    FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
    I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.

      I mean, Phenom is more advanced than 95% of commercial aircraft in service from virtually all points of view. I'm more impressed some of the ancient airliners from 50s and 60s are still out there doing that with stone age tech.

    The best part of the video is when Steve told Osama he was faster than Vref. I'm sure Osama knew his speed and was satisfied with it(probably flying a gust factor) but when you have a safety pilot his/her job is to point out anomalies and that's what happened. Perfect CRM and another excellent video.

    • @jwdk7662
      @jwdk7662 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thought they normally have at least 10 knots higher than Vref on an approach?

    • @captuelli
      @captuelli 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      JW K Vref gives you a 30% margin to stall and this is the minimum speed for the final approach. It’s recommended to further add a wind increment of 0.5x the steady wind plus the full gust on top. This should be between +5 and +20 knots for my operation but check your airplane or operator documentation!

    • @FlyingSi
      @FlyingSi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      VRef is not corrected for wind. His speed should be VApp, which is bugged here. That uses 1/2 steady headwind and full gust. It’s not perfect CRM at all - it’s a distraction at low level.

    • @captuelli
      @captuelli 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Flying Si Aviation Videos & Reviews you’re right. Vref is determined by 1.3VSO and your minimum control airspeed. Vapp and Vref confusion I see often... people call out speed as soon as you’re slightly below Vapp, as long as your trend is not to decrease below Vref I would argue that call out is not necessary but it’s also not bad CRM to do it... better say something sooner than end up in a stall short of the runway in SFO with a 777

    • @FlyingSi
      @FlyingSi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tim Uellendahl I see what you mean, but I’d say that pointing out an error which doesn’t exist on a type you’re unqualified on to a pilot who might not be vastly experienced on type (from comments here) doesn’t enhance safety. It could have resulted in confusion and the speed being reduced...

    Couldn't help but notice Osama vigorously shaking his legs through-out this video and the out-bound leg of the flights. Some may see that as being nervous due to being new to the plane but in reality, he's probably overcome with joy and excitement at the opportunity to live the life that he is in that airplane and that experience in general. Being envious would be an understatement of great magnitude on my part.

      foomeister2347 Mach Number is the ratio between true airspeed and the speed of sound and speed of sound is a direct function of temperature. The higher you go, the colder it gets and the speed of sound gets Lower and vice versa. This is why you climb at a Mach Number above FL290 to avoid having the airflow over your wing exceed the speed of sound and cause Mach tuck.

    One thing that I’d like to point out to improve is call outs and phraseology. You are not ready for take off, you are ready for departure. The word Take off is only to be used in conjunction with a take off clearance. Also for instrument approaches: LOC and GS alive, captured (maybe it was edited out), a 1000ft call out, approaching minimums and this ones important: at Minimums either continue/Landing or go around.

    One of the things that I am most impressed with is Osama’s perfect radio work and phraseology. Probably half of the corporate and airline pilots out there are embarrassing to share an airplane with because of their terrible radio work

    Great to see such professional pilots as Osama at work, especially when its not their profession! ;) Two suggestions though from the airliner world - I'd let the safety pilot handle the radios, relieves the PF of a lot of work, and I don't think Steve would have any trouble handling it, even in an unfamiliar airspace. Second, I'd leave that weather radar on permanently, unless you're really in 50SM+ clear conditions - especially on the leg down it looked like you were IMC most of the way, and you never know what you might be running into. NEXRAD is nice, but with its delay and coverage gaps should only supplement your decision making. Thanks for the great flight!

      @osamaarafat 6 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      I discussed the radios with Steve and we decided that it is best for him not to do it on this flight. A lot of things were new like CYYZ airspace, Bahamas, high altitudes etc. I also wanted him to spend more time learning the environment rather than focusing on the radios. Next time he'll be doing the radios.

      I liked the video a lot. Would add a suggestion to brief the emergency stuff and takeoff before engine start, instead of while taxiing out. Lowers the work load in a busy environment and allows better concentration especially with wingtip clearance on a tight airport. I can’t believe this captain came this far in that short time. Amazing job handling that all by himself complete with instruction on the video. I’m super impressed.....

    scary how low the indicated airspeed gets as you go higher but in reality your blasting along. even the auto pilot has to be careful handling the aircraft in the thin air up there. Awesome trip by all accounts

    Loved the videos with Osama! Absolutely great. HOWEVER, please stop using so much music. It was extremely annoying during the start up phase. Remember, a lot of us are pilots or at least geeks. We want to hear the engines spool up and not some funky music. You don't need to entertain us! The footage and geeky stuff is entertainment enough!

    Marshaller may have not have been paying attention, but also keep in mind for future reference that at certain times during the day, the position of the sun or daylight can create a glare that makes it near impossible for ground crews to see what you’re doing or signaling from inside the flight deck. Just a pro tip from someone who used to work the line :)
