Through ups and downs especially the horrible lockdowns during the pandemic, you are still stuck with Vietnam, which is pretty amazing. Personally, I always believe Vietnam is a great country to live in. The cost of living is low, the inflation is low, the healthcare system is now much better, Vietnam is much more socially, politically and economically stable than many countries in the world particularly in Asia. Just look at the bloody mess in Thailand last week, the human trafficking problems in Cambodia and the current lockdowns in China! In other countries, the winter is coming up, and the natural gas prices are increasing - 6 times higher than last year! Wish I were there in Vietnam 😁

From what I have heard, the flooding in Vietnam seems to be a real challenge. Does this affect all parts of the major cities? How do you get around these challenges? I would love to find out from someone who has lived there for so long.
Hi :) I’d love to help you with your question The central of Vietnam faces a huge problem of Annual floods. Idk why that’s the case, something with the geographic of course. I think I should learn more about the underlying cause later. The North and the South almost never face this challenge. Whenever there’s flood in the centre, there will be long days of rain in the other 2 parts. At least that’s my experience living in the South. However, we have the ‘metaphorical’ flood in the South 😅 to explain, the water drainage system isn’t advanced, plus people throw out trash on the streets, so there’s usually water all over the city and thus, traffic problems. Just note that it’s not like that every day and it depends on the roads and the area in which you live. District 2 of Ho chi minh city is a popular area for expats but it’s also notorious for the flood 😂

I am an older Canadian and my university degree in psychology was acquired more than 30 years ago in the USA. I have over 20 years experience teaching a wide range of subjects such as ESL, hospitality, business management, retail management and literacy. I had a Tefl certificate about 20 years ago and I taught every level of English in Europe and the Americas. I have been working in retail for the last few years so, for me it would be starting over my teaching career. What are my options? And thank you in advance for your assistance.
You will need your original degree and TEFL certificates for work permit processing so bear that in mind. You can consider taking another TEFL course, otherwise, just make a resume highlighting your experience and start applying for jobs.
Man go some place else man. Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau or Singapore are all much better options. Better infrastructure, almost no petty theft and the westerners you meet are well normal. If you wanna chill and party in Vietnam go there on vacation. Also get certified to teach at public schools in the US before you come it should be easy to do.
@@DavidJohnson-dp4vv Yea but all those places are crazy expensive, even more so than the US, UK, Canada and you won't be living well eating good Western and local food at cheap prices in a 'teacher' salary. China and Taiwan aren;t that bad but the others are too expensive
@@janchxxheonczsekk6412 With Korea you usually get your flight, apartment and visa expenses covered. HK, Macau and Singapore are expensive but honestly it's worth it to not have deal with the bs in Vietnam. It'll also be much easier for the guy that asked to find work because they put more restrictions on getting in. Like a strict requirement on having a degree and being a native speaker (except China). Japan is a bit of a mix in the sense that for some jobs they do allow people to teach who have had most of their education done in English. It also appears that guy who asked may not be white and trust me on this he will have a much easier time in the places I listed finding a good job as a non white native speaker. It really that much easier for a non white native speaker to find a good job in the places I listed. They'll have way more choices than they would in Vietnam. In Vietnam the most likely choices are ILA, EMG, VUS, APOLLO, APAX and a few other fake corporate companies that push fake professionalism. If those are the best choices then that's a problem. The number one thing is that how true and realistic are people being about Vietnam online. The big error I made was saying he should get certified in the US since he's Canadian.
But why enjoy nice weather throughout the year with low cost of living when you can just work around the clock in Helsinki, Finland, and pay 1000 dollars for the most basic small apartment, at least 15 dollars for a meal and look at a grey sky most of the year or freeze your ass off? I don't get it.

Hey you live in Hanoi? If so my exroomie and friend of many years lives there and is a teacher. His name Nguyen Khoi Nguyen. You know him? The guy helped me out during a tough time in my life. I was in spiralling debt in 2010 residing at semi luxury apartments I couldnt afford, paying about 1.1k a month after all expenses. The full-time job i had then was grossing me only 26k a year after taxes. I was just surviving! He takes me into his mom's house and I only paid him for two years living there, 300 a month. I should've took advantage of that relief and gone back to college but both of us got caught up in partying and living life. We took some nice trips and a cruise. His mom's house was nearly all paid off so it was even affordable for him. If I could've gone back in time I would've used more of that time finishing college etc, but it was quite difficult with a full-time job.
This is a nice video, thanks for sharing. I was vacationing in Vietnam a couple weeks ago and had an amazing time. Housing and food are definitely inexpensive there, For example, my friend rented as studio in Saigon for $200 for the month and I found hotel rooks in Pleiku for as low as $6/night!
If you work as a digital nomad, the cost of living in Vietnam is very good. In fact, the job of English teacher here today requires more pedagogical skills than before.
I’m going there in two weeks and so glad that I found your video. You explained normal living there quite smoothly! May I know what restaurant I should try in District 1?
I wish Vietnam had a retirement visa. Not all of us are young computer study genius' living the digital nomad life or English teachers, (no offence intended. I love your videos and am happy for you and your life). I would like to retire in Asia, be it Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, or even the Philippines. Borders nowadays seem more exclusive, rather than inclusive.

Just basic level of Vietnamese as I've focused a lot on building up Ninja Teacher and haven't put as much time into learning as I would have liked to. I plan to put more time into studying though.
Vietnamese is EXTREMELY difficult to pronounce ,,, I speak a few hundred words only ,, Thai language is much easier . A massive challenge but can be done. The pronunciation is extremely difficult if you come from an English speaking background
10 What leads to confusion is that, this text is also called: "original texts" while it is already translated into Latin, French, English… And it is that text which was used for the translation of several versions, that text was used for the translation of William Tyndale, that text was used for the translation of King James, for the translation of the doctor of theology John Frederick Ostervald, for the translation of the reformer Martin Luther in the 16th century. They are revisions of translation. I have nothing against a faithful translation from one language to another but it is a revision of translation. Amen! I learnt that one of the fifty-four translators of King James was so good at languages that if he was there, at the tower of Babel, at the time when God confounded the languages, he would be an interpreter. You see?
Reminds me of the Philippines where I grew up. The traditional poorer local vendors surround modern sections owned by richer folk. I have earned a Bachelor’s degree here in US which I can use there. Sadly, I might disappoint the local students because I look more like them instead of a White guy. I’m glad you’re having a fun time. I’d consider Vietnam for retirement.
Partly true. You must know that English centers in Vietnam are like business. They use white teachers as a marketing tool: charging higher fees, we're serious that we have only native English speakers. If you speak English without an accent you still have chance to get a job as English teacher in Vietnam. You have to make video presentation or to come to face to face appointment to prove your unaccented pronunciation. I know a Filipino professor teaching Economics at a most privileged university in Hanoi. And another Filipino English teacher in Vietnam she makes $23 dollars per hour. She has video in TH-cam.
Thank you for the excellent video, Ninja. I've seen and heard people saying one of their main reasons for moving to Vietnam was the lower cost of living compared to their home country. However, I've also heard that nowadays prices have increased dramaticaly (the Ukrainian War notwithstanding) in a way that Hanoi and Saigon are no longer that much different in cost compared to other big European cities. Have you personally felt/witnessed this, Ninja? Thank you for your time!
Interesting video! I would have a question for you if you have time, please: do you know if it's possible to stay more than one month in Vietnam or if an E-Visa is the only option. Also, if I leave Vietnam to re-enter it, is there a minimal amount of time that I've got to stay out of the country? Thank you very much, thanks for your videos and have a great day! :D
Yeah I did 3 E-visas within a few months, and I heard of other people doing them back to back to back consecutively, just going into Cambodia and coming back into VN on the same day or next day.
Thanks for this interesting information! - What I would like to know, are there other languages besides English required to be learnt in Vietnam, such as German and Spanish....? I'm from Germany, I'm holding a TEFL diploma for teaching English (been working and traveling with the English language all my life) and I lived in Spain a few years so that my knowledge in Spanish is at least equally good as in English.
Although I am 60 years old, my wife is 50. We would love to move to Vietnam and have be an ESL teacher. She is also a degreed chiropractor, so there may be that opportunity as for her as well. I have a digital business(es) so I would continue those. Do you think we would have a shot and be welcome there? And in your NinjaTeacher class?
I can't speak for the NinjaTeacher class, but I can speak for the majority of Vietnamese that we really welcome foreigners here. It's as if the wars never happened (except against China, lol)
The bachelor’s degree is the thing I don’t have sadly… but I do know french as well as english! Hopefully I could get a teaching career in Vietnam in 2025! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Go to study in Vietnam. Maybe it is cheaper than in your country. Also you must have 3 years of experience. in some countries that schools just say you were working 3 years but then you have to legalize it at the ministry of foreign affairs of the place you have worked. In my country is not easy to do that the supervisor of my school will check if I really worked.

Hi , i am trying to apply but i cant seem to find the new website for multiple entry ? when i click on the link you provided it takes me back to the old 1
What do you think about the average salary in big city like Ha Noi, Saigon at this moment? I heard it is insanely lower compared to the living cost for a family!!
That depends on your circumstances. If you are just a couple and bringing in two ESL teacher incomes then you can live really well. If you have a child or children and want to send them to international schools, they are insanely expensively. I don't think it's realistic then unless you become a licensed teacher and work at international schools yourself (which usually lowers your children's fees significantly).
Do you need French teachers? French is my mother tongue, and I speak fluently Vietnamese and I love Saigon. I just don't know how to obtain a visa for longer than 45 days.
Hey mate, I have a question. How hard is it REALLY to teach in HCMC without a degree? I'm American and have 3 years of teaching experience in Cambodia, as well as a TEFL. As far as I can tell, I'd have to work part-time at language centers. What visa should I be looking at?
You might get Tesol to teach English and the schools will recommend you what you should get easily as long as you are English native speakers. I’m a Vietnamese living in the US ☺️
Really liked my time in Vietnam. It is a hidden gem. They also have the Avenger Tower 😊. But I always felt stressed when buying stuff there. I just felt prices were inflated 2x 3x as soon as they saw me. At one point I did not even want to buy something if there was not a written price so I could be sure most people were getting about the same. It is not just vietnam. Most of Asia behaves the same towards tourists compared to latin America but I felt it was way too much in Vietnam
what's the situation with getting visa for Vietnam? I heard it was hard. How many hours a week do you have to teach, the minimum in order to get a visa? Thanks!!
If you are from the US then you can go to any Vietnamese travel agent to buy the airline ticket and they will get a visa for you without paying any cost except for the visa fee. It will take about a week or two to get a visa when you pick up your ticket 😂

According to a chart published by International TEFL Academy they had the expected savings to be 63% more than Vietnam. However, you seem to be more than happy with Vietnam financially. Is there another side to this story?
Starting salaries in South Korea have been the same for the last 10 years with living costs having increased dramatically. You usually get free housing though so that helps. Still, if you’re in a big city the saving potential is not nearly as good as it used to be. Plus with the work culture you usually have 30+ teaching hours a week there.
What Alex said about Korea is true about salaries in Japan as well but the cost of living in Tokyo is going down There are many foreigners making 4000 to 6000 here and living on 1000 to 2000 Can save 2000 to 3000 here as easily as Japan or Korea and real estate is a better long term opportunity in Vietnam than Korea Japan Thailand or Malaysia I have bought two places in Tokyo and soon will have two in Hanoi then look to buy in Danang. Can make money from stocks or commodities from anywhere in the world. Taxes are much lower here than in Japan.

Wish I were there in Vietnam 😁
know the feeling mate.. love vn.. just waiting for those darn 3months visas to come back so I can return to my half yr in/half yr out again...
The 3 month visa are not coming because a lot of people from India, Africa and Muslims are coming in mass to work illegally. Maybe only for us citizens.during COVID they showed they are doing well without tourism. Also people from Europe with and north America with tattoo, disgusting piercing, LGTB, fat feministas with ridiculous hair style are not well seen.
This is such an interesting video. I’ve been teaching in Korea for six years now and I feel it’s time now for me to make a move to somewhere else. Thank you for the informative video
You're welcome! I think you'll enjoy it as a change from Korea.
@@ninja.teacher yes, I am currently on 38 teaching hours a week at the moment. The money is great but I think it’s time to try somewhere new before Seoul burns me out.

Thank you for coming to the country. Our beloved Vietnam. If you want to explore our country, it will take you a long time to find it all. Each dish of the 3 regions will be very different and the 4 seasons will be very different..
Love Vietnam. Have been every year for the past 9 years, unfortunately they are not issuing 3 month visas yet. Any idea when they will start? Love your videos.
No news about longer visas yet.
I'm living in Hanoi but I can admit that Saigon street food is more afordable. Hanoi is quite expensive city.
What a great video I’ve watched many TH-cam videos and this DD is one of the few I’ve watched more than once, I’ve started doing my own TH-cam video and I aspire to be half as good as you🎉
I love watching your videos and have been to Vietnam many times as we sponsor underprivileged children up there. I've often thought about teaching music to young people in Ho Chi Minh City as this is my business in New Zealand. Teaching guitar in English, combine learning Music and English in one class. From what I have heard, the flooding in Vietnam seems to be a real challenge. Does this affect all parts of the major cities? How do you get around these challenges? I would love to find out from someone who has lived there for so long.
Hi :) I’d love to help you with your question
The central of Vietnam faces a huge problem of Annual floods.
@@thuylinhnguyenly4945 Haha good old Thao Dhien the white man's part of town. They went and built an entire expat district with shiny malls and beautiful 5 star apartment blocks on a swamp!

How do I teach English to children in Vietnam?
We always live emotionally because you are familiar with or close, you always receive fun and help. Of course, society has one person but you can be assured that many Vietnam will treat you well. In particular, we never discriminate racism because since childhood we have not been sown in mind. Enjoy in VN dude
I would not say "it's cheap" and rather say "affordable and cost efficient" out of respect to the residing country. :)
I agree, that’s a better way to phrase it.
reminds me of an advise I received from my friend when I was living in Canada. He said "don't say it's cheap. But rather say it's inexpensive" 👍👍
I'm coming to teach in January 2023, not in a weird way but do you know any South Africans that I can connect with? .... well what I'm trying to say is that it would help a lot to talk to some people before I come to Vietnam.

Just do it! Worry about details as you go... life is more amazing with faith 🙂
Thank you
Next year I will move to VN for a trail period
Where would you recommend
Ha Noi
Or Saigon
I am leaning towards the South
Will see
Thank you for sharing
I personally prefer living in the South.
There are so many! Depends what you’re looking for.
@Hùng Online VTB Thanks so much for this and I can’t wait to see Vietnam. :)
Just saw your video and I thought it was very informational. I enjoy watching it from beginning to end and just sub to your channel. Good job!👍
Goverment is thinking and having plan about that.
I wish this thing happend soon
Started watching your videos as research to stay in Vietnam as part of a bigger extended trip... now I'm thinking I might just stay in Vietnam 😂 Can I just ask, after 7 years living there, how well can you speak Vietnamese? Love from Aus x
You see?

Welcome to Vietnam 💗💗💗
Wow Wer coming to Vietnam with my hubby this month
Sure the cost of living is cheap and opportunities are , it's appealing to any foreigner .
Vietnamese coffee is the best

Thank you for the excellent video, Ninja.
I've seen and heard people saying one of their main reasons for moving to Vietnam was the lower cost of living compared to their home country. However, I've also heard that nowadays prices have increased dramaticaly (the Ukrainian War notwithstanding) in a way that Hanoi and Saigon are no longer that much different in cost compared to other big European cities. Have you personally felt/witnessed this, Ninja?
Thank you for your time!
Ukraina war doesn't affect Phở, bún chả, bánh mì, beer and other food prices in Vietnam.
@@vantrinhnguyen987 That's true. I didn't mean the food specifically but rather cost of living in general, especially housing prices.
Hello. Some people are leaving because of cultural differences: people go to toilette in public places. On the streets. Is this so?
Welcome to visit our country Vietnam
Interesting video! I would have a question for you if you have time, please: do you know if it's possible to stay more than one month in Vietnam or if an E-Visa is the only option. Also, if I leave Vietnam to re-enter it, is there a minimal amount of time that I've got to stay out of the country? Thank you very much, thanks for your videos and have a great day! :D
E-visas are the only option other than working, marriage, family or investment visas. You can exit and re-enter immediately though.

Russian and Chinese
Although I am 60 years old, my wife is 50. We would love to move to Vietnam and have be an ESL teacher. She is also a degreed chiropractor, so there may be that opportunity as for her as well. I have a digital business(es) so I would continue those. Do you think we would have a shot and be welcome there? And in your NinjaTeacher class?
I can't speak for the NinjaTeacher class, but I can speak for the majority of Vietnamese that we really welcome foreigners here. It's as if the wars never happened (except against China, lol)
great videos - one thing hard to figure out maybe you know - how do you get long term visa?
The bachelor’s degree is the thing I don’t have sadly… but I do know french as well as english! Hopefully I could get a teaching career in Vietnam in 2025! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Go to study in Vietnam. Maybe it is cheaper than in your country. Also you must have 3 years of experience. in some countries that schools just say you were working 3 years but then you have to legalize it at the ministry of foreign affairs of the place you have worked. In my country is not easy to do that the supervisor of my school will check if I really worked.

No retirement visas ?
We are cool weather lovers so in SE Asia we are looking at Dalat in Vietnam, Baguio City in Philippines
A degree is requirement to get a work permit and work legally in Vietnam.

3:35 I saw you commenting on earning a really good salary in Vietnam. I am trying to decide between S Korea and Vietnam. Right now, the saving opportunities is swaying me towards S Korea.
South Korea has a higher cost of living. You might not end up doing a lot of saving if SK is your choice.
