This was a godsend. This video really helped guide me through this. No joke, I was super nervous about doing this. I had never removed the intake manifold and it wasn't easy either. Those clips are super tough to access and loosen. But I did it and just test drove the car. I did almost have a heart attach when I started the car - I got a bunch of 4x4! torque; limp mode; chassis stabilization errors. But I think those were just part of the system restarting after having had the battery disconnected. They went away and I also no longer have the yellow check engine light. It was tormenting me. Thanks again!!!
I have 130k on my stock glow plugs and module, the x5d was in Arizona it’s whole life but I’ll be doing this shortly for preventative maintenance. Thanks for the video help!
My X5D starts to show glow plugs sign each time I start the car. She’s at 112k miles and it’s about time for me to replace them and others on the way....Thank you so much for uploading this video!
The most difficult part is the electrical connector at the back of the air inlet manifold. None of the videos really show how to get this off - the tab is facing inward, with very little room to manipulate it. Mine is stuck and I can't remove the inlet manifold without getting past this connector. Lifting the loosened manifold up doesn't give mine better access to the connector. Not sure what to do next.
My X5d check engine light was on, and the car service checked that only glow plug was failed. But they recommended me replacing all six and charged me total 1300. Is it reasonable?
@@L8R-HP control module charged another 300😅😅 my BMW 2013 car and 130000 miles, I can’t throw it away, so I have to pay. Hopefully it can last another ten years
Thanks for your nice video. I am about to do the same for my BMW. Although the glow plugs were changed by mechanic 2 years ago but they still throw the code. I just was wondering whether you used BMW genuine gaskets or aftermarket? I also would like to ask whether faulty glow plug affects DPF regeneration. Thanks.
Hello l have a question that is real diesel l mean you put diesel on fuel l know can put turbo diesel no matter what gas oh diesel but turbo only but what about fuel what you put on diesel oh gas
I have 150k miles on my 35d x5. The glow plugs were changed at 110k but not the module. I’m getting the module error. Do need new glow plugs at this time? Or should I because the intake is off for the module anyway?
Hey man Im actually replacing the module right now, what are the torque specs for the 3 bolts on that coolant line? Did you end up replacing that rubber gasket too?
I have the 49A6 code. Along with transmission fault, DSC xdrive failure. All came on the same time. And since they came on the car won't start. Any ideas?
@@L8R-HP ok thank you. Also to mention the car just cut out while driving, even trying to jump start it, it won't even crank the engine, car just turns on but engine not turning at all? @@L8R-HP Thanks man, I did this. Put everything back together checked my pockets and have 1 screw left over🙄 Freakin coolant flange screw forgot to tighten 1 out of the 3 there and have a minor coolant leak. Gonna pull the intake off again tomorrow

Great video. I did all this on my car. Thank you. Keep making videos. You good on it. Not boring, not overwhelming. Just perfect.

How come don’t need to replace the thermostat? Usually ktemp related to bad thermostat?

Not bad. Parts are pricy. It’s best to change them all. And the glow plug module too.

hi it's nice video waht kine of scanner you used for German cars thanks
I use a lunch scanner. It works great for all makes and models
I think you should replaced swirl flaps as well, they will be the big problem in the future. But any way, great video mate.👍
Yiming Zheng I should have. Didn’t think about it. Thank you 😎

I ordered gaskets on eBay, I think they were aftermarket. I don’t think faulty glow plugs would affect dpf

Check your battery, it could be weak or needs to be replaced. After that replace your glow plugs and glow plug module. Solve one problem at a time.

It would take longer on cold starts for sure
Why did you change the coolant temp sensor? Was it throwing a code? Good video, about to do this job myself.
Yes I had a code for coolant temp sensor as well. Thank you! 😎
Very nice video , thanks a lot.

Hiya, good video! My x5 e70 engine light comes up at 30-40 mph and code says 49A6. Any help is appreciated
It’s most likely the glow plug module.
@@L8R-HP thank you. It was actually misplaced air mass! BMW costed me £480 just to find the fault and simply put the hose where it should be!

do i need to use the code reader as well?
You don’t have to, but it’s best to clear the codes after you replace parts.
i probably will have to do this along with the thermostat. doesn't look that awful

What is the torque specs on the plugs? Intake?
I believe plugs were 13 ft lbs and intake was 10 ft lbs

It’s a Launch tablet scan tool. Works great, scans any car and all modules.

Half of work day is 4 hours.

hey~ take your seat belt~^^ thanks for your informations. It is so nice.
Puts “torque to spec” without bothering to share said spec and then proceeds to tighten it by hand without a torque wrench. Can’t make this stuff up.
It’s torqued to my spec 💪
If you cant manage to put two small bolts in without stripping them you probably shouldnt be doing this job lol. The torque spec is gudentite
