Hearing the supposed leak that Reinhardt was going to die in the story mode that we didn't get... on one hand I didn't want to believe it... but on the other hand, I could see how they were setting it up in the three missions we got. Playing through the 3 missions with him or as him, hearing his interactions, as well as the cutscenes with him, he loves being on the front lines, and wanting to feel useful. He's so impatient when they're trying to figure out what Null Sector is up to, and how they can remove the strange devices being attached to Omnics' heads, having to be stopped when he tries simply ripping it off one's head. Also the strange... Omnic prejudice he has, not toward Bastion, but the regular Omnics who are just civilians, saying they're simple machines that they could just... load a backup of their personality from a computer or something. Granted I'm sure it's more out of ignorance than any actual hatred for Omnics, but it feels so off coming from Reinhardt of all characters, and not someone like Zarya. Something that isn't brought up often is how Reinhardt was born a Crusader and warrior... but when Overwatch kicked him out, what kind of life could he live? He was meant for battle... he couldn't just retire in peace, he's not about that life. He needs to be on the front lines, and the only worthy death is dying in battle. I imagine at some point he would've sacrificed himself in a similar manner to his master, and passing the torch to Brigitte, his Squire.
I always imagined Reinhardt dying one day the same way Balderich did: Sacrificing himself for the life of many others, maybe even thousands or millions of people. I imagined a situation where a place had to be blown up, but the person setting it off would not have the time to get out, and him volunteering for it. Maybe even revealing to the others that he had a fear of getting dementia or something similar in his old age and deciding that would absolutely NOT be the way he'd go.
If rein was gonna sacrifice himself in the story mode we never got, I can only imagine one fitting way it'd happen. Charging headfirst into the enemy to force them off his team and take the enemy out along with himself in the process. Or much like his master Balderich, fending off the enemy while his team needs to make an escape from being overwhelmed, Rein making sure he is the last to get on and when it's his turn, sends them off and forces them to leave while he makes his last stand to buy time for them to escape.
Reinhardt's cinematic is still to this day the best one created by Blizzard. Saying that as a Genji and Hanzo main. I teared up a little bit when I first watched "Honour and Glory" and still catch feels when I watch it. The only things that are more tragic than a Reinhardt's past is current state of a game. Game's balance is so bad that Rein is bottom tier tank (Shimada bros are just in a Mariana trench at that point...)
I imagine reins death would have been similar to balderichs. Now let me explain: As it is mentioned, rein serves as the mentor to the youngsters and i can imagine dva reminding him an awful lot of his young self. Back In OW1 she had a lot of voicelines about getting the most kills, APM, etc. which reminded Reinhardt of his own need for glory when he was younger. So he specifically focused on her, trying to teach her that as a frontline-soldier their top priority has to be protecting the team. dva however (despite respecting him as her senior officer) brushed his lessons of as nonsensical mumbling of an old man. Even after reinhardt told her about the battle of eichenwalde (specifically balderichs sacrifice) she had no change of heart. Come their mission together: dva once again started chasing personal glory, which got her mech destroyed. As a consequence Reinhardt was forced to sacrifice himself so he could save her. After his death dva realizes rein was trying to stop her from repeating his mistakes and swears the crusaders oath. Before anyone says anything: This is nothing official, just an idea of mine.
I started my Overwatch journey as a Reaper main until i played Rein, his gameplay, his interactions, his charisma, i loved everything about him the moment i started playing him, then his short dropped and i couldnt stop crying, i love this giant german teddy bear so much to the point i got a tattoo of him, he is on the top of my inspirations list and always will be there, thank you for this video ❤️ from one (full time) tank player to another, truly thank you

Appreciate the hell out of this video, it is clear we share the same sentiment for this man among men. I have countless hours on him just solely to hear all his interactions and his personality. Reinhardt will always be one of my favorite characters, next to Echo, Bastion, and Orisa. Ram too, among a few select others that are growing on me. But Reindarht in particular is amazingly written. He's a crusader, he's selfless, and he is wise. As of the Collab, he is like the one singular true answer to "who would Optimus Prime be if he were a human". And I may not be a soldier, but I share Reinhardts view, and have been peoples' shield in a good few ways that, thankfully, haven't been combat related yet. Reinhardt is always gonna be one of my favorites, and for that reason, that me and him both used to be vastly different, but now vastly similar. The best way I've heard Rein be described is "everybody's favorite grandpa", which is peak. This game's lore is fucken incredible, and it kinda sucks that the game itself is riddled with stuff that kind of makes it suck a bit, and what OW2 was supposed to have as opposed to OW1, it is like OW1, but again. Nevertheless, still fun to play with a few friends.
I've seen so many people shit on Rein for wanting to attack Bastion at Torb's place when they either seemed to forget or don't know he has PTSD from the crisis.
Never understood that, personally. Bastion is a Walking, Talking, weapon of mass destruction, with weaponry and ordinance that could defeat any standing army known to man today. Imagine hanging out with a guy that always has an arsenal of weapons on him at all times, and which can, and probably has, used them against people for evil means in the past. I dunno how torb can be so forgiving, I’d have demolished that thing the second I got the chance.

@alicetheneko7529 perhaps I didn’t describe it accurately enough… A machine drone built with the express purpose of eradicating humanity has been damaged to the point that its processor no longer has predictable patterns, and to top that Bastion has PTSD-like episodes when something reminds him of his past. Torb and his entire family are dead, his house demolished at the very least. This isn’t a “Oh but he’s so nice” situation, he’s a war machine and has in the past acted incredibly destructively for little to no reason except being reminded of something in the past.
@@nanovega3918 Torbjorn reworked Bastion's armor and also helped with Bastion's "PTSD". At the time of "IRONCLAD", Bastion is in fact relatively harmless.
