Not my favorite corps but in my top 3. I thought they should have won last year--they would have been the third corps to get a three-peat championship. That being the case, this year they would have been the first corps to get a four-peat
Alec Ryan this is actually a comment I’d take seriously for once (unlike a lot of these comments on memes and stuff) I’d want to die seeing/ hearing something beautiful.
12:40 God that ending is so sexy.... Silence for a few seconds...then the announcer says their name and everybody starts freaking out for the final chord...goosebumps everytime
My only question is: How does someone come up with all this?? I mean arranging every single instrument of this entire piece is one thing but actually coming up with the movements for every player and performer....incredible
There's one thing that I can't f*cking stand about this performance. Its that I wasn't able to see it in person. This is _the_ *most spectacular* DCI performance I've ever seen/heard
Aaron Anderson I was an ignorant asshole saying that scv should have won without watching Metamorph, then I took my time to watch this and I realized I was wrong, this show is way too espectacular and perfect, I'm out of words.
Was right in the front row of the 45 during finals and the encore, what an amazing experience, out of all my years of going to finals this show really got me
Watching this run of the show literally since it came out, at least 3 times a week till today, I can honestly say I've figured out why people don't like BD. Simply speaking: because they're always "pompous and braggy", even this show I must admit was them basically saying "we've been around forever, we're gonna stay that way". But the thing is, they are that way because yeah, they win all the time, they've had so much media coverage from a 14 yo snare player, to being a subject of a tv show. The truth is though, they get stuff like that because they're such a masterful group of performers, and they deserve every medal they get. Watch the guard, the foot timing, anything you want, and you'll see it nearly perfectly in sync. So cheers to BD, your personality as a corps suits your capability. Personally, I don't like all their shows, but youd have to be insane to not love this one.
Rastafox if you are good it’s completely fine to be pompous and Braggy, they deliver and they are masters at their craft, it’s what they do and I don’t understand why people take issue with it. Music and performance in and off themselves are selfish endeavors, the goal is to create art that people love and in competitive marching, you are bettering yourself and your band to be the best.
Yes, I am one of those individuals who feel BD gets a leg up each year on scores based on prior years performances. Having said that, when I watched this show with some friends, my prediction was that BD would finish 0.5 pts ahead of SCV, based primarily on their music score (which I felt connected with the fans much more than SCV's program), but the final result turned out to be 0.93 points difference. Personally, I felt SCV was a much more technically challenging and cleaner show than BD. My friends thought SCV would overtake BD, but I did not agree. In the end, BD pulled off a stunning program, and the only BD show that I continually listen to on a regular basis.
1:14. This show lampoons the Blue Devils early performances where the flugel horn soloist can't finish the last note of his short phrase without taking a breath. And 1:01 marchers in the rear front halt by mistake, and run to catch up to the line. These are the nuances of this brilliant design team. The show begins with thinly arranged music and simple rifle spins and ends with a complete transformation into a sophisticated performing company with depth and finesse. Brilliant.
I hope you do! This is incredibly difficult. And anything worth its salt is pretty damn difficult. Excellence is worth the blood sweat and tears required. Go for it Shade!!
7:40 crazy goosebumps. Not only was it the emotion and music coming from the ensemble but the people on ground and in the seats reactions to it. Best ballad this year for sure.
Note the butterfly larvae at 1:36 in full length white dance bags. Later the flags have a butterfly wing design, the Flight of the Bumblebee, all part of the theme of transformation and taking flight.
Jesu Spectre I didn't take a second to look for any theme or story to the show. I just love listening to it and watching the amount of energy out on the field
I love victory runs! They let those who have worked the hardest perform their show, "one last time" and gives them the spine-tingling, bone-rattling "eargasm" that was that show! You can tell those kids had so much raw emotion in them on that run.
Ever since I was a kid I have been a huge blue devils fan, I remember watching videos of Brandon Olander at age 12, dreaming to grow up to be a prodigy like him, i practiced my tail off and succeeded. I have an very strong emotional connection to this show as it was the very first BD show I saw live, a truly incredible show. We sat right where the ballads big hit was staged and I remember being speachless, every time I look back at this video I get choked up as it represents my dreams, I love what you guys do and how you do it. Continue to be the best in the world, blue devils
Tbh... Blue Devils are not my favorite Drum Corp. I feel like they are so overrated sometimes.. but this...this performance legit brought tears to my eyes. Great show Blue Devils! Absolutely phenomenal!
I was a drum major and I am so proud to see these bands perform...this is what a marching band field show should be. Out of this world. Blood, sweat, and tears of hard work and extreme team work...
12:10 is undeniably my favorite part of this performance. I've watched this so many times and have shamelessly forced it onto my family and friends (😂) and every time, it brought me to tears.
6:30 - 6:56 I never noticed it before until I got a good pair of headphones. This entire solo is happening at the same time as the basses in the back. Even the hand to hands around 6:50. This is freaking nuts.
Justin Rios Get comcast my dads like a manager of the east coast or something one of them we get really high speed internet for free. But Comcast is good.
Jerry Seawright... Legend... La Suerte de Los Tontos... the off the line.. the drums and bells... the classic Blue Devils color palette (with an obviously modern twist) and finally... the Pegasus wings. Take all of that and add to it a group of performers that were insanely talented and worked their asses off, and CLEARLY understood the show, and all it's intricacies... There was NO way this show wasn't gonna win this year.
I remember watching this live, I'm somewhere down there near the 35 yard line on the right hand side of this video. The energy of the music at 7:50 in person is indescribable, we were right in front of them. Crazy to think about looking back years later. I pray I am lucky enough to experience that feeling again one day.
You know your a true blue devils fan when you play this exact performance and know every single part by heart lol i was jamming to this and doing the dishes i was glad no one walked in bc i looked like i was straight out of a kids cartoon but i love this performance so much and i hope i can eventually play for the blue devils💙🖤🤍
That last 2 minutes, capped with Jerry Seawright (I think) saying, "Concord Blue Devils" tears me up with the greatest sense of Blue Devil pride I will take to my grave. And my marching years were 24 years before this.
My biggest regret is not seeing this masterpiece in person. The sheer energy just from a recording of this show is most likely amplified in person. Plus, I’d be able to hear the pit percussion, as Tran is an absolute legend. He is always full of energy when he plays. I am also in pit percussion, and am nowhere near that level, but I hope to someday be on the same level as him when I get a little older. Ever since this recording came out, I watched it religiously. It’s one of the few videos that brings me to tears every time I watch it. Thank you for uploading it in such quality. I am forever grateful. 💖💖
my god, that drumline feature gave me chills. Also, 7:48 . 'Nuff said. Feel like that should have been the closer, but my god, that made me shake. Had an opportunity to go to Drums along the Rockies and see this show, but I had to give it up for a family trip. I would have given up Paris and London to see this.
That was worth watch 2+ years later. As much as they continue to improve year over, this is a signature performance for the Concord Blue Devils. Their alumni would be proud to have witnessed just how great the corps has gotten.
I listened to the generated recording of the entire show couldn't believe some of the stuff I heard. Didn't think anyone could ever pull that off but the blue devils do it here flawlessly. I used to be in marching band and am completely amazed at this performance. Fn awesome guys everyone did great work to bring this show about
So Defiant Heart and Club Blue had my heart for 20 years as the best year of DCI but we drove up last season and this show is so sick. My new favorite part is at 4:40 when they do that super high run and you just hear a dude laughing his ass off at how ridiculous that was. I was on the right side 40 and I was cackling like a schoolboy at that moment. And let’s not forget the rifle line. I love this show so much and I’m pretty sure I’ve watched it every weekend since we got home from that trip.
Damn man, Just when you think the entire band's at triple forte, they pull out all the stops and get even louder. Even in the high notes. This is crazy good
Wow. I was rooting for the red team in '17. But, damn that worked really well. congrats again. Looking forward to getting it all started again next month. Great video Mr camera man
From the trombone solo around 6:25 to 8:25 is agreeable the best part of the whole show. You can here the passion in there music and way the guard kinda distracts you as the horn line and battery slowly make there way to be all together to have a great impact point just amazing.
My favorite part is from 0:00 to about 6:00 I've listened to it so many times and studied the music so much I know all that part on my baritone of course the euphionum parts but sadly I can only do the baritone 2nd part
I graduated high school 10 years ago and I'm so thankful for the lessons learned and discipline music/marching band instilled in me. Winning is great but that's what it's really about and I didn't understand that until years after I left.
Wow, wow, wow! What a phenomenal show! May well be the best post-93 Blue Devils show ever, especially musically! 18! Thanks for the video! Never get tired of that show!
I usually don't care for BD shows (although I definitely have an appreciation for them), but this one is so great. Held my attention the entire show- great job BD!
is so cool to watch the go pro footage of the different instruments and then watch this because i have a good idea of where those people who had cameras were at. so cool!
Watching this on high cam really shows you why they won. Great show
Not my favorite corps but in my top 3. I thought they should have won last year--they would have been the third corps to get a three-peat championship. That being the case, this year they would have been the first corps to get a four-peat
Some shows just seem to write themselves. This was one of em.
I honestly hated the show when I saw it in person. Looks a lot better now.
BD has several almost 3-peats... but they have always won the year following a missed 3-peat!
Personally, I enjoyed SCV's show more, but I can definitely see why BD won.
Just imagine joining the blue devils in 2014 and 2017 being your last year. My goodness, what a time to be alive.

11:07 - 11:28 the drum major in the back just going ham to get to the front
11:16 Look at the Contras on the left. They are having way to much fun lmaoo
