Just wanted to thank you again, it worked great!!! I bought the parts off Amazon, hooked them up, which was super easy. And was able to watch my horses all the way on a 3 hour drive to go camping. It was awesome, and made me feel so much better being able to watch what they were up to the whole way! All for under $60. Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video!! I ordered the parts, they came in 3 days. I installed the power source permanently in a light near the back window, wired the transmitter to the power for the antenna booster, and mounted the camera to an old GPS suction mount. Loaded the app and...IT WORKED AS PROMISED!!! It just doesn't get any better.
Tom, you were a God Send. We were in the process of taking a trip to Missouri, spending two days in a hotel along with two days of rental car and a whole lot of money to have a rear view camera system installed on our Airstream.... then we saw your video! We spent less than $100, didn't have to change our travel plans and two days later we have a system like the one in your video up and running. We are just waiting a RCA extension cable/power to complete the project. Our Airstream (2014 International Serenity) came with a DC plug in a front cabinet. I just had to wire in a DC plug and we were good to go. Thank you soooo much. John & Laurie
Nothing short of brilliant! I admire how you sussed this out! I'd been shopping Amazon for a record-able rear camera solution, and You have offered what I believe to be the simplest ever! And, I have most, bar the transmitter, of whats required, on hand. My gratitude for this!
Can't believe I found you. I'm looking for a system, they can run $300. I've been looking at this so long I was lost. You've made it so simple. Thank you. Wife and I are heading out this summer. I'll check again for the part numbers.
Thanks Mortons. I put this set up in my RV and it works like a charm. Worked so well, I got another for a temporary hitch camera. I mounted in a box with a AA battery pack and set it on the boat tongue. I use it to perfectly align the RV to the boat trailer everytime. Then just pick up the box and put it away. Thanks for the money saving tips. Im doing the Cell Booster next. Also I be sure I buy all of my Amazon stuff through your site. Thanks again.
Great idea. Seems to me that what you want to move is the transmitter antenna, not necessarily the transmitter itself. You could keep the transmitter closer to the camera (powering both) and use a shielded antenna cable to the front of the RV. I was thinking of using the [covered] vents on the front/rear of my TT and entry/exit point for the antenna (front) and the camera (rear) so I didn't have to pierce the roof or side of the TT. Running a small hole through the aluminum shroud around the vent (where the vent meets the roof) using a rubber grommet or silicone to glue it in should work. With the vent covers on there is very little chance that there would be any water incursion. I am thinking I'll mount the antenna on the top of the vent cover and for the camera (since I don't have a window in the back of my TT) mounted using silicone to the roof where it meets the back of the TT giving it a high/wider view. Of course the camera would have to be designed to be used on the exterior - not sure the one you spec'd is. Also, there is 12v available in the vents (not switched - so I may put a switch near the fan switch to turn the camera on/off)
Thanks so much for the great tip. I ordered the camera and wifi unit and was up and running in just minutes on my bench. Took a bit more time to install permanently. Our fifth wheel came with a Furrion mount that I pulled the cover off and drilled a hole through inside above the rear cabinets. Mounted to sending unit about halfway in a convenient location. Bought a magnetic mount that fits in the CD slot and am exceedingly happy. Thanks again for your great video.
Glad it worked out for you, Thanks for sharing your story. Its comments like this that keep me motivated to make videos when we find a neat solution or fix for something. Thanks,
Have a question for you. I'd like to connect this wifi to a tailgate camera for ford f250. I want to use the OEM camera but not sure if it would just connect to the wifi sender and 12v. Any experience with the OEM camreas? Thanks
I have used the Camacho brand bigger cameras on my truck and wired in 2nd camera for my travel trailer. One recommendation I would add to your setup to maximize signal is mount the WiFi antenna piece as high up on the glass or better yet, do not close it in the cabinet. I do IT wired and wireless networks and fix a lot of issues by simply finding the right spot. Great video.
Thank you for sharing your creative solution. I just installed these items and am no excited for our next trip to use the camera in action. I ended up getting a 5v to 12v usb connector, so I didn't have to hardwire to anything. We just plug in the usb connector to the 12v plug in the Airstream, and we are in business!
Great hack. Ordered all of the same equipment and a 3 meter extension cable. Permanently mounted the camera to the top rear exterior of our 22' Wolf Pup RV and mounted the transmitter about mid trailer in a cabinet. Distance was not an issue receiving the signal to the front of the truck from there. The trailer charges the 12V onboard RV battery going down the road so continuously powering the camera and wifi transmitter while driving was no issue. Also works great while your parked and the truck is off running on battery only. I got a APPS2Car Universal Tablet CD Slot Car Mount Holder Stand as well on Amazon ($13.95) for my iPad mini which works even better than the suction cup windshield mount. Tablet is lower and my CD slot is on top of my head unit so Im not blocking the nav / audio screen.
Just bought and set this system up for our 31 foot trailer. Wonderful. It is truly plug and play. Simple easy and affordable. I am not technically inclined. Use this video and your be fine. The manual instruction that come with the camera and transmitter are next to useless. Amazon was great as wellHighly recommend this video and system. Affordable and easy to do.Many thanks
This is exactly what I want to have for my little Casita camper. I am going to order the transmitter and camera right now. The way I take the power connections is that you have your reading light power to tap into and the camera plugs into power out from the transmitter. I will let you know how it goes. Great instructive video by the way. Articulate, good video picture. Well done. Thank you
Just ordered the "kit", Trans, Camera and 30' RCA cable total: approx: $68.00 , this is about $41.00 less than a "good" 7" monitor/camera setup without recording feature. Again, thank You so much for this excellent solution! I've also gotten the "WifiAV HD " version of the app [Free]. I'll come back when I've received my Amazon shipment and finished my install. Youda Man!
So as i mentioned earlier i did apply this to my motorcycle. And i have to say, it works like intended. The image is very stable, a single hick up every now and then. Super simple to install. All in all a much safer feeling knowing whats coming at you from the rear. Did a day time and night time test run and both video's are pretty decent to look at. The camera i bought has 2 options, 1 is mirroring, if the cable is cut you get a mirrored image, other option is to leave the second cable as is and that prevents the rear view parklines to be visible. You can watch both (very boring) vid's if you look up my channel. Again cheers for this solution !
Hello Tom. Hoping you can help. What great video you did for you back up camera with 5th wheel towing a boat. You seem very knowledgeable. I know it’s been 6 years. Can you provide me with the LINKS to purchase the camera and transmitter? (Lol found them in the description) I’m new lol. The transmitter seems to have bad reviews. Have you since posting that video found a better transmitter ? Or if you have found a better solution for the complete system? Looking to put a camera on my front bumper to see the curbs when parking. And what it to work on my iPhone 11 as a monitor.
Great video! Even as a 77 yr old woman, I understood it, and will be hooking up my van. I'm going to try setting it up with a Kindle I don't use. Thanks!
Love the video. I am about to install a backup camera to the rear of my camper trailer for the purpose of being able to see when it is safe to get back into the slow lane after passing someone. I can only see the front corner of the trailer from my passenger side view mirror because the trailer is 8' wide. I then got to thinking about installing another camera on the passenger side to cover my blind spot. It wouldn't do much good to see that I'm clear to the rear, only to shove someone beside me off of the road. SO, I'll have to cogitate on how to do split screen monitoring to a single monitor. If you have any low cost solutions that would fulfill this infrastructure then I would love to hear from you.
Installed and working. Can’t wait for first camping trip in May. Backing trailer will be a breeze now. I was looking at 3-4 hundred dollars. Total spent? $70. Thanks for the solution and for the savings. Wayne in Nashville
Great idea was looking at the regular system for my parents 32ft class A and my 37 ft 5er but couldn’t see paying what they are asking. This gives me something to think about getting. Thanks for tech tip.
I am having problems with my expensive so called waterproof camera and came across this video. Seems like a great solution. Now I am just getting into the RV life and learning all the ins and outs. I have a question for which I have not found an answer for yet. How do I get Wifi on a moving vehicle. Now I know the answer is going to make me feel stupid but here it goes I am hitting enter.
Great video. Didn’t work for me for some reason. I wired transmitter to the light in front of my camper so I’m getting power and have connected to the WIFIAV. However when I pull up the app I see nothing. Doesn’t seem like I’m getting power to the camera. I have plugged the dc power out cord from the transmitter to the camera and have the av cords plugged up. Nothing. Any suggestions ? Is there some secret switch on the camera or is there a light on it that shows it is getting power? Any help appreciated before I send all this back
Nice job with this share. You made it easy to find the items on amazon and put it all together. Thanks very much for all that. I installed the camera in one of the exterior light fixtures on the upper rear of my camper. It’s like it was made for it and of course I could use the light’s power cord for the juice. The tip of the camera unscrews to remove the metal bracket and allowed attaching to the light fixture (where the light bulb was). Im having trouble with one of the power connectors. It takes a little twisting and wriggling to get the unit to come on sometime. Other than that I’m set. Thanks again.
Sue Brown I’m going off memory here but mine appeared to be one wire. I cut it and it turned out there were two very small wires inside a black jacket (not sure what else to call it). I connected those two to the camera wires but apparently backward because it didn’t have power to the camera (I assumed it didn’t matter which). I switched them and it worked fine.
I just installed this in my AMSOIL bus. Works great. Thank you. Update: I have used this now for a couple of weeks and it works good from the rear of my 38 foot converted school bus. In on particular area where there are lots of wifi signals interferring, my screen freezes which apparently means I have lost the signal for a minute or two from the transmitter. This does not happen often but it happens in the same location consistently.
Ty for the great idea I bought the transmitter and camera And installed it in our motor home the installation was a breeze we are very satisfied with the resolution now we can view the back camera in my mini iPad we have one question how can I down load the record it video from WiFi app to my iPad storage ty again for this great wifi transmitter and camera Great price from amazon.
As I'll be back full-timing in my Airstream soon, I've been looking for a good way to put a camera covering the door from the outside as a security measure when I'm camping who-knows-where. A back-up camera would be a good secondary use. This is just what I wanted!. By taping the camera to a side window, I hope to cover the door area and the back window for backing or highway use is great too. Thanks for saving me a bundle, and I didn't have to drill any holes in the exterior either.
Quick question I’m thinking about putting this in my old school and I am using my iPad as my cars head unit is there away 2 retain my 4G internet connection this way I can listen 2 music from TH-cam while driving.
Tech question. I have everything set up per your instructions. However I use an android OS & it's a little choppy but tolerable. So, I got to thinking, with the tablet I'm using, the sunlight overrides the screen at times. Anyway the wifi transmitter, transmits at 2.4ghz Do feel that any monitor that has a 2.4ghz wifi will operate I've been looking at of all things a baby monitor that has a 7" LCD screen and has its own 2.4ghz wifi antenna From a tech standpoint do you feel this will work?
So one of the items I bought came with an RCA to COAX adapter, and made me start thinking. There is a coax port in the back left compartment for cable TV. If I run the video cable from the camera to the coax port and use the RCA to COAX adapter, then I plug the transmitter in up in the bedroom at the furthest forward COAX hookup, then I can return that big massive RCA extension. It feels good to be able to use internal wiring that's already there (that I never use anyways).
This is the first video I've seen that allows for using your own viewing device (iPad, etc). I am planning on doing this and using my iPhone. I really don't have the space in the front of the truck for my iPad. And what I think is cool is that my iPhone is already plugged up and charging (playing music, etc.) I can double up on it to show the back of the travel trailer when I need to change lanes. Well done sir!
I installed this on my Roadtrek 190 Popular, wired to the tail lights (not the backup lights), so I can see what is back there at any time the lights are on. The wifi broadcasta from just inside the back door from the bottom of the storage shelf. Please note that the wifi works only with OS 10X or greater. I attached the ipad (7-inch) to the sunvisor with two velcro strips so that I could leave it running while driving, but not have it always providing a potential distraction. I am very happy with the system.
Great idea. Only thing I’m wondering is the image backwards. Seams like the video shows u driving in the left lane. But I’m sure your in the right going by the video. Scratching my head now trying to figure out how I would run my wires. I hate the look of camera wires exposed on the outside of the rv. My taste is its tacky for me. I would do what u do but we have no window on the back of our camper. Might run rca wire when I replace the roof in a few years. I pan to run them from out DVD player in the living room up to the master bed room and down to the bunk bed as well. Aiming other bigger added ons I plan on doing. Like the second ac and having it ducted through out the rest of the camper
Curious if you’ve had any reliability issues with the WiFi unit you mention in this video. I bought one in September based on your video. I used it twice as a back up camera while hooking the truck to the fifth wheel. Went to use it last week and can’t get a signal from the WiFi unit.
Great video! I bought all of the stuff. Do you cut the connector off of the power wire to tie it into the light wiring or is there some sort of pigtail adapter?
Thanks for sharing this..Did a temp install to see if it would work and it works great. Do you know if there is a fix for the recorded footage being totally backwards? Thought I lost my mind when I looked at the replay. Thanks again for the great tutorial
I have a exsiting black and white backup camera in my 1996 motorhome. I believe its hard wired with a coaxial wire to the back. I m looking a for a GPS which also has a back up camera, but most are wireless. Would I be better off seperating the two?
Good idea. Im prewired for a Furrion but they're ridiculous. All I need one for is backing up. Kind of hoping I can find something that will fit my mount and will transmit directly from the camera to my Phone or tablet
This is exactly what I need. Here's a my question is it possible to use more than one camera on the same app or the same iPad and have different pictures on the screen screen or would I need a screen for each camera. What I would like to do is put one on the back of my RV for my other trailer for my Harley and two on the sides of the RV and maybe one on the front of the truck.
Suggestion, would be to mount the camera lower, so you can see if a tire blows out. All your technology placed to high, could leave your boat trailer riding on 1 or 2 rims without knowing it.
Great idea and video. Do you think a wifi range extender like a NETGEAR N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender would work instead of using all the RCA cable. The 903 transmitter could stay in t he back of the RV with the range extender in the front of the RV. Your thoughts.
I did think about trying to boost it but have not tried it. As long as you can log into the booster and put in the password it would probably work. I have seen this done with other IP cameras with success. It would however be one more step to getting it broadcasting. If the booster quickly picks up the signal each time it turns on then it might be a great solution.
I am planning to use the reverse light connection of the vehicle to power the transmitter/camera. I'd like to know if the phone app works or opens automatically when I put the car in reverse. OR-- Do I need to tap on the phone app each time in order to view when backing up? Great video, btw!!! Thanks.
I dont think this camera would work well as an on demand backup camera as it does take a few seconds to turn on and you need connect and open the app. Its convenient for adding a wireless camera that stays on but I would probably look at a different option for that use case, maybe wired.
there is an app on the Play Store that allows you to connect two phones (your old one to your new one) together called "IP Webcam" and if the distance is to far, you can use a usb powered wifi extender (xiaomi wifi repeater 2)and do all of this crisp clear and cordless and reuse your old tech for security or observation or anything.
you don't want to tap it into the brake light, tap it into the backup light so it operates when the car is in reverse. Better yet, if you tap it into a driving light or any accessory line, you can use it as a rear view camera and see what behind you at all times.
Great idea thanks for all the research and help to do this I have four different tow vehicles and I wanted a camera for when I hitch this way I can move it vehicle-to-vehicle depending on which vehicle I decide to use at the time
Hello Tom, I bought this setup and managed to get the video on my iPhone after I realized the power supply I was using was only putting out 5 volts, not enough. Question I have for you is how do you save the camera video? Any suggestions?
Does the transmitter come on as soon as it gets power or does it also have to be turned on separately? I'm thinking this could be set up as a backup camera powered by the backup light circuit, but if you have to turn on the transmitter separately this wouldn't be practical.
My big question is if I use that transmitter and my Samsung 4 can I run a signal from the back of a 30ft camper up to the front of a crew cab 3/4 ton truck that pulls it? It is almost impossible because of the way Coleman made the bottom of the camper to run wires from the back of the camper to the front hitch area. So I need a camera with a high power output wifi transmitter that WILL go easily say 50 feet through walls etc to the front seat of my truck. Will this unit do that? Also will a wifi booster / repeater work with this transmitter? Thanks Jimmy, wx9dx
Is there anyway to link up more than one camera to the transmitter? Or would I have to purchase a transmitter for each camera? Also would multiple transmitters create interference between each other? Thanks I love this idea
You cannot connect more than one camera to a transmitter as it currently is setup. You could probably accomplish this with some sort of inline switch but i havent looked into it. Cant say I have tried multiple transmitters but I wouldn't think they would interfere. It uses the WiFi Spectrum so its all digital on the same frequency anyway, I would think it would be fine. I think you can only connect one transmitter to a device at a time tho.
I used a wifi setup on our caravan displaying on a Samsung tablet. The problem with digital over analogue is when the analogue signal drops out you know there is an issue as you get a scratchy screen and know to stop the manoeuvre. When digital drops out you get a frozen screen and you can be fooled into thinking you are on track for a few seconds.... until impact! Yes, this works well when it is working, but in reality, low power wifi is unreliable and WHEN it lets you down it will be costly!
Might be a 'dumb' question but do we have to keep our WIFI powered up for the whole duration of the drive? I think so? Also, is the WIFI connection the one we use at home? Thanks very much!
Nice detail. Where we travel wifi and cell signals are not often great. How much bandwidth do you think would be a minimum for reliable service on this system? Thx
This setup does not require an internet or cell signal. It creates its own wifi network. Wifi is just a digital wireless signal can be used really for whatever. It's just usually used for Internet. In this case the transmitter uses it for video. This unit will work anywhere in the world.
Thx for your speedy response. Will any type camera work as long as it has a video out? (yellow) and a power in (red)? Looking at one for fitting in a licence plate frame.
I bought a camera and a transmitter from amazon and i hooked it up to one than one app and i could not get a clear picture. I god black and white lines and confusion on the screen. The apps i found had very low ratings. What am i doing wrong????
Hey does the app come with the camera or does it come with the transmitter? I am in the process of trying to hook up a backup camera behind one of my work vans that doesn’t have rear windows. Thanks for any help
Do you think it would be possible to install multiple camera / transmitter units for a 360 security view around motorhome?...Separate icons on screen, for separate cameras? Would they each transmit separate signals?
Hey... grate setup.... thanks!! I have a question, what happens if I need more than 1 camera? I have an 8 horse trailer and need to see what is happening there!
IF you MAKE an RCA cable where you either twist the power leads about 12 turns per foot OR use twisted pair wire (CAT-6 shielded for example), you can bridge all 4 pairs into +/- and terminate the RCA connectors. IF you use a SHIELDED cable, you MIGHT be able to connect the shields at each end, but not really necessary.... in fact.... Just use good quality CAT5/6/7 Unshielded twisted pair. Additionally or alternatively, you can put some turns of wire through torroids at each end of the cable to suppress any external interference entering the power cable (long loop antenna if not twisted pair) and then corrupting the video signal.
Ok, I found your video maybe 2 months ago and I ordered the parts you recommended and it works great! However, I'm taking it a few steps further and incorporating 2 cameras and a remote control switching system to toggle between the two cameras. I have two cameras, since my trailer is an enclosed cargo trailer, and one camera will monitor the trailer contents, and with a push of a button, I can activate the back-up camera. I got the remote system on Amazon (no surprise there, right?) that comes with two 4-button fobs and a circuit board with 2 relays and several operational options. It works beautiful too. Through the relays, I can choose which camera is feeding the 903W Wi-Fi transmitter, and I receive it on my iPhone. I recently bought a KINDLE FIRE 7 to use in the tow vehicle instead of my phone, problem is, it's Android and I need to find a way for it to accept "non-approved" software...that's the way Amazon has you by the short ones, if you know what I mean. Once I get that figured out, I can watch the inside of the trailer while I'm going down the road. Oh....I almost forgot...since I have an enclosed trailer, I also bought a 12 volt infrared illuminator that comes on with the inside camera....also the camera that's inside is not a reverse camera, but instead a "front" camera so the image doesn't look like you're looking in the mirror. Cheers!
Great Video - I have a couple of dumb questions: how do you have Wifi on the road? Am i confusing Wifi w/ wireless internet? also the 12 volt power source is not a great option for me, my lights are all recessed or fluorescent--- are there other power options? thanks in advance! Live long and prosper Mortons! I am driving across country in Sept for a new job in Ca and trying to stoke up the courage to haul my VW Vanagon behind my 23 foot class C (v. shipping it) - will be going as the only human on board,
Very good solution. I am looking for a similar for the outer rear view mirrors. in that case the challenge is feed the two videos from from the cameras on the left and right side outer wing mirrors to the display and show them side by side. Do you have any hacks for this need?
did you get this figured out? I just posted a similar question and I see your question has been out there for a year with no replies. Hook a brother up if you came up with something, and thanks!
I'm planning to install a transmitter like this one in order to use it with my iPad mini 2. This iPad is wifi/cellular. My question is: if you are connected to the transmitter wifi network, are you able to use apps that requires internet like Spotify without to turn off the wifi? Or do you have to turn off wifi in order to use cellular since the transmitter wifi does not have internet.
I think the wifi overrides the cellular. Some devices have the option to "Boost" the wifi with cellular so they both run at the same time. That might allow you to do both but i am not sure. I might have to try this at some point.
Hey, hope you can provide one more piece of info for me. How long can the camera stay on? I want to hook the power to the "key on" 12v power of my truck. Does the app also activate and deactivate the camera? Thanks
The camera in this setup is on whenever power is applied so in your case it would always come on with the key. I assume the transmitter will be connected to the same so it would always come on too. Only takes a few seconds for it to start broadcasting but if there will be times when you don't need it you may want to put it on a separate switch.
I was in search of info about backup cameras and came across your video. I noticed it was circa 2016. I also noticed it was not a permanent solution ... Have you updated or upgraded to a better solution for backup cameras? I started watching your videos about a year ago and find that you are very good ...
Thank you, Yes this was a temporary install. I still use the camera occasionally for certain things but not as a primary backup camera. we now use a Rear View Systems unit. We did a review of that one here. th-cam.com/video/JmpWTYHAvaY/w-d-xo.html
You can do this with an old phone as a camera too. No transmitter needed, no camera to buy and no power wires to run, just wi-fi hotspot to your tablet.
This will disable using the tablet for anything else like navigation etc. One could use an old phone though. One can also use IP security cameras connected to a wifi router which enables multiple cameras and can be connected to an internet source. Giving you a access to cameras and internet
Hi, I had another question for you. You might not remember me but I'm the one that hooked this up in my horse trailer so I could watch the horses while pulling them. I had used a an alternative power source when I did mine. I hooked a cigarette lighter plug on my power cord and was using a jump starter box I picked up at Walmart to pet mine which worked great as long as I remembered to charge the jump starter box. Anyway I want to do what you did and wire it directly into my trailers wiring with that power cord the Wi-Fi transmitter came with. I want to hook it into the running lights on the horse trailer, but that's a single wire. When I strip the power cord it has two wires inside a black and a red. Can you tell me how to do this? I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with two wires when I want to splice it into a single wire, being my running lights. Any thoughts?
I looked in the horse trailer and I also have a light I can hook into. But I still have the same problem. There is only one wire inside that light, so I still don't know what to do with the red and black one that is inside that power cord that came with the wifi unit
could you by chance share which cigarette lighter plug you used to connect to the transmitter/camera? I am trying to hook this up the back of my boat/trailer and I have a cigarette/12v outlet and a USB outlet I can use just not sure which adapters i need. Thanks.
@@joshm8015 Mortons video helped me so much! It worked great! This is the cigarette plug I used. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016LG0CY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Here is the link to my setup using the cigarette plug. th-cam.com/video/p6ZWOJY2gQI/w-d-xo.html
Great video, great solution. I drive a tuck in Australia and have been looking for a solution when hooking up my trailers to save time. My rig with the 4 trailers attached is 196 feet long id be keen if you could send me a solution to setting something up like this. would probably need a few more transmitters to bunnyhop the signal from 1 trailer to the other and could draw the power source from the trailer plug.
Can I use any backup camera to do this? You said you download the app that comes with the camera, "well tells you where to go get it and download it". So what I'm asking, was the camera you used, specifically one that talked about coming with an app to download? Or is there just a common app that any camera can use for this purpose? Sorry to sound stupid but I'm a bit confused, lol. I have been looking at several on Amazon and wanted one with night vision. I'm wanting to use this in my horse trailer to keep an eye on the horses while traveling. I had pretty much decided on setting up, I guess an analog system, till I found your video.
I think you would be much happier with the digital system.... Yes you can use any camera with an RCA output with that transmitter. I really should have talked about the app more, but it is specific to the transmitter not the camera. Search for WIFIAV in the app store for the App. I used an Ipad but i think its available for android as well. I never had a camera for hauling horses but that is a great idea! especially with night-vision!
Oh ok, so it is the transmitter that uses of the app! I looked for it but had it typed in wrong, I hadn't put it all together in caps till you posted this reply, that made the difference! :) Thanks so much!! I seriously spent the whole day in misery on the internet trying to find the best system, whilst saving the most amount of money lol. And I was admittedly clueless as to what was the best till I viewed, read about, and compared most every product on Amazon, and watched countless videos! Yes countless, lol. Yours was by far the best and most informative information I found! I was just about ready to order the, Yada digital wireless backup camera, as it was the best price I could find on a digital one, but I still didn't want to spend $129. for it. When you have horses you have to find shortcuts. They eat you out of house and home, lol. Seriously, thanks for posting the video, and getting back to me with that information! I'm going to order that and install it right away!
Can you clarify one thing for me? If the transmitter and the camera are close together, do I only need to run a power line to one, the camera? But if I put the transmitter further away like you did, then I would need to run a power line to it too then, correct?
Yes that is correct, I believe you can get RCA extenders that also have the power connector extender with it as well but its probably just as easy to run a 12V wire.
Thanks for watching! The links are in the notes below the video. Just click on "show more" and you'll see the Amazon links to the camera and other parts.
Quick question. Say you have service on your ipad (3g or whatever), does linking up wifi to the camera keep you from using the 3g service on the ipad, similar to linking your phone to a dead wifi network? Hope this makes sense to you but its something id like to clear up before i order. I would like to be able to still use internet while linked to the camera! Thanks!
How exactly do you hook up the wires to the light in the RV? I have all the parts otherwise but need to know how to hook up the red and black wires, please help me as we are leaving today for vacation. Thank you for your time. My light in RV has only black wires.
You will need a multimeter, test the check the voltage, if its positive the red lead is positive wire, it its negative it will be the negative wire. Then splice into them and connect to the camera.
I bought the newer model 903s. When hooked up the link light blinks, does not stay solid. Can't get it to link to my iPhone 10x wifi. What am I doing wrong. Thoughts it was a bad transmitter. Bought new on but it does the same. Any advice from anyone who had this problem and solved it?
Question: I want to mount on my boat trailer to guide my boat onto the bunks quickly. I also want to install one looking at the boat wench to make sure I have proper contact for the boat to the trailer- can you, or how do you install multiple cameras?
The transmitter does nothing more than transmit the wireless RCA AV signal. Thus the only way to have more than one image displayed would be to use some pre-processing. You could either use an AV switcher with remote to switch between cameras amzn.to/2gQJXUL, or some sort of surveillance system PIP processor to do this. A brief search and I did not find much that would do that but something like this would work well..... If you could find one in the US. global.rakuten.com/en/store/ukachi/item/av-00005-2/
I set this wifi transmitter and hooked it up to my factory backup camera on my 2015 mustang. But the video is really static, how do I fix that? Thanks in advance
Thanks for letting us know! I am sure others watching this will be happy to hear it worked for you too. I am always happy to share a trick like this!
Great to hear!
Glad it helped you out!
It's been awhile. Are you still using the same setup? Is there something new you'd take a look at? Thanks for the help!
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thanks!
I purchased the same items as you for my 1988 Ford e150 conversion van I use for hauling my Harley, it worked like a Charm!! Thank you.
You have helped me to inexpensively solve the problem of backing up in my bus. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Richard Crane how did you hook up the red and black wires to your light? I have only one black wire in the light.
Did you get this setup working on your airstream? I'll be doing similar and am unsure that the aluminum will interfere with signal
Great video, my fifthwheel is 40' long. Do you think they make a power supply/rca extension that long?
Quick question I’m thinking about putting this in my old school and I am using my iPad as my cars head unit is there away 2 retain my 4G internet connection this way I can listen 2 music from TH-cam while driving.
Just installed this set up in our 36' fifth wheel. Works great! Thanks
Glad to hear it!
Thank you! I used your affiliate link, got it as it came today. You’re a great scientist and teacher. Thx for sharing.
That would be a neat setup if you have it already!
Mortons on the Move Funny story as I was just trying out the coax- it doesn't work through coax using the rca to coax adapters. Joke's on me.
Was thinking of using my Iphone too. How did it work for you?
The WiFi viewer should have a mirror function
Can this be set up where the power is sent when the reverse light comes on, or do you have to witch the transmitter on and off every time?
Curious if you’ve had any reliability issues with the WiFi unit you mention in this video. I bought one in September based on your video. I used it twice as a back up camera while hooking the truck to the fifth wheel. Went to use it last week and can’t get a signal from the WiFi unit.
Thanks for idea, just one tiny problem, I just searched the transmitter you mentioned on Amazon. It is now $135 😢
Great video!
Is it still working? How did it perform over time?
Do you know if there is a multiple camera adapter for about 4 cameras rather then just one
I have the same question. Have you ever found the answer? Thanks
Its convenient for adding a wireless camera that stays on but I would probably look at a different option for that use case, maybe wired.
there is an app on the Play Store that allows you to connect two phones (your old one to your new one) together called "IP Webcam" and if the distance is to far,
you can use a usb powered wifi extender (xiaomi wifi repeater 2)and do all of this crisp clear and cordless and reuse your old tech for security or observation or anything.
This is awesome. Can the power source be tapped into a brake light to be activated only when the reverse engaged??
you don't want to tap it into the brake light, tap it into the backup light so it operates when the car is in reverse.
That's brilliant, I going to get this for my boat behind my rv setup asap. Thanks
Thank you Tom. I executed your suggestion and touchdown, we have a mobile backup Camera. Love it. Thank you
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful!
Hey -- nice Glaspar G3! I had an older 1960 model with a white 6 cylinder Merc 70 -- fun boat.
I also enjoyed the video idea, very good!
The WiFi is generated by the camera.
Fantastic video, thanks from the UK - will be having a go with this for my caravan
Thank you!
Nice detail. Where we travel wifi and cell signals are not often great. How much bandwidth do you think
would be a minimum for reliable service on this system?
Thx
This setup does not require an internet or cell signal. It creates its own wifi network. Wifi is just a digital wireless signal can be used really for whatever. It's just usually used for Internet. In this case the transmitter uses it for video. This unit will work anywhere in the world.
Thanks, good info!
Thx for your speedy response.
Will any type camera work as long as it has a video out? (yellow) and a power in (red)?
Looking at one for fitting in a licence plate frame.
Yes any analog video out camera will work. That is one with an RCA plug.
One thing I noticed, did you use Milenium math? To me $38.00 + $20.00 is $58.00. LOL! not under fifty dollars. Great idea nonetheless.
I have the same question.
Hey... grate setup....
Cheers!
Fantastic! Had been looking for a cost effective solution for months. Good solution. Ordered all items today...
I am driving across country in Sept for a new job in Ca and trying to stoke up the courage to haul my VW Vanagon behind my 23 foot class C (v. shipping it) - will be going as the only human on board,
Thanks! Yea no internet is required, it's just the wifi radio it uses to transmit the video.
Any camera with that output would work. A higher resolution camera as an example?
Can multiple cameras be hooked up this way?
Very good solution. I am looking for a similar for the outer rear view mirrors. in that case the challenge is feed the two videos from from the cameras on the left and right side outer wing mirrors to the display and show them side by side. Do you have any hacks for this need?
did you get this figured out? I just posted a similar question and I see your question has been out there for a year with no replies. Hook a brother up if you came up with something, and thanks!
What if my Android tablet does not have internet??? Can it communicate with camera. Please advise
which camera is best and easiest touse with iPad to make better quality videos?
Is it possible to add two cameras one for front and one for rear and be able to view on ipad at the same time?
You back that rig up!!! Holy Cow!! Great idea on the camera.
does it work in a spot that has no wifi like the middle of a forrest?
You can do this with an old phone as a camera too. No transmitter needed, no camera to buy and no power wires to run, just wi-fi hotspot to your tablet.
how do you do this?
@@RoyalWulfje, for Android is called IP Webcam on playstore. It allows you to set up an old phone as an ip camera
Is it easy to install in any car??
If i have an ipad with cellular or a phone and connect to the wifi of the camera can i still use the 4G internet from my data plan?
What do you do about using this at night? Do you have to use another type of camera that is night vision?
the camera claims to have night vision but the quality is really poor and the picture is grainy. i'm looking for a better camera now.
I have issues backing up my boat this looks like what I’m looking for do provide links to purchase
Thanks!
Dont think so... Only way is to hard wire the camera to the smartphone... then your WI-Fi is available
Do you know if you can use more than 1 camera on the app? I want to put one inside and one outside...
Does a heart mean yes?
