    In our latest Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video we talk about the fate of the dragonborn.
    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
    The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

    Maybe if TESVI take place like 50 years in the future the Dragonborn will succumb a combination of age disease and injury and laid to rest in Ysgrammor’s tomb along with the great 500 companions

    My personal headcanon, though I recognize is probably wishful thinking, is that the Dragonborn will have something to do with the Second Great War. This also comes with the caviat that ESVI occurs after the Second Great War. Whether they lead troops in battle, become the next Emperor, or lead an counter-invasion of Alinor. I think ESVI will deal with the after-effects of such a war

    He lives on, Absorbing Alduin's soul gave him the power to live a long life. and he's still as strong as he was or more after he fought alduin, guarding tamriel from ultimate destruction, siding with anyone and everyone he deemed righteous, but if things gets out of hand. He shall call Odahviing to his aid. (Like something BIG....like um.....an unknown, sealed ancient banished daedric prince, who's Identity has been removed from the history of skyrim, never to be discovered again until someone opens his cage.)

  • @Vort23
    @Vort23 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I personally think that it'll be written in history as this:
    A. Defeated Alduin the World Eater, saving Nirn this time around.
    B. Defeats Lord Harkon with the Dawnguard and kills off that Dynasty.
    C. Defeats Mirrak and returns to Skyrim having truly become the Last Dragonborn.
    D. Disappears or does something else major and proceeded to mantle into Talos and becomes the hero god of man.

    My character is a fucking psychopath, as I'm sure other people's dovahkiin is too. Bane of the World Eater, Bane of Miraak, champion of the Daedric Princes, a formidable vampire lord, the listener who made tamriel fear the dark brotherhood again, and etc. Perhaps the dragon born was locked away by the people of skyrim in fear of the dovahkiins power, making a tomb for the dovahkiin using the dragon claw doors and the dragon claws the dovahkiin had collected during his/her adventures, and then spreading the dragon claws all across nirn to keep any and all from releasing the terror that the dovahkiin is?

  • @The.Nasty.
    @The.Nasty. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Dragonborn is inducted into the blades during the main quest right? My guess is he lives out his days in the blades. Maybe even being one of the soldiers that goes out to destroy the dark brotherhood, or defending Whiterun and turning the tide of the battle.

    If the LDB is a Shezzarine like the theory. I Believe that similar to The Hero of Kvatch becoming Sheogorath, that the LDB will take Shors throne or will return to the form of Shor entirely. The LDB just being a husk for the creator god.

    My personal preference would be for him/her to conquer Tamriel and begin a new Empire like Tiber Septim. That would allow them to ignore the outcome of the Civil War and return to a world where the Empire isn't a pathetic ghost of it's former glory.

  • @wolvetica
    @wolvetica 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What if the player met the Dragonborn in elder scrolls 6. But there was no fight and the meeting was with a ghost who imaged the dragon born, who had a statue built among the highest point in ES6, the statue would emanate the dragonborns’ soul, allowing for short conversation of history, but would never be spoken to again

  • @darthlazurus4382
    @darthlazurus4382 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the fate of the Last Dragonborn will be made open to interpretation. There are a lot of final fates they could have so in the next game Bethesda could hae fun and list multiple endings for the character.
    They could even put in an argument about the Last Dragonborn's relationship with the Dark Brotherhood. That the last Dragonborn killed the Emperor, or destroyed the Dark Brotherhood.
    "Oh, if the Dragonborn destroyed the Dark Brotherhood, why are they still around?"
    "Well, it's not like he could have gotten them all."
    Boom, all possibilities covered. The fate of Titus Mede could be made muddy, concerning how he died, and it could be implied that the Dragonborn either rebuilt the Dark Brotherhood as its new Listener or a new version wad created by the Night Morther and Cicero. Hell, maybe Babette could make a cameo.

    Dovahkiin will probably retire with his family in his cozy little home. He’ll live happily ever after with his wife, while attending to his children as they run around and poorly hide while playing hide and seek and constantly beg the Dragonborn for an allowance. As he lays down to rest with his wife for the night, he slowly sits on the bed and rolls over to sleep. Soon after he begins to Wake up to the sound of a wagon moving down an old dirt trail and horses walking, he turns his head to see a man with blonde hair that kindly says, “ hey you, you’re finally awake”.

    The Idea of Hermeus Mora claiming Dragonborn's soul is lame to say the least
    First of all one must consider the reasons why the two Dragonborns(Miraak and the main hero) sought the help of the Daedric prince
    While Miraak did it for selfish reasons the Hero did it in order to save the people of Solstheim
    Plus the Dragonborn may be a "supershouting" "pseudogod" or whatever you described him to be but he is still mortal therefore vulnerable and can be killed by normal means like all the characters in Skyrim
    I personally believe that he might play an important role in Skyrim's resistance against a future Thalmor invasion or even becoming one of the Greybeards
    Or there could even be a "paradox" of more than just one Dragonborn each of them choosing their own fate
    Any of these endings are better than the hero becoming another servant to the sleazy Hermeus Mora and his octopus-like minions
    Hell even Hermeus Mora couldn't control Miraak and he needed the help of the Dragonborn to subdue him so I hope the writers of TES series won't make that dumb decision regarding the fate of such a great character

      I think the LDB's fate is to be left ambiguous, or at least for the time being. It isn't certain that he becomes Hermaues Mora's servant, considering he was allowed to leave Appcrypha but it is a possibility. Though if that is the case, then it'll be because the LDB chose to continue serving Hermaeus Mora, and not because he was forced into it. The dialogue at the end from the Skaal girl confirms this. Basically she just says that the LDB may have worked with the daedra for their benefit, but they are not tied to to Herameus Mora, and can choose their own path.

    • @jackalhead7433

      But I have to agree with you on that part about Mora and his motives but still
      that doesn't change anything
      After saving the world from impending doom more than just one times
      It make absolutely no sense for the Dragonborn to end up like Miraak, a slave to a Daedric Prince
      There are more than just one deities in the TES universe and Hermaeus Mora isn't the sole ruler of the world
      Normally in the end it should be all up to Dragonborn's choice
      Unless the creators have some lame nonsensical fate in store for the hero like serving a sleazoid Daedric prince for eternity

    I'd much rather Bethesda never to explain or state what the dragonborn did AFTER Skyrim and Solsteim; make him/her simply vanish, and songs about what he/she could have done afterwards be sung around.
    On a sidenote, though, I'd love the idea of an abandoned shack, ideally an unmarked location, somewhere on Tamriel for the next protagonist to explore. Inside its decrepit wooden walls are few little things have survived the passing of time; there is, however, a sturdy chest to be opened. Inside it are a few dragon bones and scales and an ebony mask (which would be Nahkriin's, the only one we can assume the dragonborn canonically had, since the trip to Skuldafn was a necessary step to enter Sovngarde).

What if i want to do other quests I haven’t done? I wouldn’t have the motivation.

    • @split776
      @split776 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Disappearing doesn't mean that it happened immediately after Alduin's defeat, it could happen few months after, or thirty years, or (if the next game is set far enough in the future and your Dragonborn's race makes it possible) even two hundred years
      Personally I think disappearance is the most interesting fate for the DB, since it leaves lots of room for players to fill the gaps and roleplay a little bit - did your DB retire after a life full of adventures? Did they leave Skyrim after the burden of their fate and all the battles became too heavy, hoping to never be found? Did they go on many more adventures until something happened - what was it that stopped them from returning this one time? Have they found some secret new place and decided to stick around and explore? There's just so many cool options to play around with, and I think it's much more interesting than ending up in Apocryfa forever or something

    I got a theory. I think that, maybe the Dragonborn, is an actual Dragon sent by Akatosh to be a sort of Soul gem for his Dragon children. While there isn't much to say anything against or for this theory (except that we never see Alduin take a couple souls but maybe that's just his honor to his brothers). What I believe is that the Dragonborn kills all dragons and takes their souls, eventually, the Dragonborn will lay dormant until every Dragon is killed, his soul will then be sent up to Akatosh where he can have his dragons. It's just a theory I had and I thought it was interesting to theorize that maybe the dragonborn was, in the beginning, a dragon, maybe even apart of Alduin's original plan. Maybe this is how Akatosh does it, every millennium, the Dragons arise and a Dragonborn is fated to take their souls.

    • @willthevill5500
      @willthevill5500 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I actually believe in this idea because there was an original time god that predated Akatosh, AKA. AKA governed all of time but he no longer exists and is replaced by Akatosh/Auri-el in the grand scheme of things. Not only that, Aka shattered into multiple fragments,Akatosh representing the new start of time, and Alduin representing the end of times, and dragons (possibly) being smaller fragments of time themself and the dragonborn doing the deed of killing dragons is restoring broken fragments of the original AKA soul. Eventually the dovahkiin himself will die and his soul will return to Akatosh. That's my personal theory on the swing of things

Like, he’s there but unless you target Skyrim he says live and let live. That way you wouldn’t necessarily need to address the civil war, he would just let it play out, but he would absolutely be on the frontline against the Thalmor, since they represent a threat to Skyrim.

It could be a cool idea to, perhaps as a side quest in ESVI, uncover secrets of the Dragonborn, and piece together what happened to him/her, if NPCs don’t make it clear.
    Just my take. I feel like the gaming community as a whole has been impacted more by the Dragonborn than any other ES protagonists, as cool as they are.

      I have a feeling Bethesda is considering that factor Blake Davison. I think it is going to be a challenge for them to top the Dragonborn. I think many players are attached to their Dragonborn characters. I know I am. This isn't nostalgia for me. I know that Skyrim was not perfect and it wasn't everyone's cup of tea. But, I liked that the Dragonborn was unique and special. People won't admit it. But, the Dragonborn was something special. You went from being nobody, to being this amazing somebody. I love how the story started for the Dragonborn. Some people complained about the Dragonborn being forced on players. No one forced them to play. Many people did like it. Being the Dragonborn was awesome. It felt good to be the Dragonborn. I just can't un-Dragonborn. My boyfriend laughs at me. But, I got a mug that says Dragonborn on it and the skull of a dragon over it.
      If we got married, Skyrim would be my inspiration for our wedding. I picked out a Calendar the other day, because it had mountains on it that reminded me of Skyrim. I also just can't imagine my world with out dragons. I know I get annoyed when I hear those buggers for the millionth time. But, I know I'll miss it, when I don't hear them anymore.
      ES6 may very well be a well made game with a great story. I can't deny that the Godfather is a classic. But, it's not my cup of tea. We all have our favorite Star Wars chapter or our favorite story out of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Skyrim will forever be mine.

    I think it would be pretty cool if, at the beginning of Elder Scrolls 6, they would implement a Dragon Age-Style system, where you could select the major decisions that your Dragonborn made in Skyrim, like if he sided with the Stormcloaks or Imperials, if he became a Vampire Lord or joined the Dawnguard and if he killed Parthunax or not...

    • @Darth_Insidious
      @Darth_Insidious 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Maybe, but the Elder Scrolls universe is pretty consistent in not referencing too much of the different events of previous games. They invented The Warp in the West and Dragon Breaks to make it so this universe isn't very forthcoming in exact cannon. Likely they will write the next game as if all the events happened, yet only some of them happened, or maybe only the main quest happened, from the perspective of different historians. It seems like in the Elder Scrolls as well the only truth is what people believe to be true in a sense. Depending on people's beliefs Gods fade out of existence, historical events and climates can be retroactively changed, whole civilizations can disappear from existence or be rewritten.

  • @matthewfisher1311
    @matthewfisher1311 6 ปีที่แล้ว +82

    I always figured that Bethesda would make every quest cannon- as in every possible quest would be completed in some way. If you don't have to complete a quest, then Bethesda would just refer to 'someone else' completing it anyway. As for quests where you have to make a decision, again I think bethesda will just add lore after the events of skyrim which reverts whatever your decision was to one outcome e.g. Kill barbas or reunite him with Clavicus> if Bethesda decides they want them reunited but you kill barbas, they'll just pretend somehow he was resurrected/returned anyway.
    Essentially I feel like they'll claim certain shit happened in skyrim regardless of what you did- whether you had a hand in it or not.
    Hence it may not really matter what happens to the dragonborn so long as he eventually disappears/dies and doesn't do anything outside the parameters of skyrim the game.

    • @TheMoonRover

      Yeah, this. The Dragonborn killed Alduin, Harkon, and Miraak. Someone became Harbinger of the Companions and lifted their curse. Someone discovered the Eye of Magnus and became the Arch-Mage of Winterhold. Someone returned the Skeleton Key to Nocturnal and became the Thieves' Guildmaster. Someone assassinated Emperor Titus Mede II and became Listener of the Dark Brotherhood. But whether any of those someones are the Dragonborn will be left unclear. What happens during the Civil War will probably be left vague but the final result will be stated.

    • @insaincaldo
      @insaincaldo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well all of the guilds could certainly do there thing without a Dragonborne's involvement. Though I'm pretty sure they won't decide that the Dragonborne did absolutely everything and well some things could end up being part of history anyway, another adventurer could have done it, though they can't write that either. So they will probably try to not say too much, but might decide that some things absolutely did happen regardless if it has nothing to do with the main story.
      Don't think they will mention any minor Dedra interaction though, all the Dedra quests that are not part of the main story doesn't really matter. Sure Barbas will be back if they put in a quest for Clavicus again, killing a Dedra just banishes them anyway.

      There’s an issue with that however. In the Dragonborn dlc the Dragonborn becomes servant of hermaeus mora and in cyrodiil, worship of daedra is extremely frowned upon. That’s create dissent in cyrodiil which could lead to a succession war between pro and anti dovahkiin forces. The imperial legion would already be weakened from fighting in Skyrim then they’d have to deal with that war. The next issue is the aldmeri dominion. In high elf Society the worship of daedra is highly frowned on as well and the thalmor being high elves themselves would not take kindly to a Dragonborn emperor who directly serves a daedra. They were willing to start a Great War with the empire to outlaw talos worship so I don’t see why they wouldn’t do the same to dethrone him to ensure that daedra influence doesn’t spread there

      @@plapplupify It kinda does matter and plus it wouldn't make sense for him to help stormcloaks win then become the Emperor. What that entails is, him helping Skyrim free itself from an Empire in which he'd be controlling (which is shooting himself in the foot because he's weakening his own empire). And plus, "rightful" or not doesn't really matter if he's wanted gone. The Elder council more than likely won't be on his side, so his own government would likely be against him, the people would likely be against him due to his affiliation with Daedra (also the oblivion crisis ended about 200 years prior so there would probably be anti-daedra sentiment in Cyrodiil, due to them ravaging the province). Whether he's "rightful" doesn't matter if he won't have any support, usually the blades would work directly with true dragonborns but they were disbanded by the Thalmor and the blades in Skyrim are a small organization, so he has no one to back him on the throne. The only thing he has going for him is that he's dragonborn, that aside he'd probably be more controversial than Titus Mede II and you see what happened to him, ended up assassinated, ordered by a member of his own council

      The dragonborn needs worshipers to do that though, and I don't remember starting any dragonborn cults in Skyrim. The Numidium worked wonders for worship of Tiber Septum because he wielded an artificial god across Tamriel. The tribunal also needed worshipers to sustain their divine power, the heart of Lorkan was a good upstart but they had to insert themselves into the divine portfolio of the dunmer's previous daedric gods to sustain that power.
      At most I could see the dragonborn being worshiped as an aspect of Akatosh or Talos and achieving divinity that way. Not even the emperors were worshipped beyond their divine right to rule through dragon blood.

Perfect example of this can be witnessed in game by both Miraak and Durnehviir. Miraak willingly alllied himself with Herma Mora and even began to conquer the inhabitants of apocrypha. Durnehviir were tricked into serving the ideal masters and mentioned how they lack the ability to possess his soul. Dragons and Dragonborns are alot more powerful than people think and Bethesda really didn't do them any justice in tes 5.

      Making protagonist some kind of ruler is probably the single dumbest trope in gaming. Being good on the battlefield has no bearing on one's skill in politics.
      Then again, Skyrim readily names you the leader of any faction just because you did some stuff for them, not exactly because you show promise as a leader.

      But it's heavily hinted at that the Thalmor are supporting the Stormcloaks, and General Tullius has a few lines which show his frustration at Ulfric for his shortsightedness. It seems like Ulfric really is only in it for power, spurned on by the Talos issue. For him, the Thalmor aren't even a secondary issue. Leading on from that, why would the Stormcloaks who control Winterhold allow a Thalmor mage right into their midst, if not due to an under-the-table deal between Ulfric and the Thalmor.
      The Dragonborn siding with one side of the civil war IS canon, since if you join the Imperials you being a Dragonborn is referenced by Hadvar (he's a salty bitch) and Ulfric asks to be killed by the DB since "it'll make a better story", which does hint towards the DB siding with the Imperials.in the overall canon
      TESVI is centred around Valenwood for a reason: it's the frontier for any war between the Aldmeri Dominion and the Empire

    I don’t think it would be possible for Bethesda to NOT make a canon choice for the Imperial vs Stormcloaks war. If they didn’t then then there is a massive discrepancy in the strength of the Empire in preparation for the second Great War.

    • @Amaryllon
      @Amaryllon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      That's actually not that hard. Let's say TES6 takes place 200 years after TES5. The only way you could learn about the civil war is via ingame sources meaning it could be something like this:
      most sources: "The civil war had destabilized skyrim to a degree that made it essentially a non-factor when the aldmeri dominion finally decided to complete their conquest of tamriel. It was defeated much like the rest of what was once the empire."
      source A: "Ulfric Stormcloak had liberated us from the tyranny of the empire, but at a high price. Most of our resources were depleted after the war and many brave nords died on the battlefield. This enabled the cowardly elves to eventually overpower even us."
      source B: "The Stormcloak rebellion had been successfully defeated and skyrim was once more a province of the empire but the civil war had cost the empire many valuable resources, weakening the empire enough for the aldmeri dominion to abuse it."
      There you have it. As the outcome (in this hypothetical scenario) is essentially the same and you only have biased sources it doesn't need to be objectively specified who won.
      (Another potential scenario could be the dissolution of the empire leaving skyrim a sovereign kingdom regardless of whether or not the stormcloaks won the war.)

    • @demikus
      @demikus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      that largely depends on when the next game takes place, it could take place around the same time as the events of Skyrim, or at the least a couple years after. Or far enough into the future the Empire has officially toppled and one of the reasons listed for it's topple is civil strife, they don't need to specify which side one, because honestly even if the empire won that civil war they really have no logical hope in the grand scheme of things.
      I feel the Empire will go the way of the Romans.

    • @dustinjackson4761
      @dustinjackson4761 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think both sides lose no matter what. It makes sense to me for the game to be set in Hammerfell 15-20 years later. The Crowns and Forebears are feuding once more, and it is because one faction made an alliance with Skyrim, while the other made an alliance with Cyrodiil. High Rock is still keeping out of the conflict, and the Orcs of Orsinium (which is now in the mountains bordering Hammerfell and High Rock) are vying for statehood.

    • @NorthRemembers
      @NorthRemembers 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is implied in Skyrim that a second great war against the dominion will come. And in that case I think that Skyrim and Hammerfell would join forces with the empire, even if the Stormcloaks won. The next game will probably take place during or after this next great war, meaning that at this point the empire will be united anyway. So in the long run the choice will not really matter and they don't really have to mention anywhere which side actually won.

    Something I do have to say with the Dragonborn disappearing into Herma Mora's arms with the fact of as soon as he/she dies he would return to Sovengarde regardless to any other binding because the last dragonborn IS Shor... a reincarnation of him and that leaves it whether he is bound to a Daedric Prince or not well it is quite possible that after doing the daedric princes quests it becomes realized by them just who they proclaimed their champion to be and that they couldn't bind the soul to themselves as it was the soul of an Aedra...

      @errantvenatus6732 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Terminator True with him being a Shezzarine is fair but there is far to much seemingly circumstantial evidence for there to not be something along those lines being happening. As the last dragon born is also addressed as the Northern Dragon which was given to many Shezzarines previously and the fact that Shor is absent from Sovengarde at the same time the Dragonborn is there are just to situationally odd. It could also be though with the ending if they do not wish for the Dovakiin to be a Shezzarine as well then they could just have the Dovakiin replace Shor upon Sovengarde. Still I feel if neither of these happen to be the case he will end on Sovengarde as there is an unnatural affinity there with a Living man having gone to a realm of the dead and back. Again anything we do think of though is just speculation since we won't know until the next installment that is chronologically after Skyrim

    Something I found to be interesting... Dragonborn, as a collective, *seemed* to be created specifically by Akatosh to be ultimate dragon slayers, a necessity since Alduin could just resurrect dragons after death. Now that Alduin is forever dead, there is no need for more Dragonborn. This was alluded to becoming true with the events of Oblivion in which the dragonborn dynasty of the Septims were killed off, even prophesized as going to happen, both in Alduin's Wall and in Uriel's visions. It was in preparation for Dragonborn no longer being needed, as Scott in the video stated, in that they could become almost god-like in their power. God-like beings without a purpose could be troublesome.
    Considering Alduin's Wall; every main story for every Elder Scrolls was depicted, heralding Alduin's return, and the arising of the Last Dragonborn to confront him... I'm curious to see if all these major events is leading to something to come. An aligning of events and happenings culminating in a single eventuality, a penultimate event that will tie all the previous occurrences together... Or maybe I'm giving Bethesda way too much credit.

    again we have the possibilty of another dragon break, 3 choices with the same outcome. always possible that during this rending of time the 'last" dragonborn is removed from existence along with the dragons he fought.
    another question to ask, what is to become of the dragons? only YOU and miraak can fully kill a dragon, so once the two of you are out of the way its kinda simple the remaining dragons can simply restart their empire. the blades only managed to kill them the first time cause of the help from a dragonborn, though it does raise the question why those weren't soul drained. either way, dragons take a huge amount of effort to kill and will run away long before taking fatal damage. its hard to see them NOT being in future games unless they are somehow written out of existence.

      "with enough skill" ive never had a time playing the game where an npc was able to kill a dragon without my help, even if it only came in the form of level 15 archery, hunter's bow, and iron arrow snipe shots. theyre may be a band of people able to train to become dragonslayers, but they are few and the total number of dragons is unknown, if not endless.
