Thank for your knowledge you shared with us. I wrongly used those hunter Rotor Springlers for yard, which was unnecessary. When I bought my house, I hired lawn care professionals to install the system. They cheated me and bought for 50 sprinklers including Rotor Hunter Sprinklers. Also they didnot install piping well. They did everything fast and left. But when I saw that over 30 sprinlers remained, they wanted to take but I refused and kept in mu store. Now I am re-organizing the whole system, and I am learning experts like who presented in TH-cam. Also I google every question I have. I found that its important to plan ans make map about the lawn area. Thank you all those who shared their knowledge.

$13.99 at Lowe's. Don't need the big shovels. Just a small spade. Unscrew out and carefully screw in. Adjusting the arc (turn) was the tricky part. My irrigation company wanted $90.

I like using Hunter PGP’s because it’s a fair price and they last a long time. I actually enjoy my customers having a tiny service bill. Makes me feel like I’ve done quality work. They last 10-25 years easy. Not sponsored by hunter.. Over 20 years experience and I’m 36 years old.

I’ve started replacing my Hunters with Rainbird! That hex screw has given me nothing but problems. They fill with dirt & sand and you can’t get the hex tool in there. Rainbird has the flat head tool that is SO much easier!
You can blast the sand out simply by holding your hand in front of the nozzle while opening the top with a small flat head screw driver. Might sound weird.. but if you curve your hand the right way you can push water into the top of the head. Or use a pin to clear sand out. Been in the business over 20 years and I’m 36.

In this case no. The valve for that zone is under pressure for that zone, but in the off position from the controller there is no water flowing to the heads in that zone. You could also shut the water off at the sprinkler manifold which is typically after your water meter, but before your zone valves. I hope this helps. Good luck and thanks for watching.
There is no need to dig out the whole thing. You can just undo the big screw in the top, and pull the inner stuff out and replace from the new unit. Then you don't need to dig as deep, no risk of a leak in the pipe connection, you get the same height from the get go and so on. If you're changing to a completely different model this doesn't apply.
We’ve tried that on a few of our much older heads that we run across and on some the new parts don’t align well with the old bottom case. And even had a few leak. And while we agree with you a bd would prefer that method, it’s not always possible. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate the feedback.
You could just remove the head and cap or plug it. Likely 3/4” or 1/2” service line. Determine line size and get PVC cap or plug in correct size. You likely will need to dig down a bit to reach the service line. There may be other considerations depending on your system. How many heads per zone, type of valve, etc. All doable. Sounds like it may be faulty. Does it have the nozzle in place with the keeper screw in place? I have gotten them before brand new that leak unfortunately. Craftsmanship and quality is not what it was.

If you pour a cup of water around the sprinkler head, then remove the sprinkler, the water will keep the soil from falling in.
Agree. Thank you!

I missed the part I was looking for on adjusting the rotation.

If the program to that sprinkler being changed is off, does the main water to the system need to be turned off?
In this case no. The valve for that zone is under pressure for that zone, but in the off position from the controller there is no water flowing to the heads in that zone. You could also shut the water off at the sprinkler manifold which is typically after your water meter, but before your zone valves. I hope this helps. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Is it possible just to replace the nozzle?
You bet. Just back out the small screw, pull out the nozzle and replace. Adjust the set screw to the desired arch.
There is no need to dig out the whole thing. You can just undo the big screw in the top, and pull the inner stuff out and replace from the new unit. Then you don't need to dig as deep, no risk of a leak in the pipe connection, you get the same height from the get go and so on. If you're changing to a completely different model this doesn't apply.

can i just turn off the control at the valve outside
Yes, that works also.
I want to shutdown hunter pgp sprinkler head. How to cap it off?

More complicated than a brain surgery to install.
Not really once you do one. 😎
