But even just knowing that there's ocean and not having to waste time skirting the shore also helps finding more ruins

Getting the map thing from a ruin in civ 5 is like trick or treating as a kid and getting dental floss.
Haha, my friends and I always joked about the barbarian map and how useless it was.
Go Shoshone and you choose what you get from them.
Barbarian camps is the worst one though. At least the map can show you where other ruins are.
The map always seems to just reveal useless ocean tiles for me
Unless it gives more ruin locations. I got a map that gave me 3 different ruins at one point. Was fucking awesome.

Salt start with a Turn 0 vision on a Petra expand might go worker, shrine, settler at pop three then queue//buy a scout into a GL, or some variation of that.

And thus began the five thousand year long grudge between Greece and Rome, and it only got worse when Rome rushed the Hanging Gardens and finished it when Greece was only like two turns away from getting it.
I mean who even does that? And now not only had Greece wasted like a dozen turns doing nothing but all they got out of it was like a couple of hundred gold. Talk about disappointing. In the old games you would've gotten to pick a minor building to get in like one turn instead but not any more.
But Greece got even a few hundred years later when they 'rescued' a Roman worker from a barbarian and they totally didn't give it back. Ha!
Then of course near the turn of the Common Era, Rome had rushed trebuchets and managed to steal Sparta from Greece in a dirty surprise attack. And they totally renamed it after a sex move too just really turn the knife while they were at it. And that war lasted for like the next fifteen hundred years or so.
Then they both got nuked by Ghandi.
I burned Persepolis to the ground when Darius did that shit.

I think I lost 30 units just to conquer that.

Reminds me of the time when I was playing as Germany and both Rome and Greece declared war on me at the same time, like 30-40 turns after the game just started... Of course they turned on each other after three turns and, long story short, I ended up owning about seven cities and wiping out two civilization before even entering the classical era.

Athens has power lines yet they have primitive scouts.

I really love it when I have an experienced Scout (read: heals while doing things) get turned into an Archer, because now I have an archer that can heal every turn, and more importantly, be upgraded into a really OP military unit.
Let's settle this diplomatically. Said no one ever.
You guys need to make ongoing series'. I mean, I would love to see how the England/Venice/Russia/Byzantine empire/Egypt/Ottoman alliance deals with ghandi. Perhaps the ongoing adventures of these two scouts would be cool...

That's a pretty heavy accusation, where's your evidence?

They could haved killed the guy for EVIDENCE OF BARBARIAN ENCAMPMENTS THEY ALREADY FOUND.
Also, hostile villages. I miss those in Civ IV. (Then again, scouts never get this)

I did like that little detail, after he turned around to look at the ruins and said "Huh, it's gone"
The little tune that plays when you find ruins is one of my favourite bits of Civ 5. I may have to install a mod for Civ 6 that brings it back for tribal villages.
No mention of the Shoshone? :P

Good cinematography, good dialogue, good music/SFX, and excellent performance by the scouts. Love that you pointed out that the existence of ruins doesn't make sense.
I liked it, but on a re-watch I notice that Kyle throws the map behind him, yet it is on his body when the other scouts, pick it up. But great video and humour, really captured the essence of Ancient Ruins.
He didn't throw the map behind him. It went straight up and then down again, and so would have landed on him.
