I swear Extraction always is either aimlessly waiting for three minutes while occasionally firing an autocannon at a distant foe, or facing the entire Terminid brood/Automaton Corps at once.
it's simple. Enemies will spawn next to the border of the map closest to the extraction point. If one of your squadmates will stand there and look directly at it, nothing will spawn there since enemies can't pop up in your line of sight.
@@kfchero2 I thought this was the case, but it can't be the only factor. I often clear everything on the map, but the amount of enemies during extraction still varies from almost nothing to almost overwhelming. Which is fun, I like almost overwhelming.
From a musical standpoint this track is an absolute masterpiece. It manages to convey a complete lack of irony in its efforts to sell the narrative of being the biggest space badass there is because anything short of that would fail at being what the game sets out to be. And it accomplishes it by pulling every music theory trick in the book while sounding like they took Halo's orchestration and structure, Pacific Rim's theme and variation, Mass Effect's back techno, finished it off with the Inception horn, ran it through a brass section big enough to make the Chicago symphony blush and then just Damascus welded the whole sucker together. Honestly brilliant, 10/10 music design.
The way the music plays it totally straight in terms of epic space badassery during the drop and evac, is an absolute masterpiece in terms of matching tone and theme.
Even better, all the motifs it shares with the rest of the soundtrack (minus the Super Earth anthem that probably works better as a completely unrelated piece). That Helldiver 2 theme riff probably has a few dozen variations in just this track alone. And yeah, the way this just breaks into the main theme at 3:42 (normally obscured by the relief/shame at making/missing extraction) really is just like Star Wars endings.
This game better get nominated for game of the year i don’t think it would win though because of ff7 rebirth but I would be happy with whatever one wins both are phenomenal games
Hearing this when taking 3 new players through their first mission, I could also hear their excitement/terror as they fought off swarms of terminids to this song. Seeing one firing wildly into the oncoming swarm while another swept his machinegun across the flanking swarm while shouting "OH GOD THERE'S MORE OF THEM!!" and the third just laughing in absolute maniacal joy while lobbing grenades into the terminids... goddamn it brings a tear to your eye when you know they get it.
The fervor of young cadets eager to spread liberty brings a tear to the eye, and will forever be a symbol of hope for the continued, prosperous future of Super Earth and her people.
My god, I once had to sprint 2km in those two 2 minutes for this exact reason, all while all automaton forces on Tien Kwan were chasing my ass. This music makes it feel possible. Ended up with 6.1km distance travelled 😂
Lol I remember a situation like that where I legit was on the other side of the map and only made it in THE LAST SECOND POSSIBLE because I had been using light armour and a jump pack, getting those samples felt good.
When you're fighting Terminids, you hear their theme. When you're fighting Automatons, you hear their theme. When they fight Helldivers, they hear this.
Hell no AHAHAHAH the first time I played on Malevelon Creek I was lvl18 and I played on medium difficulty because I tought it was easy enough and I was fearly equipped with good weapons. BOY I WAS SO SO SO WRONG Even on medium they swarm you like nothing, then you're pretty much done.
This track here never fails to make any make any match cinematic. Bots crashing in on all sides as you watch your ammo counter slowly fade. The waves getting ever closer before you finally kill them. And then the pelican FINALLY shows up right before they get to you.
Honestly had a moment on a helldive yesterday where I called in my mech and was just hosing the hordes of hunters that were spewing out of the breaches as I walked the last 100m to the extraction zone where the others were defending. The music really sets the mood, all hands on deck, all cards out to play for the finale, everyone is throwing _everything_ they have at the hordes. Honestly feels great, I haven't played a game in 20 years that made me feel this immersed and invested in the final moments of a match.
Not only that but you see the Pelican supporting you with suppression fire and suddenly the balance slightly tips in your favor. You still need to get in while you have 2 bile titans flanking you and 10 hunters 2 chargers all dancing around the extraction platform. You set lose an orbital laser. And hope it clears the way for you to enter and drop a 500k right before you enter 😎😎
1:50 ETA T minus 10 seconds, clear landing zone. 2:00 Pelican 1 aproaching pick up. 2:10 This is Pelican 1, prepare for touch down. 3:30 Another victory for the right side of History.
3:42, that moment when you put the controller down and take a sigh of relief after barely making it to the chopper while zig-zaging and dolphin diving through a whole battalion of bots
A lot of people don’t recognize how impressive it is that you’ve been able to recreate this soundtrack nearly 1 to 1 with the original, and still take some creative liberties with the arrangement. As a fellow music producer, this feels like absolute witchcraft. Well done!
Does anyone else have this playing in the back of their mind, as you make your way to your car at quiting time, desperately trying to avoid management from asking you to stay late? No one? It's just me then 😅
I love how the music swells into another buildup after 2:17 because the 4 minute extracts always get scary halfway though, and you don't hear it distinctively for the 2 minute ones.
I think sometimes the music actually starts from 2:17 on 2 minute extracts. I'm not sure if something triggers it or it's just random chance but I know I hear it from there right after calling the extract occasionally.
Nah. If it moves you its because it stirs something in you. Maybe memories of how you and your fellow divers fought next to each other against an ounslaught of enemies, trying to not leave anyone behind or it just makes you imagine an epic last stand, movie style. I also get a kick listening to this music, cuz it makes me feel like part of something amazing.
Thank you! That's actually exactly how I would articulate it. It really does make you really feel like you're giving it all you've got against legions of Terminators and Horrifying bugs, and even against all odds the Helldivers always come out on top!
Thank you for posting these seriously. I really appreciate the effort you put into these as not all the songs are available at least yet. I love how corny, bombastic, silly, and engaging the OST for this game is. It really gives off that campy 80's to early 2K's big fun action movie feeling in my opinion which is fitting for all the things that HD2's has taken inspiration from such the Starship Troopers series which it proudly wears on its sleeve.
I really wanna see footage from peli-1’s perspective on his way down to extract: thundering through turbulence and layers of cloud, seeing the fight glittering miles beneath him straight off his nose, full burner, “OVERSPEED-OVERSPEED-OVERSPEED,” his signature handbrake turn 200 feet agl, the ship rocking on its axis with cannon recoil… give it to me
Since Helldivers 2 has a set extraction time of 2 minutes, the music always hits the intense stride at the very end. I love the recent trend of masterpieces popping in unannounced and shifting the gaming industry, I also love the people who upload the ost's of said masterpieces. You have my thanks Mootacoo.
I think my favorite thing this track communicates is the Helldivers’ victory. All mission long you’ve been hearing mostly the enemy’s theme and through only slight glimpses do you get to hear your own theme when an objective gets completed. But to even get to _this_ point, the Helldivers have achieved their mission they set out to complete so now they’re just adding insult to injury by living to tell the tale. The majority of the song is basically a ”oh yeah! we did it! smell ya later losers!” theme song. As many commenters have pointed out, at 1:48 the music gets noticeably more stressed as the golden moment approaches. It’s gotten to the part of the mission where you go “okay time to stop fooling around and not fuck this up” and the music certainly reciprocates that feeling.
I swear 0:11 - 0:27 sounds like something straight out of Halo ODST while 0:39 - 0:52 sounds like something I could somewhat see in Star Wars. I LOVE IT.
This song hits harder when you ran out of time, an emergency evac is called in, you are several hundred meters away from the Evac Zone and you have to get there in under two minutes. And you are the only one carrying all the samples since everyone died. Liberty speed your step helldiver because you're gonna need it.
finally ive found the theme that actually gets the beginning right, there are other ones that are high quality but they got the drums at the start wrong.
@@Jackgsxr1000Sony tried to force everyone to make PSN accounts to play the game but the community pushed back Unfortunately we still haven't won, Sony just changed strategies. They've banned every country that can't make a PSN account instead, likely so they can just drop another mandatory PSN update in the future
Finally. FINALLY... someone brought the version @2:03 which has the correct segue into the shuttle landing moment, and it's brilliant - easily the most nail-biting part and my favourite section of the thrilling musical underscore for the extraction procedure. Thank you a tonne for doing this, it's greatly appreciated. Definitive upload on TH-cam.
Epic! You are the first one to properly nail the intro exactly as ingame. Other recreations have the order of the song cues mixed up. Bravo for your work bro!!!
Listening to this has made waiting for anything to happen in my life so much more interesting. Putting this on while waiting for the bus or train to come is so much fun lol.
At 3:34 is when manage to either hold off long enough for samples guy to get back, completely overwhelmed and stemmed to the ship, or waiting 2 uneventful minutes because your team was crackshot in clearing the mission
0:56 Three Helldivers on-foot running from a horde of Terminids, only for the Patriot Exosuit to come rolling over the hill opening up with the gatling cannon. That’s all I hear at this part
I love how well this song captures the extraction process the initial excitement of calling in the extraction shuttle, defending yourself until pelican 1 arrives, and then finally finishing the mission.
This gives me major Destiny 2 Last Wish vibes (specifically the 3rd phase of the Vault encounter) I saw someone say that one of the people who worked on the Forsaken OST was involved here, which makes sense honestly
2:42 and onwards, just landed those stun grenade along with your teammates on those 2-3 hulks devastating everyone -- and now you are emptying your HMG into their faces while your diver screams "GET SOME!!! GET SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Barely made that extract, but ever since that part of the theme just gives me the chills.
For me its at 2:27 no more respawns, as Im carefully laying prone sniping out Automaton hulks using the autocannon. Keeping it cool while everything is going chaotic.
Only 2 of you, your buddy dies as the super destroyer left. Heavy armor with a hmg, a supply pack with 3 left and half a flag to raise. Extraction is over 300 away. "Emergency shuttle eta 3 minutes" Damn i love this game ❤
Whenever I hear this theme, I can't but imagine the drummer SLAMMING with all his power and might into those cymbals GOD DAMN. I can't fucking way to get my hands on a drum kit so I can try and learn this piece
I like how at 1:40 it's pretty hopeful and upbeat, because extraction is just around the corner. But around 2:15 minutes it gets more desperate. like, the designer knew that if you weren't on the bird at this point, it's cuz things aren't looking good for you...
This is my theme of casually walking out slowly from office while trying to hide my presence so my boss, co worker, janitor, security, etc didnt call me out
If everyone in your squad leaves the extraction radius with ~10 seconds left, Pelican-1 will hover over the area and his gunner will fire at any enemies nearby... and I'm 95% confident that I heard the gunner shout "FOR PEACE!" at one point while he was firing.
It's the stabbing, biting, determination to survive against all odds. This game would have dropped off the radar after two weeks if not for the legendary soundtrack. Hats off to Wilbert Roget II for being such an incredible composer and for having such a [pops in a monocle] jolly splendid name!
FINALLY SOMEBODY SAID IT people keep commenting on other various parts of the song, but THIS part always manages to bring chills down my spine and a big dumb smile on my face
0:00 "okay boys, get your Sentries down, we're going to have to hold the line" 1:00 "Easy Extraction boys" 2:02 "Pelican at extraction zone, touching down" *Guy carrying samples dies* 2:43 *squad running in circles and getting blasted trying to retrieve the samples, diving between insects and bot fire* 3:33 *butt cheeks unclench* Another round boys?

This song hits harder when you ran out of time, an emergency evac is called in, you are several hundred meters away from the Evac Zone and you have to get there in under two minutes. And you are the only one carrying all the samples since everyone died.
Liberty speed your step helldiver because you're gonna need it.
finally ive found the theme that actually gets the beginning right, there are other ones that are high quality but they got the drums at the start wrong.
Right?!? It peeved me to no end too with how others mixed the cues up. This man just earned a sub from me :D
When Sony threatened Helldivers 2 and the community held ground and fought back...... and eventually won!!!
Wait what? I leave for like, 2 weeks and all this happens?
@@Jackgsxr1000Sony tried to force everyone to make PSN accounts to play the game but the community pushed back
Unfortunately we still haven't won, Sony just changed strategies. They've banned every country that can't make a PSN account instead, likely so they can just drop another mandatory PSN update in the future
@@ZorillaMyrid181 that all sounds really confusing, painful, and tedious
As a random I played with one time once said: "Well boys, extraction was always optional. True Helldivers never come home."
Finally. FINALLY... someone brought the version @2:03 which has the correct segue into the shuttle landing moment, and it's brilliant - easily the most nail-biting part and my favourite section of the thrilling musical underscore for the extraction procedure. Thank you a tonne for doing this, it's greatly appreciated.
Definitive upload on TH-cam.
02:43 - I am in heaven! I just love music from movies and games...so good!
my favorite part too, always feel so badass when this part is playing and im just rambo mag-dumping an MG into a horde of bots/bugs
Epic! You are the first one to properly nail the intro exactly as ingame. Other recreations have the order of the song cues mixed up. Bravo for your work bro!!!
Yo wtf this is actually one of the greatest VGM scores ever. Wow. This song is beyond epic.
finally, thank you for getting this where I cant hear the noise suppression fighting for its life to get rid of combat noises lol
Who's here after we WON
FOR MANAGED DEMOCRACY RAAAAAAH
I AM
We'll never bow to those console bugs! For democracy!
It really does feel like “Mission Complete”
@@Rumen35I'd rather have a c-9 perment with a bug, than managed democracy from sony
Listening to this has made waiting for anything to happen in my life so much more interesting. Putting this on while waiting for the bus or train to come is so much fun lol.
3:06 that moment when you try to fend off for the next two minutes with everything you have for dear life.
This hits different when youre going on a run
When the music hits, it's literally the longest 60 seconds you'll ever feel in your entire life
At 3:34 is when manage to either hold off long enough for samples guy to get back, completely overwhelmed and stemmed to the ship, or waiting 2 uneventful minutes because your team was crackshot in clearing the mission
3:33 “Victory was never in doubt.”
3:34 I love hearing this after completing the most epic + stressful mission ever
0 lives left, only 1 Helldiver alive, 0 stims, 0 grenades, with ALL the samples
0:56 Three Helldivers on-foot running from a horde of Terminids, only for the Patriot Exosuit to come rolling over the hill opening up with the gatling cannon. That’s all I hear at this part
I love how well this song captures the extraction process the initial excitement of calling in the extraction shuttle, defending yourself until pelican 1 arrives, and then finally finishing the mission.
This gives me major Destiny 2 Last Wish vibes (specifically the 3rd phase of the Vault encounter)
I saw someone say that one of the people who worked on the Forsaken OST was involved here, which makes sense honestly
2:42 and onwards, just landed those stun grenade along with your teammates on those 2-3 hulks devastating everyone -- and now you are emptying your HMG into their faces while your diver screams "GET SOME!!! GET SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"
Barely made that extract, but ever since that part of the theme just gives me the chills.
For me its at 2:27 no more respawns, as Im carefully laying prone sniping out Automaton hulks using the autocannon. Keeping it cool while everything is going chaotic.
Listened to this on my last day of school today
Liberty speed your step, HellDiver.
2:25
"PELICAN ABOUT TO DEPART , WE CAN'T STAY MUCH LONGER"!!
*Heart Begins to race even faster* 😥🫨
And you are running back with the samples too
Only 2 of you, your buddy dies as the super destroyer left.
Heavy armor with a hmg, a supply pack with 3 left and half a flag to raise.
Extraction is over 300 away.
"Emergency shuttle eta 3 minutes"
Damn i love this game ❤
Wow, I didn't even realize this was a recreation until I read the comments, amazing work!
2:14 my anxiety level when trying to get into the pelican: 📈📈📈📈📈📈📈📈📈
You did it, Managed Democracy prevails once more. Now it's time to come home.
The longest 2~4 minutes you'll ever experienced everytime.
Democracy has prevailed! Let's fucking go!
Running to the emergancy extract because you forgot to collect the Mutant Larva will always be stressful but DAMN was the music good!!!!!
To all the helldivers that never made it home, may liberty reign supreme!
The drums on this go *HARD*
This song has never felt cooler than when my team had to race across the map because we'd run out of time.
Me and my friend when we kidnap the level 1 helldivers from a Trivial to Helldive difficulty dive
3:33 this plays in my head after clocking out at work
Just listened to it all the way home work.
Im training to be a helicopter pilot, I swear if there is a loud speaker im playing this song
Hearing this at the 2:03 mark then remembering that you have a 4 minute timer (2 mins left) in helldive with 5 Bile Titans and 1k hunters
Nothing a few well placed orbitals and eagle strikes can suppress
ANOTHER VICTORY FOR THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY
2:27 when im running back to the shuttle after rescuing the samples
(Shuttle is about to leave me behind)
0:56
this part hits so incredibly hard i can’t even explain
IKR? Don't know why, really. Goosebumps.
My favourite part. It once played when I was being overrun and my stalwart had never felt more powerful 😂
Same I don't know why but it's favourite
It's the stabbing, biting, determination to survive against all odds.
This game would have dropped off the radar after two weeks if not for the legendary soundtrack.
Hats off to Wilbert Roget II for being such an incredible composer and for having such a [pops in a monocle] jolly splendid name!
FINALLY SOMEBODY SAID IT
people keep commenting on other various parts of the song, but THIS part always manages to bring chills down my spine and a big dumb smile on my face
The first 15 seconds just goes so unfathomably hard
The theme that you listen to while you either get violently pulled over a cheese grater or where you just awkwardly stand around and hug
0:00 "okay boys, get your Sentries down, we're going to have to hold the line"
1:00 "Easy Extraction boys"
2:02 "Pelican at extraction zone, touching down"
*Guy carrying samples dies*
2:43 *squad running in circles and getting blasted trying to retrieve the samples, diving between insects and bot fire*
3:33 *butt cheeks unclench* Another round boys?
0:35 gives me chills every time
3:41 just hearing this after super helldive against bots is just so satisfying
Playing this because we won an incredible victory against the greatest threat to Liberty yet: Sony.
