MORE Pokémon with Confusing Types

- After my first Pokémon with confusing types video understandably wasn’t as popular as some of my other videos, I decided I wanted to try and make up for some of the choices made in the video with another video on Pokémon confusing type, this time with a lot more thought and research going into each choice. Enjoy!

I say the Goomy line should actually be Dragon/Poison.
After all, snails and slugs aren't actually bugs, and the word goo and slime seem to sound like some kind of toxic waste, or poison.
I agree
@@tidepodpadthai2633 You're mostly right but it's Pokedex entry says it's very affectionate and hugs it's trainer so Dragon-Water would make more sense.(more sense than Palkia's water type)
Or they could just be pure dragon like they are. They may be based on medieval humor in transcripts and documents in which illustrations depicted knights fighting snails. Goomy and Sliggoo's dragon types are most likely references to this. It's a weak connection, but it works especially since none of the other types fit this line
@@larimari87 The reason Palkia is Water Type is actually because he and the trio he's based on, are based on the three forms of matter.
Dialga being Dragon/Steel to be based on Solids
Giratina being Dragon/Ghost to be based on Gas
And Palkia as Dragon/Water as they are based on Liquid.
@@sixtales7681
I agree. They could've made it look like a Water type at least. It's design isn't even close to a Water type.
Dark type's theme is "fighting dirty" - moves like tricking, stealing and cheating. I'd say a skunk's spray probably qualifies.
Voodoo isn't dirty?
@@ruchick6155 galar slowking or?? But voodoo is magic, so psychic makes sense, and shellders toxins
@@awesomeperson5150 Voodoo is dark magi, evil magic rather.
Trubish
Well that does explain why its weak to fighting type.
Inkay should have been a Psychic/Dark type so its typing flipped when it evolved.
oh my god yes XD
I love it.
Interesting

Psychic/Dark and Dark/Psychic are *THE EXACT SAME THING!!!!!!!*
Why is Azurill Normal type?
*Can't swim due to lack of forearms*

Kingdra and Gyrados are water types without any arms yet they are still water types. *LOGIC*
Every fish ever: am I a joke to you?
*cannot swim because no arms*
Me: BRUH. FISH.
Fish have fins... But LMAO
@vixen 101 Fins help fish swim, like arms so yeah... But its a joke
Volbeat and Illumise look like they could possibly be Electric types as well if they had a second typing. As fireflies can also be known as lightning bugs, and Volbeat looks like it truly could be part electric.
Yeah, I originally thought they were electric apparently not...
Fun fact.... I remember seeing in one of the pokemon hacks that the creator gave Illumise an evolution that was Bug/Electric type.
Wish that this was a real thing.....
One should be fire the other should be electric
I totally forgot volbeat’s and illumise’s typing and I guessed big and electric
They should get a regional variant in which they're electric

Magnemite that is floating:It's super effective

Gengar standing on the ground: Levitate negates it

because gengar can float.
but apparently alolan gengar's dont know how
Doduo is a flying type even though it has no wings...
And Magmemite is steel and electric, no flying = earthquake affects them.
Giordan Diodato Gengar is supposed to be shadow
Guipiemonte the gengar in the alolan lost it power to not be hurt by ground
In English to Japanese dragonfly doesn't have the Japanese word for dragon in it and that's why

Why is Empoleon a steel type? Wouldn't Water Ice make more sense since it's a Penguin?
The only explanation I've seen from people is the trident it has for a mask (or whatever you call it). Another possible explanation is to not give it a huge advantage over Torterra, who would take 4x damage from a Ice-type moves. (Yes, I know many Water-Pokémon can learn Ice Beam for example, but they don't get a STAB from it unless they have an Ice-typing)
I think empoleon SHOULD get a better type, maybe dragon, maybe ice, idk, but it still gives both OTHER starters of sinnoh advantages over empoleon since it has the steel type....
The fire type can beat the water type.
What the f**k.
I say the type should be water/dragon, but then again that's insanely overpowered....
give a 4x for a pokemon that he alredy has advantage is a crime, but giving advantage to all the other starters over him would be totally fine, like torterra already have 4x in infernape '-'
They still should of just made it ice. Sceptile has huge advantage over Swampert since he is water/ground, but that didn't make them change the typing.
Torterra is a grass ground so it has a huge advantage over empoleon. Empoleons flippers are sorta like swords, and they can cut trees easily in half with them
Spiritomb is dark so that Cynthia could be more OP
NinjaPumpkin 01
I don't understand what you are trying to say
gen 4 pokemon champion , if you didn't slightly know what you were getting into. You were Screwed. and outside of using Foresight 1st and then a Fighting type move. It has no type weaknesses. And I "think" it had a Situris Burry
Spiritomb... my one weakness...
Lie its because it is made of evil spirits
Like she needed to be better.
Wait, what?
Am I the only one who has always thought that Volbeat and Illumise were Bug/Electric? Volbeat's got that glowing butt! Plus, their names would make sense! Volbeat, as in Volt? And Illumise as in Illuminate?
Yeah I thought that too.
Yea I remember thinking that too
yeah they would be lightning bugs not fire flies
jep dacht ik ook (ik typ dit in het nederlands want je naam is nl)
wow your such a dumbass
Slugs and Snails are NOT insects they're more closely related to Mollusks so really the more appropriate typing would be Water/Dragon
crabs and arachnids aren't insects either, but that didn't stop dwebble, skorupi, or any of the spider pokemon. it's really more "buglike" than "bug"
+Lulu Grace Arachnids are arthropods, crustaceans are also arthropods. Arthropods are bugs. Here you go.
@@lupine4953 Even without knowing nothing about biology, a could say a spider has more resemblance to an ant that a snail does.
Really why people think snails are arthropods??? It doesn't make sense.
@@Dexuz
No one said they were arthropods. At least not here.
The way I see it, water-type would make more sense: slugs are highly dependent on water to live, have squishy bodies like a water balloon, and Slugoo even evolves IN THE RAIN.
@@antitheist3206
Yeah exactly, I think Water/Dragon would be a great type for Goodra.
I'm just saying that some people do call snails and slugs "bugs" and that's the reason of why Shuckle is bug type.
It just doesn't make sense to me.
Was I the only one who thought that the Goodra line is Dragon/Poison?
No
+Jebbuh That works too. Maybe they should add a 3rd typing, so it can be Dragon/Bug/Poison
i thought it was water and dragon type so i caught a sligoo to fill in the water slot in my team but it turned out it wasnt even a water type. It made sense because i jad bubble and needed rain to evolve into goodra...
Definitely not.
+Jebbuh
Would have made more sense than Dragon/Bug.
I think Inkay and Malamar are Dark/Psychic because those two types are opposites of each other, which is their gimmick. Opposites.
Best comment ever.
I mean, I would argue Psychic and Dark aren't opposites so much as part of a trifecta with fighting, but ok.
not to mention Malamar is clearly based on Cthulhu.
LOL
Except shrunk down to about average person height instead the size of the fucking sea.
I always wondered why Absol was dark type. Did a simple misconception somehow turn it 'evil'?
In the pokeverse, Absol's appearance is supposed to predict that someone will die soon.
Because it's the disaster pokemon
Kina Li Close. Its appearance is a prediction that a natural disaster will happen.
ANY disaster, actually. It predicted the Kyogre-Groudon clash in the manga...
Orchid Blossom Dark is not really evil. There are more mischievous Dark types than outright evil. I assume Absol is Dark because he uses unconventional and dangerous means to warn people about dangers.
The Dark-Type is really interesting considering different translations.
In the german localisation, it was translated to "Unlicht", using the prefix "un" which is used to negate the original meaning of a word, and "Licht", the german word for light.
So instead of using one of the german words for Dark or Darkness, the type was translated to "Not-Light" which in itself does make sense. However, according to the german dictionary, "Unlicht" is a word that does not exist, making it the only type in the german localisation which does not have a real word for a name.
It’s the same in dutch
Volbeat and Illumise should be Fire/Flying. Why? They're fireflies.
In all serious, they should be Bug/Electric with Magnet Rise.
*seriousness
Thats what I was thinking
Exactly what I was thinking
Illumise can easyly be a Fairy Type…
Volbeat and Illumise don't possess any heat or electricity, nor do real fireflies. They just produce light using their back organs and certain chemicals. Your letting your unmindful bias towards the connection between light with electricity and heat cultivate a very false opinion.
IMO, Goodra would make a good poison type. Or even a water type. Why? Well, for water, don't they need a lot of it to survive? Also sea slug. And poison because they're made of slime(which is often associated with toxicity) and are purple and green. They just look like poison types to me.
And Sliggoo needs rain to evolve.
I think that pure dragon works. Bug, poison, and water don't really work and the dragon typing is based on humor. In medieval times, some documents had small illustrations in the margins. Oftentimes they showed knights Fighting dragons, but some showed knights Fighting snails for humor. It is also modern humor. "This slug thing is a dragon type, but charizard isn't." To some that may be stupid, but it has some comedic value
@@joshtatko4806 About that, I would praise Gamefreak if they got the idea for Goomy's desing to be the slime monster trope since slimes, generally speaking, tend to be the weakest or one of the weakest enemies in RPGs, so having the weakest monster turn into the most powerful monster, a dragon, is honestly perfect.
@@joshtatko4806 I also heard its based on Lou Carcolh, a serpent/mollusc hybrid from French folklore and a trumpet shell snail yokai called Shussebora which has a life expectancy of 3000 years and will acend and turn into a dragon.
I always wanted them to be water-dragon. That’s head canon for me actually
I think Goodra should be Poison/Dragon
I think he should be dragon/water he already gets access to rain dance and many other water type moves via level up and tm and move tutor
Queen Oktavia
I think she should be poison because she can get Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, and Poison Tail. Also, she looks more like a poison type
SHE? Sexist!
Chocolate Pudding Fruit
I view Goodra as female. Also, that's beside the point
I make my own points, biatch!
"Vol"beat and "Illumi"se. I'd say they are supposed to be Bug-Electric types, but we got Galvantula from Gen 5 as well, so meh.

No, you're not.
Wait he aint Ghost type?
probably because he's ghosty-looking.
I thought it was ghost as well.
He’d be OP if he was dark/ghost
No your not
Snails were absolutely giant in French literature fighting them like dragons in English literature, and seeming kalos was based on France, it makes perfect sense for them to be dragon type
Fun Fact: when I first started getting into Pokemon, I was collecting Pokemon cards. Only thing is, I didn't know the types, so I had to make educated guesses. And I thought the dragon types were ground types because I only had 5 dragon type cards, and Sliggoo was one of them.
actually i think inkay's typing is okay because squids produce ink which is dark and squid's use hypnosis by changing colour to confuse their prey. but no hard feeling i still loved the video and love being subscribed to your channel.
Another reasoning for sableye being dark type is that it does hoard and loves shiny gems, and greed is a deadly sin. Tie is just my thoughts though.
Plus its based on gremlins, which are typically evil henchmen
Wait.. you know that Snails are not Bugs, right?!
Erind Kukaj doesn't matter, it's still true for slugs
Matheus Castello Don’t you mean not insects, which are the 6 legged bugs?
Well, spiders aren't insects, but pokemon based on spiders are bug types, so... *pokémon logic*
Bugs are different from insects
Slugs are neither bug nor insect.

I remember when I was like 8 and played Pokemon and found a Banette and thought it was cool in fact it used to be my favorite Pokemon :P then someone told me the story of how it is trying to take revenge on a kid that disowned it and I cried for months afraid to go by a window because I thought it would come out and kill me or something.. Am I the only one who was very scared of Pokemon back stories?
yes
same...
I am too. 😱
I was scared of hypno .
I still am.
i got scared of that pokemon with 1 hp (forgot his name), cuz if you look in its hole on its back, you'll die or something and i used him in battle and i saw its hole
What about Porygon? He and his evolutions are made entirely out of computer code, so you would expect them to be Electric Type, but NOOOOOOOO! Instead they're NORMAL TYPE, and not ELECTRIC TYPE. THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL!!!!!!!!
Wither of Earth I think Porygon and Porygon2 should be Electric/Normal, and Porygon-Z be Psychic/Electric
Wither of Earth idk why i thought porygon was electrick/ghost type
I'd expect Porygon to be a Steel type at least.
SSDARKPIT how could it be a steel type
Aren't most, if not all computers made out of metal?
Here is a good reason why flabeybey line isn't grass , cuz they are supposed to be good in so defence , and being 4x weak to poison is really gonna suck for them , and in a way , floette and flabeybey are HOLDING a flower , and don't have I stuck to their body , like florges does . Florges could be a grass fairy , but the 4x weakness kinda saves it from grass typing.
Edit:If you think I'm wrong , watch the flabeybey episode in XY series , where an old man , who is taking care of a flabeybey , looses it , and it's flower gets ripped apart , yes , it's true.
I still liked the first video. Everyone misses sometimes, that doesn’t mean you quit swinging. Keep up the good work bro
5:36
Wrong, you're the second person I'd find making this mistake. Snails and slugs are mollusks, not bugs, they also don't have exoskeletons because most mollusks like slugs are invertebrates. Mollusk based Pokemon like Cloyster, Octillery, Inkay and Gastrodon are all based on the Gastropod family, including Goomy and its evolutionary line.
If Goodra and its pre-evolved forms are based on sea slugs, then it would make more sense if they were WATER and Dragon types.
Thanks. Goodra is my favorite pokemon so I was trying get a good argument.
Pena Bennoit Well in this case, Goodra and its pre-evolved forms are based on the dragon sea slugs, so Water fits them better.
+ThunderBeam707 Then explain Skorupi.
Spiders aren't bugs either
+Kuppa King What is Skorupi's type? Exactly.
Um, Spiritomb is Dark Type because...
Quote from Pokemon Pearl, Y, and Alpha Sapphire: "It was bound to a fissure in an Odd Keystone as punishment for *misdeeds 500 years ago* ."
Quote from Pokemon Platinum, Black, White, Black 2, and White 2: "Its *constant mischief and misdeeds* resulted in it being bound to an Odd Keystone by a mysterious spell."
Quote from Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver: "It was formed by uniting 108 spirits. It has been bound to the Odd Keystone to *keep it from doing any mischief* ."
Quote from Bulbapedia: "Spiritomb is based on a Jibakurei, a spirit bound to a single place. It is also based on a Buddhist tradition performed on New Year's Eve in Japan. A bell is rung 108 times to chase away the *108 temptations* in order to achieve Nirvana. The wisps of spirits surrounding its face also resemble a set of prayer beads, a possible reference to Japa. It may also be based on a crystal ball.
Spiritomb may also be based on Water Margin, one of China's Four Great Classical Novels, which is also very well known in Japan. In the first chapter of the novel, a foolish army marshal orders the removal of a stone monument which had been guarded by monks for generations. Doing so releases the spirits of *108 demons* sealed therein. These 108 souls, having *atoned for their sins* , become the 108 Stars of Destiny. They are reincarnated centuries later as *108 outlaws* , the heroes of the novel."
... yeah, it basically screams Dark Type.
Amen
did you just get that from Bulbapedia?🤨🤔

Banette is my favorite pokemon, and rlly needs some kind of buff, I think giving it dark type would be perfect.
Damn, the amount of time and research gone into this video was outrageous
When I first encountered a wild Goomy I thought it was a water type, then was confused when electric and grass moves weren't being super-effective. Then I caught it and saw its Pokedex entry, thinking "Wait, this thing is a DRAGON? Wtf?"

Pokémon Amie makes no sense when Flabébé is involved...

Bannette isnt dark type bc that would have made it OP as until Gen 6 ghost/dark didnt have a weakness
Unless the moves Foresight and Odor Sleuth are used, or if the Pokémon has Scrappy
but still most pokemon cant really do a thing about it if you got this type combo.
Well, despite that, its Defensive stats (both physical and special) are not much to brag about
Sableye was gen 2 and Spiritomb was gen 4 and they were fine before fairy came along.
sableye was gen 3 and while that is true, they arent exactly as strong as Bannette
Slug. Bug.
...
I don't get it: Why would a slug make sense to be a bug-type?
I would think that being gooey, being a slug, would make water or poison make more sense, water especially if a sea slug, but I don't understand bug for slug.
Can someone explain the logic?
Are you saying slugs aren't bugs?
Um... Yes?
Wait nvm lol I looked it up and they're not
people assume all "gross" things are bugs
because people are dumbfucks :D
Cheerybelle your talking a lot of sense slugs aren't bugs really
If I had to guess, Banette’s lack of dark typing is more based of the balance of dark ghost types rather than actually fittingness, as pre-fairy type it was pretty much indisputably the best type combo, and still arguably is one

+Andrew Addams yeah cause they both know Electric moves via TM and Move Tutor.
Listen, when I first saw Goomy, I thought it was poison or fairy type. It being a dragon exploded my mind 😂
I feel like malagmar and dragalgae could kind of be explained by what you said about venomoth beedrill and dustox.
And the only reason I can see inkay as not water is so malagmar doesn't evolve with water type moves that it normally could learn due to its other typings.
I'd say Volbeat and Illumise should've been Bug/Fairy. Would've been a nice touch.

Azurill is two ords of the same size, like a hydrogen molecule. Hydrogen is a gas, therefore Azurill is not a water type. It turns into a water type when it evolves because Marill is based partially on a water molecule (one large oxygen atom and two small hydrogen atoms).

Cause if youre hitten in real life by a skunk u (might) think that *IT* was evil
Inkay and Malamar might be based on horrors like Cthulhu, an ancient monster with physic powers and an octopus-like appearance. According to lore, Cthulu is located in an underwater city in the south pacific.
I allways found groudon wierd seeing as he is pure ground instead of fire ground
Exactly
Miningbros And Sises
I think it's because Kyogre would fuck him up If he was fire type and ground so they tried to even out the duo
Miningbros And Sises although he is ground type because he represents land, not fire
DHAFA DHAFA ehm... its groudon not groundon
André Van der Linden I think he was trying to make a point.
I feel like Ilumise and Volbeat could also be Electric Type after an alternate name for Fireflies: Lightning bugs. Plus, *Vol*beat basically has Volt in its name.
6:46 it's water 3 because water 3 egg group is made up of pokemon that resemble invertebrates and scorpions as well as all other arachnids are invertebrates. It is still confusing though, they probably should've named the egg group something else
Due to this, this made me thinking of an idea: If Pokemon had 3 types.
For the sea dragon pokemons
Its because in the Japanese mythology
They thought that sea dragons were baby dragons
"Dinosaurs aren't dragons..."
Actually, that depends on language. In Chinese, the term for "dinosaur" is 恐龙 (kǒnglóng), which literally means "fear dragon." Japanese shares the Chinese name with a different simplified character for "dragon" (恐竜; kyōryū), so there's our explanation for why dinosaurs get categorized as dragons.
For the Yanmega case, you need to know that pokemon originated in Japan. Yes, in english dragon flies have the word "dragon" in it, but in Japanese, it does not.
Not only that, but Yanmega is a griffinfly, not a dragonfly, so it wouldn't even work in English.
Your other video was good. Most of them you create are very entertaining. Well said about your video, but it certainly isn't a mistake. It shows how your channel grows.
personally i think illumise looks like it should be fairy type
also i don’t really consider snails and slugs “bugs”, although im not sure exactly how close they are evolutionarily

How?
I never thought it looked like a fairy. How?
some of these drive me mad. I totaly agree that last one. when ever i look at the flabebe line i want to scream give it the 2nd type of grass.
Not all nymphs are associated with forests and plants. Thetis was supposedly a water nymph.
Though I personally think Stunfisk is the most confusing since it's Ground/Electric. I mean, it's based on a flounder. Why isn't it a Water/Ground instead?
+Giordan Diodato but, flabebe, floette and the other one are shown with *PLANTS*
TheNebulaGamer And?
Again, not all Nymphs are associated with plants.
+Giordan Diodato flabebe is not grass even though it is shown with a plant, ot grass
and again to you flabebe means FLOWER BABY and flowers are plants- hence why in conjunction with it holding a flower people thing flabebe should have GRASS as its second typing. maybe they could make a different nymph which has other typing but even just looking at flabebe anyone who is new to pokemon would think it were part grass type if they didnt know its typing.
I use to think Volbeat was an electric type because of the “volt” in its name.
I skipped the Goodra part because the pictures of snails and slugs you kept showing were scaring me....I have a deep, irrational fear of them. TT^TT

That's the image for my channel :o
well would u look at that
It's not :p
The Blue Dragon Sea Slug... Yes it is :P
TE Lumsden Exactly.
Cool
Using the anime as a state of it shows on anime is kinda wrong, remember, Pikachu defeated a Onix with thundershock on the anime.
Pikachu also beat a Rhydon by using Thunderbolt on its horn, which is some bs.
How is that inaccurate. Onix is just rock
Rock/Ground. Look it up
he used soak with the sprinklers
Raphael Merino onix became rock and water due to the sprinkler, kind of like some other attacks change targets type
When u accidently use Dragon Rage on Marill while using Charmeleon.
I don't know if anyone already commented this, but the reason the Goomy line has the Dragon typing is because of European pieces depicting knights fighting snails. Knights are now commonly depicted as fighting dragons so they fused the two together. It could have benefited from receiving the Bug type, however, but their current typing is justified.
You know, in many myths Leafy Sea Dragons were thought to be dragons.
I always tought Volbeat is bug/electric type
I mean VolBEAT get it?
Also it looks like it has electricity in his body
Stunky is a dark type because skunks are primarily nocturnal. Meaning that that they are more active at night and sleep in the day. So that’s probably where it’s ones from? Great video by the way
One Question... WHY The HECK is Dedenne A goddamn FAIRY type??
+Bantersaurus Rex Female so ( no hate ) you're saying a bunch of flying keys are cute??? what the...
probably to give a Pikachu clone the new type.
A better question would be: Why do Pikachu knock-offs exist?
+TremendousPuppy Because.......mascot?
LEGO Master it cuteness
10:20 oh GOD that transition
Why oh why... Are the LAKE TRIO not fairy types? Just like the Celebi argument, these three basically are called fairies. But no... Plain psychic types, because y'know! We REALLY needed more psychic legendaries. Or just vanilla psychics in general, can't get enough of 'em!
Vice versa, its more like ''we need more fairy types so we slam on the type lul'' and it was gen 4
Yeah, but they could've changed their typings. Just like they did with Gardvevoir and Granbull.
I dont see them as fairy types in the first place and that would be so confusing especially because they are legendaries the PU metagame and tiers would be all moved around theres no need
@@bigdaddywoowoo7680 As for Granbull (who is based on a dog fairy), I don't think, it's typing doesn't make sense. Look up dog fairies. They aren't, what you assume.
They weren't cause fairy was op when they were released
I respect people who leave their bad videos up, instead of like ign that just deletes any video that gets a decent amount of dislikes
3:18 you didn't remember that in your first battle against PokeMEN
Answer to all of this video because balancing
@@shrimp5444 lets see fire, electric, rock, ice
There are ways of balancing Pokémon other than type effectiveness. Stats, movesets, abilities, it all matters. Typing isn't everything, though it does play a large role.
It's like when people look at ice, grass and bug types and underestimate them because of their poor defensive typing. They'll often compensate in another area. It's just about finding that niche that it works well in, and being creative about it.
No Pokémon is 'useless'. Except a Magikarp with only Splash, or Kakuna/Metapod/etc with only Harden, or some other Pokémon that somehow can't deal damage. And even then, you could send them out in NPC battles just to waste your opponent's time while you heal up your other members. lol
And to be fair, you could probably give them a rocky helmet, and the opponent's HP could gradually be whittled down if they're a physical attacker.
@@exoltik3199 steelix:steel, ground
Also steelix:despite having ground typing, still weak to ground
I would have guessed Bug/Electric for Volbeat and Illumise because they are fireflys (aka lightning bugs)
well, adding on your rant on the Flabébé line, not all "green" Pokemon have to be grass, and the flower on Florges is actually the red bush on its neck, and the green is just apart of its body (of you noticed the continuous green in the Flabébé line). The green may also be a sign of camouflage.
AND AZURILL IS THE FLIPPIN WATER BUBBLE/BALL POKEMON LIKE WTH
