Man: "But as a feminist, I am deeply insulted" Woman: "I actually thought that the movie was pretty good" Man: "Shut up, I'm being offended for you." That's it, you won the internet with those three sentences. You couldn't have hit the nail on the head harder. Well done.
Davey647Returns Has anyone actually seen a feminist get angry at this movie? Because I've looked for an example of that and haven't found a single one.
Caleb Kopp Honestly haven't been a big DC fan Marvel is my favorite but that concept is true it gives a diversity between the two DC trys so hard to be like Marvel when really DC ...Just needs to be, DC it's not Marvel they have to understand that Marvel found a formula that work for them , ONLY them and the formula for Wonder Woman should be what DC uses form mow on it works for for them and ONLY them
I am the queen of the Amazon's and I say you are not an Amazon. Then technically, your not my queen and I don’t have to do what you say. Hmm, true. M’kay byeee!
Sigh.... It's "queen of the Amazons" not "Amazon's". There's no apostrophe b/c Amazons in your sentence is PLURAL, not possessive. You aren't talking about what the Amazons HAVE. It's not that difficult, people. Yeah, call me a grammar Nazi b/c I want people who write in English to KNOW ENGLISH. The only way we understand each other is by using the same spelling & grammar for the language we are using.
Maybe it'll prevent him from coming back in Justice League. At least, we can hope (because it's now legal all states to mention hope and DC in the same sentence without talking about how DC lacks it. Of course, still waiting up in the great, white north).
@Black Ninja Besides Spiderman, Wolverine and Captain America.. None them have the iconic status of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Black Widow HAD to build up her popularity, same for Iron man, Thor and many more which fit the Marvel lore, heroes becoming icons
@Go Time Now can follow a bullet [multiple] with your eyes...deflect it back on your predetermined trajectory.... yeah.... she is way to slow to run across a field... (before batman or steve trevor)
And I love that they didn't cash in on the easiest, most cliched thing. "Dianna, that's no man's land, that means no man can cross it. This isn't what we came here to do. " Actually movie Dianna: "No, but it's what I came to do." Easy way out: "I am no man." I was so glad they didn't do that.
@Go Time Now re-read the comment.... please... i love MoS even BvS:UE, WW too weak for me. she IS god tier but is she bullet proof or not? can tank doomsday and darksied but not blades and bullets??? can witchblade beat her ass? .......
Seriously this. I read so much crap about Wonder Woman being an anti-feminist movie because Diana was beautiful and had a love interest. I'm like, really? Feminism is about empowering women to be whoever they want and to make their own choices. Diana was the epitome of this.
+Christy Snell Yeah, I honestly don't see what people were complaining about. It's basically a well-made movie with a likable female protagonist, so what was the big deal?
I just discovered Nostalgia Critic, and I just subscribe to him and I washed her a good chunk of his videos in the beginning Tamara Chambers is my favorite one.. she's funny and that's meant very cute saying this for the highest respect but recently I watched the one they did about suicide squad the lady that played Harley Quinn should have played Wonder Woman... Tamara Chambers did a great job of this who is much taller and thinner and has the same skills like Tamara chamber has it would have been a better fit for this occasion
Queen: "I still think its a bad idea for you to go" WW: "Well, technically youre not my queen and i dont have to do what you say" Queen: "ok *BAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII* " Malcolm in a dress: "AHWINK"
"If Marvel is about humans becoming gods, DC is about gods becoming human" That is an excellent line, and really helps frame my perspective of DC in a way I haven't thought of.
Daniel Hadley its an amazing line, but i don't see how anyone save Hulk and possibly ant man have become at all god like in marvel. most of their core heroes are human and have remained so. and they even have their own "god becomes human" stories with thor, and in his own way vision. its a great line and makes sense for marvel and dc in general, but i don't know if it really applicable to the movies, at least not yet
I've seen that explanation several times, but it's still the perfect explanation why people prefer the company they do. Some find gods being human more interesting because it gives them someone flawless to look up to, while others (like me) prefer it when the heroes are flawed and human at the core because it's relatable.
Humans becoming gods in marvel? Tell me two examples of that happening sure humans get powers but that's it none become gods that quote doesn't make any sense
This was really interesting to see, a funny Nostalgia Critic review analyzing why a movie is good, but also using that to showcase what's been wrong with DC movies for a while.
"This was really interesting to see...using that to showcase what's been wrong with DC movies for a while." Right, because Zod knows what we've all been waiting for is for the Critic to find an "interesting" way to showcase what's wrong with the DC movies. He's only made, what, a dozen of those videos?
I've been a fan of Nostalgia Critic for a long time. Not only did this episode make me laugh the hardest, it was also the most satisfying! Officially my favorite episode. Tamara, you really put your absolute best into this, and it's one of the reasons we love you! Keep it up, guys...YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!!!
So I took my mom to see Wonder Woman the other day. Bear in mind that she's in her 60's, so she's not exactly up-to-date on everything and everyone Hollywood. Anyway, it gets to be about 10 minutes into the movie and she leans over and asks me..... "Is that Kim Kardashian?" I may have died a little inside.
My only complaint for _Wonder Woman_ is that the film had a great scene where Diana realised that Man's cruelty is down to him, not one person corrupting him, only to have that one person appear and be killed and suddenly the war is over. Ares' plan was also odd. Why work on the peace treaty?
Ares in that movie that sort of acting like the Joker from "The Dark Knight" or the role of a Satanic archetype. He was a catalyst villain for a lot of these events, but because he operated by tempting humans to bring out the worst in themselves and giving them ideas of how to do it in a scale grander than ever before (such as the new weapons that Ares helped invent), Ares would not be able to bring such death and destruction, if humans were not already prone to corruption deep within. So what Ares said is still true. Humanity is still to blame to an extent. The potential for humanity to cause mutual destruction the way Ares wanted was put to a halt, through a combination of killing Ares, Steve Trevor's sacrifice to stop the bomber from killing more people, and the peace treaty, so it was not just won by killing Ares. Even then, the impact of the war still had a cascade effect on future generations, after Ares would have been long gone, such as a desperate and broken Germany being more easily persuaded by Adolf Hitler, the invention of the Atom Bomb during WWII, and the Cold War that followed, where people were genuinely afraid that our nuclear arsenals would destroy the whole world.
fun fact. the no mans land scene was going to be cut because the chart said it didnt make sense on paper but patty Jenkins fought for it to be preserved.
I can imagine this happening: Chart guys: But the Chart says... Jenkins: I don't care, here's my reason for keeping it in- *Wonder Woman comes in and cuts the chart into ribbons with her Lasso* Jenkins: Any questions?
"If Marvle is humans becoming Gods then D.C. is Gods becoming humans!"-Nostalgia Critic Dang man. I never thought about it that way and now I don't think I'll be able to see another Marvle or D.C. movie the same way again. Thank you
I thought that was always the case. DC and the JLA were always the role models while Marvel and the Avengers were normal people overcoming their own human struggles. Sure, interpretations have varied over the years, but that's what differentiated the two companies in the early days. There's a great image from the JLA/Avengers crossover comic in which the two groups confront each other. The Avengers are standing on a building roof looking up at the Justice League floating in the sky (with the non-flying characters lifted up by Green Lantern). The comic also showed how different the two universes were when each group explored the other universe. In that comic, Superman was appalled at how much collateral damage the Avengers' actions caused in the Marvel Universe (leading him to believe the Avengers were lazy and terrible at their job). Captain America was shocked at how citizens in the DC Universe revered their heroes like icons (to a point that he thought the Justice League must be dictators in disguise). Quicksilver was stunned and even jealous that the Flash had his own museum. Overall, the quote is nothing new, but Wonder Woman reminded people what makes DC great at its core.
John Doe, we all know this philosophy doesn't apply to every single hero, but the style of storytelling used to be true during the Golden and Silver Age. Nowadays, storytelling is a mix of everything for both DC and Marvel, but what Doug tried to say was that Wonder Woman brought back the classic DC heroism. Personal stories are used all the time on both sides, but we haven't seen the "gods becoming human" story on the big screen since the early Superman films.
yarheeguy You do realize that when superman said Martha,it just made Bats angrier so saying that would likely just make him want to kill you.At least for the BvS Version
I liked British gentlemen Ares. Its actually a unique take on the God of War, and british gentleman Ares felt more suited to delivering the films theme about the complexity of war. That theme did call for a more philosophical type of villain than a snarling over the top brutish type of villain. I even thought he looked good fighting wonder woman in his suit... the only point where i thought it slipped was when you could see his face in the armor; that was the only time that gentleman look didn't work (the mustache and armor just doesn't work well together)
MonteCreations actually he's an ENGLISH gentleman i hate when people see an english man and say british and they see a scottish man and say scottish he's also british , news flash they're all from the british isles
Fun fact, in the iliad that is essentially what Zeus says (in a much more verbose way, but basically, that): _‘Hear me, gods and goddesses, while I say what my heart prompts. Let none of you try to defy me: all must assent, so I may swiftly achieve my aim. ... Then you will see how much mightier I am than you immortals. Go on: attempt it, and see. If you tied a chain of gold to the sky, and all of you, gods and goddesses, took hold, you could not drag Zeus the High Counsellor to earth with all your efforts. But if I determined to pull with a will, I could haul up land and sea then loop the chain round a peak of Olympus, and leave them dangling in space. By that much am I greater than gods and men.’_
To be fair, executing a person that can't possibly hurt you and that isn't in the process of threatening or hurting anyone wouldn't be heroic. It's not about having a name. Ares and the General had names too and she killed both. But both were also, you know, a threat. The soldiers were threats, she is not indestructible just really really strong and there were people in danger, too. Poison wasn't a threat at all at that point.
@@malcomchase9777 What about executing a person who is, and might in the future be responsible for deaths of thousands? On the other hand, if you're a soldier in a trench and there's some shit coming at you from the NML there's not a lot of possibilities you have. Surely you don't expect anything from the other side to come and have a cup of tea with you?
I don't think she actually KILLED anyone in the entire movie. Knocking them unconscious with fist blows and kicks isn't the same as death. She never used her sword to inflict fatal injuries on any of the men she fought.
Anyone notice how, in the movie, the "God Killer" sword was in a sculpture that looked an awful lot like a Double-Helix? You know, like the kind you see in DNA? ...Cute foreshadowing from the props department there.
True, but with the reveal that Diana was the real "God Killer" and not the sword, I'm fairly confident in my reasoning of DNA being the inspiration. ...Unless you're trying to say Hermes is the father.
It is interesting that what is probably the best female superhero movie (in recent years at the very least, and to be fair, there probably aren't that many) is one that acknowledges that there was prejudice, but deliberatly does not make itself slave to that message. I, for instance, never felt that Steve Trevor tried to get her to act more "womanly" because he looked down on her, it was more because he knew that if she did not keep a low profilel, then their job would be much harder.
That's focus, mate. It's usually a result of competent people who truly like and know exactly what they want to produce being put at the high chairs, like writer's or director's.
You seem to be under two misapprehensions. First, that 24 percent is the same as 99% (Maybe you need to go back to school to learn your numbers). Second, that you are at all intimidating. Even assuming you could find me, which I very much doubt you can, or get an erection, which seems even less likely, I'd be willing to bet that I could bring you down before you figured out how to get your pants off.Oh, and in case you wanted to double check, here's the web page, moron. ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-43
Let's see your source on that. And you might want to clarify that you're quoting before you post-- you know, otherwise it looks like you're just going, "What, uh, no, I didn't mean that, it was a quote, from (oh damn, someone must have said that)"
Well, I never watched the show. And I notice you still haven't given a source for the facts. But I accept your apology, and extend my own. Sorry I scared you with actually sourced facts, and reasonable thought.
I thought the movie was great... right until the end where Aerys is revealed. Doesn't it just kind of destroy the entire message that she's learned i.e. humanity is not simply good or evil, but both, and that we are capable of great love and laughter but also great violence and horror? Isn't that undermined somewhat when the moustache-twirling Aerys turns up and reveals he was pushing humanity all along? That seems to make humanity victims of a God playing chess, rather than victims of our own nature. I was hoping that Aerys wouldn't turn up at all; perhaps he'd died out long ago. Or, if he did turn up, that he would be not a villain. Maybe he could have been a neutral observer, or even a changed God who was actually trying to prevent more war. I'm sure that would have annoyed lots of fans of the character (and fair enough) but it would have been a more interesting twist.
Ares didn't so much as push them into doing it, he just put the ideas in their heads and it was up to them whether they should go through with them or not.
I actually liked that Aries was a normal looking guy. It worked with the theme of the movie that anyone can be evil or good. It would have taken away a bit if he looked really scary implying bad people always look bad. Also bad guys looking super scary and tough is so cliché at this point it's nice to see one in one of these movies that looks normal. You made a lot of good points though. And yeah thinking back on it the final act could have been better. I never realized until you mentioned it that no one actually called her Wonder Woman.
I'm conflicted. On the one hand, you make an absolutely good point with this, but on the other I've gotten SO tired of villains in these films just being guys in suits. When Ares armored up, I was relieved the villain was allowed to actually look like the source material, and wouldn't be another situation where the villain is... just a dude. With the name of a character with an iconic look. But, again you're right, it works in a way of not every villain looks evil, and that the god of war would look like the actual heads of the real life war. I dunno. I guess I'm happy we got the best of both worlds here, lets just be careful not to praise it TOO much or else we'll be seeing Darksied as a guy in a suit with red eyes.
Yeah I can see what you're saying. Neither way is perfect. It depends on context/theme/how the villain relates to the story etc. Even though I feel this works; A CGI Aries wouldn't have necessarily been terrible. Nor would I have been disappointed really.
18:40 to 21:46 To be honest Doug Walker/Nostalgia Critic that was one of the best ending segments everything you said was on point and true I'm a big DC fan and this movie was truly amazing your awesome keep up the good work
The villain works for thematic purposes. even if its a bit odd aesthetically. If you look at the Lost Generation period of history, you see a lot of people felt that the ones who weren't fighting the war were the ones causing it, the ones deciding who lived and died, without taking any care into the lives and the worth of those people (they were worthless to them). And then, he sends Diana out. And that's just... sick, actually. Because he knows she'll cause more death too, cause more pain. He used her for the very purpose she sought out to end. And though I mean, it might be underwhelming to see Nigel Thornberry as the villain, it was still cool as hell, for the theme and message, and for how it completes the story also i think fighting the personified human version Nigel Thornberry would be very terrifying but thats just me
For me, I thought the villain worked for different reasons. As Sun Tzu said, all warfare is based on deception. Ares, being the God of War, would certainly know this best. He perfectly deceived Wonder Woman, the rest of the good guys (and most of the audience) into thinking he was on their side, and then when it was time for him to strike, he did it. So many battles in the past were won because of an act of deception that threw their enemy off, such as feigning weakness. Posing as an old man with a mustache who even mentioned "if I was younger, I would be joining you" was imo a great way to feign weakness.
I don't mind him posing as an old man with a mustache. i mind that he WAS an old man with a mustache. In his revealed, powerful form he's STILL an old man with a mustache. AFTER HIS BATTLE WITH ZEUS THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO, HE WAS STILL AN OLD MAN WITH A MUSTACHE.
This was the spiritual Superman movie, imo. That scene where Wonder Woman is told adamantly she can't save everyone, and she says "Watch me", was all the nobility and heroism that embodies DC's icon.
Doc Savage In man of Steel superman had the same heart, he tries to save everyone he can, from oil rig workers to helicopter pilots, hell even the villains say" for every human you save we will kill a million more" ,it's just that he couldn't save everyone which kinda made him seem depressed in the second film, Wonder Woman did the same where she saw the village get gassed, but she seems to quickly gotten over it in the end of the film. Both have the same heart but with different scenarios and environments
......WAITAMINUTE----I just realized your Doc Savage!!!!! (Really ironic given that yesterday I found The Phantom and The Shadow in the same comment thread. XD) Kidding. Pardon for geeking out at your profile.
Well if the cross symbolism, the church scene, the masses fawining over him while the government is suspicious and the origin story don't do the trick, lets stage Michaelangelo's "Pieta" with his body and see who's surprised when he rises from the grave. I think I yelled at the screen when they did that.
I really liked this movie, but the historian in me was a little rankled that they made Quartermaster-General Ludendorff (yes, real person, real rank, look him up) the main villain. I get, since this isn't WWII, they can't use Captain Nazi, but can't they come up with an equivalent instead of using an actual historical figure? What does killing him do to the timeline? Doctor Who's going nuts right about now...
I think they just wanted to have a Hitler-alike in this movie to be the Big Bad before they revealed Ares and, since the big German names in WW1 aren't as well known as the ones from WW2, they figured people wouldn't get as mad about the historical inaccuracy.
"Long ago in a distant land, I Aries, shapeshifting master of war, unleashed an UNSPEAKABLE EVIL!!! But a FOOLISH Amazon warrior wielding a magic sword stepped fowarth to oppose me" edit: holy shit this got a lot of likes
lol well yeah the Mythology of this movie is obviously different from Greek Mythology. The idea that Zeus would sacrifice himself even for the entire human race is hilarious... he's more likely to wipe them out after stubbing his toe. Just forget the myths you know from the real world and go with the versions in this film as it provides a fun backstory for Wonder Woman.
The thing about Ares is that his plan was to create an unsustainable peace, which is actually what happened. World War I led to economic instabilities in Germany that let Hitler rise to power and caused World War II. And the way World War II ended gave rise to the Iron Curtain and the Cold War, which nearly ended in nuclear war. He was trying to get create that circumstances.
Wonder Woman 2 as a spy movie set during the Cold War dealing with Ares plans having a lasting effect even after he was defeated similar to The Dark Knight Rises dealing with the jokers plans having a lasting effect could be good?
maybe if that guy was his disguise form like it was at first and then be a big muscular guy (not with the same person used as the disguise mind you but more like a younger man) then it would make sense... but I can see how that can be a turn off...
Wonder Woman is basically Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor mixed with Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice shitty finale which ruins the whole message of the movie.
@Kristopher Prime i cant take that film seriously the cgi at beginning is just so bad it takes me out of the film he looks like a bobblehead for half the movie
Your speech at the end about how Wondy is a great hero in this movie because her motivation is as simple as wanting to do the right thing for good reasons and to help people, is thankfully an angle on superheroes that is getting more popular. The new cartoon My Adventures With Superman takes a similar angle: Superman isn't angsty or brooding or a messiah, he's just a big friendly guy with superpowers who wants to help people because he's been raised to value helping people. Simple as!
Surprisingly, they didn't want that scene. The studio apparently didn't "get it" and kept asking for it to be cut. It was Jenkins that kept pushing for it and eventually got them to keep it.
Actually they didn't overdo it that much, in my opinion, they could have gone the Eowyn route but instead they just had her walking there instead of delivering a pun.
It really was silly. Honestly though, who didn't see that scene coming? Wonder Woman is by far my favorite hero. The movie was good, but there are far better ones out there. I'll just stick to the comics.
Moonlight Drown The effect and CGI makes the action so dumb a example is how the thing throws a tank and it magically disappear after the explosion the final fight scene is pathetic because Dr Doom got defeated by being punched all the way the fight was short and underwhelming. The designs were ok but Dr Doom look awful and why the hell is Human torch black like seriously. It was so draggy and it's took us more than half of the screentime to get the superhero Vs supervillain.
Even green lantern, spider man 3 and X men origin:wolverine is better than this crap

Goddamn, the last few years have been so hectic, I somehow thought this film came out in 2018, but the date stamp on this review says otherwise. Unless you've discovered time travel secrets.
"No, no, no, no...lemme Batsplain..." I literally choked laughing. By the way, THIS... "If Marvel is humans becoming gods, DC is gods becoming human." DAAAAAMN, dude. PERFECT.
Honestly, I think it's the reverse. Superman was raised as a human and became a god after his powers manifested. Batman was born as a human, but due to his strife, he trained himself to be able to fight with actual New Gods. Green Lantern gained one of the most powerful weapons in the universe and became a protector of his planet. The Flash gained the power to travel faster than any living being on the planet, eventually becoming faster than the speed of light. The list goes ooooon.
This is officially one of my favorite less funny Nostalgia Critic reviews. That's not to say it doesn't have its funny moments...but the heart of the review here is that it's a decent movie that shows what it looks like when someone actually understands what a DC hero is meant to represent. Hearing Doug rap up the review the way he did...that's what made this review for me. I enjoyed the movie...and I enjoyed this review. Good work, Channel Awesome.
Better/less-controversial movies are harder to review. BvS was easy, MoS was easy, but this is good enough where they have to be super nit-picky to get any comedy out of bad decisions.
I know I might be milking sympathy by saying this, but that ending description was perfect both for Wonder Woman, and my late mother. She loved this hero, and in a lot of ways, was just like her, and I couldn't be happier that they treated this hero with the respect she deserved. Mom would have been so proud.
Wait, what about Captain America? he fights because he's standing up for what's right, not for personal motivation, but because a hero was needed and it was what was right. Wonder Woman and Captain America have a lot in common in that regard
dang, i just made a comment about this too before i read through all of them and saw yours. it's true though, Cap is one of the most selfless and just heroes that's been on film in recent years, and he does it just because he wants to and knows it's the right thing to do
You also notice when Diana meets him for the first time, Ares was the only one in the room talking about how they could achieve peace. so he gave them both the tools to help us live together and the tools to kill each other and left it up to us. it's a real Promethean tale when you think about it
xak brittain Until you realize the WW1 peace treaty helped create WW2. Ares probably saw how fucked the Germans would be after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, creating further conflicts in the future.
That's what I loved about this movie's Ares. Do I wish they'd have blacked out his face when he was in his armor? Yes and no. If they'd done that, they probably would've just made him a CG monster at that point, and I got enough of that with Doomsday. Besides. Remus Lupin as the God of War? Why not? It was honestly refreshing to have a second movie this year where I walked out not nitpicking things apart. And unlike Logan, Wonder Woman didn't leave me feeling like Fox ripped my heart out and showed it to me, creepy skull hat guy style(yes, I know his name is Molaram). Beauty and the Beast had its problems(the Beast's song when Belle was leaving was a big one for me). Ghost in the Shell had its problems(Honestly, a little longer with the Major kicking some ass as well as some actual philosophy would've been nice). Guardians Vol 2 had problems(Why did Ego suddenly decide to tell Star Lord that he gave Star Lord's mom cancer? That was stupid). Wonder Woman...actually gave me very little to gripe about. And it's the first DC movie since The Dark Knight that that's happened.
+Thread Bomb Ares' plan 101. Give loaded guns to a bunch of toddlers then feel superior when they shoot each other. Keep giving said toddlers bigger and more excruiating ways to torture and kill each other, while simultaniously telling them to get along. He's one of those people who keeps saying jerk-ass things, and says they're serious until you get upset and claims it's not *thier* fault you're offended since it was a joke. Except with Mustard Gas. He does this for his own personal satisfaction. Maybe it's to prove Zeus' creation isn't so grand and assuage his inferiority. Maybe he's just a troll. They didn't go into that. They just claimed he was evil, and had him admit to doing douchbag things while claiming not to be the one at fault. It will never stop being confusing if you don't understand it at a gut level. It still confuses me. I kinda just had to notice that it exists and is a common insanity in my fellow humans.
I actually didn't mind Ares staying as the British guy. After all, he likely changed his physical form throughout the years as needed, and it's appearance is irrelevant to his strength.
I thought it was honestly a good twist because it showed that war isn't just about the brawn and shooting things, but also about the cunning minds behind it. A couple of words here and there can often be just as powerful as physically hurting people.
Except they showed what he looked like back during ancient Greece and he looked the exact same as he does in the rest of the movie. What would have been better is that the British guy was just a disguise and his true form was played by a guy who actually looks like he would be the god of war
"She's unique because she cares about people and fights for them due to her own personality, rather than her powers." Me, from a distance: CaPtaIN AMericA
Amaze Master We all have reasons for doing what we do. Nothing is completely selfless even if you say that you help people because it feels good or because it's the right thing to do.
just that Cptn America looks & sounds patriotic in a too american way to me, because it's unecessary to whom/what he swears loyality too, as long as he protects life.
"If Marvel is humans becoming gods, DC is gods becoming humans" Not gonna lie, I cringed a little at that bit. It's not like Marvel or the MCU doesn't humanize its heroes like DC, both the ones that were humans first and later got powers (Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man) and the ones that were born as gods (Thor, Vision). This whole need the internet has to polarize things and assume two sides can't compete if they aren't the exact opposite of one another has been poison to superhero movies lately, and possibly pop culture in general.
Actually thats one of the reasons Steve Rogers in comics gets rid of Captain America persona because he values human life and both individual and greater good, he just stops defending "American Values" when they are not what he stands them anymore
I always like heroes like Wonder Woman, Captain America, and so on because they do the right thing just because it's the right thing, oddly enough they're the unique ones now.
Nick Clark lol true. Especially with the wave of "anti-heroes" not that I mind that trope but it's refreshing to see heroes doing good for the sake of good.
Doctor Cupcakes its boring character when superhero do because they are superhero. its like villain do villain thing because he is villain. u can give hope to others but still has your own reason. for example spiderman 1,2. give those thing. homecoming not
He said in Civil War, " If you have powers, and you let something happen, it's your fault" basically with great power there must also come great responsibility.
The reason I really loved it was because it had genuine positivity. It wasn't forced, but I left the theater feeling refreshed and uplifted. And that's such a stark contrast to a movie like suicide squad. Even though it's not perfect Wonder Woman made me really happy and I really enjoyed it.
I love that image. Zeus, up on his majestic throne. His voice echoing throughout all of cosmos. Sun shines behind him, his lightings by his side. And in that majestic glory, he speaks "Bitch, I am ZEUS!!!"
I'm sorry but I can't help it😂 Wonder Woman: oh no, the god slayer didn't work Aries: Diana, you are, the god slayer Wonder Woman: no, no, that's impossible Aries: search your feelings, you know it to be true Wonder Woman: NOOOOOOOOOOoooooo
I only have one, _one_ problem with this movie. The end made no sense. Especially with the theme they were going for. _Just_ when they'd gotten it through Diana's head that you can't just kill one guy and the war ends (I blame Tolkien for that bulls*** mindset), she kills one guy and the war ends. _Five minutes later._ I don't _care_ if he's the god of war. It shouldn't _ever_ be that easy.
@@DavidRay_40 Well, yeah. Throughout the movie, there were talks of an armistice and the need to ensure it went through. But Ludendorff (I think that's how it's spelled) wanted to keep the war going and set wheels (and planes) in motion to do so. When Diana killed Ares, though? Everybody drops what they're doing, drops their hats, and drops to the ground.
It reminded me of the part in the Monty Python sketch "The Funniest Joke In the World," where one of the Nazi officers heard the joke in faux German and dies laughing. In the next scene, the same guy appears, but he has a sign around his neck that says "A Different Gestapo Officer." I would not be surprised if Doug got the joke from that, since he even once revealed Monty Python was a huge comedic influence for him.
Yes, you're most probably right. There were at least two different Monty Python references in the review. I also saw some kind of Holy Grail dvd box in his room.
Wrong, Doug...we seen one Hero like her. We've had Steve Rogers. Both heroes who war a shield for a reason. Both are about protecting those that are weaker than them, because they know that's right.
Ezraielor Sunriser yeah, but Wonder woman was created by DC before Marvel created Captain America, and I think he was referring to DC movies, not superhero movies in general, he rarely reviews Marvel movies.
@@fangchick93 Actually, that is incorrect. Captain America first appeared in March of 1941, just over 6 months before Wonder Woman made her debut in October of the same year. They are both old, with a ton of history, but Cap has been around marginally longer. Also, technically, neither of those characters were originally published with a publishing house by those names. Captain America was technically originally made by Timely Comics, which admittedly became Atlas comics, then Marvel. Wonder Woman was made by All Star comics, which was already in the process of fusing with other houses to form DC by that time, best that I can see. That last is a nitpick though. I just thought it was interesting personally that Cap came around so close to, but technically before, Wonder Woman.
Ezraielor Sunriser I think Wonder Woman did it better. Captain America fails to focus on anyone else aside from Bucky, whereas we care about the people in WW.

"If Marvel is about humans becoming gods, DC is about gods becoming human"
That is an excellent line, and really helps frame my perspective of DC in a way I haven't thought of.
Yeah ummmm..... Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Green Arrow to name a few...

The ending with The critic eating hand cake next to wonderwoman playing electric guitar is one of the best shots of NC

"If Marvle is humans becoming Gods then D.C. is Gods becoming humans!"-Nostalgia Critic
Dang man.
Sammuel Parris ten days and they still do not know I am human.
It's MARVEL, dammit, not "Marvle"
Batman and Thor would like a word...

The last Nostalgia Critic review with a full head of hair.
I miss it!
I liked British gentlemen Ares. Its actually a unique take on the God of War, and british gentleman Ares felt more suited to delivering the films theme about the complexity of war. That theme did call for a more philosophical type of villain than a snarling over the top brutish type of villain. I even thought he looked good fighting wonder woman in his suit... the only point where i thought it slipped was when you could see his face in the armor; that was the only time that gentleman look didn't work (the mustache and armor just doesn't work well together)
him melting away eye holes with his fingers was a badass shot though
you say that but at the end it degenerates into a cgi porn fight anyway, and a really bad one too ...

"Bitch, I am Zeus." 😂
Almost as good of a line as "let me bat-splain".

Fun fact, in the iliad that is essentially what Zeus says (in a much more verbose way, but basically, that):
_‘Hear me, gods and goddesses, while I say what my heart prompts.
+Louis Victor Well damn...
Won't kill doctor Posion but will kill 50 soldiers before that
But doctor poison has a name! D:
None of them had names and are therefore not people.
And the fact that the actress is a former Israeli soldier make it more ironic.
Finn Underwood The double helix is also a caduceus.
True, but with the reveal that Diana was the real "God Killer" and not the sword, I'm fairly confident in my reasoning of DNA being the inspiration.
...Unless you're trying to say Hermes is the father.
Reminds me of my big stupid DNA sword. Man was that dumb.
Finn Underwood Actually, the Caduceus staff represents the son of Apollo, Asclepius. So that could also hint to the DNA thing.
Finn Underwood subtly saying .. Corruption of DNA will kill gods creation.?
It is interesting that what is probably the best female superhero movie (in recent years at the very least, and to be fair, there probably aren't that many) is one that acknowledges that there was prejudice, but deliberatly does not make itself slave to that message. I, for instance, never felt that Steve Trevor tried to get her to act more "womanly" because he looked down on her, it was more because he knew that if she did not keep a low profilel, then their job would be much harder.
Well said.
That's focus, mate. It's usually a result of competent people who truly like and know exactly what they want to produce being put at the high chairs, like writer's or director's.

It's historically more fitting and accurate then you can possibly imagine.

Mike Burger, to be fair, there's no way they could have gotten the statistics from your imagination.

It's Ares. How did you get to "Aerys"?
@@runefaustblack I think he just knows his Game of Thrones way better than he does DC :D
Ares didn't so much as push them into doing it, he just put the ideas in their heads and it was up to them whether they should go through with them or not.
Totally agree with you. I wrote similar things one year before, lol
@@runefaustblack I know this was 10 months ago, but yes, Förster44 had it right. I got confused by the spelling from ASOIAF.
Oooh neat. I like that.
Yeah I can see what you're saying. Neither way is perfect. It depends on context/theme/how the villain relates to the story etc. Even though I feel this works; A CGI Aries wouldn't have necessarily been terrible. Nor would I have been disappointed really.
Oh god. If they do that to Darkseid...
I was actually glad that nobody called her Wonder Woman. It would have been way too cheesy.
18:40 to 21:46 To be honest Doug Walker/Nostalgia Critic that was one of the best ending segments everything you said was on point and true I'm a big DC fan and this movie was truly amazing your awesome keep up the good work
It was just him describing Captain America without even realizing it haha
That's very true lol
The villain works for thematic purposes. even if its a bit odd aesthetically. If you look at the Lost Generation period of history, you see a lot of people felt that the ones who weren't fighting the war were the ones causing it, the ones deciding who lived and died, without taking any care into the lives and the worth of those people (they were worthless to them).
And then, he sends Diana out. And that's just... sick, actually. Because he knows she'll cause more death too, cause more pain. He used her for the very purpose she sought out to end. And though I mean, it might be underwhelming to see Nigel Thornberry as the villain, it was still cool as hell, for the theme and message, and for how it completes the story
also i think fighting the personified human version Nigel Thornberry would be very terrifying but thats just me
savegalkissy Nigel Thornberry LMAO 😂😂😂😂
Sam Wilson throws a tank at Wonder Woman
*SMASHING!!*
Lol I would beat the shit out of Professor Lupin.

What it's trying to convey is beyomd me
Well if the cross symbolism, the church scene, the masses fawining over him while the government is suspicious and the origin story don't do the trick, lets stage Michaelangelo's "Pieta" with his body and see who's surprised when he rises from the grave. I think I yelled at the screen when they did that.
“Symbolism. Jesus. I’m Jesus. You’re welcome.”
I fucking died from laughter.
In the words of Professor Song: "Spoilers"........
"The laws of time are mine!"
Honestly you can blame Warner Brothers for that because they completely changed the film"s original ending.
Though for the vast majority of WW1 Ludendorff was chief of staff of the German army and towards the end he was pretty much the ruler of the nation.

21:10 Best line ever in a comic book movie review.
i just want to someday have as much fun as tamara is having being wonder woman
And Zeus was like "bitch I'm Zeus!"
in greek myth.... it's not... entirely inaccurate
No no, first, Are's said he wouldn't usurp the throne, but he was totes lying
lol well yeah the Mythology of this movie is obviously different from Greek Mythology. The idea that Zeus would sacrifice himself even for the entire human race is hilarious... he's more likely to wipe them out after stubbing his toe.
Just forget the myths you know from the real world and go with the versions in this film as it provides a fun backstory for Wonder Woman.
"Aresgant ass" is also pretty funny.
NC: The only movie I'm excited for is the emoji movie.....
WW: what?
NC: damn rope of truth!
Lazo* of truth.
Gray Maven yeah but he wanted to kill everybody on earth that's still not good.
Wonder Woman 2 as a spy movie set during the Cold War dealing with Ares plans having a lasting effect even after he was defeated similar to The Dark Knight Rises dealing with the jokers plans having a lasting effect could be good?
If there was no mustache and just glowing eyes, Ares would be much better.
Much better in design, but I like how his character was handled in the movie.
Yeah ares was a real turn off for me in this movie
maybe if that guy was his disguise form like it was at first and then be a big muscular guy (not with the same person used as the disguise mind you but more like a younger man) then it would make sense... but I can see how that can be a turn off...
I guess actually defeating Wonder Woman is...
A piece of cake
*wonder woman guitar solo*
You should take a look at Captain America: The First Avenger. These movies share similarities in a good way.
Wonder Woman is basically Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor mixed with Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice shitty finale which ruins the whole message of the movie.
Isn't Captain America the _male, mortal_ version of Wonder Woman?🤔🤔🤔
@Kristopher Prime i cant take that film seriously the cgi at beginning is just so bad it takes me out of the film he looks like a bobblehead for half the movie
Jason then you make the CGI for it. I know I can’t.
Actually he was Professor Lupin. Way to miss a moment to bring up a Harry Potter reference
"The only movie I'm excited for this year is THE EMOJI MOVIE!" Oh god, Jacksfilms virus has gotten to him!

Simple as!
Murdering Germans while awesome music is playing is the right thing to do?
Actually, the reason she walked onto that battlefield is that DC couldn't resist the super obvious Woman in No man's land pun.
Surprisingly, they didn't want that scene.
The studio apparently didn't "get it" and kept asking for it to be cut.
It was Jenkins that kept pushing for it and eventually got them to keep it.
Either way, it was extremely cheesy and I actually laughed out loud in the theater, which in turn pissed off the other people there.
Actually they didn't overdo it that much, in my opinion, they could have gone the Eowyn route but instead they just had her walking there instead of delivering a pun.
Bluemew1234 definetly one of the most iconic superhero action scenes of all time
It really was silly. Honestly though, who didn't see that scene coming? Wonder Woman is by far my favorite hero. The movie was good, but there are far better ones out there. I'll just stick to the comics.

Tod Moon is it bad I liked that movie?
Moonlight Drown yes that movie was stupid and boring as hell
Chew Li Juan I just liked the action and the designs really
22:00 I definitely think you should give Tamara more of these deadpan-ish, dry humor moments. She's absolutely fantastic at them!
Jordan D I like her more when she's energetic.
I love her 'wait, what?' moment where she breaks the 4th wall

"No, no, no, no...lemme Batsplain..."
I literally choked laughing.
By the way, THIS...
"If Marvel is humans becoming gods, DC is gods becoming human."
DAAAAAMN, dude.
PERFECT.
*zoom in on Batman* (V.O.): "Day 178. They still don't know I'm human."
But.. Marvel has Thor who is a literal god and DC has Batman who is just a normal human, soo...
Does that mean dc is better for being relatable as opposed to the marvel comics "everyman"?
What about men becoming wolves?
Yea! Another Nostalgia Critic Review!
MineTurtle Animations Hey MineTurtle!
Boi
Gojirawars 03 hello
The queen of the amazons in this review cracked me up. XD
I thought it was kinda poetic that Ares'armor was made out of the weapons of man
Now you point it out that is really clever
I know I might be milking sympathy by saying this, but that ending description was perfect both for Wonder Woman, and my late mother. She loved this hero, and in a lot of ways, was just like her, and I couldn't be happier that they treated this hero with the respect she deserved. Mom would have been so proud.
Aw.. Well.. We never die, soooo, I'm sure your mom hears you ALL the time and understands.
The Spoony Bard
I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sure your mom is proud.
Wonder Woman and Captain America should have a crossover.
Wait, what about Captain America? he fights because he's standing up for what's right, not for personal motivation, but because a hero was needed and it was what was right. Wonder Woman and Captain America have a lot in common in that regard
dang, i just made a comment about this too before i read through all of them and saw yours. it's true though, Cap is one of the most selfless and just heroes that's been on film in recent years, and he does it just because he wants to and knows it's the right thing to do
Caine Fiala except he hails hydra now so.... there's that.
yeah, in one of the most loathed comic series for him, and not at all in the movies because they're actually good, so y'know
if91100 Actually, the Hydra thing was changed back in what I think was literally the next issue because of the reaction to it.
jimboa20 well, her, Superman, and captain America were made with those ideals in tact during war eras. So it makes sense.
When Diana walked onto the No Mans Land, someone in the trenches could have said:
"So this is it huh? She's some kind of, Wonder Woman?"
or "Huh, I WONDER who that WOMAN is?"
RaYmOnDrOiD I don't think it would've fit the mood of that scene very well
One of the sidekicks to Steve "Where did you find that wonderful woman my friend" best way to work that shit in script
But... But that's Katana
That Other Guy wrong sword
You also notice when Diana meets him for the first time, Ares was the only one in the room talking about how they could achieve peace. so he gave them both the tools to help us live together and the tools to kill each other and left it up to us. it's a real Promethean tale when you think about it
xak brittain Yes! Intelligence on the Internet! So rare!
xak brittain Until you realize the WW1 peace treaty helped create WW2. Ares probably saw how fucked the Germans would be after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, creating further conflicts in the future.
I think I'll have to read a transcript of the movie to really get Ares' plan.
+Thread Bomb
Ares' plan 101.
“Different Person” sign killed me 😂😂😂
I actually didn't mind Ares staying as the British guy.
He looks like Nigel Thornberry
LesJosuaManga Smashing~~
I personnally thought it made Ares awesome staying a british guy with a bad ass armor.
I really don't get why people are so upset about it.
"She's unique because she cares about people and fights for them due to her own personality, rather than her powers."
Me, from a distance: CaPtaIN AMericA
Jessie S. Actually cap is only like that, because he has experience being the victim.
"If Marvel is humans becoming gods, DC is gods becoming humans"
Not gonna lie, I cringed a little at that bit.
22:26 i cant stop laughing at this seen like wonder woman playing an electric catar and the critic with a blank expression wile eating chock let cake
wonder what Malcom was thinking when he did that "AH WINK~" thing.........
The reason I really loved it was because it had genuine positivity. It wasn't forced, but I left the theater feeling
refreshed and uplifted. And that's such a stark contrast to a movie like suicide squad.
Even though it's not perfect Wonder Woman made me really happy and I really enjoyed it.
"The only movie I'm excited to see this year is the emoji movie". Oh my god I never thought I'd hear nostalgia critic say those words
Deity Saturn mw neither
I love that image.
Zeus, up on his majestic throne. His voice echoing throughout all of cosmos. Sun shines behind him, his lightings by his side. And in that majestic glory, he speaks "Bitch, I am ZEUS!!!"
I'm sorry but I can't help it😂
Wonder Woman: oh no, the god slayer didn't work
Aries: Diana, you are, the god slayer
Wonder Woman: no, no, that's impossible
Aries: search your feelings, you know it to be true
Wonder Woman: NOOOOOOOOOOoooooo
Aries.
_Five minutes later._
I don't _care_ if he's the god of war. It shouldn't _ever_ be that easy.
@@f.i.r.e.5119 well, technically, that's how WWI actually ended. I mean, Ares is fiction, so it obviously wasn't him.
@@DavidRay_40
Well, yeah.
You've always been the god slayer, Mrs. Prince. I should know, for I've always been Aries.
"shut up, I'm being upset for you!" -pretty much western society this decade
I'm pretty sure Critic is only excited for the Emoji movie so he can tear it apart. (I have to remember to make some Popcorn)
I dunno why Aries had that moustache, even from the flashback origin in the movie, he was banished with that moustache from the start.
I love that "shut up I'm being offended for you" that is so bloody accurate XD
*looks at literally every TH-cam comment section*
ARCHERRRRRRS!
AssassinHitto 😂👍
AssassinHitto Which anime is your character from is it naruto or hunter x hunter
Isaac Matthews, Dragon Ball Super.
The Archer class really is made up of archers!
"Just cause you are correct, doesn't mean you're right!" :D
I had to pause the video when the Auntie character wore a sign that said "different person" because I was laughing so hard
Consuelo Higdon Me too that was awesome 😂
Consuelo! Crazy meeting you on TH-cam! xD
Ezraielor Sunriser Yeah But thats Marvel, this is a First for DC
@@mentaya11 Well to be fair, Marston was alredy working a good while on Wonder Woman until it got published(so the idea might be actually older).
