Rescuing a Loonboss From Mushroom to Mushroom 🍄 🍄 🍄

- Welcome to another miniature rescue! This week I take a relatively well priced Loonboss and give it a grimdark overhaul! This model came out, only a couple of years ago, for Warhammer Age of Sigmar, specifically the Gloomspite Gitz army. I have a deep love of the greenskins and have been wanting to paint more, I mean, let's be honest, I'd paint all things greenskins literally every day if I had a choice (don't I?). Anyways, this model is fantastic, and I wanted to do something with this new one that was a departure from what I've done in the past. I am really happy with the way he turned out and I'm sure he will fit into a Gloomspite collection nicely!

As a side note, this video was put on TH-cam in the 16:9 aspect ratio, I'm doing a little experimenting with different sizes right now and I want to see the good and bad things about each aspect ratio. I was under the impression that TH-cam supported 16:9, but they don't, so no end screen, but, it should look really nice on widescreen monitors and get you full screen on phones and tablets. Pretty neat.

Enjoying these rescue videos. The time saved is probably a wash as it takes time to scour ebay for used models as well as the cost of stripping equipment chemicals etc. but there if there is joy in rescuing a model that should be weighed in too. The content created also adds value as well.
Congrats on the baby. Loonboss turned out pretty good. Close to what you pitched, similar but more muted.
I smiled when I thought about how the miniature community can share and benefit from each other in and outside the hobby!

To add advice when buying minis on Ebay: take the time to compare the pictures of it with the pictures on GW's webshop. Sometimes people try to pull a sneak and do not write that the model is incomplete. I only noticed AFTER I bid on a Necron Triarch Stalker that it was missing it's weapons. Luckily for me, someone outbid me.

The mushrooms came out looking pretty cool, the flatter one has kind of a purplish tint in its shadows that looks great!

Fantastic! I just stumbled upon your channel and as a person who is just getting into the hobby of painting miniatures I appreciate the fact that you point out where you made mistakes and what you did to overcome them. More often then not I find that people get discouraged too easily and have a false impression that they are the only ones who make mistakes. It’s a valuable lesson to know that everyone makes mistakes and it’s how we overcome them that makes us a better builder/painter. Thanks for sharing!
I just want to say that I really appreciate that you went to google to look at images for inspiration. We all stand on each other's shoulders in advancing the art form and I think the 'research' phase needs to be acknowledged as a normal part of the process. I do this all to time to find things that have been done (or not done yet) and it's important to show to aspiring painters.

Buying part painted, may sound bad but if the base colours are right it really speeds up the process, plus part painted are often uber cheap!

Challenge for you, pick out 10-20 paint pots you can't do without. do a few episodes where you challenge yourself to keep to that selection.
Fantastic work. I love how you talk through your process, its fascinating to watch. I kind of love to see you working with an airbrush - I'll never understand how they can be so accurate (well, not unless I splurge and get one!)

If you ask me, the accidental chipping on the mushroom so how makes them feel more natural, also Congrats!
Nice result. I especially like the back armor on the goblin. Makes it look like a beetle. But I find it a bit of a shame you painted over your happy little chipping accident on the mushrooms. Where you were going with that looked a lot more interesting than the plain dark blue you ended up with.

That would have been a good option if you were looking for something to play immediately. You can get lucky sometimes on eBay and get actually nicely painted models for a good price. Not super often, but it definitely happens :)
Another great video! Nice to see the nitty gritty process of stripping/rebasing too. That paint came off really nicely in the sonic cleaner, what cleaning solution did you use?

Haha, but still, I prefer prebuilt cause I don't like building as much as painting, also damn you, you make me interested in minis I haven't even glanced at before.

I'm confused, why are we trying to save time when the whole point of this hobby is to fill in as much time as possible, to distract me from the empty void that lies yawning over my head.
So we can't paint more miniatures in that timeframe.

I prefer the bright yellow honestly. and the front mushroom looked better before the repaint. The back one needed the love but the front one looked great. The armor also is a bit TOO rusted. about 50% of the way there would have looked great and could have worked well with the bright yellow.
