3D Land's first run was terrible. Absurdly easy and uninspired levels. While the second run (the "hard" one) was so much fun, felt like an actual challenge in some parts and was overall much more enjoyable. I'd buy a remaster for Switch, but only if you were able to skip the whole first run.
yeah, it was definitey overshadowed by 3d world. i think 3d world was better anyway, but 3d land was still great, and the post-game content doubling the amount of levels is pretty crazy
Because it wasn’t really doing anything new aesthetically or mechanically than what existed in Galaxy or NSMB, and took a number of things from SMB3. I mean, the game’s only new power up was an invincible old ability that turned the level into baby mode. It’s no surprise people forget about it… because it’s forgettable.
I quite like 3D Land. It's not as good as the Galaxy games, Odyssey or 3D World. But it's a cozy & easy to run by game. Till the postgame stuff that is.
I absolutely love that game. When I was a kid I watched a lot of channels similar to this that said that Galaxy 2 was just a repeat of the first one. As a kid, I copied the opinion of my favourite TH-camrs so i just agreed. I played both recently and I loved it more than the first game.

Galaxy 2 is my favorite game of all time. I remember praying that we would eventually get it remastered on the Switch sometime after 3D All Stars and we never did. For some reason around this time and ever since, Nintendo has seemingly been neglecting this game and I could never understand as to why. I appreciate seeing a video talking about not just this issue but just talking about how great this game truly was. Hopefully with Mario's 40th anniversary next year, maybe we finally get it.
I played Galaxy and Galaxy 2 when they released and I felt a little disappointed with Galaxy. It wasn't a bad game at all, the levels design was good, the graphics looked amazing, great soundtrack and controls… but I felt it lacked something. And I didn't knew what it was until Galaxy 2 was released. That blew my mind, it was so damn good on every level and improved on every single thing from the previous game. One of my favorite games ever and by far my favorite Marios (along SM64).
Super Mario Galaxy 2 has a very special place in my heart. I played the whole game in summer 2010. I played it along with my ex-best friend. We spent the whole month of July and August playing together every afternoon. He would come to my place to play for 1h or so and then we went together to the swimming pool. We were 14, very young. It's been more than 10 years now since we stopped speaking to each other. I guess we couldn't manage our emotions as teenagers. Anyway, every time I replay this videogame or watch any video related to it, I get very emotional and it increases my willingness of replaying the game. Its design is wonderful. I would say its levels are the most original ones I've ever seen in a Mario game. Pure magic. Thanks for this astonishing video. Galaxy 2 has better action and is more energetic whereas galaxy 1 captures that emptiness of outer space too well.. just by comparing Lubba to Rosalina you can see my point. And also for the observatory vs starship mario. Again, getting lost in the amazing atmosphere vs stepping right back into the action by stepping onto the wheel.
I couldn't have said it better. I am very baffled that Nintendo still hasn't brought Galaxy 2 back, I genuinely had a better time with it than with Galaxy 1. I am certain that they will bring it back someday, but it's just beyond me that they haven't already, just like Wind Waker and Twilight Princess aren't on the Switch yet.

SMG2 has been my favorite 3d Mario game ever since I played it. Nothing really beat it. I remember seeing the ads on TV a year after I got my wii. Seeing Mario and Yoshi flying around during space did something to my brain. I have beat it several times, and only 100% beat it this year. I was bored, and decided to do some of the harder levels (purple coins on rainbow road, getting the comet medals in the fluzzard levels, etc), and it has always been so INSANE and sad to me how so much from it just. does not get acknowledged. The most acknowledgement we got was in MINECRAFT (gobblegut and megahammer are in it), a single level in MK8 DLC (dragon driftway). Plus some of the cups in the MK8DX DLC. Lubba has only been cameo'd in like. Rosalina's move in a sports game. But outside of those minor things,,,none of its come back. The whittles were in ONE GAME. AND ITS MARIO PARTY 9. I always put Lubba in my dream rosters for Mario Kart Whatever the next one is, cause I think it would be fun to give SMG2 some rep! Or like. Maybe just reference the music more? They always reference Good Egg and Gusty Garden, but what about Sky Station and Fluffy Bluff/Cloudy Court. This game was like. INTEGRAL to my childhood, I played it BEFORE the original SMG, and while I love SMG, SMG2 makes me like. So. Happy. I have actually cried hearing fluffy bluff's music start up while replaying it in my adulthood. It has never been matched. I pray for a remake or remaster some day. I would love to play it again on the go,,,instead of replaying SMG over and over again on my switch. Cause ya that one is fun, but its the only game in 3d All Stars I like. Care about. 64 pisses me off, sunshine is. ok i love its vibe but i cannot play it. Galaxy is the only one i like playing and that i'm good at,,,but id have loved to see smg2,,, This video captured why I enjoy the game so much. I know it was meant to just be more of Galaxy, but they had so many ideas it became an entire game. And I think that's like. Beautiful. They had so much creativity that they made an entirely new game,,, TLDR: SMG2 my beloved.
Mario Galaxy 2 One of BEST games on the wii I played as a kid and as a young adult again!!! I never played the original 1 until this year and not finished yet! The only thing that make me sad is that it's like an end to the game.
100%'ing Mario Galaxy 1 was an amazing day when I was a kid, it was super fun and I felt like I accomplished something super big. 100%'ing Galaxy 2 was like an endurance challenge. It felt like I was capable because I already did Galaxy 1, the last final challenge was a month long grind to the end and it was my biggest triumph. If I had to describe them both. Galaxy 1 was inspiring, and Galaxy 2 was putting your inspiration to actuality.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the first game (and one of the only games) where I patiently waited for its release. I loved SMG, waited for SMG2, and loved SMG2. I find that the people comparing the two are often being a bit unfair. SMG was a great game that revolutionized a lot of things about not just the Mario series, but the video game industry as a whole, most notably with its use of an orchestra for music. In contrast, SMG2 didn't innovate as much, because it was born from ideas that couldn't make it into the first game. And that's absolutely fine ! It was never meant to revolutionize the series, it was meant to prolong the experience of SMG1 for a new game. The music is made of completely new bangers that became just as iconic by the metric of TH-camr soundtracks, the levels are also completely new, nothing was rehashed. And even though it didn't innovate as much, it added things like beat blocks and flipping panels that remain in use today. It's basically "SMG : The Lost Levels". I think it's a bit sad that the same "Revolutionary game, sequel that provides the same experience and not as much innovation" happened a decade later with Zelda BotW and TotK, except for some reason TotK was well-received, even though the experience of BotW didn't really lend itself to a sequel that well and that sequel ended up being a simple repeat.

I *do* prefer the wonder, mystery, and music behind the Comet Observatory, but Starship Mario is pretty brilliant too, especially with how many secrets and interactive elements there are hidden about! My favorite thing to do was use the Cloud Flower to spin-ground pound into a luma and launch myself into orbit around the entire faceship. Galaxy 2 is such a well-designed and refined experience. I would go back to replay certain levels numerous times, like Hightail Falls, the slide levels, or that beach with the hovering lily pads just for the thrill of it. Amazing game. Great video.
I 100% completed mario galaxy like 2 times and galaxy 2 almost 6 times. I have nostalgia for both but, galaxy 2 just has a better soundtrack and level design. Like the perfect run is just amazing end for a game. I really love the S world in galaxy 2. Idk galaxy 2 is just the best game of all time I think. Its such a perfect game

Just like you I only played mario galaxy 2 when I was a kid, I then discovered Mario Galaxy with 3D allstars, in my opinion both are equally extraordinary, mario galaxy has an incredible ambience and mood, the comet observatory, rosalina and the story are brilliant, however the game design, musics and gameplay is way better in mario galaxy 2, that's why I think both are equally as beautiful
I hope they do bring this game back, maybe nso wii app on switch 2 there so many games. I wanna relive my childhood. the wii was my first ever video game console!!
Bravo! Very well said! Totally with u here, Super Mario Galaxy 2 deserves a lot more recognition. It was a true expansion to Super Mario Galaxy that amplified the formula to perfection. Hopefully Nintendo realizes the missed opportunity of not including it in 3D all-stars and has a remastered version of it on the Switch 2 because this truly was a special game that played a significant role in my childhood and many others.
I hope Galaxy 2 comes to the Switch. That's the one remastered of the game I've been waiting for to happened. Love Galaxy 1. Don't get me wrong. But I like Galaxy 2 a bit more.
I think we should have Super Mario 3D All-Stars 2 with 64DS, Galaxy 2, and 3D Land. They're the only major Mario platformers that are somehow still unplayable on the Switch, and they would have an awesome second wind if they were brought over.
Gosh, I miss Galaxy 2. Of course I have the game and play it every so often, but that first childhood playthrough, that adventure that brought me into video games, it makes me feel obligated to love that game forever
I don't consider Galaxy 2 to be a sequel. Rather, i consider it to be a remake of the first game since the story and plot is basically the same, and I have learned that much of what we saw in Galaxy 2 is just unused content from the first game. That being said, Galaxy 2 has a beautiful soundtrack, creative boss fights and engaging gameplay, which is why it is so good
I would buy it in a second if it was released for the Switch. I'm currently replaying it and while it's amazing I still think the Wii controls is the biggest weakness, so being able to play it with traditional controls would be a dream.

Yeah. People were too harsh on Galaxy 2 because it ain't like Galaxy 1; which is dumb. While there are some things I prefer the first game over the second one like the atmosphere & scope, I prefer the second game over the first game with everything else. An even better level designs, the amount variety of power-ups, Yoshi and other QOL improvements like the comets are handled & challenge. Both are amazing games in there own right. But I do like Galaxy 2 a bit more.
To be honest my least favorite part about galaxy was the gravity mechanic. Galaxy2 used the mechanic a lot less and focused more on classic level design more which I found more enjoyable

as much as i hate that mario galaxy 2 is forgotten, i really cant agree with it being better than galaxy 1, while it did improve upon a couple gameplay elements and have more content overall, it lacked so many things that made the first game so special, the atmosphere, the feeling of sadness and lonliness, the world map, the level select, and most importantly the story.
After watching this video I've come to the conclusion that whichever of the 2 you played first will probably be your favourite while at the end of the day both are truly great games. For example I can't go a full year without playing the first Mario Galaxy but after finishing galaxy 2 once or twice I haven't really thought about replaying it any time soon even though it definitely was a fun experience.
Nintendo never considered Super Mario Galaxy 2 as much as a success as the first, as it sold less than the first game, and even less than New Super Mario Bros. Wii. And personally, I'm fine with SMG2 absent in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, as Super Mario Galaxy is already exhausting. I mean, you have to complete the game twice to get 101%.
I play Galaxy 1 first, but I still prefer by a lot Galaxy 2, for me it's the greatest mainline Mario game of all time. I don't understand why Nintendo do this, why want the players to forget this masterpiece ? It's so sad... I hope 2025 will be the year of the return of Galaxy 2, maybe for the 40th anniversary of Mario ?
It's sad how easily dissmised this game is simply because the story isn't the same as galaxy 1. Galaxy 2 is meant to be an adventure through the cosmos, helping people out on their way. And while we do that, many people are joining us. That's why we get a new friend or 2 every new level we beat. And the different worlds reflect the part of our journey. World 1 is closer to home, but still out there, world 3 is truly in another, beautiful universe, and 6 is a firey red of intense feelings as Bowser's *Universal Absorber* machine gets closer and stronger. I guarantee you if Galaxy 2 came first people would be saying the things I am now because it's what came first, and then bash Galaxy 1 simply because it's different. It's not fair man. 😔

Maybe for the hub, but the linearity is exactly the same, only difference is that the world levels arent connected through a line. Need a certain amount of stars to unlock a level.
Obviously everything in the video and my own comment is completely subjective, and my own opinion does not hold anymore weight over yours. With that in mind, I am going to respectfully disagree with you. The more linear nature of both the hub world and the levels is a downgrade. Rather than exploring a world, I am simply completing a collection of disconnected levels and challenges. I know, like you mentioned, that this brings it more in line with the 2D Marios, but that doesn't mean that it is a good thing. Bursts of fun platforming and challenges are good, but when you totally lose out on the freedom of exploration and cohesive world design, then I think it is missing the point of what a 3D platformer has to offer. This is also the reason why I don't enjoy 3D Land and World as much as I enjoy the other 3D Marios. We are just playing a level in a game rather than exploring an exciting world, however tightly designed that level may be. Galaxy 1 is definitely a phenomenal game for the incredibly innovative ideas that it brings to the series. It may have started to lean away from some of the exploration that makes 3D platforming great, but it makes up for it with game changing mechanics, beautiful music, and a wonderfully new experience. Galaxy 2, while introducing new power ups, does not introduce any game changing new mechanics or a wholly unique experience. It truly does feel like Mario Galaxy 1 DLC to me. Except worse, because it has completely forsaken exploration in favor of strictly platforming and challenges. However, I do understand that preference for exploration is exactly that: a preference. It is why I truly prefer to play both Sunshine and Odyssey over either Galaxy game. But while I prefer both of those games, I still recognize the good that both Galaxy games bring to the table especially Galaxy 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a good game. I just don't think it brings as much to the table as 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1, or Odyssey. Very well produced video! Editing and script was tight and well written. Hope that my disagreement is well received and not taken as disrespect! I will be replaying through Galaxy 2 in the next year or 2 for the first time since it came out when I was a kid. We will see if my opinion moves at all.

I was bored, and decided to do some of the harder levels (purple coins on rainbow road, getting the comet medals in the fluzzard levels, etc), and it has always been so INSANE and sad to me how so much from it just. does not get acknowledged.
The most acknowledgement we got was in MINECRAFT (gobblegut and megahammer are in it), a single level in MK8 DLC (dragon driftway). Plus some of the cups in the MK8DX DLC. Lubba has only been cameo'd in like. Rosalina's move in a sports game. But outside of those minor things,,,none of its come back. The whittles were in ONE GAME. AND ITS MARIO PARTY 9. I always put Lubba in my dream rosters for Mario Kart Whatever the next one is, cause I think it would be fun to give SMG2 some rep! Or like. Maybe just reference the music more? They always reference Good Egg and Gusty Garden, but what about Sky Station and Fluffy Bluff/Cloudy Court. This game was like. INTEGRAL to my childhood, I played it BEFORE the original SMG, and while I love SMG, SMG2 makes me like. So. Happy. I have actually cried hearing fluffy bluff's music start up while replaying it in my adulthood. It has never been matched. I pray for a remake or remaster some day. I would love to play it again on the go,,,instead of replaying SMG over and over again on my switch. Cause ya that one is fun, but its the only game in 3d All Stars I like. Care about. 64 pisses me off, sunshine is. ok i love its vibe but i cannot play it. Galaxy is the only one i like playing and that i'm good at,,,but id have loved to see smg2,,,

100%'ing Mario Galaxy 1 was an amazing day when I was a kid, it was super fun and I felt like I accomplished something super big.
100%'ing Galaxy 2 was like an endurance challenge. It felt like I was capable because I already did Galaxy 1, the last final challenge was a month long grind to the end and it was my biggest triumph.
If I had to describe them both. Galaxy 1 was inspiring, and Galaxy 2 was putting your inspiration to actuality.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the first game (and one of the only games) where I patiently waited for its release. I loved SMG, waited for SMG2, and loved SMG2.
I find that the people comparing the two are often being a bit unfair. SMG was a great game that revolutionized a lot of things about not just the Mario series, but the video game industry as a whole, most notably with its use of an orchestra for music.
In contrast, SMG2 didn't innovate as much, because it was born from ideas that couldn't make it into the first game. And that's absolutely fine ! It was never meant to revolutionize the series, it was meant to prolong the experience of SMG1 for a new game. The music is made of completely new bangers that became just as iconic by the metric of TH-camr soundtracks, the levels are also completely new, nothing was rehashed. And even though it didn't innovate as much, it added things like beat blocks and flipping panels that remain in use today. It's basically "SMG : The Lost Levels".
I think it's a bit sad that the same "Revolutionary game, sequel that provides the same experience and not as much innovation" happened a decade later with Zelda BotW and TotK, except for some reason TotK was well-received, even though the experience of BotW didn't really lend itself to a sequel that well and that sequel ended up being a simple repeat.

I *do* prefer the wonder, mystery, and music behind the Comet Observatory, but Starship Mario is pretty brilliant too, especially with how many secrets and interactive elements there are hidden about! My favorite thing to do was use the Cloud Flower to spin-ground pound into a luma and launch myself into orbit around the entire faceship.
Galaxy 2 is such a well-designed and refined experience. I would go back to replay certain levels numerous times, like Hightail Falls, the slide levels, or that beach with the hovering lily pads just for the thrill of it. Amazing game. Great video.

Just like you I only played mario galaxy 2 when I was a kid, I then discovered Mario Galaxy with 3D allstars, in my opinion both are equally extraordinary, mario galaxy has an incredible ambience and mood, the comet observatory, rosalina and the story are brilliant, however the game design, musics and gameplay is way better in mario galaxy 2, that's why I think both are equally as beautiful

Bravo! Very well said! Totally with u here, Super Mario Galaxy 2 deserves a lot more recognition. It was a true expansion to Super Mario Galaxy that amplified the formula to perfection. Hopefully Nintendo realizes the missed opportunity of not including it in 3D all-stars and has a remastered version of it on the Switch 2 because this truly was a special game that played a significant role in my childhood and many others.
I hope Galaxy 2 comes to the Switch. That's the one remastered of the game I've been waiting for to happened. Love Galaxy 1. Don't get me wrong. But I like Galaxy 2 a bit more.

I think we should have Super Mario 3D All-Stars 2 with 64DS, Galaxy 2, and 3D Land. They're the only major Mario platformers that are somehow still unplayable on the Switch, and they would have an awesome second wind if they were brought over.

I don't consider Galaxy 2 to be a sequel. Rather, i consider it to be a remake of the first game since the story and plot is basically the same, and I have learned that much of what we saw in Galaxy 2 is just unused content from the first game. That being said, Galaxy 2 has a beautiful soundtrack, creative boss fights and engaging gameplay, which is why it is so good

Yeah. People were too harsh on Galaxy 2 because it ain't like Galaxy 1; which is dumb. While there are some things I prefer the first game over the second one like the atmosphere & scope, I prefer the second game over the first game with everything else. An even better level designs, the amount variety of power-ups, Yoshi and other QOL improvements like the comets are handled & challenge. Both are amazing games in there own right. But I do like Galaxy 2 a bit more.

To be honest my least favorite part about galaxy was the gravity mechanic. Galaxy2 used the mechanic a lot less and focused more on classic level design more which I found more enjoyable

as much as i hate that mario galaxy 2 is forgotten, i really cant agree with it being better than galaxy 1, while it did improve upon a couple gameplay elements and have more content overall, it lacked so many things that made the first game so special, the atmosphere, the feeling of sadness and lonliness, the world map, the level select, and most importantly the story.

After watching this video I've come to the conclusion that whichever of the 2 you played first will probably be your favourite while at the end of the day both are truly great games. For example I can't go a full year without playing the first Mario Galaxy but after finishing galaxy 2 once or twice I haven't really thought about replaying it any time soon even though it definitely was a fun experience.
Nintendo never considered Super Mario Galaxy 2 as much as a success as the first, as it sold less than the first game, and even less than New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
And personally, I'm fine with SMG2 absent in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, as Super Mario Galaxy is already exhausting. I mean, you have to complete the game twice to get 101%.

I ended galaxy 2 with 112 stars. In world S, the motion control one with the purple coins was very unfun. But I had a blast with the other levels
It's sad how easily dissmised this game is simply because the story isn't the same as galaxy 1. Galaxy 2 is meant to be an adventure through the cosmos, helping people out on their way. And while we do that, many people are joining us. That's why we get a new friend or 2 every new level we beat. And the different worlds reflect the part of our journey. World 1 is closer to home, but still out there, world 3 is truly in another, beautiful universe, and 6 is a firey red of intense feelings as Bowser's *Universal Absorber* machine gets closer and stronger. I guarantee you if Galaxy 2 came first people would be saying the things I am now because it's what came first, and then bash Galaxy 1 simply because it's different. It's not fair man. 😔

Maybe for the hub, but the linearity is exactly the same, only difference is that the world levels arent connected through a line. Need a certain amount of stars to unlock a level.
Obviously everything in the video and my own comment is completely subjective, and my own opinion does not hold anymore weight over yours. With that in mind, I am going to respectfully disagree with you.
The more linear nature of both the hub world and the levels is a downgrade. Rather than exploring a world, I am simply completing a collection of disconnected levels and challenges. I know, like you mentioned, that this brings it more in line with the 2D Marios, but that doesn't mean that it is a good thing. Bursts of fun platforming and challenges are good, but when you totally lose out on the freedom of exploration and cohesive world design, then I think it is missing the point of what a 3D platformer has to offer. This is also the reason why I don't enjoy 3D Land and World as much as I enjoy the other 3D Marios. We are just playing a level in a game rather than exploring an exciting world, however tightly designed that level may be.
Galaxy 1 is definitely a phenomenal game for the incredibly innovative ideas that it brings to the series. It may have started to lean away from some of the exploration that makes 3D platforming great, but it makes up for it with game changing mechanics, beautiful music, and a wonderfully new experience. Galaxy 2, while introducing new power ups, does not introduce any game changing new mechanics or a wholly unique experience. It truly does feel like Mario Galaxy 1 DLC to me. Except worse, because it has completely forsaken exploration in favor of strictly platforming and challenges. However, I do understand that preference for exploration is exactly that: a preference. It is why I truly prefer to play both Sunshine and Odyssey over either Galaxy game. But while I prefer both of those games, I still recognize the good that both Galaxy games bring to the table especially Galaxy 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a good game. I just don't think it brings as much to the table as 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1, or Odyssey.
