  • Does Eddie Hall have a genetic advantage? 2017 World's Strongest Man and deadlift world record holder Eddie Hall revealed that he has a genetic abnormality in the MSTN gene that results in a myostatin deficiency and has been called the "Hercules gene". This allows his body to build more muscle then the average person.

There’s another idea in strength-sports that says it’s not so much pure muscle mass, but also “how many muscle fibers you can recruit from your nervous system to exert the force” I don’t know what clinical/biological markers we have today to measure that, but it should be a testable hypothesis!

      I read a book called muscle and it said that blacks, Germans and Italians are genetically stronger, relatively speaking. I don't know what that was based off of, but certainly size is genetic and certain races are larger. There is also the very likely, if not proven, fact that different hominids existed on different continents and interbred with homosapiens. Hominids very very close to homo sapiens e.g. neanderthals which were primarily in Europe and homo habilis which inhabited the region which is now Bali. Neanderthals had larger brains than homo sapiens and almost certainly were stronger. There is absolute evidence of neanderthals burying their dead, making tools ect. Homo habilis is a relatively smaller hominid and the people of Bali are very short compared to say the dutch whom happen to be the tallest people in the world. I have a book I'm waiting to read called sapiens by Yuval Noah. I have heard this is a great and credible book, it may prove my current understandings to be wrong. I don't know yet but it is an interesting discussion.
      Edit: obviously Africa is a continent, blacks also have a very wide variance of genetic phenotypes so just saying blacks isn't very specific, but that is what the book said.

      Lol the reason why he almost dropped dead is because he has terrible genetics when it comes to strength. He is XX ACTN3 which means he has more slow twitch. The funny thing is that slow twitch is a weaker muscle than fast twitch so it's not common in powerlifting. In fact less than 1% of elite powerlifters have the XX (slow twitch) variant. So Eddie is an abnormality in that sense. But it does come at a cost. Since slow twitch muscle is blood filled and runs on oxygen, a man of his size requires a lot of oxygen and can become deprived of oxygen pretty quickly. The reason why he almost dropped dead after the 500kg deadlift is literally because he was not built to do that deadlift. Yet miraculously he somehow did it.

    I have some questions regarding this. First, is there a way to strengthen blood vessels to prevent such injuries as aneurysms and strokes, and second, what is more harmful to the blood vessels, a fast heart rate or high blood pressure?
    I guess I have two more questions. First, why does blood pressure rise when lifting, and lastly, is it a good idea to try to prevent the red faced, vein popping effect? I notice that when I try to calm myself when lifting in order to prevent surface veins from appearing, it definitely feels like my interior blood vessels are expanding in turn. Is there no way to lift heavy or grow muscle without damaging blood vessels?
    Two final questions. Is thick or thin cloud better in this regard, and is adding more clotting agents like vitamin k better or more thinning agents like Omega 3? Thanks!

    @dr Brian - I vaguely recall reading studies that said that wild type (heterozygous) myostatin genes are the most advantageous for strength, that 2 functioning genes limits the muscle (obviously) and that no working myostatin genes leads to huge but ultimately underutilized muscle, probably due to nerves not being able to send enough signal to fire the muscle fibers.
    So he's got, as far as I know, the biggest advantage there is, at least in that specific gene region. From my experience access isn't as big of an issue any more it's more the people being too uneducated due to a censorship on real, actionable advice on steroids and compounds. Great video but I think you're using Strongman, weightlifting, powerlifting, and bodybuilding interchangeably at times
    (which is incorrect). They're all strength sports but they have distinct nuances that make them different (i.e. weightlifting isn't powerlifting, powerlifting isn't bodybuilding, etc.)

      Yeah, "too much muscle" totally is a thing. I'm nowhere near Eddie Hall's size or strength, but as a tall heavily-built distance runner I do run into this. The short version is that serious muscle mass is really expensive to operate, and there are limits to how far the cardiovascular system will develop as you gain muscle.

    Can some people with certain body types (like ectomorphs) produce more myostatin that makes them a "hard gainer"?

    • @TrustNJesusChrist
      @TrustNJesusChrist 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe. Or maybe you have low testosterone. Testosterone has a great deal to do with fat gain and muscle loss/gain. Lift weights on a normal basis and eat healthy and you will boost your T naturally. Myostatin actually has far less to do with people gaining or losing muscle, its more testosterone related.

  • @ethanmaranto8063
