Noel Gallagher is probably one of the most down-to-earth rock stars on the planet. No airs nor graces about him. Recall some years back his walking into a bar in North London and joining a group of Irish building workers for a pint. They didn't know who he was - he appeared pleased to be accepted as an ordinary guy, out for a Saturday afternoon pint. He was great craic - wonderful story-teller.
I just watched his performance at The Royal Albert Hall then listened to this interview, I have always thought Noel Gallagher was a proper knob but he has just changed my mind, his performance was way above average and way better than I thought he would be. It took guts to play another mans solo in front of him and a crowd I seriously enjoyed the show.

He's good but he isn't a guitarist you can put in the same league as Pete Townsend or a whole host of even better one's. Noel is a brilliant songwriter based around basic chord structures and simplistic but memorable lead solos, technically though he isn't anything special.
Yeah, he's not putting himself down. On the Oasis records he's playing solid solos that work, not anything especially demanding. I know some people say that technical ability shouldn't come at the expense of the song, but good songs should ask something from the people playing them.
The most complicated lead guitar is the guitar guitar solo in F*cking in the Bushes and even then, Noel isn’t the one who played it. Second would be the descending run in the instrumental break in Flashbax after the second chorus

look dont compare noel with anyone. he is a genius, you only have to look at a 1/3 of his best songs to know that. if you cant see it then your not a true music fan. even if your not a noel g fan you can appreciate that. to compare him to anyone is unjust. and to say that hes a good songwriter and thats it is slightly odd since isnt writing songs the main point of music?
Blur or Coldplay would be a far better example of a beatles for the present generation. with the Beatles their songs at heart focused on melody yet changed with each album as is the same with those two bands. With Radiohead; Amnesiac, Kid A and the more recent stuff push far more musically than melodically.
