Overview and first impressions of the new Roxon Phantom S802 Multitool and showing the exchangeable blade system that lets you swap out different blade shapes quickly. Phantom is now on US Amazon, links included in the text description box as well as other multitools from premium to budget options, enjoy :]
Not terrible looking, but that plier head looks so...useless.
Great review as usual. Nice to see a fresh idea for the, “4 slots” maybe they will let the customer pick what tools go in all the slots. also here is an amazon link to a great deal for something you may be interested in now that it has scissors KINGMAX Multitool Tactical Knife,Pocket Knife with Pliers, Fire Starter, whistle,Scissors,Screwdriver,Folding Knife with Safety Locking,Perfect Survival Knife tool Gifts for Men Women,Outdoor,Camping www.amazon.com/dp/B086X5S5G4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9-jiFbJ0P5D4A
Intriguing Kingmax multitool, I am going to try one out. It is always interesting to see fire starters incorporated into a MT. I have some alternate versions of that tool, but they do not have scissors or the firestarter, just the same frame, so this version looks more useful!
The Transformer in me loves a multitool, and I like this one especially that the blades are interchangeable with the folder. This is perfect, and the folder, for a get home bag. Looking forward to the test video forthcoming. Thanks so much for what you do for us shivaholics.
For sure! Welcome, my friend!
I'm impressed, they clearly have a better engineering team than Leatherman these days I guess, I hope the material quality is also good. This could be a good competitor.
You can't accuse the Chinese of making a USA brand knockoff. I think Leatherman will be copying this interesting blade and scissor design!
Here is my testing and review of the S502 Folding Knife ($17), this is the knife that can interchange blades with this multitool. I test out the drop point, tanto, talon, and fully serrated blades, enjoy: th-cam.com/video/EYVcHPFvLK0/w-d-xo.html
The fullsize shear is for me the most impressive selling point. In my daily life, the most used items in my multitool are the screwdriver, awl, plier and the shear. I have collected and use many victorinox over the years, but this shear grabs my attention.
*Finally someone does deep detailed reviews*
This is why I do like his channel, they are simple videos but with all the details and information we need to know about the tools
That is amazing! If that has any success you’ll probably see the big boys implement that system, leatherman, sog, gerber.......etc.
Definitely, they should have done this long ago.
They should indeed, but i can’t see so much of changes aside that replaceable blade.
@@justaperson324 You can have different kinds of blades for different uses.
You should try to see things outside the box ;)
Looking forward to the performance video!
I've been saying, for years (since I discovered Surge's replaceable file/saw blade), that the successful multi-tools of the future will host interchangeable tools. Delighted to see Roxon is stepping up with replaceable blade choices. Yours is a great review of this tool, particularly as you suggest Roxon's desire to stay contemporary in the multi-tool market. (How much does it weigh and how does it compare to other MTs in its class?) Excellent review, Ty!
Customizable multitools are definitely the future. This exchangeable blade system, plus a bit driver, and 2 tool exchangers like on the Surge, would make a good customizable template.
I just found the bit holder of s801s can perfectly fit on the Phillips screwdriver of s802, very stable and work well. It's awesome. And the Phillips screwdriver of s802 also can use with the the LEATHERMAN removable bit driver set in my test.
Where can you buy the Roxon bit driver kit and adapter separately?
I've been EDCing the S802 for a while and I really like it. I share a tip below for any interested readers. I'm running the replaceable utility blade, which saves my dedicated folding knife (Cold Steel) from beater use on packages, cardboard, etc. And the razor blade does so well on that stuff anyway, I prefer to have one on me. One tip I share for others is that the first time that one of the S802 quick-change levers ever switched itself open/loose in my pocket, I said no-way-José, we ain't havin that, so I took a few minutes and removed the lever parts and put a stainless steel washer of the right size (4mm ID by 1mm thick) in their place, then screwed the handle back together tight. This means that you can't do the tool-less blade interchange anymore BUT you are NOT going to have the levers loosen themselves in your pocket. Whether this mod is right for you depends on your personal preferences and modes of carry, but for me it was totally the right move. My S802 is dedicated to the utility knife plus its AWESOME shears, and if I need other knives or multitools I'll carry them as well. The weight doesn't bother me, I need exercise anyway so a little weight in my pocket is just part of my daily exercise. In fact you may think it's crazy but I am finding that a 4Max Scout plus TWO 4" multitools (a LM Wave plus the S802) makes an entertaining EDC where I lack for NOTHING when I need a tool. I know it is overly 'enthusiastic' but WTF I get some happiness from it so F it.
Excellent! I am glad it is working well for you!
I've had mine for 3-4 weeks without a problem, and, of couse, the best part is showing it off
Leatherman 2030 will follow this roxon interchangeable blade for sure.. Soon..
Yes Leatherman will copy from Roxon
Just got mine today.. A very nice tool for the price. A little bulky for the tool set, but overall a very novel idea for people who need a larger knife specific tool set and doesn't want to carry a bunch of different full size blades. But as you said, their are lots of fine moving parts for the locks that may be trouble as the dirt works its way into the tool
I'm glad you picked one up! I noticed they just came out with 3 new blades for this, I will be reviewing them soon :]
Very good multitool
This looks prime. Probably a very useful outdoors tool. Even bushcraft effective.
Holy transformer multitool. 👊💀⚔🇺🇲⚔
What does blue UM stand for I see it all the time
Sweet baby jesus!!! The phantom, extra blades, and the phantasy pocket knife are all cheaper than a freaking leatherman wave!!! Ohhhh im so getting it all!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
For sure, innovation like this is how the competition is supposed to work, hopefully the multitool market will continue to get healthier like this :]
I don't feel the lack of a file is a major issue - I have a small EDC toolkit which includes a high quality fine file and nail puller/pry bar, ratchet + various bits, and then a multi tool - and that covers all the bases I can imagine. Everything can be contained within a small(ish) pouch so the Roxon would fit very neatly into that kit without any overlap other than screwdrivers.
Has anyone tried using the scissors to cut cat6 wires? Either with the wire insulation or the wires themselves? I’m an installer and I’m looking for something to trim the wires when terminating. My Waves’ wire cutter isn’t doing a good enough job and it’s scissors are just too weak.
Heinnie Haynes in the UK sell one, the S801S, but it has a corkscrew, ruler, file, strap cutter and a bit driver and bits. It's not got the removable blade but has the shears.
I can't share a link for some reason. It's worth a look if you like this though.
Ah yeah, that is the upgraded version of the old Storm, with locking saw, I've been meaning to get one of those.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives cool. They also have the Nextool Flagship Pro and Flagship Mini, which have the same construction of pliers and large scissors.
I feel the 802 us a compromised/consumer version of the 801
Needs a bit driver in sheers handle! Then I’d buy it
Cool 😎
This is something I have wanted for a long time, it handy and makes things modular and customisable.
I have a question for you, what would you recommend for a good bush craft, big out, survival.
Axe
Hatchet
And machete?
Also do you know anyone who makes custom scales for Spydercos and Saks?
A bugout bag would need something small like one of those Vaughan Carpenters hatchets and maybe a Tramontina Latin machete. Not sure about the custom scales.
WeAllJuggleKnives I saw some of the cold steel stuff, but I’m not sure how good they are?
And I can’t find those Vaughan’s over here unfortunately.
Also what about a tomahawk?
Even fancy trying knife and spike throwing too, but I have no idea who makes good budget friendly tools like that either.
A Cold Steel Frontier Hawk, Pipe Hawk, Trail Hawk would be great for a bugout bag, because they are light, but they won't chop as hard as a hatchet. Hudson Bay Hawk is a bit heavier, but might be good too.
WeAllJuggleKnives what’s your views on Hultafors axes?
Seen a hatch they make and it’s at a not bad price.
I’ve also been told the cold steel Viking axes are good?
And how would you rate cold steels D guards?
Also I’m really torn between the trail and Hudson Bay hawks, they both are good.
I might go for the Hudson due to it being heavier.
And what is the spike for on some of the tomahawks?
Do you think it could work if they would make the handle itself work as the file?
They might be able to put a file or sharpening surface outside or inside the removable scale.
I do like the whole blade exchange system because actually things like a metal file and some other long blade shaped elements can be part of the swap system.
I however would have replaced the wood saw with the file and put it as a separate blade for the system.
I think the blades could include various saws as well so the multitool can even cut metal.
I personally would love if they do a knife with shears, a file and two sided blade exchange sides with a bit driver.
It will be a sort of 5 in one but with so much possibilities because you can have a fully configurable twin blade system that can fit most of your needs
which means the tool will have always on the shears, 3 sided file and the bit driver.
I would like for the swap blade system an
electrician blade with included wire stripper.
The utility knife
Scalpel
Metal saw
Wood saw
Various knife blades of many shapes
Razor blade
Serrated
a multi wrench system
Yeah it has so many possibilities, definitely hoping for an exchange-able system that can take wood saw/file/hacksaw. Like the Surge but done more like this Roxon does it.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Indeed, because with such a system they can even do a pliers based tool with 4 exchangeable blades or a knife based with 2
So people Can customize the tool layout to fit their needs and they can even go with other options than blades as long as it's a long and flat tool.
Like you are a woodworker you get wood related tools, you are an electrician, you get utility blades and electrician knife, you work with metal you get a metal saw...
Nextool or roxon? Wich would you pick?
Get the least expensive one first. If you find it is good, you're all set. If you find you still need something more, then you can spend the extra with more confidence :]
I have the roxon spark with the fire starter and it's the only thing I use. If that had a pocket clip and a fire steel I would buy several but it doesn't so that sucks
Glad you like the Spark! They are coming out with a new one called the Flash, I'll be testing it out soon.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Is it safe to assume it has a fire steel?
Did it missed a bottle opener?
很好的工具钳
I’m kind of concerned about the seeming fragility of the various mechanisms. But overall, the company impresses me. I have a few tools from them and they are definitely not sitting on their laurels. I can anticipate that if they ever take off and become serious contenders with the big boys, their wire cutters on the pliers are not too far off design wise from becoming interchangeable.
Pretty sweet. I just think the outside scale designs make look cheap or something. Idk
Definitely has a distant family resemblance to the old SOG Powerplay MT.
No bottle opener??????????
Cool review but the multi tool seems a bit unwieldy.
Yeah it is definitely a bulkier multitool. People might buy this and stlll carry the Sidekick :]
To me a full size multitool without both saws is a worthless tool. Hopefully their next iteration will have both sides available for interchanging and include a both saws and other blades/tools into the mix. Good start here though. Thank you for showing us.
This or s801?
I would go with this one first, but I do plan on getting their upgraded S801 in the future.
Look odd like that price for blade from 3cr15mov..
No matte black option, that holes in all big blade..
I dont know :/ imo only pillar look solid.
Nutnfancy does that. Posts product reviews of items that are no longer available.
