My Weight Loss Journey-How I Lost 70 Pounds-Women Over 60

  • Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a wonderful day. Recently I’ve been asked by several ladies to discuss how I was able to loose weight.
I hope that this video will help explain my journey and the steps I took to loose 70 pounds. I have been able to maintain my weight for close to seven years now.
I went on a diet by following a low glycemic plan. I will link below some information which might be useful should you decide to follow this plan.
I think that any plan should be something that works for you specifically. I suggest you look at different options before choosing one that works for you.
Calorie control as well as some type of exercise plan is always a good way to go.
I suggest you keep a food journal documenting what foods you eat, when, and what you were feeling.
A rounded out meal plan is a good option as you can eat just about everything within moderation.
There are many websites and apps available to help with weight loss. They keep track of calories and exercise.
Make sure you keep snacks to help you keep on track.
If I can answer any questions, please let me know.

It is so difficult when you have an addiction to food. A struggle each and every day. Although I’ve kept off the majority of the weight I have gained about 12 lbs and finding it so hard to loose it. One day at a time!
Happy to have you as part of this lovely group.

Yvette, thank you for sharing and as for the 70lbs you lost I found them 🤔. However, everything you said is true on how to lose weight especially when you choose the wrong food as a replacement for dealing with what’s truly bothering you. I am currently working on losing weight I track my calories and try to make healthier choices in food and also sometimes treat myself to a sweet or savory food. I have too many pretty clothes that I want to wear again. Congratulations on your weight lost that is a major accomplishment in life. Stay safe and well.

Hi Dori, I hope you’re well. It’s a struggle to loose weight. I think a steady program is best and counting calories is key. I believe everything in moderation, sweets included! I’m happy you’re looking forward to wearing your clothes. Don’t give up and remember to be kind to yourself. Stay well. 🙏🏻😊

Loved your success story! I dream for when I would be able to wear a size 16! Im 5'0" and wearing a size 24. I don't want to be a skinny , skinny lady. Just a better looking and healthier looking lady. I'm 59 years old and been over weight for 41 years. I have health issues and I have very bad knees. So it's difficult for me to walk and I runout of breath. I love to eat and I know it's gonna be very difficult for me to lose weight. Your story inspired me to lose the pounds. But you did hit it on the nose about why we gain weight. Congratulations on your success!

Hello Irene! I’m so glad that you found my story useful. It’s so very hard to loose weight; it took me years to make the decision to take control of my problem with food. I believe it’s an addiction that I will live with for the rest of my life. When I’m in stressful situations I look for the foods that comfort me. In fact I’ve recently added back a few pounds that I need to work on loosing. Irene I know how hard it can be. You need to be kind with yourself. If you want to loose the weight-I’m certain that you can do it. Take it a little bit at a time; in small increments, maybe 4-5 lbs at a time. Celebrate your successes with a small gift to yourself. Maybe a pretty lipstick a small bouquet of flowers. Something that you enjoy. Above all realize that it will not come off all at once-offer yourself the Grace that you would give someone else. Know that I’m here if you need someone to cheer you on. Stay well and thank you for watching and for your kindness. 🙏🏻😊

Good evening Yvette. U did such a great and informative video. With also being a food addict most of my life starting at age 12 I tried every diet under the sun starting with the grapefruit diet. By the age of 15 I was up to 185. I went on a “starvation diet” with just 1 normal , healthy meal a day. I managed to lose 50 lbs and kept it off for quite a while. After having 2 kids the weight crept back up and I again found myself in the 190’s. Now low fat diets were all the rage and we had an Hawaiian vacation coming up so now I used a low fat - low calorie approach. Finally 11 years ago I had gastric bypass surgery done. It’s not a cop out--it’s a tool. Years later I combined a low carb lazy Keto way of eating with it. Long story short I went from 260lbs to 115 lbs where I sit today. I went from a size 18-20 or 1X to a size 4 or S. I’ve been maintaining about 4-5 years now and have gone thru many sizes of clothing (good reason to shop).. haha. I don’t count macros or calories...that drives me nuts. It’s been the easiest lifestyle I have ever been on. Btw I’m 5’1” tall and 65 years old. I feel better than ever except for the usual aches and pains from getting older. Every food addict has to find their own way and thanks so much for sharing yours. 🥰

Good Morning my friend. It is a difficult journey for all of us. There are many ways to loose the weight it’s all a matter of commitment I think. I can see that we are very similar in our struggle and I applaud you. I would never think of gastric bypass as a cop out. I had considered it myself but I have bad outcomes with surgeries. I wish I could loose a bit more this rearrangement of weight is driving me crazy. I keep trying it is a lifetime addiction so one day at a time. Stay well my friend, nice cool weather here. 🙏🏻😊

Be committed to losing the weight. Find a regular exercise plan that you can do. Imagine yourself smaller. Pay attention to calorie intake. Have a low calorie snack available. Drink water if you feel hungry. You may just be thirsty. Talk with your doctor, get a dietician if you can. Thank you for the advice! Great advice Yvette. Almost three years ago I lost 40 lbs in much the same way. A doctor wrote in a chart “overweight due to excess calorie intake” and I thought wow that’s really cutting it down to the simple fact. I use a cool app called lose it to track my calories and weigh myself every day so if I do gain some I am a little more careful till I get back to the healthy range.

Hi there, is it white and beautiful? I will have to check that app. I still struggle to maintain, it’s truly an addiction. I too weigh myself a few times a week. Also put on proper slacks with zipper to make sure nothing going on. I have found that although my weight is the same it’s shifting...ugh!

"Lose It" is an awesome app. I'm not at goal weight, but recording my food honestly helps me. I don't use the social aspects of it, though. *My* doctor frankly told me to get off my butt & move more (written as I sit watching a YT video - progress, not perfection! ☺).

Low glycemic… less sugar and carbs
    Lots of water
    Seeds and nuts in moderation
    Fish meals
    Veggies
    Moderation in all foods
Look at the calories in food
Focus on losing a few pounds at a time

Very good advice. I lost weight about 14 years ago and got to a good weight but after menopause 3 1/2 years ago, the weight started to creep up and nothing seemed to be helping. Out of desperation I started intermittent fasting, thankfully my husband joined me. We have both been very happy with our results and find it especially helpful during a pandemic when we are always home. Our first meal is at noon and we stop around 7:30 pm. Recently I have been making my lunch the biggest meal of the day and dinner something smaller and simple like oatmeal and boiled eggs. The funny thing is that when I tell people about Intermittent fasting I noticed that the thinnest people would tell me that they have eaten like that all their lives but they never heard it was called intermittent fasting. Also, we have been fasting for 3 1/2 years, never in my life have I ever been able to do any diet for that long. It really is a permanent lifestyle change for us.

Hi Wanda, glad to see you here today. It’s nice and cool here today. I’ve heard of intermittent fasting before, need to research further. I usually eat breakfast at around 9:00 it’s my largest meal of the day, I usually skip lunch and then have dinner around 4:30-5:00 and that is normally my last meal of the day... I will sometimes have a handful of nuts in the afternoon. Oatmeal is one of my favorites for breakfast, I had it today. We all struggle to maintain a good weight. Stay well! 🙏🏻😊

    • @wanda18221

@@PolishedAfterSixtyYvette by the hours you are eating sounds like you are already intermittent fasting. The typical fast is 8 hours of eating followed by sixteen hours of fasting. The only things allowed are no calorie liquids like black coffee or tea. It doesn’t matter when in the day you start if you stop for 12 plus hours you are fasting. The benefits are many. So it’s funny that you are doing the 16/8 hours without realizing it’s called intermittent fasting.

A less expensive way is to use simple healthy foods. Legumes in bulk are the cheapest food and so nutritious. A half cup of beans a couple meals a day costs pennies, fills you up in a satisfying way, and full of excellent nutrition! I make a pot of beans and portion it out for the week.

Hello Rama, I’m glad that you found this video useful. I was able to loose the weight using a low glycemic diet since I had been diagnosed with diabetes. This allowed me to keep my sugar a low levels. I was able to eat a variety of foods. Typically I would eat a protein at each meal along with some vegetables and some carbohydrates. To help me with cravings I found that nibbling on nuts and nut products (crackers) helped me. I don’t like to limit the foods that I eat as I find this to be too restrictive. Instead I try to eat all foods in smaller portions. I did also count calories and tried to exercise (yoga and walking). As long as I was loosing weight I was happy, even the smallest amount was reason to celebrate. I didn’t gain it all in a month so I won’t loose it that way either. Above all be kind to yourself. 🙏🏻😊

Hello Polished After Sixty Yvette. I wanted to say that your video inspired me, and I was wondering if you could share the treatment facility that helped you overcome food addiction. This is a long-life struggle for me as well and can't seem to get out of this. Thank you!

Omg, hello and thank you for your kind words. I still to this day struggle with my relationship to food. Whenever I am feeling stressed it calls to me. I did not go to a facility; I had a caring physician who worked with me. She had a dietitian on staff and also an in-house exercise studio. It was only when i decided that food was running my life that I determined that I needed to do something for myself. I had tried “diets” before restricting certain types of foods. I had to learn to eat ALL foods in moderation. But as I said it’s a struggle that I will probably have all of my life. If you can find a doctor who works with the entire body-mind, spirit, and body; I would suggest you try. Before anything decide that it’s what you want. Do not be discouraged my friend. Little steps an ounce at a time until it becomes a pound, then two. Please let me know if I can be of help. Stay strong my friend and above all be good to yourself. 🙏🏻😊

@@PolishedAfterSixtyYvette omg I’m so grateful you took time of your day to give me such a kind response! I couldn’t relate more and I realize this is going to be a life struggle.
I’m 28 but I’ve struggle with this since I’m 8 years old and i want nothing more than feel content with my body and have control over my emotions, and addiction to food. When you were taking about your experience, you mention the “spirituality” factor and that’s so profound; I know it’s very important. However, it’s been very difficult for me to find a physician that has such approach and all the tools you were able to find. Is there a word to describe this approach? In other words, how do you find what you found? If your physician takes consultations online I would be very interested. Obviously, don’t feel any pressure. I also acknowledge that I would love to see the physician in person, but if they finally know what they’re doing I figured it’s worth a shot.

@@user-ej7zv5ff4r Hello “V”, of course I would respond to you. I’ve been right where you are this moment and know the difficulty you are facing. It is never too late, I began my journey at 58; thirty years more than you are now. You will have 30 more years more than I to live a healthier lifestyle, if you so choose. It was always an up and down experience for me. I was a yo yo dieter; always ending up with more weight than I originally started with. I believe it’s because I expected too much of myself and became easily discouraged. It is all about the long term. Some weeks I did not loose anything on the scales but I might have lost an inch or two in my measurements. That’s why I said you must be kind to yourself. Acknowledge that it is truly an addiction; one day at a time my dear young woman.
My doctor specializes in “Functional and Integrative Medicine”. She actually has a few videos on TH-cam. I will leave a link below for you. Please know that there are many women out there who are encouraging you to be your best self. It would be my honor to be one of those women. Please feel free to contact me either here or at my email polishedover60@gmail.com

I am a long time Atkins, not Keto, Atkins fan. I find it an ez diet. But it doesn't work as well for me anymore, Not as active. My theory is, I am fat, I was born with fat cells. If not eating cheese, which I really can do without. Don't eat cheese. When I was a kid my aunt would do calorie diets, I am doing that now and finding it works. But it is your makeup. I have friends who can eat rings around me and never gain weight. I wish they would look into why some people lose and other's don't.

Hi thank you for your feedback. Atkins does not work as well for me either. I find that you tend to gain most of the weight as soon as you introduce the carbs. My mom could eat anything and everything and not gain weight. I do believe that it depends on the person. I wish my metabolism worked better but I’m not that lucky. I have to watch what I eat and also how I eat. Stress is a huge trigger for me so when life gets hard I can tend to gain weight. It’s something I have to deal with daily. Thanks for sharing your story I’m with me. Stay well🙏🏻😊

Hello Christine, I probably had around 1100-1200 a day. I think if you find that isn’t enough for you then try 1300 and see if you loose. The key is that you loose weight. Doesn’t matter if you only loose 1/2 lbs a week or 3 lbs a week. Try also to move a bit so that you are using more calories than you are taking in. I wish you success. Remember to celebrate each loss. I found that if I limited myself too much then it would lead me to binge and then the roller coaster would begin again. Stay well 😊🙏🏻

I found when visiting Europe a number of years ago that it was easy, even practical, to walk everywhere, far more than I would do at home in the States. Functional walking, such as for buying groceries or to/from work, is challenging, if not impossible to do where I live.
