Please stop I just want to see my family
Just a heads up, if you were to paint tiny seagull shapes on plastic wrap with acrylic, you could peel up the tiny birds, shape them into little "m"s and then insert them into the sky resin.
They’re cute!!!!
Son of beach, those are great
Also, I hope you are enjoying the saga of the Skill Share Transitions guy... He's gonna be causing all sorts of drama this year ;)
Oh I can't wait to watch it all hahahaha
Well I didn’t see this when I posted my comment but it answers my question 😂. Yay for a new running gag!
So does he just live in your house all the time? lol
Skill share guy gives me the same energy I get when I watch Sam from critical roll advertise. Which makes me want to watch every sponsor without fail.
I really liked the birds! I think a really fine brush might help , because if they're smaller it might seem less "cartoony"
I thought the toothpick would be as fine as I could get haha. But yeah if I had a teeny brush that would look way better :)
@@Rybonator or even using a needle.
@@Rybonator For this and just any fine brush work, I highly recommend nail liner brushes, like for nail art. They are incredibly fine, much finer than even the finest liner for typical paintbrushes, and you can get them for pretty darn cheap online
@@GiraffeFlavored I have some nail art brushes that are quite literally five or six hairs lmao
Am I the only dice goblin here who doesn't make dice but still watches every dicemaking tutorial that Rybonator posts just cuz they're fun and cuz he makes better dice that you can buy like anywhere ( I wish i could make dice T.T )?
Aww thanks Kotori
You're not alone, im too broke to start making dice ) ;
No not even close to being the only one. 😁
Someday I might actually make some dice.
Nope, I do the exact same thing haha
I dont make dice or play dnd, i just think its cool
The seagulls might have needed a thinner brush (an *even* thinner brush) but honestly I love the shadows they cast down onto the waves and the 3D effect!
I'm glad that you like them and that they weren't a total mistake haha :)
... you have a resin 3D printer, seems like you could print some seagulls really tiny?
True, but you're forgetting something key here-
I am a big dumbo and did not think of that :p
@@Rybonator good way to save face after being pointed out the obvious 😂
@@Rybonator actually now that I think about it, Luke Towan did something similar with fish in a river diorama.
Good inspiration 😉
I read Ocean and thought Narwhals. They'd be happy swimming in those tiny lil oceans :)
I wish I had some mini Narwhals!
I was thinking tiny killer whales but tiny narwhals would be precious!
Did someone say 3d printing
I think it's pretty brave that you actually drew the seagulls! I wouldn't dare. I'd spill some black nail polish onto a silicone mat, let it dry, peel it off and then cut out the tiny seagulls. It would be pretty nerve-wracking so of course that's the one method I'd go for 😂
Oh man, that's actually super smart!
@@Rybonator A judicious use of nail clippers might be better for getting the curvature right than scissors
Love the dice! Some suggestions of what you could put in the water would be a little sea serpent peeking out, a few tentacles, or a whale/whale fin depending on the room you have in the die.
Oh some tentacles would look awesome!
Nessie dice! Nessie dice!
If you made the water darker and put tentacles coming out of it, that would be awesome!
@@jameskrolak I really need to see Rybo make a set of “Stormy Seas” dice now, with dark grey clouds and lightning scattered around inside
@@Ardorstorm Ya know, you CAN buy tiny lightning bolts to use as inclusions in dice. They wouldn't look like real lightning, though.
The separate transparent layers may be from either differently ratio'd mixing of part A/B, or different room temperature affecting the cure time. Since the transparent resin is *very* transparent, minute differences in refractivity will be very evident in the interface layer.
I would love to see a big D20 version of this Ocean wave idea, but this time doing 1/6 Clear -> Modpodge transparent -> Modpodge White foam -> 2/6 Light blue -> 2/6 Darker blue -> 1/6 Sand, so that the water surface looks more rough (since its base is the modpodge layer), there's a gradient of blue as depth increases, and the lowest number is "buried" at the bottom of the sea. Extra points for putting a boat/chest micro figurine halfway between the dark blue and sand layers!
With the chest figurine, you could have the D20 be the one at the bottom (reverse the layers), and paint the number gold, so it's like the gold inside the chest buried at sea!
Yay, more dice
Gotta feed the dice goblins ;)
Idk why but this really made me chuckle
I love the little seagulls, they're honestly adorable
Glad you like them :) I wasn't sure if it was worth it haha
For add-ins I’ve seen several sets of dice floating around that have little shells put in them. Always looks super cute. If you search “dollhouse fish” you can also find tiny fish made for miniatures that would look awesome in the water part
If I do a beach set, I'll totally put in some shells! :)
That's cooool
I really like the effect of the clear sky. I know a lot of people would make it blue but by being clear, it makes the whole set feel refreshing, like water on a hot day
Me too! I'm glad you like them :)
Really had to post this while I was making a swamp water genasi. Now my plans are incomplete
Muhaha, I did it JUST to mess with you :p
Dang, these look so cool, in love the transitioning colors on the numbers
Thanks Chris! I always like it when there are dual number colors
Nice. You could absolutely add various sea dwellers to each die. Put a giant squid, a kraken, merfolk, etc. The same basic concept would be great with semi-opaque lava (even throw in some orange or red glow in the dark) instead of water bellow the clear sky. Even a diaorama with a green foundation layer and some tiny models, maybe wagons, minis, trees, etc, would be cool.
Is this going to be an ongoing saga like we had with you sacrificing Rybowife for the soul stone dice? Are we going to delve into the backstory of the transitions guy?
Oh 1000%
Already have a script planned for the next episode lol
You could have the d20 with the ship, but the other dice with other misc ocean things like - maybe theres fish in the d4, or a shark in the d12, maybe a buoy in another - it can be ocean travel themed as opposed to all the inserts being a singular thing!
That's not a bad idea! Create a full ocean set haha
i love the little birds i think theyre so charming and sweet
I'm glad :D They were a silly addition, but fun for sure
I swear, your dice videos are always perfectly timed with my upcoming casts, I've been prepping for multiple underwater diorama dice - thank you so much, keep reading my mind please!
Oh gosh, lots of pressure...
Hope you are wanting to learn how to diy liquid glitter soon
Some angles of the d20 made think of a mountain somehow. Would love to see a snowy mountain theme on these diorama dice sets. I have no clue how it would be done though... anyway totally tubular broh
Oh man, a mountain dice would be... Challenging but amazing! I need to try it
"Ignore the bird, follow the river." -High Aldwin from Willow. LOL! I'd suggest seeing if there are glitter birds, bats or dragons in that size. I've got a glow in the dark nail polish with black glitter bats in it that reminds me of the seagull size you were trying for. But I also think it would be cool like you said to try a little cotton floof for clouds. Maybe even do a little bitty island.
Oh a teeny dragon would be amazing honestly haha
Also I love that quote! So appropriate here lol
@@Rybonator It's what immediately came to mind when you said to ignore the birds. LOL! One of my favorite movies still, & has a classic fantasy adventure feel.
I bet you could use a shaped piece of glitter in place of the painted seagulls! They pick up pretty easily with a toothpick for precise placement and with this method they’re suspended in a layer instead of sinking to the bottom like I think I’ve seen in some of your past experiments. Keep up the great work!
Oh I'll have to try that! Thanks :)
I've been wanting to create a cracked lake (d)ice but haven't found a really good way of doing it. I've wracked my brain over this for months and this just brought about so many ideas, so thank you so very much for this video. ❤️
Oh yes! An icey lake is totally possible like this :)
These are beautiful, birbs and all! I would love to see a Mariana Trench version - half is the ocean floor and half with deep sea life in dark water 👍
Oh that could be awesome! You have me thinking of Pacific Rim dice for sure haha
Might be cool to see what you'd come up with for some dice based around each colour of mana from Magic The Gathering, seeing as MTG and D&D both have crossover with eachother.
Would also be cool to see what you do next with this kind of technique of painting things in the middle of dice! I really like the transition from ocean blue to painted waves to clear skies, plus the birds are actually pretty cool too even if they're simple! They add extra depth to the dice which is pretty neat!
I LOVE the birds it adds so much more effect to the dice!
I'm glad you like them on there! I was so on the fence :)
You really turned the tides this time round! They're beautiful!
And the seagulls were adorable af
A fellow studier of the art of puns I see. I bow to you!
You should print some small bird silhouettes on plastic film/clear sticker paper and insert them vertically in the clear part!
That's way smarter than my way!
@@Rybonator I've used pre-made films in small resin things (koi fish films) and you can't see the film at all too! I'd definitely try it out, why not! I love your videos per usual as well! Tysm for making them!
Could you potentially 3D print a teenie dice goblin and put him into a die? I think that would be so cute! Diorama Dice Goblin Dice!!
I dont even make dice but I’ve started watching his videos bc it’s so fun to watch lol- great job on the dice! Seagulls and all
Same here and I have no clue what these dice are for I’m used to seein the regular cube dice with six sides that are opaque white and the dots are black the kind that come in the game Yahtzee lol these are for like dungeon and dragons or Pokémon or something like that I never could understand those games they were to difficult for me to get
I absolutely love these diorama style dice
They are really fun to make I gotta say!
A idea for fixing the seagulls vertically in the dice, maybe you can use stickers made from black polish/UV resin! If you paint on some kind of foil or smooth plastic (ie. Joghurt Cup), you can peel the motif of and fix it vertically in the middle with a drop of UV resin or clear nail polish.
I suggest painting what you want, then coating it with clear nail polish/resin. Makes it less likely to tear when peeling them of
I found the video again that have me the idea :)
th-cam.com/video/cjmrW95uqyk/w-d-xo.html
Oh that's a great idea! And thanks for the video :) I might try that! Thanks Arkande!
Reminds me of those layered resin trays they make. They pour, cure, and paint layers of resin, and from above they look like dragons or fish.
I liked the birds, they came out well conceptually, however for the next ones I'd recommend trying to find tiny bird stickers/papers to put in, just like you can put tiny fabric flower petals, unless you know a talented bird artist. Thanks for the video :)
Me hearing the intro puns: ,,We get it, you're a funny man"
Oh no, I have to drive that point into the ground.
Let my puns wash over you like wave ;D
Ha nice! Smart work with the turn table. Why didn't I think of that? I've gone and watched idk how many gem cutting videos. Not that I've even started making my own dice yet, but I do want to start making unique ones to go with my other art. Nice video! can't wait to see more.
These are gorgeous creations, the waves are so effective and give the illusion of movement!
I'm glad you like it Proto :)
I really like the birds on the d6 and the d20. It makes it look like the 1 is even more cursed that it already is 😄.
Haha anything to make crit fails cursed is worth it!
You might be able to find like little seagull glitter and could just place a couple seagulls where the top is more textured and painted. One thing I do really like in yours is that the seagulls actually cast shadows on the water, that's really cool
Right? The shadows MAKE it imo :)
I think those seagulls look awesome! 👏🏾
Whoop! Glad someone else likes them haha
I actually love the little birds!!!!!!
An idea for making the little bird idea work. If you set the resin at a slight angle while it's curing it'll give you the illusion of a 3d perspective, and then you you can use any fine-line pen to draw the birds. I think this would leave you with birds that look small and don't seem to be on a flat plane.
That's not a bad idea! Maybe curing it sideways with just a tiny amount :)
I come for the dice and stay for the puns. These dice are great!!
I just make dice as an excuse for puns ;p
Also thank you :)
Love the flying Ms I think they are charming.
I'm glad you like them! I wasn't sure if they were worth it haha
I hope you felt a Wave of pride after making these; they're a Shipload of fun. I know I definitely wanna show them to my Bay, and Sea if we can make a set.
I was wondering, would the mod podge affect to the dice weight distribution (I don't know how to say it) like, the way they will roll? Unbalanced? Did you made the salty water test on them? I'm curious
Have fish bowl dice been done before? Because I thought of that while watching this and I feel like that would look so freaking cool with tiny fish in the middle of the dice and maybe a little bit of sand or pebbles to represent the bottom of the bowl
Oh that sounds like a fun idea, might have to try that :)
I bet if you layered the water the same way you layered the sky you could make some little paint fish swimming in the sea
Oh now that's a good idea too! Put a lil shark in there for creepiness :)
Beautiful as always! I've always loved the ocean look in things. 💙 I wonder if daytime/sunset variants will be something you could do 🤔
On that note...liquid core ocean dice 👀 put the ocean IN the ocean! Or put the "oh" in ocean because they'll look so dang good. Pun game on the rocks after collecting dust, must polish.
Idk your puns seem polished to me ;D Rock solid.
Oh yeah, ocean in ocean in ocean in... :)
Also thank you Azu :)
Can you make a modular scene using multiple d6? So like the diorama dice from the previous video, but just the grass and trees. So make multiple d6 you can place next to each other and you could see a character walking along this terrain. You could even make different kinds of terrain that goes from grass, to woods, to desert, etc.
Would love to see that!
This is a dope idea... Lemme see what I can plan/do
Love the seagulls, funny
Hiya, new to the channel and to the world of D&D stuff in general. I freaking love these dice! They are gorgeous. Another idea, how about fire and Dice!!! Like a few fire themed and a few Ice themed?
Oh, I like the idea of making Fire AND Ice in a single set :) Also welcome to the channel! Hope you enjoy!
I want a rubber ducky in one, now. Maybe Ernie in another and give Bert one, too. Then you'll have to put Bert's pigeon in one. Ok, now it's a whole set with a bathtub and a paperclip.
A bathtub set sounds adorable haha
Definitely decided to take the plunge and start amassing the equipment and materials to try making my own dice, hopefully soon, because of your videos! They're great. I have one question that I'm struggling to find an answer to, though that could be because I have approximately eight hundred tabs open going in different directions lol, and I may have missed it if you included it in a video, but I was wondering if you have an idea of when to know it's time to change your zona paper out?
dude you inspired me to start making dice i love D&D dice watching you making amazing dice made me realized that maybe i can make them to :) thanx for the amazing videos and keep it up man 👍
Those transitions keep getting better
Hopefully he doesn't show up late again... :P
Wowie, your transitions are getting better
Practice makes perfect! But when you're already the king, where is is there to go? :)
You could model some simple bird shapes out of green stuff and paint that the color you want. It will give them a more 3d appearance
Oh that's not a bad idea at all!
In my experience, the line between different layers of resin seems to be caused by a few things, primarily the amount of mixing in both layers. On the d6 you showed at 6:18, you can see swirls in the top layer, which typically happens when the resin isn't totally uniform and needed to be mixed a little more.
I also notice this effect a lot more with Envirotex than I do with EpoxaCast, but I'm not sure why. It could be that the surface of the first layer is reacting with air, since it's exposed to air when it cures, and different brands of resin might react differently to air. Don't quote me on that though, it's mostly a guess, lol.
Ahh maybe I just undermixed these bad boys. Leave it to the master to show me how to fix my mistakes! I'll have to try your resin instead as well :)
You are now DIRECTLY quoted, and if I sink or swim it's on you.
(Jk
@@Rybonator Haha, I didn't fix anything yet ;) The layer separation probably happens for a number of reasons, and I don't know what they are, mixing just seems to be one I've noticed.
Possibly a little under mixed for that line? I've had that issue before. Was that the last dice you finished up? Seems that I'll end up with a little part A stuck to the sides of the bottom of my mixing cup.
It was first, so that's probably the reason, you're right!
I dig the idea behind this, but the seagull thing might have worked better with a needle instead of a toothpick, could be an idea for another time.
If anything you could reuse this design for more of an arctic look, bet that would be a cool change of ambiance.
Oh yeah making an arctic shelf die would be awesome!
I'm new to sanding.. It would really be helpful for me to learn how you go about sanding your dice! - I live in an apartment so this means I can't make too much noise with machinery with respect to my neighbors.
Was wonderful to see you create these! Even if the birds weren't perfect they added a little unique charm to your one of a kind set! 😀 - But yeah, would love to be introduced into the world of polishing dice and how to do it faster than just pure manual labour! 😂
This video shows my current process :) th-cam.com/video/rFuzq2_nF9A/w-d-xo.html
But you can totally hand sand, I just use the pottery wheel to speed things up!
This are super pretty!
Thanks Elen :)
I still do those m birds. Lol and when I saw them I immediately thought of birds. Lol love your vids keep doing a great job!
Mission accomplished then! :) Thanks Emily!
bits of aquarium rock to look like coral and add additional colour would be cool but almost definitely weigh the dice
Those dice are amazing
No u :)
Also thank you haha
There splashy and eye catching
I just made a surfer themed Warforged (nicknamed a "Brahforged") so this was great timing :P
Oh man, perfect timing! :)
@@Rybonator I can't decide on a name though :P What do you think? Guppy, Fynn or Sharkoprion ("Brah call me Sharko")?
I think some little fish in the water would be cute. You could even make little simple sort of teardrop shapes for them if you wanted something easy/simplified like the M seagulls.
I do wonder if you could do some sort of Petri dish technique to make coral-like formations in there though
I love the seagulls and think maybe it’d be less cartoony if they were a white/beige/grey seagull color or something instead of the black. They look fantastic though!!
That's probably a smart idea, a kind of light great might have been better :)
Love your content, man. Keep it up.
Thanks Mollie :) Will do!
I've found a bunch of cool mini figures on Etsy. I've already received some dolphins, Manta- rays, and Hummingbirds (not sea life, but just cool). Once I receive the package with the turtles and the sharks I'm going to send you a package with some tiny real sea shells that I collected on vacations (remember those) in hopes of getting to see a video on a sea life diorama die.
Oh man! I'd love to be able to make a beach set sometime! :) You rock Kitsune!
@@Rybonator The last of the stuff came in today, unfortunately all the shipping places close at 6 so I'll have to send the package out tomorrow.
I like the little seagulls!
Whew! As long as someone does, I'll call it a win!
I think another great improvement would be using some kind of a modeling water effect that modelers use on dioramas to make the waves and the wave foam realistic. I'm not sure how it would look when used on such a small surface but I think if it would work it would look really cool,
The other main reason I didn't do that, is it would really throw the weight of the die off and make in unbalanced if it had large waves. BUT, you are totally right, it would LOOK waaaay better :)
can’t wait to try this! would love to see a fog effect tutorial....
I'll see what I can come up with :)
Love the birds idea, but they also resemble a 3... and that could be utilized, or be confusing lol
Oh something in the water could be very fun!!!! Perhaps something for a warlock~
Oh getting a shark fin would be great!
You could make a shipwreck set, where you have a full wreck in the D20 and debris, like small barrels and stuff, in the other dice
GROOOOOOVEY!
Edit: THAT TRANSITION THOUGH
I aim to keep it groovin' :)
I just made some today for a trade!!! They came out great. I used microwaved Ivory soap for clouds :)
I’d love to see a video on how u make clouds from microwaved ivory soap I have used air dry clay make clouds and let them dry for 24hrs and I recently Ben using white kneaded eraser I wanna try different colors of kneaded erasers they come in all sorts of colors as for using soap I have never done it do u have to wait for the soap to dry out for a day fret the microwave how long do u put the soap in the microwave do u Mae the clouds before putting the soap in the microwave or after do u wait till it cools or do it while it’s hot I seen a few videos but none are step by step and don’t give good directions I sure don’t wanna burn down my house lol (JK)
May I recommend using the method that you used to make the seagulls to make floating magic runes?
That sounds like a great idea!
Yay shiney ocean click clacks how pretty
Clicking and Clacking all the way to Davey Jones' locker!
Do you have any info on how Tea Toucan did theirs? I know you said its super complicated, but I'm always looking for new dice making techniques.
Nowadays I use a custom mold for the waves, but prior to making a mold, I would use a partial cure technique. I would pour a layer of resin for the waves, and let it sit for a few hours. After the resin starts to cure and becomes really thick, there's a point where it can be shaped and will hold its shape. I would shape the waves with toothpicks and silicone-tipped tools. Definitely a bit of a pain because you have to keep poking at the resin every couple hours to see if it's gotten to the sweet spot, which is why I use a mold now, lol
Tea Toucan coming in hot with the REAL answers :)
I think clouds would be cool, maybe not necessarly white ones because that might look messy with the waves but maybe pink/orange sunset clouds? Not sure if cotton wouldnt just clump in a weird way
I think the birds were a cool idea, but maybe if you ever do this again use something thinner to draw them, like a toothpick. Maybe use a similar technique to how you made the waves to add some clouds for the birds to fly among (or maybe make it multi-tiered things with the clouds and birds on different levels?)
I used a toothpick, but some people are suggesting a needle which might work better!
I like the multi-tier idea though!
I think it would have been amazing to used miniatures, and put a fish or 2 in the water, still have the waves, and then add realistic birds. So much more work maybe, but I bet it'd look cool. Keep up the great work!
That's a pretty good idea. Maybe I'll try that out sometime :) Thanks Danielle!
You use a pottery wheel for sanding?!? Does that make a noticeable difference in the final look??? (Thanks for leaving the sanding in this time!!) I’m a sucker for nautical and ocean anything and this set is some of my personal favorites of the ones you’ve made so far 😁✨✨ can’t wait to see more!!!
If I ever get to make dice like this I think I’d would be neat to put different sea life in the waves of each! Like how you put seagulls above, maybe there’s a pod of dolphins of a school of fish or a sting ray or something. But maybe that would get too busy? Only one way to find out! 🤩🤩🤩
It doesn't make it better or worse, but it makes the process WAY faster :)
Also I'm glad you liked them! :)
@@Rybonator ohhhh I understand!! That’s really smart!
Hi there! I was really wondering where you got your pressure pot from? I'm having a hard time finding one!
Great punz, dice, and sponsor transition. Could you make thunder cloud dice with this technique? You could layed small tufts of grey cotton on one side and then draw little blue and purple lightning bolts in between the layers. Idk, just a random idea. Thanks for the awesome content.
Oh absolutely! I basically did that with the spider dice in my Halloween vid :)
Also thank you!
@@Rybonator oh right, those were fun. I forgot you did those.
You know what would be cool? A diorama dice, recreating the scene were Dr. Frankenstein brings his monster to life.
i might have suggested a needle and a different color for the seagulls, but I like the idea
Oh dang, yeah a needle would have been good!
Thank you for the video!
Of course! I'm glad you liked it :)
Noot noot
I can sea myself making my own set of these.
Noot! Do it :) Send pics
I bet you could mix a little yellow and orange resin and do like a mini drop in a corner so that it looks like a sunset in the distance. Or perhaps 3D printing some lightning bolts coming from thunderclouds! Hurricane dice? I wish I could act on my own ideas lol
What if there was a set of dice that when put together form a diorama scene? Like imagine a ship in ocean D20, a harpoon D4, a Kraken D10, seagull D2.... etc
Oh that's a super interesting idea! I wanna make a literal sun in the sky dice now!
@@Rybonator if anyone can do it you can!
I wonder if there's some way you could make the birds vertical rather than horizontal?
Ooh, maybe teeny-tiny little cut-out paper Ms to stand up in the resin? hmmm.....
I think nail polish should work. You can paint the seagulls on a smooth plastic surface like foil or a joghurt cup, coat it with clear nail polish then peel the sticker of. Then fix the sticker vertically in the dice
I totally should have tried something like that! It would have made them even ebtter :)
Me, a complete dice goblin of a marine biologist: WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN
Perhaps tiny white origami birds would be give that carefree summer feel
Awesome video, as always. Two questions -- one, do you get a kickback from skillshare if I use your link, because if you do, I will absolutely make sure to do that. Two, I still have not seen anything about your cap/sprue combo mold. Did it do a good job with the whole best of both worlds thing? Looking forward to future stuff.
They are just more likely to keep doing deals with me if people use my link :)
And I did use it, until I busted it in the move (spilled dye all over it). It's not bad, but honestly a good cap mold is just better all over with no real downsides :)
@@Rybonator do you really not get bubbles/cavities when using cap molds in a pressure pot? I know that was your original (valid) worry about them... (also, sorry to resurrect old yt comments but I only recently discovered your channel and am binging...)
Love your vids :D and puns XD
I make the vids as an excuse to make puns :p
Also thank you haha
