    Walt’s right George. Off with the jewelry....pretty-please. My husband was a Master mechanic for forty years and when he was in his thirties he had an electrical mishap involving his wedding band. He didn’t lose his finger. It was a lesson learned. Take care friend. Another great video!

      My husband wears a silicone wedding band for just that reason.

    • @losustubbs1936

      A silicone ring!? This is a great opportunity for another Video! I would love to hear about the silicone ring. Do you wear one as well? maybe he could let his viewers know that if they’re doing a lot of electrical work, they may want to consider one. It’s always nice to be informed that there are such safety things out there like that. Thank you so much for getting back with me. I can’t tell you how happy I am that “you” answered me. I think your home is lovely. Is there something you could teach us, or talk to us about? Well...at least think about it. I’ll be your first fan!

      LoSu Stubbs he started wearing it when he was in the 101CAV because if it gets caught on anything it will tear away and not take your finger. He bought a pack on Amazon and, even though he’s not a tanker anymore, he still wears them. Yes, he bought me some too. 😊

    In the early ‘80’s, my friend and I bought a retired, propane powered, telephone van. Of course, only a drivers seat was in it. We bought 2 new captains chairs, and two swivel bases. Easy peasy to install because there wasn’t all the wiring and such. Things were way less complicated back then....
    Very informative video, as always.

    Hi George, Great video, just a couple of comments. You were only joking about the German instructions? We do include English instructions with all of our Sprinter Sportscraft swivels. I know you received them since you commented on the advise to loosen the bolts that hold the base to the floor. The holes are drilled correctly in the swivel, but the seat base can get out of square at the factory. Loosening these bolts will make installation much easier.

    👍👌. Excellent vid. Speaking of the nut bucket...my momma said she was raising nut cases. I figured she was referring to my brothers. It couldnt possibly been me!
    Yeh. Take off all jewelery. ALL!!! My wife had a problem with my removing the wedding band at first. Then she saw a film about a guy losing some fingers due to the wedding band. From that day forward she didnt have a problem seeing me without my band (during working hours). The electrical trade is no place for jewelery. Carry on bro! 😀

    Hi George, your straightforward approach to visually and verbally explaining each step of your build puts all others to shame. How many times have you gone around in circles because of half baked instructions.
    Never stop your thorough way of explaining in detail.
    One thing I learned the hard way.... don't wear any jewelry that is metallic while doing electrical work... I know you took measures to cover the battery underneath the hood but they call them accidents for a reason. You got to stay safe for the build and your viewers .
    Thanks for the great entertainment and teachings.

      Thank you for your support, Walt. I am truly humbled. And yes! You are correct about the jewelry! One time, I was riding my road bike in a high speed pace line and reached down for my water bottle. The very same bracelet got hooked onto the bottle cage and that's when the trouble started….

      You are a road cyclist too?? Is there anything you don't do or haven't done?? I mean this in an admiring kind of way. I am a cyclist and want get a van to travel the country to all the best cycling locations. In 2005 I rented a Hymer out of Frankfurt and followed the Tour de France! That hooked me on the RV life. I plan on getting back to Europe for more of the same when I retire. Love your videos!! Thanks, BK

      I haven't been riding lately. Too busy with the van! But that is no excuse. Some years ago, my son was racing with the Colavita U19 team here in NJ. A few of the fathers tagged onto the back of their training rides. I was in the best shape of my life since crewing in college. Every time I edit a video, I think to myself, "good Lord! do something about that belly…"

    Those swivels look kinda heavy, but I guess you need them to be for safety reasons. That's a crazy amount of electronics under that drivers seat. Make sure you don't spill a soda! :) Even though I will likely never remove a seat in my life, I found this video to be really very helpful. Great tips on using the glove on the positive cable and using a rubber mat for protection.

    Instructions in German? George I’m not sure if you’re joking or not ☺️but if they are truly only in German, or for that matter anytime you run into a language problem of the written word. There is a great app called google translate and you use your phones camera, place it over the text and you can translate it into English. It’s great. I’ve used it to translate menus, descriptions etc. I love it. It’s invaluable when traveling.

    I’m not too happy with the newly installed Sportscraft swivel in my 2014 Sprinter (passenger side). It raised the seat 1 3/4”, it’s difficult to get into the right position to unlock and rotate, and my feet barely touch the ground while facing forward and dangle while facing backward (I’m 5’8”). It’s not the sweet improvement I was hoping for and am wondering the additional cost of the Scopema is worth it.

  • @SergeyPRKL
    @SergeyPRKL 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here in europe we just use regular hexagonal 8mm, 10mm etc. sockets for those E8 and E10 etc torx bolts. That way you need only one socket set ;D M-B bolts are so hard you won't ruin the bolt even it isnot exact match.

  • @johnmcneal9477
    @johnmcneal9477 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We installed the swivel base on the passenger side first and my wife hates it. It raised the seat just enough so that her feet dangle above the floor when she is seated. The "foot dangle height" (that is a new term I made up) is even worse for her when the seat is swiveled to the rear. She looks like a little kid in a high chair. She is 5'4" and it can be a bit of a challenge for her to climb up into the seat. The first time we went for a drive to check it out, her legs fell asleep after about 15 minutes. Right now she has a little foot stool that she has to move into place on the floor so she is comfortable. I will either go back to the stock base or end up building or installing a foot rest or raised floor on her side.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use the van leveling waffle blocks, I now store them under the front passenger floor rug. You can build up the floor to whatever height you need as well as being a great place to store the waffles.

  • @michaelmitchell9832

    If you disconnect the wire under the seat, make sure the van does not get power while the clip is unplugged. I placed the amplifier to my speakers under the passenger pedestal and wanted to test before putting everything back together. If the van gets power without the plug connected it will trip the SRS (safety restraint system) alarm. This does not resolve even if you reconnect the plug so you'll have to take it to the dealer for a pricey reset.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know! And there is a specific order in which battery to disconnect and re-connect. I will make that clear in part two.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I STRONGLY suggest getting the swivels factory option installed. And with the newer airbag and safety electronics being built into the seats, you will see builders not offering any kind of fancy schmancy seat coverings either. The Federal Highway Safety Commission is not someone you want to tangle with...
