Thanks for the video. I’ve just done up a 6x4 trailer myself, new bearings, led lights and wiring and prepped and spray painted it myself from watching videos like yours. As a rank Aussie amateur I’m amazed at how much better the videos are from Australia at explaining each step like yours. Well done mate.

Word of honor - the tongue on that thing looks to be as long as the body of the trailer itself.

If I was to restore a trailer, I would make it look not just brand new but 'period-correct'.
For example, a 50-year old one fitted with NOS/Repro parts and traditional (cross) ply tyres! ;-)

    Good Video.
    Great tips on repairs etc.
Did a similar job myself a few years ago - nearly needs it again - old Box trailers never die!
I reckon you should have left the axle the other way up though. Either that, or leave it that way up, but mount it under the spring.
That wheel looks far too high in the guard, when the trailer gets loaded up it will rub.
Also, it has an upwards rake connecting to the towbar on the car. If the towbar is at about 18" (close to knee height) and the trailer has that rake, the axle is too low.

That's a long draw bar on that trailer I have a 6x4 and the draw bars 1/2 the length of that, it's a bugger to reverse

Thanks Phil! Learned a lot - got an old rust bucket trailer myself.

Great video, happy to subscribe. I like it mostly when you narrate while you are working on the trailer. Most of the remodelers spend too much time tell us what they are going to do, instead of doing it. In a few years when you have thousands of subscribers, I'll say, "I subscribed when he has less than 100 subscribers". Best of luck...

Fixed mums old unroadworthy trailer. Mainly new tyres... mechanic rings up... these are like 50+ years old and are narrow and illegal width... end up needing new tyres, wheels and axle.
Fixed and serviced the lights. ker-ching. $500. Now my trailer. Bought a welder so going to fix all the broken welds, base plate (1/2 rusted out), new mudguards (since the wheels are too wide for them now) and a new LED light set. I'll also be stripping the paint and re-spraying as have an airless paint gun now. While at it will look at the tailgate mechanism and making a set of ramps.

Once you put a load in the trailer and the springs get worked in after a few more loads, you may wish you didn't lower it...

You’re not meant to weld across the frame with the suspension mounts only along the length of the mounts
It’ll create a stress point and will crack

Phil, this is great to see an old trailer reconditioned whist using some of the original parts cleaned up to save on costs. Do you offer trailer services etc for customers? I got an old 6x4 today, which im getting new tyres and rims for tomorrow and wanted someone to go over the axels and suspension and a once over etc as well prior to rwc. My first trailer so im learning as i go today watching youtube

Hey mate sorry I don’t, but happy to answer any questions you might have. Best way to learn is to get in there and have a go.

@@philsshed8207 No worries, thanks for getting back to me. Got new sunraysia rims and tyres today, and I spent around 9 hours work on it today, and learnt a lot. Wire brushed and wheeled all the surface rust off and hit it with a matte black rust pro epoxy sealer, looks brand new. Just need to find a place to grind off my old school coupler and weld on a new rwc one

Those rear lights i could barely see a light emitted from the LED's, i think they are suitable to marker side lights not for tail lights🤔🤔🤔🤔

    • @philsshed8207
      @philsshed8207  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It’s just the angle of the camera.. they are plenty bright enough when standing behind. And they are sold as tail lights. That’s why you have the stop and turn signals all in one. Appreciate the comment tho 👍🏻
