  • If you are over the age of 50, the chances are good that you have followed diet or exercise routines designed to help you lose weight. Some of those efforts may have been successful, so it would make sense to repeat what worked in the past.
However, what if you can't find the motivation to get started? Or what if what worked in the past is not working now? In this video, I'll share four things you can do today to get your eating, moving, and thinking on track so you can jump start your weight loss.

In a month I'll be 73, in the past 8 years I've gone from a BMI of 30 to 23.11 ... a couple more pounds to go so I can say, "I lost 100 lbs". Chest pains got my attention and instead of stents I thought I'd try life style changes. The chest pains are pretty much gone now along with other problems. The golden years really can be golden if we can get and stay healthy. I love the improved mobility that comes with weight loss.

I'm 73 and have lost over a hundred pounds. I'm about the weight I played highschool sports But you probably haven't lost the plaque buildup over the years. One of the best heart surgeons in the country saved my life.
Nowadays it's no grains, fried foods, vegetable oils and limited sugar.
I'm also going on year three recovering from a six pound liver cancer that ate my gallbladder thanks to the six million dollar robot and surgeons at Barnes hospital. The surgeon said the cancer had probably been growing since I was a kid. Only two percent of the people survive longer than seven months with my comorbidities. It shows that the body wants to heel if given the right nutrients. I also do fasting.
Growing up down the street from Monsanto's chemical plant in Sauget IL didn't help.

Ma'am if I may, I am 58 & 54kg. I firmly believe in eating a healthy breakfast, big lunch & moderate dinner. Exercise in moderation. Drink lots of water through out the day. I eat breakfast at 7 am & nothing after 7pm. I cook from scratch. If you don't have time, take one day to do a big cook & put meal size portions in the freezer.

Thank you for the clarification on starting over. I started over the next day over and over again in my 30s and 40s. Now in my 60s, I’ve learned from you that starting over with the next meal actually lowers my level of guilt and self admonishment. I’d also like to say that the goal should not be perfection. My daily goal is to simply stay on track, as much as an imperfect human is able to do. We must stop giving the message, to women, especially, that perfection is attainable. We are imperfect beings, with imperfect behavior. Rather than encouraging people to strive for unattainable perfection, let’s encourage each other to embrace our already attained imperfection, because perfection is a daunting goal and completely unattainable.

Keto has been nothing but a struggle so I am moving to the Mediterranean way of eating but still watch Carbs levels and keeping low to no sugar.

    • @bidnow2946
      @bidnow2946 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I'd recommend that you figure out what it is about "keto" that you were struggling with first. A Mediterranean way of eating can still be a ketogenic diet. Keto is about controlling your Insulin, and with that, weight loss is more easily accomplished. If you are already leaner with no significant Insulin Resistance, then keto is likely not necessary.

I kept the weight off until Covid and my husband of 51 years passed away. Consequently I have gained 20 lbs and have tried for the past 6 months to get it off with no successes greater that 5lbs only to regain it. I have followed you and your husbands videos for over two years. However, nothing you are telling me now seems to motivate or help me get this 20 lbs to go away!!! But still I think all you do to help people is wonderful! Blessings to you and your family!

I'm 51 and I've been doing IF (16 to 20 hours no food) and long-term fasting (3, 5, and a 10 day fast) for a long while. I have dropped from 88 kilograms to 74 kilograms in the last 5 or so years. I still have trouble with my set weight, because of holidays and vacations, but average around 77 kilograms because I always eat a leafy salad with a lot of vegetables. One thing I noticed is that I have a lot more energy and my mind is 1,000X clearer. Also, the aches and pains I felt in my shoulders and sometimes in my lower back just disappear. I was so alarmed, esp when I do a long-term fast. I just had a full checkup where I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy and I was clean as a whistle. I passed my exam with flying colors, so I would definitely recommend IF and throw in some long-term fasting about 3 to 4 times a year. I do my long-term fast about every 3 months. Trust me....you will love the results!!!

Being in your 50's is not necessarily only about weight loss but maintaining a healthy weight. when i was 36 I was 54 kilos after the birth of my twins & I am still 54 kilos because of a healthy diet. I joined a gym at aged 20 to make sure i was fit into my 50's & beyond. After menopause because of my healthy diet I sailed along. I lived in Greece for 14 years that helped too.

I am 74 trending to 75 in a few months. Once the COVID pity party got over (wished I had started last year). Can’t say that I am in Keto intentionally, however I have lost 25 pounds 217 to 192 in three months. Cut out sugars and carbs that turn to sugar, work out 5 to 6 days a week for the last three months, fasting OMAD a couple days a week, 20-4 3 days a week and whatever happens 2 days.
Feeling total body change and skin is so smooth an amazing change!

The A,m. meal routine is in the distant past and MY break-fast is around 1 p.m. with a large salad around 5:30. Pelz talked about the stubborn plateau and suggested that a 36 hour fast to break the daily routine and the 72 hour every quarter could be good strategy. Comment if possible. Yes i am at a plateau....have looked the same Since end of July....love handles still hanging around. 62 male in Canada.

The sugar component really did it for me. I was counting cals, lowering carbs a little but hadn't realized how much sugar was in some low cal treats and foods Whether yogurt, yogurt ice cream bars or "breakfast bars" the calories might be 100 or so, but the sugar was double digit, which was glossed over by me looking at the low cal bold numbers.I had to lower carbs more too but sugar was sadly the largest obstacle to my weight loss. Finally lost 30 last Fall. ; )

This all makes sense and it’s great advice. With my work schedule I don’t eat at work (not even lunch) part time jobs is what I do. So I come home starving . I can’t stop eating at 4:00 when I don’t get get home till 5:00 or after

Such great tips especially the “get back on track on the next meal” so many times over the years I have fallen off plan and said oh well I will start again tomorrow (sometimes I have written off whole weekends to start again Monday morning!) Thank you for the always relevant regular videos you provide for us😊

Thanks for your common sense approach . Feel better doing OMAD . When I go out I enjoy meal with company but restrict myself at home . You got to be realistic in how you live your life . I’m 68 and walk more , have a foot bike for in doors I use . I have an eating window from 4pm - 5pm that I like . I’m eating better and feeling better .

I don't do too well going to bed on an empty stomach. But I try and be done eating by 7pm, and normally go to bed around 10h30-11h00 pm.

I have watched several of your videos and have learned a lot. This is the first one I have seen that discusses exercise. It would be great to see content from you that discusses the combination of what to eat (proteins not carbs) the number of calories (I struggle to determine if I should eat nuts or a lower calorie option like a banana or rice cakes) and whether one should eat calories to cover the calories expended during exercise.
For example, I typically burn between 2400 and 3000 calories a day, depending on the exercise I do (yes I exercise a lot). I want to eat more protein based foods but they have more calories per ounce so I end up hungry. If I’d eaten the same amount of calories in a pasta I wouldn’t be as hungry. I’m not sure how to balance all three components.

I am soon to be 51. I have lost about 20 pounds using keto with intermittent fasting.. I enjoyed strength training so much! Unfortunately I hurt my back for a time. All these tips will help, though.

I love the exercise tips. Unfortunately I have severe Hashimoto hypothyroidism. I tried IF and keto. I almost fainted at work, lost clumps of hair, my TSH went thru the roof . My hypothyroidism worsened. Not healthy form . It took 8 months to only lose 12 lbs. I’d rather count calories than intermittent fast or keto. Thx for exercise tips.
