The sense of scale and dread you feel as the waves of enormous insects come over the hill towards you perfectly encapsulated.
This is exactly what I see in my mind when I listen to this score. The relentless drumming from the percussion section always in the background like the bug patrol just beyond the next ridge or dune accentuated by those long, sustained notes on the strings reminding you that you're never completely safe. I can't believe it's coincidental that the composer arranged the string section to sound this frantic, as though it's just flowing and crashing upon itself the way a swarm of the bugs will wash over the ground towards you like an unstoppable wave of death and carnage
I often find myself laughing maniacally along with my character-- both out of bloodlust as my MG sprays lead into the endless waves of grubs swarming me, and out of the sheer terror that this music manages to make me feel in response to the idea of "what if I was actually there".
It makes me laugh everytime it almost feels out of character for me, but I know deep down it ain't. 😂😂

I like the juxtaposition between the Terminid and Automaton combat music. This sounds like what you'd hear in a monster movie during a chase scene or something.
Automaton music meanwhile sounds like it came straight out of a war film.
And the illuminate sounds like a horror alien film.

The first minute is perfect. It's like you just saw them overwhelm and eat a base from a distance. Then, you step on a twig, they look at you up the hill, and you're like "OH GOD they won't let me out of here without doing the objective. Wh-where TF is that again?!" As you start 40 minutes of your hardest cardio and most deep shoulder pain.
When you think you got the first bile titan covered until some bug calls in another tunnel breach and then another bile titan comes up
Helldiver #1: Uh-oh.
Helldiver #2: Don't tell us. Multiple bug tunnel breaches are happening around us?
Helldiver #1: Yep
Helldiver #3: And our destroyer just left orbit meaning we can't call in anymore stratagems?

1:42 to 1:54 sounds like a movie scene where things transition from "We're being overrun!" bad to "Oh SHIT they have GIANT ones?!" worse.
The game is 1000% made to feel like a movie playing out. I love it.
I once played a defense mission against the bugs on Erata Prime, our first line didn’t hold forever, so we had to fall back to the second, our retreat covered by cluster and EMS strikes.
We had two HMG emplacements spilling shells as fast as fast as they were spilling blood upon the sands. Were it not for the three chargers that lead the breaching party, we’d have rebuilt the gate with the chewed carcasses strewn about.
After what seemed like a timeless orchestra of roaring guns and shrieking roaches, our ship had touched down for us, nearly saving us from their fury. It was our chariot back to home base.
Another day on the job.

Coming back to this, I've been trying to get my hands on the audio files from someone experienced but I've had no luck. Since I own the PS5 version of the game, I can't exactly do it myself. Would it be possible to share the music files with me somehow? I'd love to get my hands on these samples.
Yeah sure! Anything to help out push the sounds out on TH-cam. The problem is the audio file names are scrambled. and there’s literally like 10,000 audio files.
@easternunit2009 I work with audio libraries, so this sounds like so much fun! I make music myself, so I definitely would love to dive into this ocean of perfectly crafted music/sounds haha.

When a bile titan appears, the music becomes more intense. That's probably what you're thinking of.
@@christopherbean6802 its crazy because the theme Im thinking of actually isnt the bile titan theme( I say this because even on the lower difficulties Ive heard it). Imma have to record it the next time I drop on a big planet because I feel like Im crazy lmao

Geez, the first games music sounded better tbh. I mean, this kind of sounds like some Star Wars (generic scifi music) compared to the original HD1 themes

While I don't think these sound bad, I've commissioned music creators on Fiverr and the quality of the old helldivers music sounds equivalent to that in terms of professionalism. I'm not saying it's bad, but the new music has clearly improved upon it. And considering starwars has some of the most memorable or even iconic themes across the world, you're actually giving the new music a compliment in quality.
I feel like you just really really like the old game, which is cool. But it'd be wise to learn how to actually criticize things properly so you can get your point across in a understandable manner.

@gavinfreenone6626 new music sounds generic mate, nothing special about it, and it could be compared to almost most of the sci-fi music I hear out there, like starfield and obviously star wars, the original music had a unique feel to it, making it its own, it felt like helldivers, kind of like when you hear the halo theme, you know that's Halo ( I don't know how to put) the old ost was interactive and it had music for when you were undetected and alerted and engaged in combat, even had specific ost for higher difficulties. New one just plays the same theme all the damn time no matter what difficulty it is, and I don't feel anything with the new one, yeah, Star Wars ost is iconic, but it's generic at this point with how similar the music in sci-fi games sound, rendering the new music bland and quite meh. You could slap this theme on top of starwars gameplay or starfield, and you couldn't even tell that it's from another game. But I will say, the main theme of HD2 sounds beautiful.

I can throw a Lord of the Rings OST or God of War on top of Skyrim gameplay, does that suddenly mean it sucks? Wait what? It'd fit? Really? Could it be because they're part of similar genres like Medieval/Fantasy? No waaaaay.
Yeah, surprisingly music that share the same genre its made for sound alike. That's kind of a part of how you characterize music when making it. If someone were to use a lot of beats used in say cyberpunk 2077 in Dragon Age, it wouldn't fit would it?
And that's false, the game plays music for when there is no combat, when you're spotted by smaller foes, when you're in combat with smaller foes, when a bile titan emerges and WHEN IT SPOTS YOU SPECIFICALLY.
Like i get it bro, you liked HD1 you have your reasons, even though it doesn't really make much sense objectively when you just think about it.
You can throw HD1's music onto anything scifi related to and it'd fit simply because of the genre it was meant for.
