Old school bikes definitely had more personality. All bikes now look the same.. but they are way better. Most old school bikes I see have a yard stick for a seat post and the handlebars are so far forward your chest is above the front tire lol
I'm 39 and getting my 10 year old into BMX... Things have definitely changed since cruising my GT Interceptor in the early 90's. This video made allot of sense and was clear. Thanks for the videos.
Yeah same with mountain bikes. They keep changing standards and new tech constantly (tapered head tubes for example limit your fork choice if you have an old bike). You buy a bike as an upgrade platform and in 10 years, newer parts become incompatible.
I just purchased a 20 in Fat Tire folding e bike, I've been researching and looking up stuff ,this brings back such awesome memories, I'm 53 me and my best buds were so into BMX in our teens, we had Diamondback supergoose mongoose GT Redline it was awesome ! even the parts we used to have I'm starting to remember again I just ordered a pair of odi mushroom grips for my new bike and a laid-back seatpost, 80s BMX ... nothing was better, I'm really interested what the new school is looking like as far as BMX . I can't do it anymore but I love to watch it awesome fun guys

Mod up or loose out boy on the old school. Easy as mate. Just tell everyone the truth. I put 990 mount on my xxl robinson and re chromed it at 17. Was easy to do. Just my time and electro plating. But man it worked so well and like a dime to stop. Also upgrade the robinson dropouts to 8mm for racing and dirtbiking. Re chromed again and was the best bike with balance I've ever riden.
Used to ride OS & midschool bmx since 1997. I have a GT freestyle pro & Kuwahara Bravo back in the days. Started using newschool bike last year. Game changer! 🤘🏼🔥
this is so timely for me wow. i have a '97 gt mach one that i decided not to "rebuild." it has a bunt crank among other issue buts it's actually ridable. instead a bought a brand new sunday and couldn't be happier!

Hey Alfredo I bought a mongoose Cali special repop out of the box it was pretty easy to assemble but I stuck with the diaconpe Mx brakes my rear brake only one side moves when I press the lever the other side seems to be stuck and won’t move, I’ve played around with it but just can’t figure it out A video on the new repop diacompe brakes would be cool Cheers Silas
I built mix school bikes since 06.. there are 7/8" pivotal posts out. Conversion HS 's are easily made. New GT hubs have 3/8" axles, 2.1 tires fit OS frames. I run all 1.85s on all my bikes.
Super dope video idea. I had pit Bull2 breaks, shark bite pedals, cook 3 piece cranks and the same handle bars on my Elf double up frame with matching forks. However the execution of the video was a little to busy, too fast. Good info on a great video but slow it down some.
You can actually use a 1 1/8” fork on a old school 1” frame . It takes mix and matching headset parts and free balling the bearings. I ve done several times works just fine. Let me know if you want pics. I just built a 1978 mongoose with SE landing gear threadless forks. It works like a dream bro.
I had a 2001 Gt Dyno VFR with one piece cranks. I didn’t know at the time that one piece cranks have 1/2 inch pedals so when I bought 9/16 odyssey pedals I had to switch out the spindles to make them fit.

I havent rode bmx sense mid 90s I had some really nice bikes my baby was a 91,92,_94 gt pro performer tour with crash dummies decals hade crank hard for grinding and every thing then I hade mongoose expert black with all the pads that was my bmx and freestyle bikes and I hade a few more that weren't as treasured to me if I could find my gt and expert I'd love it I left them some where as I got into girls and high school some where
@@robertlund5694 i have a 2002 gt tour 2, i actually ground them to take 14mm axles.But their seriously an inch thick so no worries of stressing the frame.
Over the years BMX has changed from 1" steerer to 1" 1/8 and tube sizes have changed on frames and back ends of frames have got shorter from 14" to 13" to 12" back ends and BB has changed from American BB to Mid BB's

Phu Do you sell 14 mil axels slotted to 3/8s? Thats what i use on all my old bikes that have 3/8s front and back. the only 3/8s I have is on my Schwinn orange crate and my apple crate.

I converted my 1979 Schwinn 36-36 from threaded to threadles forks... of course I had to trim the inside of the bearing cups usings a dremel... Very very close fit btw !.. also had to do away with the bearing casings (tins) and straight run the bearings... if you've went this far, USE THE BEST HIGH GRADED GREASE YOU CAN FIND to make it last as long as possible. PS: Water Resisitant Grease Is The Way To Go ! Don't Be CHEAP Buy The Good Shit .!.. =_=
Only thing i haven't found is a sealed bearing hub on the 1 inch to work with a gen 1 gyro so far. Tell me if someone has done it. I will buy that and tell everyone to buy it
Could you put a 20x2.1 on the Robinson and change the width on rim by a little with a double sided hub with a 3/8 axle with a 13t on one side 16t on the other and put a 39t sprocket.

i had a 84 diamondback formula 1, best bike i ever rode, it was so fast.
There's now lots of connectors and adapters for all parts new school or old school for any bike
You can move to slotted axles to make new school rims to fit old school bikes if you get the proper slot size.

I found an 85 MCS styler frame in my garbage truck. Got anything for one of those? I really need a full crankset and rear freewheel.

Hey have to say profile do a hub axle in titanium and cromoly to 10mm/38 from the 14 mm. Maybe for thier hubs but i haven't checked to other hubs

They make 14mm flat to fit in 3/8 drop outs. I rode like that for years till i got a newer bike

I have a question about that 1" to 1-1/8" converter. Does it have a hollow allen bolt down the middle to run the front brake cable?
Most or all of those adapters are made from aluminum, and would not survive for more than a few minutes if you plan to do any aggressive riding.
