Ok here me out here this is about the bewilder beast... the berwilder beast under berserker island is clearly smaller than valkas and dragos but it must be more than 3 years old (which is older than dragos) because the body with the dragon eye has clearly decomposed and it takes more than 3 years for this to happen and the dragon eye would have to be made before he died so that bewilder beast is older yet smaller than dragos so how does that make sense?

I'm not sure if this counts as a story/myth, but I always liked the idea of the Big Crunch. Basically the idea is the universe is currently expanding, but eventually gravity will pull it all back together. This is analogous to throwing a ball upwards, eventually it will reach a peak and then fall back down. When the universe collapses it will basically rebound outwards, creating a second Big Bang and restarting the cycle. Unfortunately measurements have shown that the expansion is accelerating rather than slowing down, so it's more likely that the universe will just keep expanding and everything will freeze over and fade away slowly into nothing.

At the end of the fight, Alduin screams: "Zu'u unslaad! Zu'u nis oblaan!" which means "I am eternal! I cannot end!" I guess that kinda implies he's really expecting to end this time.

Adam Xei I doubt it’s a direct threat to Akatosh, as Alduin is somewhat of an aspect of Akatosh himself if I’m understanding this correctly. If anything I expect this: alduins soul was reabsorbed by akatosh, and alduin, knowing that eventually this kalpa would come to an end, would be incarnated once more at the discretion of akatosh in order to bring forth the new age. Although I would not be surprised if akatosh devised another method of bringing forth the new age seeing as though the Dragonborn stopped alduin in his tracks in events of Skyrim

What I find most interesting is how momentous that final battle is when you look at the lore. Both Alduin and the Last Dragonborn are aspects of Akatosh, but it's also implied the Dragonborn may be a Shezzarine. What's more, the battle takes place in Sovngarde, which is Lorkhan's domain. So, you basically have Akatosh as Alduin fighting with Akatosh as Dovahkiin. Now, recall that dragons see the Thu'um as a debate, and you basically are seeing the physical manifestation of Akatosh's indecision regarding the mortal world, with the Lorkhanic side ultimately winning and allowing the Mundus to continue.

My favorite world ending apocalypse story would be either Divinity: Original Sin's or Dragon Age's, both for the same reason. In the past of both universes, the world ended in a way that literally broke it and left it fundamentally fragmented and devastated in a way that never recovered. Banishment of the Eternals and Scarring of the Veil for Original Sin and Creation of the Veil in Dragon Age lore. However, in both settings, you get to see that even after such a dark event that took place on a scale that is far greater than any mortal and human achievements in the setting, there is still a world that thrives and lives on. I mostly like them because it gives a sense of continuity and reincarnation of a universe, even if not rejuvenation of it entirely.

They might’ve even manipulated events so that the dragonborn would be out of the way when he was no longer needed. If this is the case, it could be why Mirrak awakened during the 4th era. Holy shit, Akatosh is genius, So Akatosh being the god of time and when time shattered, he lost most of his shards like you said, I don't think he purposely created the dragons yet the dragons were born from this time shattering. Akatosh DID create the Dragonborn, a mortal that can basically go and collect these Time Shards aka Dragons. When you defeat a dragon, you collect their soul, an aspect of time itself, you become like a vessel that stores the shards of time. Your sole purpose is to collect these shards for Akatosh, and we see this when the Laat Dovahkiin defeats Miraak, we absorb not only his soul, but all of the Dragon souls Miraak himself have absorbed. Akatosh absorbing the largest shattered shard being Alduin means that once the Laat Dovahkiin dies, Akatosh will regain nearly all of the shattered shards of time and probably regain his power that he lost during the creation of Mundus

My guess is exactly what Arngeir said.
Akatosh pulled Alduin’s soul to his realm. Locked away as punishment, while still being allowed to return when the true end times would arrive.
Akatosh also never intervened in Oblivion, the fusing of the power of Martin’s bloodline and the crystalized blood of Akatosh (the Amulet of Kings he broke to release its powers) allowed Martin to become an Avatar of Akatosh for a short while.

I believe Akatosh to be a Dragonborn God for lack of a better term. His soul Dragon and the body that of the Elven God "Auriel". The Dragon breaks ripped Akatosh apart, losing his essence thus the Dragons running on Nirn. Little pieces of his Dragon soul. The more souls absorbed the more like of Akatosh you probably become. If the last Dragonborn absorbed all the remaining Dragons he could be more of Akatosh then Akatosh himself is right now. Each Dragon is is Akatosh, a fragment of time. Time is always changing and different then before, thus the many dragons. The physical manifestation of time. Akatosh was time's beginning, Alduin time's end but as physical manifestations.. the last Dragonborn is a continuation of time and the more merciful nature of Akatosh. In a fight he'd probably use the Thuum, hell Kyne was able to use it as well as Tsun Implying multiple Gods might use the Thuum. That might be how they use their divine powers, with the Thuum just more precisely and powerful as they are Gods. I mean the Thuum can basically do anything, it allows you to warp the world around you as the last DB so it makes sense. Anyway I think Akatosh is collecting himself through the Dragonborns and eventually he'll be whole again. Thus once he is whole again the cycle of time restarts because of it. He needs Alduin to wipe everything out so Akatosh can get his soul back in one piece. Alduin didn't do that so he got sent back to Akatosh, He sends Dragonborns to aid or change things to lead the events of Nirn to his end plan. The Last Dragonborn and Alduin are both his personalities fighting. His Dragon aspect vs his human aspect in a verbal argument about the fate of time..

  • @locotaco2671

I know I'm years too late for this conversation but, what if the reason Akatosh wants the actual kalpa to continue was because of the destuction of the Heart of Lorkhan. When you thinks about it, after Lorkhan became the world, whoever had its heart could control reality on the Mortal Realm. And when it was destroyed by the Nerevarine, maybe it sacrificed any future kalpa because the "Earth" won't exist. Thus, because this kalpa is the last one, Akatosh wants it to keep going and it sent the "Last Dragonborn".
I love this theory because it explains why Akatosh would wand to mantle (aka replace) Alduin's place in order to prevent the end of the world, because it is the last one.
It also shows how terrifiying Dagoth Ur was as a villain, that the Nerevarine had to sacrifice all the following kalpas just to stop Him to mantle the God-Head and supplant the "Dreamer".

Well, alduin is needed for the calper cycle to continue, and it's impossible to stop those, so my guess was that you just forced him to regenerate for an extremely long amount of time? Like, you bought nirn at least another few thousand years, but he's a vital part of that universe, the third and final aspect o akatosh. Auriel create the timeline, Akatosh is the embodiment of time, and alduin devours it, creating room for the newer cycle. There world kinda can't exist without him, so he's deffinitly not dead, just...extremely crippled.
Edit: well, he went into it with a lot more detail, but basically yeah, I got it! Great video

Another cool idea has to do with Dragon metaphysics. If dragon souls go to the strongest dragon there, then it is reasonable that Alduin's soul did not go to you. Why? Because you are in Sovngarde and that's in Aetherius. Aetherius is where the divine's essences are. So, the soul goes to the biggest dragon present, Akatosh/Auri-el/Aka/Aka-Tusk or whatever name you use.
Minor Nitpick: It's kalpa, not calper.

Perhaps the Dragonborn becomes the new world eater after defeating Alduin. People always ask where the Dragonborn’s soul will go when they die, but maybe they are destined to live eternally, to the point where they grow so powerful and so bored with this reality that they destroy it themselves in order to create something new.

Alduin, Akotosh, and Auriel are the same being. They each represent a different aspect of the divine concept of time. Auriel is the beginning of time, Akotosh is the progression of time, and Alduin is the end of time. They are all different aspects of the same being. when alduin says he is the first born of akotash he means it in the same way as jesus was the first born of god. The father, the son and the holy spirit are all different parts of the same concept of divinity. This is one of the deeper lore concepts creatively added by the writers of the game.

I honestly thought that since we were in Sovngarde and it was Lorkhan's realm that the center light thing in the sky was Lorkhan's essence. After getting killed and all that I assumed he couldn't even take a personal form even in his own realm so he was just that light thing. I thought that since this was his realm where he "owned" the souls of the dead that he absorbed Alduin and this could give him enough power to manifest himself in the future. Maybe setting up the stage for TES 6 where he would be "reborn" and go to war with the aedra who killed him or maybe the daedra. Since he is the pro-human god and the Thalmor are growing he could play a role there. Especially since it looks like 6 will be in High Rock and Hammerfell where the Redgard are fighting a good fight. Not to mention that in this scenario the orcs could ally with the Thalmor since they are mer and worship daedra who Lorkhan would be against. This would put Lorkhan and the Redgard together against the Thalmor and Orcs with maybe a possibility of dividing the orcs and bringing some to the Lorkhan side.

If there is one thing I realized playing Skyrim is that it had good ideas that were executed poorly. This is primarily do to cut and dry expectations by Zenemax (Owners of Bethesda), and it shows. However, this is truly the reason I keep coming back. Religious and philosophical questions the game plays on is one of it’s many highlights. I’ve come across situations were it’s literally a lose/lose situation. When The New Dawn Cultist tries to buy me out of killing him, and then promised the blade if I do, I had very different justifications then the narrow writing wrote. I thought that if anyone could protect a potentially lethal and cursed weapon, it would be the Dragonborn. Safe guarding the weapons from people who would use it to their amusement, that is why I killed him. Then the daedra just go,
” Yay your a slave now go do my bidding my champion!” The message the game portrays is that you can either ride out your destiny, or stray from the path and end up the same place anyway. You could just accept that the guy has the pieces now, sit by while a potential threat lurks to be unleashed. Or, you could take the daedric artifact for yourself, and risk being a threat that will eventually fall upon Tamerial. It’s truly a question that has been studied many times: Can fate truly be changed, even at the cost of their soul?

My favourite apocalypse story doesn't come from myth, but from a game. It's called Enderal and you may know it because it's essentially a full-conversion mod for Skyrim. The plot of Enderal *[MASSIVE SPOILERS ALERT]* revolves around the High Ones (Die Hohen); godlike beings that periodically end all life on the planet in an event known as "The Cleansing" (Die Leuterung). They then feast on the rotten essence of humanity and create a new one of their own. The twist is, they High Ones can't actually exert any control over the material world and they can't cause the cleansing, so what they do is threaten to cause the cleansing to unwitting mortals, then coax them in building a device that will supposedly destroy the High Ones, but in fact will cause The Cleansing and destroy all mortal life...

One thing many misunderstand about both Norse mythology and possibly the kalpas of Elder Scrolls is that the world isn't necessarily cyclical in these kind of word views. Ragnarok is never portrayed as a cycle in the sources, Ragnarok roughly translates to "Twilight of the Gods", which says nothing of the beginning of a new world in the image of the old. It is said that humans, as well as the children of Thor will survive Ragnarok and begin the new world, and it says nothing of another Ragnarok to come. This new kalpa may be something entirely alien to those of Elder Scroll lore. Who knows what the next kalpa will bring? The end of the kalpa might also bring an end to existence itself, to suddenly stop the dream of the Godhead could have disastrous consequences for those beings thay dwell within the universe of Elder Scrolls.

For the life of me, I cannot remember what it is called...mostly because the last time I read the series I was 10...and I am 33. It's been a while. However, I still remember the main points of the plot and how it all ended. Narnia is destroyed utterly, but a few survive thanks to Aslan transporting them to his domain. Well, sort of survive. Because of all the Christian analogies Lewis pulled throughout the series it is implied that the survivors are actually dead and end up in heaven. The Chronicles of Narnia were weird like that.

Several Elder Scrolls games and dlcs have to do with mantling, the HoC mantling sheogorath, the neravarine mantling nerevar himself as a saint and mannimarco mantling an absent god to become one... Oh and wulf becoming talos or whatever... Wouldn't it be logical to think that maybe the DB could become the next worldeater, but this time eating the next world to prevent this kulpa from ending to make way for it? Akatosh could also have taken Alduin's soul to prevent DB from mantling Alduin in the first place, but with how many other shards the DB can get into them it may be an inevitability that the last dragonborn will become the new worldeater... Especially if they're a vampire lord and take miraak's place of conquest.

What I like about ES lore is how vague it is. All the double meanings and possible interpretations and contradictions. We don't understand our own universe. We don't know everything about it and what has happened in the past. And the same is true of ES. The beings that live there merely provide theories, ideas, their own interpretations of events. Very rarely does anyone genuinely know what the truth of the matter is.
