I’m getting ready to instal nickel gap on a ceiling for a client. Currently, the ceiling is exposed joist. I honestly can’t see any reason to install Sheetrock prior to Nickel gap installation. I respect your decision to do so. However, I have a different perspective. Ceiling joist should not vary. Frankly, if they do, then this variance wouldn’t be rectified by installing Sheetrock. If anything, the Sheetrock will add a significant level of difficulty to the installation and future access to plumbing and electrical connections. While the Sheetrock may add a some degree of insulation, the additional weight of the ceiling can be problematic. If you ever do have a water leak, access will be exponentially more difficult to identify and expose. I don’t see any issues with nailing directly to the ceiling joist using 2 1/2” finish nails without adhesive. I installed a shiplap ceiling directly to ceiling joist a few months ago using finish nails only. I removed a couple of boards during the installation and they were surprisingly hard to remove without adhesive. I even broke one of them trying to remove it. Personally, I like the idea of being able to remove and easily get a visual on plumbing and electrical access points without having to dig through multiple layers of ceiling panels.
Best decision we made. Not only does it add insulation value but keeps dust and dirt from working through the cracks over the years. I STRONGLY recommend sheet rock before shiplap.
DOC: I have not noticed that pond fountain/aerator running in a while. Wondering how it is holding up, and if you still Rx that model? Deciding on buying one for our pond. Thank you 😊
Hey Doc... we're wanting to put ship lap on or ceiling... my question is can we put it on are popcorn ceiling... I really don't want to scrape it off if I don't have too.

This channel reminds me of This Old House on PBS. Great content.
Thank all of you. Love to see men doing great and hard work.
Loving watching this come together. Great content
Looking great! You could become a builder. Great attention to detail. What size nails are you using for the shiplap?
Sorry, I didn’t finish watching before I asked about the nails.
Looks good Doc

Yes doing well on the aerators. The fountain we shut off during the winter.
Doc. What you use for your general. Caulking. Like for windows and doors. Interior and exterior ?

Yes, some of the ceilings are popcorn. Put right on top.
What about mold on all that wood in the bathrooms?
Never had any in 3 years on the other project
Not glue it's called adhesive
Austin needs a scaffold
Doc, the house looks great but those three disconnect switches are crooked, they look cheesy!
not screwed in yet.
