    If you have a quill stem can you buy a new Modern stem and put it on a bike that had a quill stem?

    Simpler question, can ya swap from threadless back to threaded just by changing the forks and gooseneck?

    I like the old one, I can make stem higher for comfortable riding 😁

    Can you put old school forks on a more modern frame that had bigger forks diameter if I swap the old school forks too?
    Aka are the bearings the same size etc for a straight swap?
    Cheers

      The bearings aren’t the same size for the swap. You would need some kind of bearing cup reducer for it. If it’s set up intergraded (no bearing cups) there might not be any way to do it.

    Can i use a modern stem for my old fork?

  • @archiernavales8303
    @archiernavales8303 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Its depends on frame?

    • @assortedproductions6083
      @assortedproductions6083  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Partly, yes. You can’t put a 1-1/8” fork in frame that takes a 1” fork. Yet, you can put a 1” fork through a frame that takes a 1-1/8” fork via headset adapters.

    I bought a modern stem for a bike with a old school stem would i be able to put the modern stem on or not?

    • @assortedproductions6083
      @assortedproductions6083  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely not. A modern stem is meant for a thread-less steer tube 1-1/8 in diameter. The modern stem will be too big for the steer tube.

    Is there a way for me to install a gyro systen on my bike with the quill stem? Please help, I don't know how to do it aha

    • @assortedproductions6083
      @assortedproductions6083  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to get a gyro for a one inch threaded fork. There is some TH-cam videos on how to install them. I might end up making one eventually.

    Hi you know how older bmx have the shaft /tube thing can it be removed?

    • @assortedproductions6083
      @assortedproductions6083  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depending on the stem it sometimes can be. There was some companies that put out a couple like that in the eighties, but they were rare sight.

    Can you use a quill stem with newer forks and vis versa?

    • @assortedproductions6083
      @assortedproductions6083  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      New forks are not threaded, so if you used a quill stem in it there would be no way to hold the fork from falling out. Plus most new forks have the star bolt welded into the fork so there would be now way of even getting a quill down it.

    Quill stems are stronger and easier to work with actually I've snapped theadless forks and bent the stem as for threaded I've never bent broke or had any problems with them except having a loose stem but I bailed on a 30 ft drop and it landed on the bars and still run that stem and it snapped the right side of the bars clean off and folded the seatpost but the stem is perfectly fine I've landed sideways with threadless and broke the fork at the top if anything the threadless is lighter by a few ounces

    • @assortedproductions6083
      @assortedproductions6083  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't really know the cause for the push for threadless forks. I've noticed with heavy front end movement the tend to come lose. I have not had that issue with a threaded fork. Not even once.

    • @assortedproductions6083
      @assortedproductions6083  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many things can cause that. I’d star at with tightening it up.

      Tighten it up and a dab of Blue loctite. It fixed the profile stem wobble on my Super Goose.

      @lmviewcast6320 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't look super new but it is to new to be a bike from the 90s or early 2000s

    • @assortedproductions6083
      @assortedproductions6083  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you have a front load stem. You should be able to remove your bars though. I would need a visual to help you out.
