I had a mammogram 2 years ago. Birads 4. I was sent to a surgeon and she told me to quit smoking and it would go away. No follow up. I quit smoking immediately. Just recently, I noticed another lump that feels bigger than the one before along with the one that never actually went away. I have an appointment tomorrow with a Primary care doctor to establish a new doctor with these concerns, and go from there.
@@penniewyatt9391 thank you! Since then I had a double mastectomy, under breast reconstruction and doing chemo. Ended up being stage 2 aggressive invasive ductal carcinoma
I've had so many unnecessary breast biopsies, I stopped mammograms for several years. When I returned, I was told after first mammogram in years that I needed a biopsy, but on opposite side from the biopsy they wanted to do (and I refused) after my last mammogram. So I had my last biopsy EVER a couple of weeks ago, due to fear-porn "Birads 4" letter. Result? No cancer. But because they found a radial scar, a non-cancerous incidental lesion found on biopsy, they want me to go to a surgeon and have it taken out! BIRADS system and mammography is a joke,at least it has been for me. I'm 72 and done with it.
A “lump” is anything that is felt with the fingers. A “lump” can be anything…a mass (growth), a normal structure like a lymph node and/or a mound of normal breast tissue. The breast tissue itself is very lumpy bumpy and changes regularly due to the monthly cycle. I am not a Doctor, Physician or Radiologist, I am only a Sonographer (technologist). As such, I cannot give medical advice or opinion. I encourage you to follow up with your physician with any questions or concerns and to monitor any lumps that you feel, watching for any changes and if anything changes, share that information with your physician.

BIRADS 5 means "highly suspicious for malignancy" (95%+ chance of malignancy). Note that nothing is 100% certain until the tissue is examined histologically (biopsy). Masses can fool us, that's why we sample them if there's any suspicious features
The best content I’ve found! Informative and easy to understand if you aren’t in the medical field. Thank you!
100% agreed
Very well explained. Thank you for enlightening us.

At the time, I had no idea what any of this meant. So I didn't question the surgeon's decision. Now, I'm quite scared...

Why do I FEEL lumps and a really hard one on my left breast but after the ultrasound they said everything is negative? Is an ultrasound not accurate?
