Helpful tip for larger silicone molds like this. AS you're doing other mold projects save all your silicone scraps. Cut them up into smaller chunks and you can use them as filler for cases exactly like this where you don't want to waste silicone filling large voids.
Yep. I've been using this trick for a bit now. Luckily I came across this tip early on in my resin/silicone research. I even save the little shreds from the silicone mixing cups.
Oh dangit, I shoulda saved all my junked silicone molds that I'd made and then gave up on rather than throwing them away. I'm not going to stress too much about that right now (trying to get rid of some of my "junk" so that I have less stuff to pack when I finally move), but I'll definitely remember this.
first of all: love these boxes, especially the purple one, because i loooveeed those purple dice i got an idea recently and it got stuck in my head, but it´s probably really ambitious and complicated: enviroment dice. like there is a lil cute enviroment in the dice, maybe a tree or a little beach or lake so i don´t know if dice are too little for that, but i at least wanted to write this idea down because i don´t have the time, the patience nor the equipment to do something like that :D
I've seen some people do things like that in extra large d20s. Off the top of my head I've seen one with a ship on the ocean (which I am not-so-patiently waiting for the maker to start selling) and another that showed kraken tentacles rising from water (which was sadly a one-off that auctioned for waaaay more than I can spend on dice). I've also got a set of dice with actual seashells on a "beach" which I like a lot.
You can possibly do resin layer painting--make a couple small disks of resin, paint them to the effect you want for that layer with whatever you're comfortable using, then glue them together inside your mold with more resin--but its only going to be visible from certain angles, even if you paint both top and bottom of each layer. You can plug "resin layer painting" into youtube to find a few examples, but not any dice. Another possibility is making premade, extra tiny charms for special objects like trees, etc., painting those, and casting your dice in layers--like top is clear sky and clouds, upper middle layer for alcohol ink to make water and inserting fish charms, lower middle layer for rocks and seaweed and a darker alcohol ink, bottom is mica powder to look like sand. You'd just have to be careful what you make the charms out of and how much glitter, sand, or whatever you're adding to avoid weighting the dice too badly.
That purple glitter and gunmetal box is the coolest box I've ever seen. I didn't know it was possible to me envious of a box. It looks like an alien artifact exploding into pure magic.
Frankly, I'm just glad this was a such a crate idea. You really kept the ideas contained, kept inside the box, but with some neat ideas that just barrelled through the normal limitations.
I love these. I‘d have a challenge for you: World Creation dice! A bunch of dice you throw over a blank sheet of paper and depending on what lands where you determine wether there‘s forest, cities, villages etc. What do you think?
Oh man I love the little purple box!!!! And the uneven lid is my favorite part 😂😂 I mean it's a high quality homemade piece, that little quirk is just part of its charm! Besides I'm bias purple is my favorite color and I make handmade notebooks, I love a good quirk 💜💜

Rybonator ok. Have you put any thought into doing a video on layered resin dice? Or putting images inside them? I just thought those would be interesting.
@@Rybonator Ever thought about taking commissions on dice if you'd rather not mass-make to sell? I love the way you do your dice as whole, so it'd be great fun to commission a custom set! As someone who bought a chain maile dice bag because it had one scale that was a slightly different color I LOVE that purple/black round box. It's not perfect but it doesn't have to be! It is wholly unique.
I may actually do this 👀 I'm waiting on my dice molds to arrive, my resin and other things got here a week or so ago. When I make my test stuff, I'll try to share on Discord 👀
I love this soooo much!! I may have shed a few tears at the sight of the purple and gunmetal box. I love it more than I can put into words. I would buy a dice and box set of those SO FAST! I love your content like always. Thank you!
If you can find premade wooden dice with numbers you like, I think it should be a relatively easy project. Or finding blanks, and my go to would be to burn in the numbers rather then carving them. Or drilling dots. Getting an even layer of tape without loads of creases might be a little fiddly. I think putting a dice face at a time on to the sticky side and then going around with a exacto might be easiest.

Wow, those boxes are to die for 😍 Love the colorpatterns. Can see myself in the future creating a miljon boxes because I just want to test and play with colors and the waterfall/ petri dish method 😅
Love all your videos. I just ordered everything I need to make some of my own. I do the Petrie dish method with ashtrays. FYI what you did is a bloom method. For Petrie dish you fill the mold then ad drops of the alcohol inks then a sinking white like blanco blanco (my go to sinking white) over top of the first color/colors. You can add more drops of the colors then more white, then leave it. The sinking white will do all the work for you. Would love to see you do this in one of your videos. I hope my dice turn out even just 1/10 as gorgeous as yours.
For larger things that you need to pressure/vac pot you can build a half moon stand and put the pot on its side. Then build a slide in platform so that it gives the side of the pot, now the bottom of the pot a flat base for your molds. Works beautiful, hope this helps. 🙂
I love the purple box. If anything, you could add things to the top to make it appear level. Like a couple gems or crystals, short on the thick side, long on the thin side. Or teensy miniatures to make it look like a crystal planet terrain. Like something 80's-ish. LOL
You should make a series where you make a dice set for each member of the mighty nein (plus some important npcs for Matt) and then give them to the cast. I’m sure they would love the personal touch
