    grew up in the city. used to have a friend Clint who lived on Leavenworth. back in the 80s. he was a bike messenger and could make enough to pay rent and live on. haven't walked around the city in about 20 years. It has changed but it hasn't. tenderloin and Tenderknob were always sleazy and dirty.

    Two months ago I had to attend a business show at the Moscone Center, I parked a couple blocks away at a parking garage. When I stepped onto the street there was a group of bums taking turning shitting on the same pile in the middle of the sidewalk, it appeared to be almost 2 foot high and it was steaming...I turned around and went home.

    The Tenderloin ? I don't see anything tender, only rough stuff.

      San Fran was only a nice place for a short period of time, that was in the 60s. since then its become just like Oakland, not much difference between the two.

      @@drywater3559It was fine in the mid 80s. It was NYC that was really bad in the 80s.

    I’m wondering if the rain or a recent cleaning sweep cleared out the usual encampments. It just didn’t look terribly bad that area.

    The Tenderloin has never been good in my life time. It was definitely already really bad in the eighties. It is even worse now, but the real problem is much of San Francisco and California are much like the Tenderloin. It used to be contained within the Tenderloin and Hunters Point, though that area is a bit different.

    Just got back from Sydney. Beautiful city that works. Maybe SF can send a delegation there and get some advice.

    That is tame compared to all the homeless encampments. Didn't go down the right streets.

    Interesting video. I was wondering about all the negative news regarding SF too, and if it was really true.
    The Tenderloin seems similar to Skid Row in LA to a certain extent, but also noticeably different.
    Skid Row has historically been in a more industrial part of DTLA. The Tenderloin in SF is like if Skid Row existed along Los Angeles street in LA.
    Do you know if SF has a Skid Row as well, or is the Tenderloin their Skid Row? Thanks for another interesting video.

      Tenderloin area historically been the "skid row". I still feel its not as bad as LA skid row despite what outside media has been saying. SF is just 7x7 miles everything gets magnified

    • @mediaxpuppet
      @mediaxpuppet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it's similar to LA skid row in that's where the city's homeless resources are centralized. I think that the Tenderloin has been an area of containment for many decades, but I don't think it was purpose built for that reason.
      I know there's a huge nautical history and i'm sure there were brothels, opium dens and red light districts in other areas of the city, nearer to the water in the past. Unfortunately I'm only familiar with peripheral history of SF so I can only surmise a lot of things based on my little experience visiting. Walking around with a camera pontificating is all I can bring to the table for this video. Thank you for checking it out.

      Don’t believe the Hype... Just Watch ( Dolores Park in 4k ) if you want to get an idea of what ( Working People ) do on their spare time. The ( TL ) does exist .... but it’s like ( 2% of the City)

    • @michaelwells7348
      @michaelwells7348 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      and ~ Yes ~ the TL is like the skid row. And the Best way to describe what’s going on is ..... the City Relinquished that Area to People ~ in the hopes that they would stay in there own little Cesspool ..... and not be hanging out all over the City.... Kind of like ( A Containment Zone )....Not a place for people who aspire to become something More than that place

    • @mrxman581
      @mrxman581 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mtownz6215I see. Skid Row seems worse, but it's in an area of DTLA that is more industrial. By contrast the Tenderloin is on a street with some beautiful old office buildings. That's not the case in LA's Skid Row.

    Crews should be going around asking people just standing around why they aren't looking for work... We need 90 day off the Streets Program. If you aren't off the streets and working then you get put to sleep via injection. No more standing around doing drugs and causing problems all day long.

    WOW! As soon as you crossed that street, it was as if you slipped into some third world country. Also; the 'Pepsi' signs are disappearing because people keep stealing them.

    "It's not a good idea to walk though here."
    Seriously, what do you think is going to happen to you? A random shot of heroin will make it's way into your arm? Going to breathe in some syphilis randomly?
    Nothing is likely to happen to you walking through an area like that in broad daylight.

    • @mrxman581
      @mrxman581 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Still, you need to be aware of your surroundings. I saw a seemingly homeless person just hit someone on the head from behind for no apparent reason.
