    Artist point is where the outdoor and hunting scenes for the movie The Deer Hunter were filmed, it is where the hunting cabin was. Nooksack (nutsack) falls also had an appearance in the movie, as did a stretch of the North Cascades Highway and Diablo Dam.

    Heading back to Park Butte tomorrow for four days (doing trail work) and wanted to check out some videos of the trail; I appreciate yours actually being informative and not overwhelmed with terrible stock music. :) Jealous you snagged the lookout; when I went up there last year (nearly to the date) the number of people up there was ludicrous!

      Thanks for watching and the kind note. Given the number of people who had signed the trail log, we were not optimistic at all. Very surprised we lucked out and no one even came up to the tower once we got up there. Very lucky. And hey, look for the thing my dad left me under the tower! I think he told me it was like a deck of cards or some kind of card game!! Would be insane if you found it! Have fun!

    Great video, Outdoor Detour. Do you know if the Park Butte trail is open in January? I want to do a day trip from Vancouver, BC.

      @@OutdoorDetour Oh okay. I am just checking to see if there are any online resources showing any blockages for this hike.
      Apparently I will need to pay $40 for a permit.

    That is called a ground lookout because there is no tower. I have built fire lookout towers for DNR and they are usually built on top of a 40’ tower 24’ x14’. There was a ground house lookout south of Cle Elum built on the edge of Peoh Point. The north side of the lookout was on the edge of a 2,000’ cliff.

    How about that weird little rock climb to get to the steps of the tower?

      Those were some very big steps to conquer with a full pack on!

    Do you have to go through the railroad grade trail, to get there?

    • @OutdoorDetour
      @OutdoorDetour ปีที่แล้ว

      If you check out the map for Park Butte Lookout Trail on AllTrails, you'll see that you follow the Park Butte Trail up, but then the Railroad Grade Trail branches off to the right (north) about 2.4 miles in.
