Thanks for reviewing this amazing bow. The snake bow is such a joy to shoot. I wish it was available in 30#, but oh well. This bow can do everything. It has a narrow arrow pass, an ambidextrous design, a smooth draw...and it is affordable. It's just perfect for beginners.
I'm new at archery. I live in a small town from Chile, so I don't have any clubs or archery nearby. I bought this bow as my first, and is very nice so far! I'm left handed, so this bow being ambidextrous is a great plus. I can practice with a friend who is right handed with the same bow, until he gets his own. Thanks for the review!
I was just talking to my old mum about possibly getting her this bow to get her into archery, and I go onto TH-cam and this is recommended to me! Excellent! 😆
I purchased the kids version of that for my nephew for his birthday this past November and have been shooting with him about once a week. It is the perfect bow for a beginner.
The best all-round bow available. Like many archers, this was my first bow and I still use it sometimes, for training a new technique, switching hands or shooting in the rain. It does everything without complaint.
That sounds risky, did you do any research into the material? I mean, Rolan really advises a 30" max draw. But more power to you if you're aware of the risks hehe. Ngl it sounds interesting tho hehe. Does it also shoot faster through the crony? (I mean high poundage with reduced efficiency means you just gotta put more effort into getting the same result 😅)
That can work, by pulling the limbs forward while warm, but you risk breaking the bow once it has cooled and you draw it full. It will shorten the life of the bow before it becomes too weak to use well.
I too use these bows for introducing archery to beginners adults and youngsters alike. I have had them in daily use for many years and use them for all styles of archery. They are a brilliant piece of kit. I use one personally for form practice which they are great for.
Thanks, bought a snake last May or so on your advice and have beeen delighted with it......the only issue has been it doesn't look great when I'm not shoooting it. The reverse string for storage tip is wonderful, instead of looking sad on a shelf it can now look cool hanging out on the wall with the bike & guitars, cheers.
Looking forward to getting mine and learning the thumb release. Bought 4 of them So that the whole family could have their own ones. Really looking forward to seeing the kids trying them out.
After all your previous Snake bow accolades, I bought an 18lb and a 22lb to help rehabilitate my frozen shoulder and rebuild my muscles without risking being overbowed. Very happy.
This is the very first bow I've ever bought. I remember going to the archery shop and the shopkeepers were trying to sell me a fancier recurve. They struggled finding a bow for my arms (I'm 6'3), eventually I got fed up, grabbed this puppy off the rack and it was perfect for me. Best part too, it was 40 dollars cheaper than what they wanted me to buy. Very good bow, easily my favorite in the collection
Thanks to your review I am buying this bow to get into traditional archery after 12 years of shooting a compound bow. I was constantly debating with myself what bow and poundage to get as there are so many choices. I have chosen this bow sold through PSE Archery here in the States. It will be good for me and for my daughter as she has expressed an interest in archery as well. Thank you again for a great review.
i think the best beginner bow is anything lightweight with a long draw length, with a dual shelf, and affordable. some of those 40$ crab bows or plastic turkish bows are almost there but without shelves so the snake might just be it
definitely the best bow for any beginner ,The bow I learned on, and I still keep it around for a shoot now and again, and if anyone visits and is a little interested in Archery, I use this bow to to give a quick demo
Ok I’ve been subscribed to this wonderful channel for years and I go to find it this morning and guess what....it showed I wasn’t subscribed so I had to subscribe. What the heck is wrong with TH-cam that it just unsubscribes you from channels?!?!! Anyway I found it and I’m resubscribed to the best bow review channel on TH-cam! He’s so fluid working and shooting and explaining all in one move and such a soothing calming voice and demeanor!!!
I purchased three of these at the onset of covid lockdowns in 2020 for my kids, wife and myself (15#, 18# and 26#) to start learning archery. They have been a Godsend. We practise asiatic style, starting with Slavic release and then moving on to thumb release and khatra. I customised the 26# for myself to practise form and motion: I attached some wood to fill in the shelf so I can shoot off the hand. Would be good if they came with an attachment for this purpose instead of arrow rests and stickers - though my younger kids liked the sticker.
This bow is sold as a PSE Snake here in the US. It's available from a large sporting goods retailer called Academy for $65, and my local Academy has them in stock. Think I'll go pick one up today. Been having a lot of trouble learning thumb shooting with my 35# Tatar bow, so maybe the 25# Snake will help. The narrow arrow pass and ambidextrous design looks very useful for various styles. And being all synthetic it should be durable and humidity/weather proof.
I am sure that the sales of this sheet have been significantly increased by Mr. Hirmer. ;-) ArcRolan should be grateful. I also bought this bow a few years ago because I saw the video from Malta Achery. I am still grateful for this tip. Thank you Mr. Hirmer
This was my first bow too (after your recommendation) and it's still a bow I use often for experimenting with shooting techniques or for lending to a friend when he/she wants to try out traditional bow shooting with me - very well spent money :)
only minor issue you have to look for: sometimes there are still little edges on the string loops left from manufacturing that can damage your string in the long run, you might wanna fix those with sandpaper
I have a special place in my heart for my Snake bow, we worked through a lot of my neurosis together.😂😂Still shoot it often even though I have my Janissary now. Can not wait to see what your new project will be Armin. Whatever it is I know it will be great.
So, I grew up with a cheap wood bow hunting rabbits but haven't drawn since. I am more than proficient with shotguns and even slingshots. My wife had a taste of archery in HS and loved it. Question is how to start in archery, no shelf, thumb braced on right side middle eastern style. I'll go learn it first, surely making typical mistakes in equipment and technique, but know I could save a lot of time with real experience here. Thanks!
I got one for my daughter and it is a nice bit of an kit. I want to get her one of the Sarmat Bamboo lam bows tho. Their Aysa I think is for kids/beginners. Great review as always Armin. Thanks and peace! 😎
Hello Armin ! Always fond of your videos ! What spine do you use for this bow ? It seems to be 600 if I've heard well, but I'm not sure. Thank's for all !
So after this and other videos, I have made this purchase. I was going to be stubborn and get a higher power fiberglass/wood Mongolian type bow because it looked better, but I decided otherwise. I want to progress correctly and smoothly by starting with this bow and learning thumb release/Asiatic style.
Thank you for this video. I have seen this bow in your other videos and was wonder what brand it was and thought it would be a great bow for my young boys. Now I know👍
Buck Trail Metis can be bought for 80euro (Around 280PLN (75$) in Poland - ). Better choice. We use 24 (12X 22 and 12X 26) Snakes (price around 170PLN (45$) in Poland) for beginners, but only because we have them from our Archery Tag. I find it almost indestructible, but it is the only advantage over the Metis. Every single other aspect is worse in the Snake.
I was wondering how to get into archery. You review such beautiful and sometimes expensive bows. Will have to get one so I can learn proper form. Will have to search your videos for arrow grain, make, etc.
Hi Armin, i saw this video 2 yrs ago and have been shooting this bow since. Love it! But now I'm ready for a little bit heavier bow. What do you suggest? Love your videos!
First off let me say "Weird", I knew you made a review of this bow 3 years ago, but when I typed in "Armin Hirmer snake bow" in the search bar that video came up and this one was just under it; I said "weird this is from last month and I never saw it". Any who; I had some spare money this month and finally got around ordering from amazon a brass thumb ring, a dozen descent (non-walmart) arrows, and a snake bow ($64.99 US). There's some slight differences between my bow and your bow, that is until you get to the center. The arrow rests on my bow has "shelfs" with um an upward curve on the outer edge of the shelfs to presumably help keep the arrow on the arrow rests. And there is a sight "scale" with eleven lines (alternating from "long" to short") on the "belly" of the arrow pass. On the back of the upper limb it says "PSE SNAKE". If it doesn't rain Saturday I'll do a video of it and you can see what I'm talking about 🙂
Armin, thank you for recommending this bow! I got one 6 months ago, and have followed your lessons on the many ways to draw and release arrows. Am looking forward to the video lessons that you are working on featuring the "Snake bow". I added an Ali-bow tartar 35# "horse-bow" to my arsenal. The practice on the Snake bow with thumb release made the transition to the tartar bow very easy. I agree with you, that it would be nice if they would make the Snake bow in 35-40#. Thank you for the video library you have built on traditional archery as I have not been able to find anyone in my area who knows much about it. Please show some of your groups at 10, 20 and 30 meters, so I will have some way of knowing what to expect when my technique is consistent.
Mine arrived today. And Oh my fucking God is it fun to shoot! I love it! 😁 The joy of shooting light bows 😁 But I seemed to have bought the kids version. Still, so much fun. Coming from 40, 50 pounds this is just too easy. Absolutely the perfect beginner bow!
I've been a fan of these for years. Wanted something more traditional in style but with the modern materials and a heavier draw weight. Okcubaba Ottoman Turkish polymer bow is that for me at a good price. Hincal and Simsek if you want to spend more.
I bought the PSE version at a local store about a week ago to learn thumb draw. Fun bow but that hand shock can be intense depending on how I hold it. I'm going to try gluing some lead weight in the hollow of the handle and maybe wrap it in something. Unfortunately I've already lost it's value in arrows, 2 in the snow, one ricochet on the 3d range which I couldn't find, and one hit a rock and broke.
Is the PSE version made by Arc Rolan in France as well? Struggling to find any info on these cus it’s quite hard to find the Rolan version where I live, but I’ve heard PSE/SAS versions are “knockoffs.” Then I’ve also heard they’re all just the Arc Rolan with different branding/packaging.
PSE makes a snake bow that looks identical. Do you think i can expect the same quality? I want one to try different techniques an lend to friends. They're priced about $45 US.
I go back to the snake whenever I try new techniques. but I have to string it backwards right now. thanks for the tip Armin! Ich bin Gespannt auf the secrete project.
Armin, i bought two BlackBird Cobra bows for me and my son (18 and 22 lbs), then seller told me (was too buried on a webpage) that they also have Snake bows, slightly more expensive. Can you tell the difference between Blackbird Cobra and Rolan Snake ? Seller told that Cobra is kind of more thick and it is "kicking" a little bit more.
I am an experienced compound hunter but I want to try this instinct shooting like I did as a child with my bb gun. I bought a Nomad and some 31 inch carbon. Do I need more weight on the shaft? Theyre 500.
Is there another link you can share on where to buy this now that has a website? I really want to purchase one but I am having difficultly. My location is in the USA.
does the snake bow stack poundage? if you get the 60 or 50 inch in 26# lb draw... does it stack appreciably? I have to check my draw length on my compound, but i believe i'm in the 31 or 32 range...and most recurves i've tried stack after 26". I'm looking at trying one of these to screw around with instinctive shooting and a thumb release style
How far would you reckon a round safety arrow would fly on one of these? And would changing the string for a better string, such as a fast flight, be a improvement?
Yes i use mine all the time. I often thought about what Armin said about the draw weight and wouldnt it be nice to have one in 30 to 35 pounds. Surely they can do this.
I actually cut the thumb off a pair of deerskin work gloves and use that sometime. It's fairly tight but does work loose... the wrist strap would help...
Okay, this makes me wonder: If you recommend a onepiece bow like this to beginners, do you have any advice for people who live in the city without a car that would help them to get their bow through the city on a bicycle? The outskirts of the city where you can find places to shoot, and even most archery ranges, are a pain for me to reach by public transportation, and it would be much easier if I could just get there by bike, so it seems like takedown is the only option for me, unless you can recommend a non-obstructive mode of transportation for onepieces by bicycle? Thanks for any tips you can offer. =)
Does the arrow shelf makes some difference if ones switch later to a "heavier" traditional bow without a shelf? Won't a beginner get used to have the shelf?
I wonder whether I am too tall for this 60" bow. My arms measure 79.5" from hand to hand. My draw is 32" so more than the maximum 31". Is there an alternative bow?
What kind of arrows do You recommend for this bow? (I don't understand everything in this movie) I bought Buck Trail Frontier parameter 600 (what is that?)
It's difficult to find these in the US right now. How does this compare to the PSE and Southland Archery analogues? They look the same as the ArcRolan.
My PSE has a few minor differences. The limbs are flat black, not shiny. The date code is inside the hollow part of the handle and there's no marking for where it's made. The part Armin mentions breaking has a small step up in thickness. It has aiming marks on the riser which I painted. It only came with one arrow rest which like Armin I didn't use, and when I bought it at the store they were sitting on the rack pre-strung, they probably came pre-strung from the factory given the packaging. Other than that it looks the same.
I spent a bunch of time trying to find where to get them with 26#. I ended up ordering one from SAS on Amazon and it was an Arc Rolan one that came. I had also emailed Arc Rolan to ask them about which(SAS or PSE) was genuine copy. They said PSE was a knockoff and SAS places orders through them.
I have actually been looking forward to this one. Excellent 😁 A bow you can charm 😂 It's heavier than I expected. I would like to own one, for left hand practice, and to share with beginners. Looking forward to those teased videos 😊 But this bow is a perfect reason to go 10 points, instead of 5. As it is not in the same category of most other bows you review 😁
Hello Mr. Hirmer, some time ago you told me how to set up Arrows for this Bow. Do you have any recommendation for Arrows with Foam Arrow-Heads? Thank you very much as always!
@@dusantomic7787 the company said they will send one, but maybe they are afraid of copyright problems here in Europe. The bow is available in Australia
I have a question I brought one of these recently mainly because I’m left handed and it was the only one that I could find that had a left riser. But I’m still trying to figure out what side to shoot with. At first I was doing my left hand to the right riser but I don’t know if that’s right can someone help me. Also if my bow is 60 inches long what arrows should I use
If you are left handed, means you have the bow in the right hand and if you draw 3 fingers you will have the arrow in the right side. If you shoot thumb release you have the arrow in the left
I love this Bow so much but sadly I don't can shoot him anymore because of hurt in my thumb because of the handel ergonomics very very sad because this Bow was perfect too shoot just free as a child fun fun fun what I should do now????? 🤔😔Okay I find a way to shoot Bow again because it belong too my live since I was 5Years Old and I shoot until I Die I guess let the Arrows fly Boys and Girls😁😊🎯🎯🎯

The one he tests was at 30# @ 32" and 27# @ 30" so it's actually not too bad

I purchased the kids version of that for my nephew for his birthday this past November and have been shooting with him about once a week. It is the perfect bow for a beginner.
The best all-round bow available. Like many archers, this was my first bow and I still use it sometimes, for training a new technique, switching hands or shooting in the rain. It does everything without complaint.
What type of tradisional bow can shoot during rain? I'm still looking for it. Still new to archery😅
I used a heat gun to change the curve of the bow and got it to 35lb at 32” in draw.
nice 😂
That really worked?!
@Nathaniel Miller if your getting fumes then it's way too hot, all you need is to get it very warm till it bends easily
The diagonal handle repeats the logic of the Japanese bow, which is held low, so the wrist position is the same, and it's an anatomical advantage.

Thinking of getting one of these to train my kids a little. How do they do with plastic fletching arrows?
They said they cant, i guess the material has its limits
Where’d you get that leather thumb tab?
Would also love to know(:
I actually cut the thumb off a pair of deerskin work gloves and use that sometime. It's fairly tight but does work loose... the wrist strap would help...
Tom Teck, did a video a while ago
Pigmeys in Africa do love those bows.
I will get soon some bending fiberglass bows takedown. Lets see how the do
Does the arrow shelf makes some difference if ones switch later to a "heavier" traditional bow without a shelf? Won't a beginner get used to have the shelf?
Thank you
Hi Armin: Appreciate you! What arrow setup is ideal for a 31 to 32in draw? Gratitude
carbon 600 spine should be fine
Thanks for the info. Mine is already on the way :-)
I wonder whether I am too tall for this 60" bow. My arms measure 79.5" from hand to hand. My draw is 32" so more than the maximum 31". Is there an alternative bow?
AF has some cheap fiberglass bows which can do 34”
@@ArminHirmer Thanks! I found your video of the han bow.
Another great vid👍
What kind of arrows do You recommend for this bow? (I don't understand everything in this movie) I bought Buck Trail Frontier parameter 600 (what is that?)
Bearpaw 600 spine, something light weight
It's difficult to find these in the US right now.
How does this compare to the PSE and Southland Archery analogues? They look the same as the ArcRolan.
PSE sold them, same
My PSE has a few minor differences.
Hello! how many joules deoes this bow have circa with different arrows circa? 10 15 20 25 joules?= need to know this thanks!
No idea
Where can I get that red feather 400 grain arrow
Looks like a former PSE SNAKE. On hunger games it was painted Capitol silver for Katniss.
Yes PSE was made by ArcRolan
I have actually been looking forward to this one. Excellent 😁
A bow you can charm 😂
It's heavier than I expected. I would like to own one, for left hand practice, and to share with beginners. Looking forward to those teased videos 😊
But this bow is a perfect reason to go 10 points, instead of 5. As it is not in the same category of most other bows you review 😁
How do I know which arrows I should use? I have PSE snake 60in 25lbs draw, but I have no idea what arrows to get lol
We use 600 and 800 spine carbon
@@ArminHirmer oh wow. Thank you for the response so long after the video. Subscribed!
Hello Armin Where can I buy this bow?
Do the older ones that lost poundage also actually shoot the arrow much slower?
(Sounds weird maybe but lower poundage doesn't always mean slower 😋)
If you use the same weight arrows it will be slower
Ah ok, thanks 👍
Hello Mr. Hirmer, some time ago you told me how to set up Arrows for this Bow. Do you have any recommendation for Arrows with Foam Arrow-Heads? Thank you very much as always!
Hi we lately use the ones from arc rolan, where we have the snake bows from
@@ArminHirmer thank you!
Where can I buy one? Direct from their site?
From Malta Archery :)
What do you think, will they make this bow at 35#? Did you try to contact manufacturer?
No they won’t, but there is a company on I think Taiwan which is copying this bow and with 35#
@@ArminHirmer Can you tell me where I can buy that bow please? Did you try it?
@@dusantomic7787 the company said they will send one, but maybe they are afraid of copyright problems here in Europe. The bow is available in Australia
@@ArminHirmer too bad, I'm in Europe, so if it's possible to order just in Australia, I will buy regular Snake bow
@@dusantomic7787 I guess it’s not easy to get hands on one here…. So yeah 26# snake it is :)
@@ArminHirmer thanks for the advice I really appreciate it. Could you also tell me which arrows to use I have a 60inch bow that weighs 2 pounds
I really want to get this bow but wanted to know what arrows to get with it. Does anyone know exactly what hat armin uses?
Cheap carbon arrows 600 spine. 85grn tips and 5” shield feathers :)
@@ArminHirmer Thank you!

@@ArminHirmer thank you so much for replying
I like your leather thumb ring/glove. Where did you get it?
Tom Teck, I did a video
@@ArminHirmer Thank you!
With #26, and a 28” draw, would you recommend a carbon arrow of 600 spine?
We use 600spine, but stiff but works
Great vedio🔥 like always
Thanks
i amm pretty sure this is the bow that you mention to me few days ago, the french one ... 👍
how long are the arrows you use??
