaping and you received 10 dollars per hour you would be a millionaire many times over !

What a job you hd though :( all that "above your head" work is not at all easy.
Good finish though :)
😀💪💪💪💪
Purchase a walk board for God's sake! Walking on an aluminum extension ladder is not a good idea. You have a family to think of.
FIRST
Not really a HOW TO more like a look what I can do
TLooks. The
woman !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many dollar bills are in the swear jar? I feel sorry for your neck and shoulders. Overhead work is absolutely horrible.
I love your channel but as someone who works with aerial lifts daily I was concerned to see you and the small child in the lift without wearing a safety harness. It is very unsafe and a fall from that height can be deadly.
Ни какой техники безопасности. No safety precautions.
