I live solely on Social Security and I’m alone… no family. I purchased most of my furniture for my 8 room house (I do own my home and I am still paying for it) from thrift stores. Additionally, all of my clothing, including shoes, coats and boots, except underwear, come from thrift stores, and consignment stores. Have you tried looking at thrift stores for a recliner to replace your current one?

I would check thrift stores first. Test them out in the store and find a big, he-man, comfortable recliner. If the upholstery is ugly, buy a big, cute blanket and throw it over to cover it. A big recliner should last 20+ years. I know they aren’t necessarily “cute” but it will be much more comfortable and durable! I had a big brown leather Lazy Boy before I got my rotator cuff surgery because I had to sleep in it, too.

Living on social security sure isn't fun for any of us. You will have to decide how bad you have to have a new chair. I won't use my sons credit because I'm afraid social security will suddenly just stop. It seems like it's always up for discussion in DC. And then there's always other things to come up--like vehicle problems or needing new crowns for teeth. Everything just keeps costing more everyday. Hope you feel better real soon.

Sorry that your recliner is meeting it's end of life. With constant use they do get worn out. If you have any thrift stores close by, maybe stop in and check them out for a good recliner. Even if you were to pay 50.00 for delivery, it would still be cheaper than buying a new one. Depends too, what style you want. My hubby likes the wide ones, where there is room to move and shift from hip to hip. Praying that a recliner comes your way, whether thrifted or a new one. 🙏🏼

Bad idea to put furniture on a credit card. There are many affordable pieces at thrift stores or tag sales. You'd be surprised. Many people decorate their homes with pieces that never get used.

    • @minigirl6839
      @minigirl6839 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

So true about pieces that are never used. I hate to admit this, but I have a nice set of leather LaZBoy sofa, chair and ottoman that nobody has ever even sat on. I have a spare bedroom that has a nice Tempurpedic mattress on the bed, and nobody has ever slept on it. I never thought when I was building and decorating my home that I would have rooms/furniture that would never be used. I am planning on downsizing in the near future. I hope someone can/will be able to benefit from some of the things I never needed or used. I've noticed that the thrift stores in my area (Texas) only accept or sell things that are in good or excellent condition. If the stores in Long Island have the same criteria, Glenda should be able to find something nice and affordable. I certainly hope so. 🙏 🤞

Have brunch and something light for supper since they cut my food stamps to 71.00 funny how prices of things are going up and food stamps come down. Also apply for low income housing. How do I qualify for Medicare to cover my lift chair?
First, you must get a prescription from your physician that states your lift chair is a medical necessity. Next, you and your physician will complete and submit a Certificate of Medical Necessity for Seat Lift Mechanisms Form, PDF opens new window.
For reference, here are some of the medical requirements for Medicare to help pay for your lift chair:
You have severe arthritis of the hip or knee, or a severe neuromuscular disease.
You can’t stand up on your own from a regular chair.
Without the chair, you’d be confined to another chair or bed.
Once standing, you can walk independently or with the aid of a walker or cane.
You do not reside within a skilled nursing facility, hospice or nursing home facility.
How much do lift chairs cost through Medicare?
If you qualify, Medicare will pay 80% of the cost of the motorized lifting device. You’ll pay your Part B annual deductible, the remaining 20% for the device and the cost of the chair itself. The total amount you pay can depend on any other insurance you have, where you get the lift chair and more.4
    The bottom line
Lift chairs can be a safe and simple solution for anyone with hip, knee or muscle issues. If you feel you could benefit from a lift chair, reach out to your physician for more information.

What about people who don’t make that much per month? What do they do? This is a big gripe of mine. No wonder people are on the streets. French Toast: 2 eggs
    Cinnamon
    Nutmeg
    Vanilla extract
Only use 2 pinches of nutmeg and a half teaspoon of vanilla extract, a half teaspoon of cinnamon into your eggs. After the french toast is cooked you can drizzle a little pancake syrup on top. That's how I make my french toast, I think you will like them 😃

I'm 46 and up until now i used to spend 100% of everything i earned on travel, food, enjoying life etc. Only now am i starting to realize how low my income will be when i'm a senior with no pension plan (I've been self-employed most of my life, never worked long enough anywhere to be included in any pension plan) other than the Canadian government one. My dad used to get $1700 a month, which is the maximum. I'm fortunate enough to have a house without a mortgage that has a rental AirBnB on top. Me and 2 of my best friends want to definitely live somewhere where you don't have to shovel snow at -30C in winter when we're older, so the plan is to move to Vancouver (yes, with my 2 best friends! They also plan to move here). With the rents here in Vancouver being 3000+ for a studio or 1BR (and i want a 2BR, cuz i need a home office and TH-cam studio, lol), i need to start putting savings aside and making investments so i have a little cushion in 20 or 30 years. i don't regret any cent that i spent, for a have REALLY enjoyed my life and still am today, but i do wish i would have put a little aside (I've spent hundreds of thousands travelling). That's the advice i would have given my younger self - put 10% of everything you earn aside. At least, i still got some time to save up.❤

So, I see a lot of people suggesting Thrift Stores, and or Facebook Marketplace for her chair. And you're right, both are good places to get great bargains, on just about anything. I guess my only question about that idea is, recliners, especially good quality ones, are extremely heavy and huge! Unless somebody she knows has a way to transport one, and get it up her steps, I honestly don't see how getting it some place like that would work? Any suggestions on how she would get it to her apartment and up the steps if she did buy it from a store that didn't provide such services? My husband and I have gotten a lot of bargains that way, but he's strong, and we have a minivan with stow and go seats, that can transport almost anything. I'm all for her looking for a bargain, but you need to examine her circumstances as well, if she doesn't get it from a store that delivers and brings it into her living room. Glenda, if Jill is offering the use of her credit card, maybe that's your best bet? And maybe you could pay her a small amount each week, for as long as it takes? Just a thought...

Use Jill's credit card but make sure she can pay it off immediately in her next bill (so you don't have to worry about the interest - one should never allow interest to accumulate) and work out a payment plan with Jill. I took a look at that furniture store and there is one on sale for just under $300. At $30 a month back to Jill, it would be paid off in a year. They are also running a 72 month free interest plan if you qualify. Just make sure it is paid off before interest kicks in.

As long as you're able to do videos as you are now, your views will continue and having a variety of things in them, you will be fine. I look forward to seeing you on TH-cam. I watch them 2 or 3 times 😊

Thank you for saying that! I very much appreciate hearing from you & learning that you watch my videos over & over! I'm hoping that I can increase the frequency of uploads as soon as I am fully recovered from shoulder surgery. Also, I want to return to promoting products on Amazon

It's kind of not fair because taking care of Jills children takes up all your time which you could be working a part-time job somewhere.

Thank you for watching - commenting. I appreciate your feedback. Both grandkids are in school full time now. When my shoulder heals completely then I can look for a part time job

Sweetie I don't know what to tell you but yes take her up on it. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do. Just not enough money for SS...it's hard! But it's ok to ask for help! If I had it I sure would get you one!

Yes, take Jill up on her offer. I had to do the same thing about buying a new mattress a few years ago and I had to pay my niece back. Do you need something comfortable to sit on?

That's how I bought my bed when I moved to NY but I was earning more money on YT back then & I knew I could repay Jill
