So many young outrageous drumming geniuses out there-Chris Dave, Thomas Pridgen, Dafnis Prieto, Adam Deitch, Benny Greb, Francisco Mela. and on and on. We are so blessed. The music world is becoming even more creative and diverse
funny cause chris Dave is like 43 years old. but he has the taste of a 20-25 year old. he'll never be too old even when he's 70. so tasteful. taste that a drummer can only dream of having
This guy is phenomenal! Several years ago, I saw Robert Glasper, Jr. give a show with Meshell Ndegeocello and a musician from Africa (can't remember his name). Robert called Chris up to the stage, and this dude belted out one helluva tune using 2 Bic pens, a piece of paper and a music stand!
I distinctly heard "groove" from 0:58 until around 1:31 and paused to post. I'm sure if you got in his head, it would be nothing BUT groove and singing to himself. ;)
9 years later i see this comment, i've been a fan of both chris dave and mars volta for forever, never thought about that combination. that would be insane.
Perfectly articulated how I feel. Its almost like he is bored with drumming, but cant stop, and tries to keep entertaining himself.... when the rest of us just wants a funky beat

The Max Roach of Hip Hop?---
straight from the heart..
I need a doctor right now!!!, pffffff this is unreal! LOVE IT ♥
such musical playing
For some reason, I am getting the same vibe I got from Jack Dejohnettes (sp?) Modern Drummer performance. This guy is an absolute inspiration!

One of my Faves since late 80’s. NDEEED Chris
Chris is testing and hearing sounds as opposed to just "banging" on the drums like most drummers on TH-cam.
So innovative:-0 Def one of my personal favorite drummers!!
I think this stands to be the dopest drum solo of 2012.
And I was HIGH watching this. Chris has to be on a Modern Drummer Dvd Immediately, if not SOON!
Snare ain't nothin but a drum. So lucky to have him on the scene right now.
WOW!!!! what did i just see!!!! GENIUS!
何故に大阪!!
pure drum poetry

qué bien que toca este loco
@Datura63 ahaaa I don't think there is a word that could go there. I say it was ... ahaaa
how did he make the snare sound like a tom...just awseom..black magic..(literally lol)
amazing how he can do all this with snares
He was probably born with sticks in his hands. Then he just never let go of them. Amazing.
@jonnydrums413 You're watching the wrong video then
its weird cuz the black surfer vid is exactly the same as this but theres music?? I dnt get it wat does it mean to get surfed??
@jonnydrums413 yea it would be like the sickest dilla beat :P but its prob so boring for him to play
I like how his chewing gets more intense as his solo does....hahaha
Is this on a DVD?
musicianship…
if i can count like that i'd rather be mathematician
STAAHP
@devon8trillionaire I don't think Amazing is even the right word. That was ..... with all snares. hehe
大阪?まじで?
demigod or nah
I haven't listened to any Dave this year, and this is super nasty.
maybe some gum fell out of his mouth, but my jaw fell off my face
I don’t know whether to call this drumming or magic………………….
Like Napoleon Dynamite.... I don't get it.
Zurdo!!!
@LipanConjuring8519 haha i hope your not a drummer. Probably is, so many clueless drummers out there
So suitable for the MARS VOLTA

Oh come on. Play something that goes somewhere instead of ostentatiously avoiding the "obvious."
+caferrara heh i know exactly what you mean...
With a better sound as well, like Tony Williams, who was an obvious influence of yours ;-) .
i think hes trying to surprise himself.. thats the whole thrill of drumming
