I attended a clinic in 1996 in Belgium, chatted for an hour with Shawn, bought the guitar he did the clinic with and had it autographed with a Ying Yang sign. After that I was invited to have dinner with him and his crew. A highlight in my long life, together with my various meetings with Allan H.
This is like christmas and my birthday falling on halloween. Shawn was at another level. He was not from this planet. Thanks for sharing this with us. There is a lot to learn from Shawn, not just his speed and dexterity but beautiful chord voicings and cool tones. Maybe cover his gear in another vid. Rock on Dave!
Aww man iv been trying to learn these licks off the original video years back and now you properly show us how to do them. Thanks so much Dude!!! Love the channel!!
holy smokes dave the randy diminished video and now a shawn lane 3 for all?!? i’m loving it man keep up the vids! if it’s not too much to add i think doug aldrich seriously deserves another visit or a three for for all!
Eddie is the best rock player of all time, but Shawn is the pinnacle of technique combined with imagination and melody. He's still never been topped and is greatly missed.
The white strat in Shawn’s video belonged to Barry Bays and that’s Barry talking to Shawn in the video in case anyone is wondering. Barry is an old dear friend of mine and Shawn also and well a lot of people in Shaws circle around Memphis and the delta. If anyone is wondering anything about Shawn just ask. God bless ☮️ ❤️
I got into Shawn through Alex Masi - who of course you pictured from the reverse of his "Attack of the Neon Shark" album. He's a massively underrated and virtually unknown guitarist who deserves a lot more exposure.....you could do a video on him and not even scratch the surface :) As far as Shawn, I can't add anything to his legend, but I do appreciate your amazing work.
@@dan_perry No idea he had been bought up, nice one Dan. He absolutely deserves a shout out! Edit: Apparently (I had forgotten) I mentioned him on a previous SL episode.......I better go dig out some of his albums.
I've seen that video of him on the white Strat. I felt the same way when I heard him slow down a bit and get soulful and bluesy. Shawn was a big fan of Billy Gibbons.
Hey David, I really enjoyed those soulful licks, especially the one at 11:30. I know the 2nd and 3rd figures on top of your Late Night Lessons sign are Ace and Jimi. Who is the 1st character?
Pleaseeeee do a Derek Frigo three for all/chord play if you can… Enuff Z’Nuff in my opinion is the most underrated band ever, and those first three albums with Derek are magic.

Very cool .. do you still have the guitar?
Yes I do. It’s a red VIGIER Excalibur. 😃
@@milgarofalo3377 That's awesome !
those Lane, Hellborg, & Sipe videos are some of the best parts of what TH-cam has to offer humanity
Damn! You really cover everyone! You continue to impress me with how diverse you are! Just awesome!

Great stuff David Shawn was a monster player always good time for some rippin blues licks 👏👍🤘🎸
A really sweet guy...miss him a lot.
Most of the Hendrix-sounding stuff was actually Hendrix. From "Peace in Mississsipi" which he covered on his album THE TRI-TONE FASCINATION.

Dave ... Ya got some big paws... and very graceful too. Thanks again for the great lessons.

Yeah, I mentioned Alex over a year ago...shame.

For those wanting to check the licks that are show here, on the "Shawn Lane shredding on a white Stratocaster"", these starts at 0:53 on that video
So cool! Thank you! Love this stuff
Wow you are on a roll
Check out Shawn Lane & Chuck Reynolds playing Flim & The BB's song Heart Throb live at the Bicycle Club 1987. Absolutely brilliant.
Shane Lane and "Alien" Holdsworth remain an absolute mystery from another dimension, That Can't Be Human ! 👽😅
Hi Dave..Great lesson..Ive always loved SLs playing..also glad to see your own playing is getting better and better..Good Luck...Dave
You need to do a video on how you get all the different tones because you nail it every time.
Thanks David 🎸🎸👋👋💯💯💜🤍💙❤️
Great job as always.
I saw Shawn Lane abusing a guitar (early 90‘s) at the Frankfurt Musikmesse. Mindblowing experience!
Love your channel and you’re playing! Hello from the UK 👍

computer arguing with buckethead... looking forward to some weird dreams tonight
Have you heard Shawn playing the Hotel California solo live in 1988? It’s better than the original imo.
And he wrote everything on piano…. it was scary watching him do that speed on the keys
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend also today is my friends birthday also may the fourth be with you ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
This is for all the whiners with short attention spans
Lick 1 4:07
Lick 2 6:48
Lick 3 9:26
Bonus 12:12
Those licks have some Leslie West "influence" for sure 👍
Didn't now about Shawn Lane before....(!!?)...but i can see and hear the Jimi Hendrix influence there.....cheers....thx
Great lesson but also your tone is incredible, is there a particular pedal used to get that tone? Thanks
The session work Shawn did was very varied - check out the album by Worrall.
Do you attend any of the jams in Chicago Blues scene?
Hey David, I really enjoyed those soulful licks, especially the one at 11:30. I know the 2nd and 3rd figures on top of your Late Night Lessons sign are Ace and Jimi. Who is the 1st character?
Looks like Harrison.
I was hoping for his signature chromatic riffage 🎶
More Randy Rhoads, please....😉
....actually, I'm serious. Please more...
They are all call and answer phrases
What are you playing through for most of these videos? You always get such a huge sound that just sings.
What neck pick up did you used to have on that guitar?
Hey! Once upon a time I had a Seymour Duncan Cool Rails single coil in the neck, but that was a few years ago.
: )
A computer arguing with Buckethead. 🤘🤘
I like your tone. What kind of guitar are you using?
Its a teisco del ray

I had to tune down more than a half step to play along... it was D flat for me🫤
Why do all of Shawn’s vids have the worst video quality. All of them looked like film was under water .
