This is making me so nostalgic for my grandparents. I used to travel around in an RV with my grandparents as a young kid. Enjoy your grandparents while they are still alive kids!
100% wisdom
first the raw hokkaido cabbage and now mystery berries in a forest? bros really risking his life for the content, gotta respect that
I went for a run yesterday and explored Renfrew Ravine Park in Vancouver... The water level was low enough so that I could hop across the rocks along the creek. There were tons of salmonberries for me to eat and they were super ripe (much redder than usual).

Your grampa is such a cool dude 😎
Grandpa you idiot
Grandpa not Grampa :) pls apologise
11:43 Holy shi that might be the thickest Australian accent I’ve ever heard
what was he saying?!
@glcried "Well I married a girl from Tonasket, in this very town (?). And we lived in Australia for a year and then I wanted to come here and- you know, an adventure.
So I had a secure business over there (in Australia), so I wanted to leave the family business. So I come over here; (Oscar: "so you met her in Australia?") I met her in Canada. So I come over here and I bought this old building, it's an old gas station from my father-in-law. And I started this business, and this town has been good to me. Like it's- it's made me.. you know.. prosperous. Like people say you can't prosper in Tonasket because it's a very low socio-economic community. But, an actual fact, you can. Especially for an Aussie. Because Aussies are all investors you know? And.. and no one here is an investor and I bought like houses for $30,000 and they were giving you like, $100 dollars a week (not sure that's actually what he says), which doesn't match but it pays for itself plus gives you an income you know? So it's- it's really- so this was cash flow in (car drives by so can't hear anything), I've been here 27 years and now I'm leaving." (story ends)
@@zinteny He say it isn't much (for the $100 a week) and when the car goes past he says he's done quite well and enjoyed his time here. You got everything else right :) (I'm an aussie)
That's far from the thickest Aussie accent I've heard. Some people from certain outback towns have crazy strong accents stronger than that.
It doesn't sound very thick to me. Sounds like a more broad than general Australian but as an australian it sounded like he picked up some canadian features in his accent, which may explain why it might sound "thick". Like the way he says "yeah" at 12:00 is very much North American rather than Australian.
Good thing your grandpa was with you, I just finished saying not the Rockies when he piped up and said it was the Coast mountains.
1:15 you know the vlog is going to be good when we get to hear copyright free limerence ❤🔥
yeaaa
Those are some unbelievable landscapes! The temperate rainforest is gorgeous, I really need to revisit that part of the world. Thanks for sharing your awesome journey!
I believe the hanging signs are so the snow coming from the snow plows doesn’t stick
You get your skills honestly. Your grandfather is a smart man.
7:37 aria math background music is so lovely.

I used to live in Golden BC and seeing the mountains makes me miss it ever so😍
Great blog Oscar. I lived in Hope for about 6 months when I was a lot younger, and hated practically every second of it & moved away as soon as I could. But my mom loved it, and stayed there right till she died. I still remember one day waking up at her place, looking out the window & 3 black bears were just sitting out in the yard chilling. Yeah, the interior of B.C. (& Washington has some too) has a lot of wine growing. Too bad that you picked last month to come here, when it was raining 50% of the days. Its been sunny & 20+C every day in July so far, getting up to 30 in Vancouver on Monday (39 in Princeton). Bet your grandpa loved having the chance to point out all the things he knows. What type of bus driver was he? A city driver? Or more like regional/cross country? Lighthouse Park is a place a bunch of my followers always want me to go check out, since its a notable filming locations for 1 of the TV shows that filmed here, but since I dont drive I never get there. Now I can direct them to yours (although you didnt get the exact spot they want to see.....but at least they'll get some of the idea of it). Solid job.
The Canadian landscapes looks so beautifuel!
grandpa seems very wise and chill :D loved the vlog! :)
Yoo so cool to see you around where I live!! Hope you enjoyed your time in B.C. 😄
loved it!!
I live there too! BC gang

One other reason for hanging signs, snow plows, they can throw heavy snow at signs in the winter, potentially knocking them down.
Gotta love the educational vlog, did not know about the concrete guards and hanging signs :D
I loved watching you go through EXACTLY where I’ve been on the same roads and everything!
A bus driver hauling his grandson around in an RV is the very definition of a busman's holiday.
i usually never watch vlogs but this was such a chill vibe, never knew canada was that gorgeous. great vlog
loveee your vlogs, the conversations between oscar and grandpa are so cute ^^
Cool vlog! The road marker at 10:45 is actually for US Route 97, which is part of the US highway system, as opposed to a state highway.
The state highway signs in Washington feature a silhouette of George Washington's portrait!
Early in British Columbia's history they did not have a wine industry but between 1919 and 1933 the US attempted, disastrously, to ban alcoholic beverages and farmers in the Okanagan Valley found they could sell wine to certain Americans who bought in bulk. W.A.C. Bennett, one of the early entrepreneurs, ended up being the premier of the province.
Super nostalgic vlog. We used to go over there on holiday from the uk when we were kids in the 90s and do similar roads trips with family friends. Looks exactly the same as I remember it 30 years ago. Cheers for the upload Oscar
I suggest that there is a follow-up trip. The Canadian rain shadow extends well up past Oliver and Osoyoos.
Lytton, Merritt, Kamloops, Ashcroft, and Lilloet are all part of the Canadian Semi-Arid Desert, which include Sagebrush, Grassland, Clay cliffs, and Salt Marshes.
Utility work ahead I sure hope it does, nice one hahahah
reference to rainbolts
road work ahead!!!

Big shoutout to Your grandpa. What a man! Nice you being bonding, family is important. Impressive scenery, naawed at the squirrel that munched nuts, so nice. Great vlog, just a liiiiitle bit envy. You go man!
I used to live in Princeton and it was nice to see all the scenery I remembered, from the Hope Princeton hwy to the Okanagan. The stop after Princeton was Keremeos. Easy to recognize due to the fruit stands.
My home province! I drive the Crowsnest (from Hope to Princeton) a few times a year. Its beauty still amazes me.
From the Kootenay region so I've driven those roads on highway 3 many many times. Cool to see you visit.
this is really wholesome. i'm glad that you're able to experience memories like these with your grandparents, and it's cool that you can get some geoguessr knowledge alongside it too!
Hell yeah okanagan shrub steppe. Possibly my favourite part of my home province.
It was salmon berries you picked; thank you for the vlog. It brought back memories of travels we did as a family. My parents grew up in the Penticton are.
Really cool seeing you explore BC as a local. Definitely gotta come to the island next time. The hikes near port hardy and Tofino are incredible also Victoria is a must as well.
Holy! Just fell upon this video on my FYP and noticed what a coincidence, I just had a trip over at the Okanagan Lake. Me and my wife made a trip over to Penticton to visit family then later to Osoyoos, AT THE SAME campground! We even caught the same rain cloud that had passed by. Even went on a day trip to Omak. The Okanagan was so beautiful, can't wait to return again!
I've made that drive many times back when I used to go to the Shambhala EDM music festival many years ago... One time I got food poisoning after eating at an A&W restaurant in Osoyoos. We stayed at a hotel in Castlegar, but I couldn't sleep cuz I kept puking up everything, even water. In the middle of the night, we ended up driving 30 mins to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, BC where they put me on an IV drip. There's no hospital in Castlegar.
The lighthouse walk looked so fun and pretty
I grew up in Oliver, and I'm very familiar with the places you presented in this video. The split rock out of the Split Rock lake used to be high and dry, but the lake level has risen because of a dam so you can't play around on it anymore like you could when I was a kid! I am surprised you didn't show Spotted Lake while coming through the Richter Pass. I left there in 1977 to join the military, but it was great seeing the places that I grew up in. Thank you!
I love the music and the landscape. Come visit Bhutan!
- a message from the president of Bhutan
love seeing nerds go outside
Why did this comment make me laugh so hard? lol.
Highway 97 goes south and ends in Nothern California. It's one of the few highways that has the same number on the Canadian side and goes all the way to the Yukon Border, it's part of the Alcan Highway.
You eating random berries off trees is on a par with GeoWizard doing something life-changingly sketchy on a straight line mission.
They're salmonberries. They are quite common in the forests around greater Vancouver. They're not really the tastiest of berries... Not that they taste bad. Just a tad bland with only slight sweetness.
They kinda look like raspberries or blackberries. They must be related
Hanging signs are to get the post further away from the snow plows, and let them sway in the wind, like Grandpa said.
nothing like a vlog that is genuinely inspiring. Makes me want to go out and see the world myself. keep up the good work
Yes, the wild berries freaked me out. Glad you're alive! 🙏😂

theres an actual desert in south east alberta only about a 6 hour drive from there. its in a valley and grows natural cactus and is about a degree or 2 higher than the area not 15-20 minutes from there
Thanks for the blog! Grandpa was pretty cool and good footage of the scenery 😀
love the way you catch up with those bollards and roadlines, basically how geoguessr players enjoy the world lol
Born and raised in the Fraser river area! This brings back memories 😊
Did not think you were going to make a vlog here! Love it. Post more of these little roadtrips, very entertaining :D
Athabasca Sand Dunes National Park is the real desert trip. It's in northern Saskatchewan and feels like it was just stolen from the Sahara and dropped on the Canadian landscape out of nowhere, that's a trip!
It’s a trip because good luck getting there 😂
I know they’re float planes that can take you if you fork out a million dollars, I’m just saying it’s not exactly accessible
Amazing vlog! please do more they are so great to watch ❤❤
I hadn't read the channel name when this got recommended, and i thought it was a random video since i live around here, honestly surprised you came here!
This is so wild! I recently had to go to central Washington for a work trip and one of the places I had to go was Oroville. I had no clue what it was like before I went there, but the natural beauty of that area was pretty astounding. Glad you got to see it!
The vlog was so chill, watched it before going to bed a definitely relaxing to watch. Please make more
Great video. I used to live in Vancouver, but never had any reason (or time) to go into the Interior, so it was nice to see what it’s like out there! I’m glad you enjoyed your time here in Canada.
The Thompson Okanagan is the northernmost finger of the Sonoran desert which hosts scorpions, rattlesnakes , tarantulas and occaisionally black widow spiders
I grew up next to Point Atkinson (lighthouse park)my childhood home was and is 1 km away, your camera was pointing directly at Vancouver Island for a second, you could see the town of Crofton BC
I lived in Penticton for 10 years, there's no other place like the Okanagan valley in Canada, and it was a big surprise to me when I moved there for a job from Northern Ontario, totally different kind of place because it's almost a desert.
I live just south of Mt Baker. The North Cascades are one of the most beautiful places on earth. Enjoy it!
did not expect a vlog?? love your videos!!!
Used to live in Penticton, in 2021 it got to like 45c. Ended up moving out, but it's crazy how a place like the Okanagan exists in BC of all places
also, 604 and 250 aren't the only 2 area codes, there's also 778 which I believe is province-wide
Grandpa seems like a pretty knowledgeable dude
It never gets old watching youtubers tell vlog-viewers goodbye when they go to bed, and hello the next day.
Despite it being 1 second for us I mean :D Hope you had a nice trip man, the Canada/US border area has such a serene look to it. Like its old. Hopefully I can get overseas another time myself.
Just clicked on but yoooo I've been through hope so many times and gone camping around there countless times. One of my favourite little towns, super cool to see you there and in my home province! Best place in the world!
Hey! Good video, I really enjoy these! Like when your blue mountains videos! It's really cool to see you doing these! Have fun, take care and keep pumping them out!
The Canadian west is magnificent I have always wanted to visit it
Oroville haven't been in years and years.used to go to 5 dollar a carload drive in theater there ,when we camped in oasis campground. 1960s
Beautiful footage, amazing all around. bummer you had to surrender your produce 💔
Always love a zigzag vlog !
Excited for this!
Great video! So nice to see Osoyoos, the town where my Grandma lives
Grandpa would make a cracked geoguessr player
Heading out to B.C. on Monday myself, beautiful province!
Lighthouse Park is really nice. I went there years ago with my young kids... We hiked quite a ways around the park, so by the end they were so tired and cranky... It didn't help that we got a tad lost and didn't know the fastest trail back to the parking lot. But, I figured it out eventually.
swinging signs so that when the snowplows clear the road, the flying snow doesn't knock over the signs
Wholesome fun video you love to see it. Welcome to the channel Grandpa!
Hey, I live in Kelowna! A beautiful hidden gem of Canada
I dont think its hidden, we get plenty of tourists 😂
As someone who lived there, the beauty is buried under a thick layer of traffic and uncounted homeless people.
@@pat9353 At least it’s not as bad as Kamloops….😂
So neat to see Uncle Zag in my IRL repeat landscapes. Hope you enjoyed your trip to the Okanagan Valley mate!
At 2:00 the gap in the trees is not actually the US border, its an old cutline that had a mining ore tram that serviced a silver mine way up in those mountains. The US border is about 24km due south of you there.
Omg I’m in Kamloops! So cool to see you visit BC! Have fun
nice vid. i am such a huge fan, keep up the good work zigzag
u havent even watched it yet
i watched it with 100xspeed@@Wabbits09
Hope is one of my favourite towns in Canada, hope you enjoyed your time here :)
Really cool to see the blend of knowledge!
the hell oscar you were in my neighborhood and you didnt reach out. i'm gonna remember this, big guy
was not expecting to see my condo building (in the distance) in a zi8gzag video :D
I live 70 miles north of gramps place you like temporate climatic zones .if you get time powell river will blow your mind with the variety of coastal and mountain stuff
Geoguessr is the perfect thing to share with old men. They love esoteric shit that doesn't matter at all in practical life.
having watched a lot of MBMM's video mining and exploring the mt baker area, and dan hurd's panning on the frasier, it's always nice to see an exploration of the region!
Highly enjoyed the vlog, amazingly done Oscar ✔️
I just drove from Gold Bridge (town of 34 people) BC to Kamloops and back yesterday. From the coast mountains to the desert, I was actually wondering how hard that part of Canada would be to find on Geogesser without any meta. My in-laws live right next to Lighthouse Park- it's lovely. And yes salmonberries.
Great vlog! Crazy to see how my own country looks on the other side of it, I have never been to BC myself, living in Quebec and went to some of Ontario. I never think about visiting my own country even though it's so massive. I think I might have to visit BC one day
love the adventure videos from you
Grandpa saw the split rock and is like "It's Split Rock Lake" 🤣 Seems like a great man, with smart observations. You are so lucky to spend time with him.
Definitely a beautiful vlog. 😁
Thanks for sharing with us, that was fun
Cool vlog! Grampa sure added to the coolness 🤠
