Super cool video! One thing I would like to respectfully point out is modern helmets have really thick pads inside of them to help cushion your head against back face deformation and energy transfer when they get hit by high speed projectiles. Those pads are usually about 3/4 to 1 inch thick on all sides and the top of the helmet. The reason I bring this up is even though that second helmet test did punch into the helmet, the distance created between your head and the helmet by those pads would render that as more of a scratch than a serious head wound. What the helmet definitely won't save you from is the serious neck injury that arrow just gave you as your spine absorbes ALL of that arrow's energy since it got stuck in the kevlar. Not an AlphaBro here, just someone who loves both sharing random facts and watching your awesome videos! Keep up the great work!
Yeah, I was bummed out. I’m happy I have the flat though as it performs the same but just does not look as cool as a traditional though. However, I have the 175 pound I’ve been working towards so I’ll probably start bringing that out soon.

Haha I had fun with that character…rolling all the stuff I could think of into one guy. Yeah it’s an absolute beast..man I struggle to aim with it though
@@dashrendar5320 You shoot off the hand with both correct? Neither has an arrow shelf? Is it the trajectory that is making it difficult to aim, or is it that the asiatic cuts in a little more at the arrow pass? I'm honeatly curious, because I'm coming from the otherside. I started with asiatic bows and I'm about to buy my first english longbow. Speaking of, any recommendations for a good first english longbow?
Correct neither has an arrow shelf, it’s actually because it shoots in such a straight trajectory just a bit different in that way. “Fairbow” makes a good bow
Great testing and also I like the funny acting! As someone who mainly practices Asistic archery, there is nothing wrong with shooting these bows with 3 finger draw, just use what method you're most comfortable with. For a while, I actually shot my Asiatic recurve bow with 3 finger draw due to a thumb injury. It felt weird at first, but after some practice I can be just as accurate with 3 finger draw
Thank you so much, my friend, I had a ton of fun making this video, both the tests and just trying to be funny. Yeah, it does work work for sure but I definitely feel like I could benefit from learning to use a thumb ring and a thumb draw
@@dashrendar5320 You should definitely give thumb draw a try! It is a different archery experience. I know you're very strong, but I suggest using a lighter draw weight when switching to thumb draw. Because it can really hurt your thumb
Yeah, I would for sure scale it back. I know anything with archery takes a long time to build up the tendons and ligaments. But it would be a blast to get skilled in other styles.
I have a Hoyt Gamemaster 2 with a draw of 68lbs at 29.5 inches, Yes, I got it because of Hawkeye! My arrows are 33 inches long at 550 grains. Best I have had out of it was 221 fps. It’s true ancient weaponry was so powerful for so long. It’s hard to imagine that the guns in their infancy were able to take over. Also respect to you, my friend 🫡
Very interesting that the recurve at similar draw weight shoots the arrow much faster. I guess that explains why those archer cultures went with recurve design, not just due to horse archery reasons.
They are much more efficient 100% it is also a fair sight heavier. The recurve is 135 at 28” while the longbow is 130 at 32” so it has much more power as well
@@dashrendar5320 These different bow designs as fascinating. When I was in the Tokyo museum tour, they had samples of war bows (Yumi) that were 2.4m long, and quite thick with an extreme taper. Its asymmetrical as you would know, and the arrow is shot at the lower 1/3 of the bow, not halfway. The tour-guide said it was designed as such to propel the heavier war arrows at higher speed, because the string return speed is faster at the lower 1/3 due to the non-symmetrical nature. The interest part is they tested the draw weight of these surviving samples, and it range from 120 to 210 pounds!
I've seen it on a gun tube. If you see Alphabro3 or 4 duck behind sandbags arrows will go through where a bullet won't. Could be a cool test for you 🤓 luv you Dash😊🤘

this one was great! Also how to hurt and alpha bros feelings. Tell him it's all based on a mistake. The Term "Alpha" used to describe a leader came from David Mech a leading Wolf researcher. The theory was that Wolves were led by a single male. He then disproved his own Theory the next season showing that they were actually led by a breeding pair. He came back to correct it but it was too late and the term had already snow balled into common use. plus Alpha Bro needs a tactical Cross bow challenge
Thanks so much man. I think I am having an inordinate amount of fun. Creating characters now haha. That would be a funny scene to film the whole world shattering.
I love the Tiron. Misko Rovcanin is the best bow maker I have ever seen and when I have the strength I might order one in the 80lbs range. Current is 50. Solid hunting bow. Purple heart core, ash limbs, fresco tips.
11:31 Oh no he remembered his previous death... that means an AlphaBro was harmed but can regenerate and is unkillable! What have you created!?! This was soo good and funny, one of your best yet! 🤣 Is the Asiatic recurve bow a stable sub for future videos now?

Haha glad you got a laugh out of that man! And yeah especially the first few inches of the pull, it’s just an absolute beast to get back. Also stringing this thing is a two person job, my wife has to help me 😂
Lol! Sir Gains intro looks like you caught him mid sneaze! 😂🤣😂🤣 One downside of modern body armor vs. midieval armor is the lack of coverage. With modern armor, all that's really protected is part of your chest and back and about half your head. Yes, modern armor will stop an arrow pretty effectively, but you dont have nearly as much protection as a fully/half armored knight. So there's a pretty good chance you'll get a hit in an unarmored area, and it'd be no fun to have a war arrow sticking out of you.
Thanks so much man! Glad you enjoyed it. I would need to reach back out to administrative results to meet up and use his crossbow, but that would be fun.
Very nice, and not that much of a surprise in effectiveness. I'd be curious how a the crossbow bolt would fair in comparison. My suspicion is the crossbow with that shorter and often still very heavy projectile may do better than the warbow arrows in this case, at least as long as you don't need to fire more than once in any kind of hurry... Might perhaps keep your gun nut from being too dismissive of the nerds when his plate proves less effective. As an arrow has so much flex and probably break easier than the crossbow bolts - both taking energy away from the hit, and then as a crossbow can end up being more energetic than the bow as well...
Thank you so much. Yeah the soft armor was not a surprise but against the helmet I was actually pretty pleasantly pleased with how it did a crossbow would be interesting but it would need to be a really heavy like 1200 pound crossbow. I did a video with the guy who had one of Todd’s 600lb crossbows and the heavy war bows out performed it in armor penetration
@@dashrendar5320 Yeah, for all the insane draw numbers on a crossbow the actual effectiveness is comparable to a much lower long limb bow. Makes lots of sense when you consider the physics, short throw to add power so need heavier spring to be able to apply much energy in that short throw. Thus leading to needing heavier springs still to help overcome the springs own inertia, and a change to less efficient spring materials. But that doesn't mean it can't be done, stupidly heavy crossbows have existed, and with modern materials or just a little bit of methodology we have no historical proof for ones that are exceeding a bow a human can operate in every way is plausible. This sort of experiment is probably one for an aircannon thinking about it - able to test varied lengths and weight of bolt at varied speeds comparatively easily, even potential to crank up/down the power of that bullet you'd want to compare against to really validate the armour. Be interesting to compare the weight, materials and such of the arrows Joe was shooting in Tod's arrow vs armour compared to yours. As they had so many more exploding arrows on the target - but was that down to the arrow, power of the bow or the target?
How much better would broad-heads fare against the Kevlar armor and helmet? There were heads in all kinds and shapes throughout history. Two cut on contact sharp blades and a smooth transition to the arrow shaft should in theory be better against the "soft" armors than the relatively blunt bodkins. Also, the big Tod's Workshop question. Will bees wax, or another lubricant for the matter, increase the penetration?
Against the helmet, I don’t know. I can revisit that for sure. Broadhead will definitely work better against the soft armor, but I think they will probably bend or break against the helmet
Noice :) You gotta try the recurve again but using skinnier arrows + broadheads. Faster arrows and slicier arrow heads = maximum penetration 😎 against soft things atleast. I see you use the really chonky longbow arrows with the recurve and whilst they do have overall more energy behind them due to their mass, they just ain’t as good at piercing through things as slimmer arrows are.
Haha I know I know I know I am doing the recurve a disservice. As of now the only good traditional arrows I have are the longbow arrows and they are certainly clunky and large. I will get some soon now that will be using the recurve more I will try and make sure the arsenal reflects what is needed.
@@dashrendar5320 nice, that makes me happy to hear. I’ve always been more of a recurve/shortbow sort of guy, so I may have a little bias towards them, but I can still definitely see the appeal of longbows, the hand cannons of archery :) I look forward to your upcoming videos :)
By that same token, do you know someone who makes traditional arrows for heavy recurves? I make them for the long bows and I have a maker who makes the good ones but only for English longbows
@@dashrendar5320 since I’m in the uk and not in the us I don’t have any specific makers to recommend or atleast ones that would be helpful for you but there is a website I know that may be worth taking a look at. “Huntingdoor” I have bought from them before and they are legit and good. They have a wide array of arrows, traditional wood/bamboo ones with feather fletching and some modern ones, all of which are for recurve type bows. Now I will say they are based in china which may be an initial turnoff but I can vouch that they make good quality stuff, and remember china has just a deep archery history and culture as anywhere else in the world, so I guess they know their stuff. But yeah huntingdoor maybe be worth having a look at, but apart from that I don’t know

Yeah the bodkin tips themselves are about 600 grains on their own. So with the thick wood arrow shaft they are massive! Also glad you enjoyed the video thank you
@@dashrendar5320 Man, that’s some serious cross-sectional density for penetration when you drop that arrow in. And yeah great video man! I look forward to seeing more.
BTW you don't have to use thumb or slavic draws with short recurves like the Tiron. You're doing just fine with english draw. But it is fun to learn new styles and I definitely recommend Mongolian and Slavic styles for instinctive and rapid shooting.
It can’t really be fixed I think…once the integrity is compromised it’s not really something that can’t be done. But I have a 175 I have been working on for a long time to time to bring out bigger bows 😂
@@dashrendar5320 That's what I was afraid of. Viking funeral it is! 175? Geez dude, you'll be shooting the same bows as Joe Gibbs pretty soon. That's awesome.
Ive always wondered whether heavy bows could actually pack a bigger punch than low tier firearms like a 9mm pistol. Sure theyre slower but could they actually cause more damage?
The one that got stuck in the helmet... it may not kill the guy, but he's out of the fight for awhile until he gets a new helmet, or at least a few seconds until he gets it off of his head.
I've been looking into getting a traditional recurve style bow to replace the bows that I lost in the fire. I don't want a super heavy one, at my age 50 or 60 lb is probably plenty
That would actually perform even better as it would slice through and not punch through. I think the real thing I would need to do is try it against 3A+ which is supposed to combat against stabs and thrust
@@dashrendar5320 I'd be curious to find out if that is true. It's been a while, but in a previous career IIIa ballistic vests were NOT rated against cutting weapons, they were designed to bind a spinning projectile (e.g. bullets) and one of the reasons training in knife defense was emphasized.

The irony is that even though I sub to Shad, Tod Cutler, Metatron, & others ancient/medieval channels, I found you through your collab with Admin, lol.
Haha well I think that’s true of a lot of people I would think actually. I owe him a solid for giving me some exposure
Alphabro had me rolling. "It's always classified" Just a spread shot of shade at guntubers 🤣
Keep the videos coming, hoss. Seriously one of my favorige channels 🤘🏿🤙🏿🏹
Also, I love seeing the asiatic bow making an appearance. Would love to see more of it.
@@dashrendar5320 Gotcha, looking forward to the learning curve. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll keep you posted when I get it 🤙🏿🤘🏿🏹
Great testing and also I like the funny acting!
Been shooting for 2.5 years. I can hit a 10 inch circle at 50 yards, consistently. I am probably twice your age. I salute you sir, for shooting such ridiculous draw weights. I think I was in SGT ALPHABRO's platoon!
Hahaha he was every cliche I could think of. Also that’s great shooting my friend and no judgment for Hawkeye. My inspiration was initially Legolas 😂
@@dashrendar5320 Wow, Sempai noticed me! I shot for a couple of years in my teens but gave it up. 40 years later, I thought I would give it another crack. Just for context, our Range Master is ex Navy, over 80 years old and still shoots an 80lb long bow. He only downgraded from a 130lb long bow in the last year. What a legend! Thanks for the great content.
Of course my friend! Always try to make some time if I can, yeah the stress over the years with heavy bows adds up for sure so gonna keep doing it for as long as I can 😂 he sounds like a true Bad A 💪🏹
Absolutely love your content, and the fact that you know Joe Gibbs, that just made it an insta subscribe. But this content absolutely deserves that subscribe without anything else being considered. Now I'm going to nerd out))
Thank you so much, my friend. I truly appreciate that. He is definitely the only person that I think of what an ancient archer would be capable of, a true snapshot of history
Very cool. Thanks
Most welcome my friend
@dashrendar5320 got an idea for a new character for next video. The professor. Think Emit Brown from back to the future does archery science 🤔 😉😎
Now this is quality TH-cam content.
Thank you my friend
Alright this was good, this was good. Got a laugh right out the gate of my day. 😂
Awesome man! Happy to hear it
That was a super cool video. The skits were hilarious. 😂 👍👍
Thank you, my friend. I had a ton of fun making them.
I love watching bows and muzzle loaders vers contemporary armor of their time. Really makes me wonder how guns ever got very far lol. I am an actual vet with real war experience flying real shadow 200 air planes.
Ohh nice I asked about this thanks dash for the great content
You are most welcome, my friend. Glad you enjoyed it. It was a blast.
I love that SirGains is a loot goblin.
Hahaha loot is life!
12:53 SgtAlphaBro missed his chance for a "That's what she said" ding...
Dang it your right 😂
A sacrifice of arrows and comments to the algarithm gods!!!
Praise be…amen 😂
I've seen it on a gun tube. If you see Alphabro3 or 4 duck behind sandbags arrows will go through where a bullet won't. Could be a cool test for you 🤓 luv you Dash😊🤘
Oh that’s a great idea. I have heard they pass through sandbags and now I have a target in the form of Alpha Bro
This is quite possibly your best intro yet 😂 Interesting results, too, and you absolutely have to keep the arrowhead in the helmet!
Now, how about a new character for your lineup: Sir Bikesalot whose specialty is mounted archery from saddle of a race bike 😅
Thank you so much. I had an embarrassing amount of fun making it that would be quite a ridiculously funny character.
@@dashrendar5320 That's what it's all about! Life should be about having fun and you certainly seem to have found ways to make it work for you. Although maybe take it a little easier on Grond as it's looking a little beat up...
Yeah, I need to find a blacksmith near me to see if that can be repaired
@@dashrendar5320 I guess that's what you get for spec'ing too heavily into archery and not smithing... Just craft several dozen iron daggers and you'll be able to repair it yourself 😅
That alpha bro armor setup is so gross. I can't ID the belt, but I know that vest and knife. Good job.
Thanks man! I had a ton of fun trying to think of all the clichés I could imagine
this one was great!
10:19 Hunting AlphaBros 😂😂😂
Haha I had a good time making this video 😂
Missed a few vids recently. Any update/info tidbits on the slinging and movie? 🧐
I can talk about that and make a video about it in February. Until then, unfortunately, I can’t really communicate about it.
@@dashrendar5320 Totally coool, it's the transparency and rough date that is the cherry 🤌let us all book hype train tickets for feburary 2025.
I love the Tiron. Misko Rovcanin is the best bow maker I have ever seen and when I have the strength I might order one in the 80lbs range. Current is 50. Solid hunting bow. Purple heart core, ash limbs, fresco tips.
Yeah they are truly amazing bows. Just absolute monsters
11:31 Oh no he remembered his previous death... that means an AlphaBro was harmed but can regenerate and is unkillable! What have you created!?!
This was soo good and funny, one of your best yet! 🤣
Is the Asiatic recurve bow a stable sub for future videos now?
Thanks so much my friend! I had so much fun doing it, yeah it will be coming out more and more I think
Man I do not watch these for the jokes....but you calling in the alpha bro for a shot was legitimately hilarious lol.
Also, I've got a MR Tiron. Its about 120lbs @30". You're right, the performance is ridiculous, but you certainly pay for it the whole way. The thing is an absolute bear.
Haha glad you got a laugh out of that man! And yeah especially the first few inches of the pull, it’s just an absolute beast to get back. Also stringing this thing is a two person job, my wife has to help me 😂
Lol!
Sir Gains intro looks like you caught him mid sneaze!
😂🤣😂🤣
One downside of modern body armor vs. midieval armor is the lack of coverage.
I gave myself quite the chuckle with that. That is very true as far as exposed areas you just don’t have the same type of covering.
A new challenger approaches
Haha in super smash bros announcer voice
I would like to see the same test with a crossbow
Great video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks so much man! Glad you enjoyed it. I would need to reach back out to administrative results to meet up and use his crossbow, but that would be fun.
“Loot loot loot loot loot!” 😂😂
Haha loot is life
Very nice, and not that much of a surprise in effectiveness.
RIP Old Bow. 😭
Yeah that was actually a big bummer
How much better would broad-heads fare against the Kevlar armor and helmet? There were heads in all kinds and shapes throughout history. Two cut on contact sharp blades and a smooth transition to the arrow shaft should in theory be better against the "soft" armors than the relatively blunt bodkins.
Also, the big Tod's Workshop question. Will bees wax, or another lubricant for the matter, increase the penetration?
Against the helmet, I don’t know. I can revisit that for sure. Broadhead will definitely work better against the soft armor, but I think they will probably bend or break against the helmet
Noice :)
You gotta try the recurve again but using skinnier arrows + broadheads.
I’ve always been more of a recurve/shortbow sort of guy, so I may have a little bias towards them, but I can still definitely see the appeal of longbows, the hand cannons of archery :)
I look forward to your upcoming videos :)
“Huntingdoor”
I have bought from them before and they are legit and good. But yeah huntingdoor maybe be worth having a look at, but apart from that I don’t know
ah the chinesium rambo knife ties it all together
Haha I was quite proud of that addition
I love your channel dood! I'm so happy that I watched the ak Jesus that lead to unsubscribe that lead to admin that lead to you!
Ivlove bows I shoot a 70lbs long bow in my back yard several days a week and the other day my 3yr old ran out holding a mop and a stick than pulled the stick back like an arrow than threw the stick!!! It looks like I'll need to get him a bow a bit sooner than originally thpught
Thank you so much! Yeah my kiddos have all started training, youngest is 4. They get bored quick but it’s still a ton of fun
I am looking at getting into larger bows, any suggestions where toblook?

Shadows of the empire!
Someone get this man some high speed. Maybe ballistic high speed slow mo
Yes please!! 😂😂
Holy shit. Did you just say a 1500 grain arrow? By the way phenomenal video.
9:04 Badass!
💪🏹
BTW you don't have to use thumb or slavic draws with short recurves like the Tiron. You're doing just fine with english draw. But it is fun to learn new styles and I definitely recommend Mongolian and Slavic styles for instinctive and rapid shooting.
Yeah I really need to learn speed shooting one of these days
Heck yeah, I was hoping you'd do this video!
Sad news about the 165lber. Will you try to fix it, or give it a Viking funeral?
It can’t really be fixed I think…once the integrity is compromised it’s not really something that can’t be done. But I have a 175 I have been working on for a long time to time to bring out bigger bows 😂
@@dashrendar5320 That's what I was afraid of. Viking funeral it is!
175? Geez dude, you'll be shooting the same bows as Joe Gibbs pretty soon. That's awesome.
Man that’s the dream…
Wish we could un-invent modern weaponry. Bows are so much cooler.
Haha they really are much much cooler
Tips are important. Titanium tips will shear through most of the stuff we tested.
Yeah, I would need to special order or force those myself, which I don’t have the skill to do unfortunately
How do you have only have one camera?
Haha to be totally honest it’s just my phone 😂 the only thing I actually spend money on really is arrows and weapons. I even edit on my phone
Ive always wondered whether heavy bows could actually pack a bigger punch than low tier firearms like a 9mm pistol. Sure theyre slower but could they actually cause more damage?
Would be cool to see how modern stab vests hold up to proper swords and arrows.
Zu geil das Video. 😂😂😂
I love your Videos❤
Thank you so much, my friend. I am so glad you enjoyed them.
Is a 120 pound compound bow possible(guessing custom order),with all steel arrow and hardened (nail punch) head welded to the tip….that should do it
Heaviest I have ever found is 100 pounds but those are like 1100 bucks so maybe one day
The one that got stuck in the helmet... it may not kill the guy, but he's out of the fight for awhile until he gets a new helmet, or at least a few seconds until he gets it off of his head.
I've been looking into getting a traditional recurve style bow to replace the bows that I lost in the fire. I don't want a super heavy one, at my age 50 or 60 lb is probably plenty
Dash, armor is very sexy 'cause being dead isn't.

What arrow needle bodkins do you use
I get the ones from “Kult of Athena”
Try a broad head against the Kevlar soft armor.
