Hearing this while me and a friend dropped onto a fortress after I assumed these things weren't as bad as the bugs was the most terrifying reality check I've ever had

You know, I think it already had been said numerous times, but I really like how the Terminid and Automatons have their own leitmotiffs. And while the bugs' soundtrack gives you a clear understanding that, while you are fighting a product of mailicious, forced evolution, it's just that. Evolution. Adapt, evolve, change. No more, no less. The bugs are, well, bugs. They do what their instincts and pheromones tell them to do. No bigger idea behind all that.
Automatons, however, are entirely differednt breed of malice. Their malice is deliberate, planned, and purposeful, and, worse of all, led by sapience. Bugs will kill and fight because it's in their bilogical programming. Automatons, on the other hand, will kill and fight *because they can, want, ready, willing, and able*.
Because Helldivers are the real enemy of the game
it's funny to me because in-game, Super Earth tries so hard to portray these two factions their own opposites.
We are constantly told Terminids are evil creatures that hate our way of life and want to destroy democracy and liberty, when in reality they're just plain animals that probably don't even know what "freedom" really is at its basic core.
Meanwhile, here are the Autoamtons, constantly being told to us that they are mindless drones that can't think, they're not capable of higher thought and will never EVER reach a fraction of OUR intelligence... when in reality they know EVERYTHING about us. They know our ideals, they know our way of life, and they HATE it. They want to CRUSH it, knowing full well what it all means, for them and for us.

Most memorable moment ever playing this game because of this music, specifically 5:00
Reality set in when on how utterly screwed I was, my unit got stuck out in the open against a massive wall of bots and while we fought hard, ultimately we started getting cut down. Reinforcements ran dry and every life lost was a massive blow to our ability to return fire. I was completely out of munitions and in range of a stratagem jammer, I slid and took cover behind a small, man-sized boulder just as my team leader got stitched up by a heavy devastator. At This very moment (5:00) I turned to look at the enemy, and it was a wall of heavy devastators, two bruiser hulks, multiple strider scouts, a sea of small bot troopers, and the icing on the cake, a bot drop landed a *factory strider* no more than 70 meters away from me.
There was nothing I could do, that part of the song will stick with me.
Me too, the first time playing on higher difficulty i Was with some buddies and it didnt take long before bullets are flying and shit is hitting the fan. it was a similar situation to yours. I was crouching down, firing shots from the Auto cannon and as im reloading i see a dropship drop a factory strider probably 60-70m or so away from me and to make matters worse that was the first time I had ever seen a FS. All of this happens as soon as 5:00 played in my ears. Me saying it will never be enough to tell you the dread I felt in that moment. Just like you 5:00 will always stay with me.
Try fighting these clankers whilst being bombarded by incoming meteors, like holy f**k the music is so GODDAMN GOOD!
2:00 is genius, fits the narrative of merciless ruthless killing machines.

I was surprised that the automaton theme had a chorus.
Is this official audio or a fan added that? Because if its official. That really scares me because I have not heard the chorus during a mission.

@@goofyahhman9848have seen the factory strider yesterday and unfortunately there is no difference in combat themes.
However, I heard the power chorus for like 10 seconds when we stormed the watchtower that dropped like 30 devastators on us, my guess it's just the total amount of enemies that matters.

Automatons are the reason the anti material rifle is my favourite gun in the game. I love bringing that with the newly buffed diligence counter sniper so I can support my team from the back. Deleting bulkier units, circling around tanks and hulks for an easy kill etc.
I love that weapon.
And with the new recent buff, it hits harder than before!
It's my absolute favorite alongside the autocannon and rovers cuz I'm naturally a speedy sniper or healer tank (usually all at once cuz that's literally just my playstyle) so those weapons were practically made for me (or rather, I was made for them)
@mellennia9 as of recent, I've been running recoiless rifle with the eruptor/punisher plasma and bushwacker. I've been taking a bit more of an objective focused role as of recent, so I've been bringing the HMG emplacement and emancipator mech more. If you know how to position yourself where you aren't gonna be overly spammed with rockets, they're both great options.

This music fits that setting perfectly, us few troopers running around, somehow contending against an organized army of overwhelming numbers, casting waved of gunfire within all directions.
It’s not a fight for strategic progress or sheer attrition, but instead a fight for survival.

Am I crazy or do I hear a part of Farewell of Slavianka in the main melody? It would make sense.
The leitmotif is definitely there, tones are different though, instead of being solemn and mournful it is menacing and uplifting.
And the USSR anthem
I can hear 'The International' in it, as well as bits of 'And the battle continues again'.
The Automaton army is fueled by a personal hatred, and this theme reflects that perfectly.
The part at 5:10 with the flat (or sharp, hard to tell as a beginner musician sometimes) gives a feeling of lost hope.

Hi There! Potato diver here, and still am, running the game on 15-24 fps, with a crappy gpu and 6gb of ram (for fun, i can switch it out anytime), Anyway i remember being on malevelon creek solo (as always) with a breaker, along with a defender on an ICBM launch when a flamethrower hulk and maybe about 3 devestators which one of them was shielded appears, and the 4:44 parts (without the vocals) played. And i was running like hell to the terminal whilst trying to kill them with two e.a.t's

From the moment i understood the weakness of the flesh, i knew it was my duty to liberate it.
Honestly I find bots easy and bugs hard. When I first joined the helldivers, it was the other way around. My way of thinking on planets has changed to accommodate the bots more than it does bugs, for bots you take cover and try to keep enemies at a range, its almost all about positioning. For bugs, just spray bullets and run. Unfortunately I try to apply bot thinking to bugs, and when I get to a spot that’d be safe against the bots, but on bug planets I’m being chewed apart faster than you can say “Sweet liberty!”
Also, LAS-99 “Quantum Cannon” my beloved
it may look bad, but that cardboard box packs a punch
And the R-63CS Diligence Counter Sniper one-hits most bots too, combined with the cannon for flying and heavier enemies, that combo works great
The only bots I don’t like to fight much are “medium-range” scout striders where they’re too far to just pick off and too close to run around them, berserkers, and flamethrower hulks/what I like to call heavier berserkers, since they like to get real up close and I don’t have a great answer for that
especially the hulks since while a well-placed quasar cannon will one-shot them, they’re too close for it to be effective and nothing else damages them
