    Thank you Jeff!!! I love doing maintenance on my machines. When I bought my B790plus, I had about 5 minutes on cleaning the thread catcher in a group of new machine owners, and I did not learn how to do. I'm a good instruction reader, but watching you on this video was just the best. Plus you give tips that the book does not. I do not use my thread catcher because I did not know how to clean it and that's one of the very attractive features of the machine! So, thank you very much. I'll be checking back for more great information.

    Brilliant. I've had terrible jams for the last 24 hours. I'd cleaned the hook and rethreaded multiple times to no avail. Turns out a piece of thread was stuck in the catcher. You've saved me a trip to the dealer!

    OMG...just like yesterdays video...this came at a perfect time! Yesterday I had thread dropping in back while embroiderying and it took me much longer to finish my design than it should have because I had to keep stopping/starting due to thread breakage/jams, etc (finally resorted to a net and it fixed it, but will be getting a command strip/wonder clip to use your method). This morning I see someone posts you addressing something in a video (turned out it was same as I watched yesterday), but saw this and knew I'd learn something. Well...I decided to power up my machine and "follow along". As soon as my machine powered up I saw a message screen and thought..."uh oh".. Well...it was TO CLEAN MY THREAD CUTTER"! How timely!!! So, I followed along and easy peasy (and best part is I got the "0" since "last thread cleaning" in my screen) . I thank you so much and look forward to ALL your videos and learning more and more!!

    • @berninajeff
      @berninajeff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually any thread caught is obvious and I puck it out with a tweezers. If you have to use a mirror that’s news to me. Some machines just have a fussy cutter unit and need a very trained tech to get it to work every time. If yours works don’t worry just dust it out.

    HiJeff, I followed along and did this but my count since last cleaning did not change. It must be stuck or something. I had my machine serviced just a couple months ago and it said 71, 700 or so. Funny thing is I don’t use the thread cutter because it doesn’t work well. It jams up my thread. I tried doing it again but it still won’t change. The cutter is now working though so that’s wonderful. Thank you so much. I don’t know if you can help but I’m desperate for help. I am having an on going problem with my Bernina 780. When I’m sewing the start stop turns red and machine stops and I have to repress foot and it starts up again. At first it was intermittent but now constant and so I can’t use it. Brought it to Bernina dealer 3x and it fixes for a month the most. I do quilt a lot. I guess they don’t know how to fix it. Can you offer any help. I wish I lived in your area. Mary

  • @berninajeff
    @berninajeff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 770 and the 790 are basically the same machine inside I am not aware or the 770 having any quirks that the 790 does not. If you embroider you will have to clean the thread cutter, that feature uses the cutter very often. The 790 has a larger screen which I love and sideways sewing and a ton of embroidery features. My opinion is that if you are not going to embroider than stick with the 770QE and only clean the thread cutter when it prompts you.

  • @berninajeff
    @berninajeff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If the thread catcher does not move during cleaning try tuning the hand wheel when it make a noise do not turn really hard. Try putting back in. If you get multiple gears when you use the cutter button you need to have the unit worked on.

    Sometimes the thread catcher does not move left or right, try turning the hand wheel after you push the scissors button this sometimes moves the unit out and in, or reboot the machine and try, make sure it has the most current firmware too.

    The black race cover is held together by pins on each side that hold on metal brackets that then screw into the machine. You will have to go to a dealer to have this repaired properly.

    • @berninajeff
      @berninajeff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to say this but when the cutter quits cutting or holding the bobbin thread you need to have the cutter serviced. Just make sure there are no visible threads stuck in the siding parts of the cutter, which i assume you did. Some machines and cutters are just fussy until a tech gets them in perfect timing.
