    I'm the one with the 75 gallon Cory was talking about at 22:00. It was a used tank with black wooden stand and 2 glass lids for $300, which is a great deal for this area. There wasn't a formal contract or anything, but it was sold "as is, no warranty" so I wasn't sure what was going to happen. It is a small business in a small town. I'm thrilled to report that the store owner went above and beyond and gave me a $100 cash refund and let me keep the stand and lids. I was able to get a new 75 gal at the end of Petco's half off sale with the help of family and friends (early birthday gifts), so, after 35 years of fishkeeping I finally have a "big" tank! Shout out to Pets Unlimited in Western Maryland!

    Proud mom moment today, I asked my son to remove a piece of floating hair algae. He said, no mom, the shrimp are eating it, it’s an ecosystem.

    For my years of experience . My father told me to keep a diary of my aquarium(s) so I can learn what I'm doing right and wrong. It's just a suggestion. That made me learn alot through out the years 😃

      The best advise I have ever had was to have a small journal and I will stop whatever I am doing if I have forgotten to write down what I did. Especially since I have a less than stellar memory so I know that I added Chemi Pure to the 40 B & then I will go to the calendar page and write CP to see the day I will have to replace etc. ..maybe I should do a diary too 😂

    I really appreciate the attention to my question in the beginning. I made a much more detailed post in the Facebook group to explain why I'm struggling with the plants I want to grow because of the aggressive hair algae that has taken over my tanks.

    I was amazed that my algae went away with the addition of shrimp to the tank and reducing the total hours of light per day, put on a timer and had a nap time around noon. Worked!

    I did my water change today I pumped out more than I should have. Cleaned the green stuff off of the filter pumps. 10 hours later still working on filling the tank back up. I think the fish are enjoying the water being 55F.

    One thing I really like about the Coop light is that, if the coop shuts down the light will still work. With fluval lights, if fluval shuts down and the app isn't maintained, you lose your expensive light

    I bought this glass trap for detritus worms in my shrimp tank - it was amazing and so weird to see the worms go in there. I tried to just deal with the worms, but it was too gross seeing them crawl all over the food. I then empty the trap in one of my tanks with fish - hehehe

    I loved how you started the livestream today. 2019- My first planted tank had every kind of algae except one, that I know of, including BBA! I don't think I could grow algae in it today if I tried. My second tank has a new smelly when crushed type of algae that I have to pick out by hand every week. I know it is only a matter of time before it too goes away but I did not know this when I started in 2019. Now it is more annoying than stress and frustration. It does however filter out a lot of crud that goes everywhere when I remove it.

    Just found your channel! Love it! So I am a definite beginner. Wasn't looking for a Aquarium but I rescued it, and I love it! My neighbor was moving and couldn't take the tank. She was really sad was going to try and re-home them so I told her I would love to have it so... I got an established 55 gallon tank. Different fish. There is 1six inch Placo, 2 red tailed tiger shark, one orange albino shark, 4 Angels 2 are large angels and 2 small Angels. 1 single black neon tetra ( he needs some friends) several tiger barbs, danios, 2 gray loaches, silver dollar fish, couple I have no idea what they are. I need to take pictures and take them to a pet store to see what they are. I had it 3 months all is going really quite well. I did add some glo fish and they are doing well. But, 1 problem I added about 8 guppies they keep disappearing 😱😭 I'm assuming that they are getting attacked and eaten by one of the other fish. There are 4 guppies left... I'm not wanting to add any more of them. Thought maybe I would get a small tank for them and let them have a world of their own. They are really fancy guppies. I really need advice about everything! Wheww!!! I think so far been doing everything right as they seem to be happy. Oh, I hope the Pleco has enough to eat, as the others eat up the food straight away... Anyways I think I have written enough for now. Thanks for your channel!!!

    Jordan played here in Sarasota Florida for spring training... That really was a joke...! A friend in high school lived right next door to him in Prestancia, a gated high end neighborhood, not so fancy nowadays...! That was pretty fun though... He came out and played basketball with Scott and I... good times...!

    I caught the stream replay but I have 20 tanks and have been using 70mm downlights to light my aquariums. They are cheap and they work well but I had to go through some trial and error to get them set up correctly such as raising them to reduce the light intensity. I agree with Corey that they are a little yellow. I have enjoyed adjusting them and tinkering to get them working well but not everyone enjoys that. I also have some led tube lights on some of the tanks and have pearl weed pearling.

    Sorry to hear about Grandma's Altzheimers. It's a horrid thing to see someone having their memories stole from them and the fear and confusion it causes them. Spend whatever time you can with her, take a lot of pictures, and just keep showing her, and telling her, you love her, for as long as you're privileged to have her alive in your life.
    What I've learned through long experience is tanks go through algae cycles, different types of algae at different cycles. Then one day...a clear tank with the plants you want thriving, algae free. Then...something happens and algae starts up again, lol. Algae is just part of the natural cycle of Aquariums. What you do about it is a personal preference, it's never going to go away forever, nor, in my opinion should it.
    It's gotta be so cool to go somewhere where they have fish tanks and you're their customer, yet they have no idea, yet, of who you are, and what you do. They are going to be mind blown.
    👍💖👍

  • @Jotto999
    @Jotto999 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ah, first time I've plainly disagreed with you about anything. My aquariums got *way* easier to run with algae refugiums! Just a hardware store 16w grow light, shining down into a tall plastic spaghetti storage container behind the tank, with a czech airlift pump, and an overflow return tube. The setup took a bunch of tinkering because nobody sells this. But the result is, instead of "water changes" I just grab a handful of algae once a week and throw it into the garbage. It's much more effective than pothos. Besides, that mini-ecosystem in the fuge is surprisingly interesting! I love the little party of copepods back there.

    • @shaunneal9981
      @shaunneal9981 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could try putting the adults in a basket that has holes big enough for the babies to get out but not the adults. I float mine and it gives the fry a chance to get away from the adults. Key is to make sure the basket is big enough so the adults are happy. I also keep floating plants in the basket so there are hiding spaces there too.

    I needed algae control in my planted tank and I thought I'll buy 5 amano shrimp since they don't breed in freshwater but the store ended up selling me cherry shrimp (they looked like Amano to even me clear with dark spots/stripes) I didn't realize they sold me cherries till a few days later one of them started getting red. Now I have about 40 shrimp from newborn babies to adults and I have to add algae to my tank now 😂. Went from needing algae control to needing algae. The funniest part is that I've tried SO many times to breed cherry shrimp and no luck it wasn't until I tried not breeding them it worked I guess lol.

    PLANT QESTION - I'm about to start getting into plants in a few months. I've done a lot of research lately, and what I've heard is you need a corse gravle for heavy root feeding plants, I currently have the Home Depot pea gravle mixed with their sand. Do you guys think that would work, or should I go with a more corse gravle?

    • @ihavefish0
      @ihavefish0 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should be fine in my opinion. It doesn't matter too much if you don't have crazy plants. I have mixed sand and gravel and have successfully grown val, pogo, crypts, amazon sword, and ludwigia repens.
