- I show how to fix Windows Update on Windows Vista when you get the error code 80072EFE when checking for updates. There are some updates you need to install before fixing it. Below I will leave links to to what you will need. Anyways hopefully this helped if you were having this issue. If you have any questions, leave a comment below. One of the updates files I downloaded fixed my Vista 32-bit update problem. The computer I upgraded is used to access an old SCSI flatbed scanner and I haven't been able to get updates to Windows for more than 2-years! I sought technical support from very reputable sources online that had me run SFC /SCANNOW and other diagnostic programs without success. Thank you!

Julia, thank you for sharing this video, I’m taking a CIS class at one of the community colleges here in the SF Bay Area and our Mid-Term assignment is learning how to update Windows Vista, then upgrade to Windows 7 and updating that OS. I have a few Vista virtual machines and 1 desktop that I have running Vista with only SP1. I will try to update to SP2 and if it works, I will try to follow this video also on my VMs. Thanks for the vid. Trying to fix this for a while. :)

@ Oh ok thanks I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 dv6308nr it came with windows vista home premium and when I install sp2 idk why but the network adapter just disappears from everything.

222 Updates? Looks Like Your Old Computer Has Not Been Updated In A Very Long Time! But It Worked For Me!

IT WORKS!! although I need a WiFi adapter..
I upgraded to windows vista SP2 and now for some strange reason the HP PAVILION DV6000 Doesn’t want to detect the WiFi adapter anymore. Il try downgrading back to SP1 and see if it solves the issue.
When I tried opening wumt, I got an error saying "Exception EReadError in module wumt_x64.exe at 00000000001233B2. Error reading EditFilter.StyleLookup: Cannot create texture for 'TCanvasD2D'." Also "windows6.0-kb4015380-x64" got an error when I tried to install it saying "This update does not apply to your system" I tried multiple downloads of wumt other than yours and they didn't work ether. I made sure I was using Windows Vista SP2 btw.

Hey I appreciate this post I just found my old vista PC and did a fresh install. I did the steps listed in this video but I'm stuck on installing the window6.0-kb exe's it says that this update does not apply for your system.
It might be what OS bit version you are using. To see it, open your start menu, right click on Computer, click properties, and If it is 32 bit then download the x86 files. If it is 64 bit, then download the x64 files.

Hello, thank you for the video. I have managed to get to the updates bu now the update is stuck at 3 of 3 100%. I tried to boot it in safe mode but it's no use. Is there a workaround?
You're welcome! I recommend doing around 50 updates at a time, doing all at once can take some time!

I actually love windows vista as it has many awesome features. Unlike win 7 but I do kinda like win 7. And I definitely hate win 10 as it sucks & there's no fun in win 10.

Yes it worked; but when I tried it the first time a resived a error 0x80244010 instead. (after a while)
Then I renamned %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and tried it again, and it went back to error 80072EFE; but after rerun wsus.reg it worked.
