Man, he was an incredible talent. I think it's important to remember that he wasn't busting chops like this out constantly like so many other shredders. A lot of his material is remarkably restrained and tasteful, but then he could rips stuff out that nobody else could do.

Transcrpitons like this reminds me about how sloppy Shawn Lane's playing really was, as opposed to the gross amount of overhype he gets. Like, his timing is really shxt.
It's seems that's he's playing 15-20 nps on average, which is cool, but triplet 32nd at around 0:03?
64th at the very end(Equivalent of 32nd at 300bpm?)
Literally doesn't make any sense, and lack of accuracy should not be counted as speed. lol

I think I probably did not choose the best clip to represent Shawn Lane. I’m not sure how familiar you are with him, but check out his instructional video if you have not done so already. oh my gosh i have been looking for someone to transcribe this lick, i it always caught my ear when i listened to his solos he does live wth the drummer. thank you so much but could you possibly explain whats going on a little its so complex
Haha, I wish I could explain it. My best guess is that he is alternating between the diminished and whole tone scales (with some chromatics thrown in for good measure) as fast as he can without thinking. Honestly, I don’t think you should try playing it note for note because Lane improvised this in a stream of consciousness. I would just master the picking technique and then play freely across the two aforementioned scales. That is the best way to imitate this, IMO
